I heard from one of the writers of IDW that all of the events that happened in IDW comic are before frontiers so maybe there's still a chance in the next big game after shadow generation

I really wish Sega had more faith in their other characters carrying games/storylines. Mario can have Luigi, Peach & Yoshi carry their own series. Meanwhile, we'll be lucky if anyone who isn't Sonic is playable in a new game

The metal virus wouldn't work as an open zone game it should be linear because of the infection but scrapnik island can benefit from it but I've proposed something to connect the ideas for a comic and make it a game make a in house comic and make a game with the story of that comic I had an idea for frontiers 2 to die something like that

If I were to guess what the next game will be story wise with Ian flynn at the helm I'd say it'd be a reenactment of the metal virus saga but with the cyber corruption of Frontiers. In the DLC of Frontiers Eggman already said he was going to try and steal the master emerald and take over the world. We also know that the "zap" sign is a symbol representing the "god" of the ancientswho they say is still out there. Ian Flynn might take the criticism from the metal virus saga and put a Frontiers spin on it. The world is being taken over by cybercorruption and Sonic & co. have to save everyone. They could even flip the story on its head where Sonic's Supercyberform takes over him and he acts as a possessed villain who this time around his friends have to save him instead of like Frontiers where it was the other way round. The "god" of the ancients could reincarnate through possessing Sonic's body through cybercorruption. These are just my thoughts, I could easily be completely wrong and they go in an entirely different direction but from what I'm seeing Sonic Team want a more continuous and long term story telling than one off stories like the dark age and meta era. We also have seen the multimedia aspects play a larger role in the games get and it'll surely increase in its role.

Same thing for me because what is the point of even making IDW comics if the games are never going to connect with them anyway so many missed opportunities and so much potential that comes from this they should have just kept idw sonic as its own thing

For me Sonic stories are at there best when they give most of the focus to the other characters. Sonic's name may be on the box, but Sonic is more like that final secret ingredient that compliments the main dish and completes it. He serves as that stable footing for the series to lean on, but any significant storytelling is always going to come from the other characters. I think humans also have great potential for storytelling in the games, though maybe to a much lesser extent. Anyway, great video as always.

I believe it's still too early to tell where exactly this new era of Sonic is headed. After all, it wasn't that long ago since Frontiers released and they started hiring for lore managers directly after. I believe they're just going about this really slow and they're only focusing on the game characters for right now I'm semi confident we will start seeing comic elements bleed into the games at one point.

I feel like after seeing how poor the reception was surrounding Sonic Forces and the Sonic Boom brand a few years ago, SEGA and Sonic Team are on a cleanup phase to try and fix the Sonic continuity and make it flow better together. Along with reintroducing older elements of the series and further build on them. Such as bringing back the significance of the Chaos Emeralds and Chaos, and further building on their origins with the Ancients. Or with how we’re going back to Shadow’s backstory with Shadow Generations and getting a better idea of how the events of Project Shadow took place. Such as seeing Emerl go on a rampage like as described in Gerald’s diary in Sonic Battle. It feels like SEGA and Sonic Team are trying to do a better job at keeping up with the Sonic continuity. Even if right now, it’s still a jumbled up mess and how popular the series has become again thanks to the Sonic Movies. I do think SEGA and Sonic Team want to reach a point to where they can merge the video games and the comics together. I feel like part of the reason they cancelled the Archie Sonic Comics and started fresh with the IDW Comics is so the comics can be more in line with the game canon. (Plus all the legal shenanigans the Archie Comics were surrounded by.) But right now, they’re still trying to get things sorted out with the games. I do hope that we eventually reach a point to where we can start seeing the comic characters in the games. I’d really like to see Tangle, Whisper, Belle, Surge, and Kit in future games. And heck, Scrapnik Mecha Sonic is technically already a video game character since he’s based off his appearance in S3&K just older and more run down. Maybe with more time, we’ll see the comics and games be more interconnected.

Will Sally and the Freedom Fighters will make an appearance in Sonic cybernetics in the future

Personally I don’t know if sega will ever want to make adventure. There are lots of similarities in gameplay structure to sonic adventure 1 with sonic 06 such as multiple playable characters, open exploitable world with entry points into zones, npcs, overarching story etc. however it would be nice to get a remake of 06 from sega to show what could have been and to show they have truly moved on from being scared of 06. Maybe then we will see an offical adventure 3 (as opposed to sonic 06 which in some ways feels like a spiritual adventure 3)

That last bit is why I don't blame Frontiers for its tone. It was the tone that should have been in Forces, but it does make sense for them to be a little more serious by the time they get to the Starfall Islands.

The characters in the 2000's had developed immensely, and with Colors and onward (excluding Frontiers) it felt like they had been reverted into stereotypes. They lost the nuances, and that was the most frustrating part, I think.

The reason why everyone is so serious in 06 honestly makes sense considering a horrifying alien invasion happened not too long beforehand.

