I got my list of classes I have to take and saw public speaking and was just about to give up right there. I have bad social anxiety and I just hope that I get over that so fast because just talking in front of groups I can have a panic attack and it terrifies me. 😬😬
Girl that was me! I almost didn't go to college because I saw that COM was a requirement. In high school my social anxiety was so bad to the point where reading something in class was terrifying cuz my voice would tremble and shit. I took it last semester and I passed with an A, that class helped me so much. I'm now comfortable speaking In front of groups don't get me wrong I still get nervous but I can do it. You just have to do it even if it scares you shitless face your fears girl it's all in your mind. Don't let your fears control your life.

Is it really required? I’m trying to get an associate degree of applied science at this community college and then transferring to another school. The school I’m thinking of transferring to for the dental program says it’s only requires 3 by science classes and because the program is competitive at least an additional 12 credits from the courses listed on the Dental Hygiene Program of Study. So I’m taking that as it’s not required maybe? But it’s good to take. Because the community college I’m going to to get the a.a.s doesn’t have that listed for a class.

Thank you so much for making this video! I always wondered how intense the RDH program was. I too was told by my hygienist that it was super hard. I am currently a Dental Assistant and I'm on the fence between going back to school for Hygiene or straight into Dental School. After watching your video I think I'll go straight to Dental School as I don't feel RDH will be that big of a challenge since I've already been in the field for a while.

Thanks for the vid I am 15 years of age a sophomore and I feel like this is the job for me so I have been watching videos and looking into it at first I was looking into dental assistance but I told my self if I am going to do this my might as well go for the bigger prize
This was really interesting for me to watch, I’m from Canada and currently in my first year of a 3 year program my first semester courses were dental hygiene theory and practice, biology, anatomy, health promotion, professional practice and radiography, this second semester we have head and neck anatomy, embryo and histology, dental hygiene theory and practice, health promotion, radiography and dental materials! We also have a sim lab once a week as well as clinic once a week :)

I've been a dental assistant for some years and had planned to become a hygienist but was discouraged by other hygienists saying that they are in debt and that they don't get benefits because they can only find part time work yada yada yada. I know the doctors that I have worked for do the cleanings themselves to save on having to pay a hygienist. That honestly scared me from pursuing hygiene school but you have me rethinking it. Can you please share pros and cons in your experience. I love your personality and your videos are very encouraging. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
That's kinda the same reason I decided not to pursue dental hygiene. I figured it was all part time and some article I read said it's more a part time job. From this I decided to be a oral surgeon. But It really depends on what you want to do. If you are truly passionate about being a dental hygienist, girl go for it. You'll do great. I decided to do more with my education and basically become the boss lol. But regardless I would push it if you would really want to do that. Just gotta stay focused and push forward.
I'm also not sure how much the debt is but for me it will be around $300,000. Sign up for assistance, scholarships, loans, although I would be careful with loans. Loans are a touchy subject but I know enough to get me by it
I’ve always had great benefits and been paid very well.
as a DA I’ve worked at offices that only the dr clean teeth and take xrays. Or the office not offering any benefits but dental for full time employees. One things I learned about dental in my last five years if YOUR POSITION IS DEFINITELY OUT THERE. You just have to find it.

This is so helpful! I plan on going to school for dental hygiene! I spent a year in cosmetology school and I passed and I am a licensed cosmetologist. I just want to do something more within my career. Beauty is everything to me and a smile is one so I plan on doing just that. So this helps out alot! Thank you. I had to take biostatistics and research. Chem 1 and 2 and Pharmacology but that’s pretty much all the math.
My wife is doing the pre reqs at savannah tech, she only had to take financial algebra like calculating interest type stuff, it's super easy.
That's my situation, I hate math, that would be my only concern. 🤔
SHORT NAIL that will be hard especially for me because I like to grow my nails really long and I have cutting them 😭😭😭😭😭
That's how I felt too when I started taking my labs in my prerequisites but you get used to it! It's worth it in the long run.

$5, I wish! My clinic charges $40 for cleanings. And many students pay for their patients just so they would come. Going into P2 and I’m so nervous, but this helped

I loved Anatomy but it was tough because we studied the entire body. We worked on a cadaver. Also, loved radiology. Some programs you have to find your own patients for clinic.

Hey girl I'm still kind of new to your channel so I'm not sure if you already have talked about this. But how difficult is it to keep a relationship with a significant other or friends and family during the program? Everyone I know says all you have time for is school and to kiss your relationships goodbye😭 I know you have mentioned that you're still with your boyfriend who is in the military. So i was interested in how you guys worked around a tight schedule. I've been with my bf for over a year and next yr I will hopefully be accepted into a DH program and people's advise have been scaring about it being extremely difficult to keep relationships with such a rigorous course.

I’m in spring semester, first semester of clinic. Question- how many patients were you required to complete in each semester? Did you have to complete proficiencies on patients? (i.e. root debridement, pt education, instrumentation) we do and the patients have to meet certain criteria to be evaluated on and fitting that in is my biggest struggle since only 2 people can evaluate per clinic session.
Hey so each semester they added different patient requirements for patients I don’t remember exactly how many and we had to complete proficiencies on every single one of them like you said pretty similar

How long did it take for you to finish your prerequisites? How long did it take for you to finish the dental program? Is there a difference in price or learning if I take the dental program at my community college instead of an actual dental school? Overall how long did it take for you to become a RDH? Can you work while doing the dental program? Is it worth it or should I just get a BS in something else? Sorry for all the questions, there are so many things I am still confused by, and I am a senior in high school and just want to have my nap ready by time I graduate so I know what I am doing and don’t lag. Thank you and I would greatly appreciate it if you could get back to me.
The prerequisites at my community college was human anatomy, human physiology, chem for health and sciences, eng 101, and psy101. I believe it's cheaper at a community college
whitesox2624 no ofc it’s cheaper, at my cc I have 60 credit hours( 2 year) worth of prerequisites and then there are some prerequisites for those prerequisites and I wanna minimize them as much as possible so I can spend less time in school😭😭
I recommend you go to a college that interests you and see if they offer the program. Moving long, They can help you into what to do before applying. Make sure your grades are top notch. As an advisor told me, you wouldnt want someone with average grades working on you, plus it will be harder to pass classes. Make sure those prerequisite classes are the greatest they can be. It will help when applying into the program. Your chances are better if they are A. If you have more questions I can help answer.
At one point I was considering doing dental hygiene. I had just about most of my classes done but the I went on and decided dental hygiene was not for me and a waste because I wanted to do more than that. I am currently working towards becoming a oral surgeon
@@nynyjohnson1 there really is no way to go around it but to do multiple classes at once. Like myself 4 to 5 classes is enough for me where I can concentrate good on each class

Hi im new to your videos and working on getting into a dental hygiene program. I am a girl thats not very good with hair and makeup. I was wondering if you had a video, and if not could make one, on stuff like that. in this video you mention how your hair has to be off your shoulders and I am not a big fan of having my hair up. It would be really cool to see all the different hair styles i could work with and maybe find which one fits for me.
