Today we'll be discussing the comics and how those stories should be adapted into stories for the games. Specifically I'll be speaking on the IDW Sonic comics with the Scrapnik and Metal Virus story arcs and their potential translated into game form. It seems theres a lot of missed opportunity in this realm and I'd like to explore whats possible. For me Sonic stories are at there best when they give most of the focus to the other characters. Sonic's name may be on the box, but Sonic is more like that final secret ingredient that compliments the main dish and completes it. He serves as that stable footing for the series to lean on, but any significant storytelling is always going to come from the other characters. I think humans also have great potential for storytelling in the games, though maybe to a much lesser extent. Anyway, great video as always.
And also there are so many characters that sega has forgotten that they barely even show up in the mainline games anymore like Marine the raccoon cream the rabbit vanilla the rabbit emerl and gemrel and also mighty and Ray and one more character Sega forgotten like Tikal the echidna like Sega only use these characters once in their games but never dare to bring them back again can I do wish to see more from them and I do agree that blaze and silver deserve their own game because we need to explore more on the sol dimension and the future that silver came from and we want to see the sol versions and future versions of these characters but that's just wishful thinking but hey at least someone can dream
I feel like after seeing how poor the reception was surrounding Sonic Forces and the Sonic Boom brand a few years ago, SEGA and Sonic Team are on a cleanup phase to try and fix the Sonic continuity and make it flow better together. Along with reintroducing older elements of the series and further build on them. Such as bringing back the significance of the Chaos Emeralds and Chaos, and further building on their origins with the Ancients. Or with how we’re going back to Shadow’s backstory with Shadow Generations and getting a better idea of how the events of Project Shadow took place. Such as seeing Emerl go on a rampage like as described in Gerald’s diary in Sonic Battle. It feels like SEGA and Sonic Team are trying to do a better job at keeping up with the Sonic continuity. Even if right now, it’s still a jumbled up mess and how popular the series has become again thanks to the Sonic Movies.
I do think SEGA and Sonic Team want to reach a point to where they can merge the video games and the comics together. I feel like part of the reason they cancelled the Archie Sonic Comics and started fresh with the IDW Comics is so the comics can be more in line with the game canon. (Plus all the legal shenanigans the Archie Comics were surrounded by.) But right now, they’re still trying to get things sorted out with the games. I do hope that we eventually reach a point to where we can start seeing the comic characters in the games. I’d really like to see Tangle, Whisper, Belle, Surge, and Kit in future games. And heck, Scrapnik Mecha Sonic is technically already a video game character since he’s based off his appearance in S3&K just older and more run down. Maybe with more time, we’ll see the comics and games be more interconnected.
I agree with everything here👍 I’m looking forward to see what they do with it because so far they haven’t felt connected at all but we are still in the early stages so I’m sure we’ll start to see it soon. Bringing back Sonic Battle lore was the first step i think, and thats a super deep cut and really exciting to see.

I just had this odd question to ask you is that why hasn't egg man make any metal variants of Sonic's friends like if Sonic has a metal variant of its rival then why don't you do that for his friends as well like metal tails would have a cold and calculating personality set instead of having a kind heart that tails always has or metal knuckles who is not as gullible as are knuckles a metal variant of Amy that lack any genuine love that Amy has like just please do it for all of them Sonic friends and then give them different abilities that will stand out from our usual Sonic friends that we always play
By metal variant I assume you mean like metal sonic. I do agree that we should see a metal tails, but we only ever got tails doll, which is fine by me. Metal Knuckles has been sort of untouched since Sonic R, at least in the games. Shadow android is pretty much the metal shadow. Metal Amy doesn’t exist, metal silver doesn’t exist but we do have a metal blaze. I actually showcase a lot of the metal characters in Sonic Cybernetics, my animated series. I do think they should make more appearances since their designs are very iconic and there’s a lot more you could do with them. Also we did see a metal tails in sonic superstars, which I believe was the first official metal tails outside of the Archie comics.
I heard from one of the writers of IDW that all of the events that happened in IDW comic are before frontiers so maybe there's still a chance in the next big game after shadow generation
That would mean theres a huge time jump between Sonic Forces and Frontiers which I suppose could work. They probably needed time to clean up the world after the mess Eggman left it in from his takeover.
I really wish Sega had more faith in their other characters carrying games/storylines.
Mario can have Luigi, Peach & Yoshi carry their own series. Meanwhile, we'll be lucky if anyone who isn't Sonic is playable in a new game
If I were to guess what the next game will be story wise with Ian flynn at the helm I'd say it'd be a reenactment of the metal virus saga but with the cyber corruption of Frontiers.
In the DLC of Frontiers Eggman already said he was going to try and steal the master emerald and take over the world. We also know that the "zap" sign is a symbol representing the "god" of the ancientswho they say is still out there.
Ian Flynn might take the criticism from the metal virus saga and put a Frontiers spin on it. The world is being taken over by cybercorruption and Sonic & co. have to save everyone.
They could even flip the story on its head where Sonic's Supercyberform takes over him and he acts as a possessed villain who this time around his friends have to save him instead of like Frontiers where it was the other way round.
The "god" of the ancients could reincarnate through possessing Sonic's body through cybercorruption.
These are just my thoughts, I could easily be completely wrong and they go in an entirely different direction but from what I'm seeing Sonic Team want a more continuous and long term story telling than one off stories like the dark age and meta era. We also have seen the multimedia aspects play a larger role in the games get and it'll surely increase in its role.
I believe it's still too early to tell where exactly this new era of Sonic is headed. After all, it wasn't that long ago since Frontiers released and they started hiring for lore managers directly after. I believe they're just going about this really slow and they're only focusing on the game characters for right now I'm semi confident we will start seeing comic elements bleed into the games at one point.
Same thing for me because what is the point of even making IDW comics if the games are never going to connect with them anyway so many missed opportunities and so much potential that comes from this they should have just kept idw sonic as its own thing
The metal virus wouldn't work as an open zone game it should be linear because of the infection but scrapnik island can benefit from it but I've proposed something to connect the ideas for a comic and make it a game make a in house comic and make a game with the story of that comic I had an idea for frontiers 2 to die something like that