Shadow was pretty dark back then: depressed, suicidal, with actual PTSD symptoms, mild selective mutism when extremely stressed. At the same time he used to be more 3dimensional and way more flexible, even funny and likeable when in good mood. But actually I perceived Sonic as dark even in the '90s. Eggman harming innocent beasts (and you could see that in game, you destroyed the badniks and little animals ran away), wanting to actually kill Sonic. Also Sonic used to have lots of Shadow vibes, at least to me. So SA2 was about what I excepted. At the same time I could have easily seen light hearted moments. The aestetic was joyful. Mera era sucks. Character are either flanderized (Shadow, Knuckles) or washed out (Sonic, Eggman) and enemies lack of charisma. Sonic forces seems trying hard to be dark and failing, the story is so boring I forgot it right after having watched the cutscenes. Sonic lost world, Sonic colours, Sonic Generations are the same, I have to force myself to remember something. The only story I enjoyed from meta era was Sonic Unleashed, I can recall the cutscenes without effort.

Other than the Adventures + Heroes and Shadow, there's other games from the Saturn era which could (and should) definitely have a facelift. Sonic 3D with high res sprites would look like a dream, and would sell very well digitally if priced right. Sonic R with 60fps+, global illumination and maybe new models (and hopefully some restored content from the prototypes/beta) would also sell very well, if priced adequately. SEGA can also take smaller steps and remake or remaster these smaller games, to get a better footing about how to do this, before jumping head first into gigantic projects like remaking SA1 or SA2

I agree with most of this video except the idea that the adventure games aged poorly. If you busted out a Dreamcast and a crt for them, you would be amazed at how beautiful the games look and feel. Only thing a remake needs to do is improve graphics, fix and smooth out wall collisions and maybe lower the sensitivity at high speed

I do hope that characters like G.U.N. Commander, Maria & Gerald Robotnik, The President, Princess Elise, Professor Pickle, Topaz, Chris Thorndyke, Hell, even Merlina, would be nice to see in the games again.

8:50 Gemerl looks like a villain because Eggman created Gemerl after the 'death' of emerl. he wanted his own robot like emerl but to be a villain like him, so thats why Gemerl looks like a villain. Emerl was the hero of the entire Sonic Battle story thats why he looks like a good guy, emerl only does evil things when he loses his mind and obeys a new master due to witnessing a drastically stronger power level. Emerl becomes like who ever his master is, Sonic was his master in Sonic Battle so thats why he was good cuz he obeyed sonic. Emerl Destroyed half the Space Colony ARK due to his master being G.U.N. and they wanted to use him as an ultimate weapon of war. Emerl is neutral and obeys whoever his current master is. but Gemerl was evil cuz he was created by eggman after eggman was defeated by emerl. Gemerl only became good after Tails reprogrammed him and deleted all the eggman influence from his code.

you really need to either watch someone explain the entire story of Sonic Battle and Sonic Advance 3, or play beat both games. cuz theres alot of lore and details you are missing out on about these two characters.

i do not believe Gemerl is Emerl. i believe eggman just scanned and dowloaded a backup of Emerls Data when he first found him, which explains how he made the Grey Phi robots that look like emerl in sonic battle. so Gemerl is just a Phi emerl replica that is actually strong and capable due to further data collection from emerl when he was on the death egg at the end of sonic battle. emerl and gemerl would and should be rivals like sonic and shadow are. i think an explanation as to why Gemerl is no longer evil at the end of Sonic Advance 3, is that tails removed the bad and negative Emerl data and Eggman programming from him. leaving only the good stuff.

Emerl CAN still be alive. if you pay attention to sonic battle's ending, Emerl isnt like decapitated or chopped up into little pieces and then vaporized, Emerl just disappears in a flash of white light. they can Retcon this to mean Emerl with the last of his power teleported himself far away into outer space with Chaos Control. now he's just been floating in space all these years, unconcious. if you guys played Halo Infinite, remember how Master Chief was just floating in space in the begining of the game? that can be the same thing for Emerl. he is just unconscious and turned on a distress signal. but is just too out of range to be picked up on any scanners or sensors. Tails can build a spaceship and go on a mission near earth unrelated to emerl, and happen to pick up on his signal and find him. he will wanna fix him and repair him and power him with a different energy source like Chaos Drives or fake emeralds. and remove the part of his programming that makes him go crazy when sensing a power greater than him. give him the free will back and remove the forming a Link system.

For movies or very linear stories yes I don’t like people coming back to life, but for a game franchise with a very loose general flow of stories, nah bring anyone back. All emerl or shadow being dead just means we never get to play with them again which is lame

I don't know why people want remakes. We've seen Sonic team fumble literally every game they make after Generations. Just because they jingle Shadow shaped keys since 2006 you assume it'll be good. The Generations team didn't come back till now for a reason.

I completely agree with you that the anime art style for the humans is better than the Pixar art style for the humans. I hate, hate, HAAAAATE the Pixar art style. Dude, don't even get me started on the ugly and overused Pixar art style. Fuck that shit.

I feel like Unleashed is the perfect mix of the Dark and Meta eras as a Sonic Game. It just needs more playable characters and anime esque human designs akin to Adventure 1.
