Mikuni won't address the issue either. They are blaming the gasket failure on ethanol based fuel. We drill ours for Alky and are continually having issues. I just make it a point to change ours once every couple of months. Great job on the video and explanation.

Thank you for this video. I have been tinkering with the jetting on my 2017 KTM 150 xcw for a while, even with the JD jetting kit, as well as a bunch of other mods (RK Tek head insert, FMF Fatty, Turbinecore 2.1, vforce 4 reeds) I couldnt really get it to run as clean as it should. I suspected that my carb had this issue, as it seems to have plagued so many 17's, but I didnt know for sure. Took apart the carb, sure enough, gasket was one of the worst Ive seen in terms of being deformed. Also my o ring was super dry rotted. Put the new gasket and o ring in and HOLY CRAP... I thought it would make a difference, but not this much. Its literally like a different bike :) pulls super hard and crisp from idle all the way to the top and revs out clean! No more gurgle sputter of any kind. Honestly if you didnt make this video, I dont think I would have pursued this fix. Hearing your bike in the video is what made me do it, my bike sounded exactly like yours. I always kinda thought my bike sounded a bit different down low than most other bikes....now I know why :) Thanks again for the video.
Hey Greg, I'm glad this video helped. I'll fill you in on an even better mod that I just did over the weekend that blew my mind away. Haven't had the opportunity to do a video of it but since you're into it I thought I'd post what I did here. First of all, the above mod does make a big difference on how the bike runs. There's room for more improvement so I experimented with doing the Grahm Jarvis mod. His bikes are 300cc so I thought it may not carry over to a 150cc. I was wrong.
@@supergarball yes I have seen that mod before in a couple videos. I have also heard that people like that better than the JD jetting kit. What jets are you running in yours? Were you running the JD jetting kit prior to switching over to the Jarvis mod?
Greg Stritzel No JD jetting kit, 450 main instead of the 440, 27.5 pilot instead of of the 25, 80 idle as specified and 1.25 turns on the idle air. Only reason I went with these is my local shop didn’t have the right jets in stock so I got the closest ones. The setup is amazing. Only 1.5 h on it but will get a more in to see if it sticks.
My brand new 0 hours, 2019 Yamaha YZ125 with Mikuni TMX 38 has this problem as well. This problem is not exclusive to just KTM and Husky . Also the needle seat was wobbly in the carb body and leaking fuel, overflowing because of a shrunken seat Oring. 0 zero hours on this bike, crazy. These must be new old stock carbs. supergarball wow mines wobbly too 2018 300 xc I changed the clip position I noticed it wobbles way to much got a new circlip still does it its the block seal gasket I hope.This carbs been a pain in the a

Dang man I guess Yamaha went to keihin some time soon after because my 23 yz250x has a keihin. I will say, 60 hours in and 1 xc race, I’ve had zero issues
VForce4 reed too. The original Reed is crap. I did the JDJetting needle kit and Block Seal kit. My TMX 38 is perfect. You didnt see any O-Rings underneath the two Torque 10 screws when you took the Seal Block out? I didn't either. Saw a thread on U.T. that he put them in where the two screws go back in.... Mmm?

Jay Cee I’ve been riding with the Graham Jarvis mod for almost 2 months now. Have to say it’s near perfect. Definitely forgot I even have a carb. So nice not to have to deal with issues anymore. Haven’t tweeted or touched anything either so it’s pretty consistent.
When you did the install did your new gasket from JD sit flush? Mine wouldnt sit flush around the area where the two little holes are almost like the cutout on the JD gasket wasnt large enough. It sort of sat on top of the protruding area around those two little holes. I installed it with the ideology that it will be pressed into place when I tighten those screws but theres no way to check now that its installed and my bike is still running rich down low. I know the running rich doesnt mean its definitely the jet block gasket but I wanted to see what experience others had. The one I removed was only mildly deformed. Still on stock jetting on a yz125x and I live in new york
carb. She ran last year, But it would spit oil out of the silencer pretty bad. Now this year, I’m fouling plugs and can’t keep it going for more than a few min with a new spark plug in it. Do you think this is my issue ??
No way to know for sure.0. It sounds like you’re running very rich. If you have one of the KTM/Husky Mikuni carbs then you should just do the mod regardless. Buddy I ride with regularly tried it on his KTM 250 and said it’s like a new bike.
250race +1. I basically blow into the tube when I have it apart while rotating the carb to check that. Don’t know how much pressure but I think it’s quite a few psi.
@@supergarball I use a radiator pressure gauge You can get from Harbor Freight. It should hold about 2 lb if it doesn't then your float needle or your o-ring in your needle seat is bad
I have an older TMX on 05 KX125 do you know if its the same? My bike is also running like crap. Wonder if carb cleaner deforms that gasket?Very good video.Thanks
Best advice is to remove the mikuni, throw it in the trash. Get an air striker carburetor from J&D jetting! Did this with my 02 CR 125. Night & day difference. Less than $200 for the carburetor that is prejetted for your location. Comes with red & blue needles & extra jets.
22raddad Can’t say I’d do that. Since I’ve done the Grahm Jarvis mod to the carb 9 months ago it’s been running flawlessly. Excellent power delivery across the band. Never think about it anymore.
Pwk isn't really superior to the tmx once you fix the issues with the tmx. Sure the tmx sucks off the showroom floor, but the fixes are dirt cheap and easy.
Can you just use some kind of sealant in stead of this replacement gasket because i can't find these aftermarket gaskets anywhere in my country? Could the sealant work like the normal gasket?

You should always put 2 to 3 psi to see if your float hold air.

This problem seems to be ethanol induced. You would think Mikuni would address this. At least it's easily fixed.

tndeere Don’t know, that’s a much older carb. I wouldn’t give up on it though. All these carbs can run well as long as you do things by the book.

The air screw sits above the idle screw. That needs to be adjusted first, then the idle.

Definitely! Follow the online instructions for the “Grahm Jarvis Mikuni mod” and you won’t be disappointed. Don’t skip anything.

Does this also affect the Mikuni TMX 36mm on the 2000 YZ 125?

hihihaha hihihaha Bad idea. Sealant would get into areas of the carb you don’t want and make things worse.
