Swimming with African Cichlids - Epic Tour of Kamp Kenan
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- In this one, I take you on a tour of @KampKenan's personal reptile collection/zoo! From turtles to monitor lizards, and even a cichlid swim pond, this place has it all. Most of these animals are very personable and want to interact with you as well... or maybe they just want food lol!
Either way, I wanted you all to see this through my lens. It was such an amazing experience that got me really excited about animals I don't currently keep, like turtles. That's something we definitely have to integrate into the animal room ASAP! I forgot just how personable and cool they really are.
Until then, enjoy the tour and let me know what animal you liked best!

Being able to spend time and interact with such incredible animals was awesome! It made me realize that I need a turtle/tortoise in my life again. I forgot just how personable and cool they are. If you were me, what turtle would you keep? I have a few in mind, but I'm curious about your thoughts. If all goes according to plan, this should happen soon. Stay tuned!
Musk
They can live in cool palladariumd planted which is right up your street they are pretty Unagressive with great personalities
I legitimately have said this to you before. I’m so glad you have become a turtle enthusiasts again! One of my favorite animals for sure
For sure keep a spotted turtle!!
I like Russian Tortoises, but they are very long living. on other it is species doing well being outside in summer in a enclosure. Still very Adorable.
Mauremys leprosa
That was by far one of the best tours of Camp Kenan's facility that I've seen yet. Well done Tanner & thank you for sharing it with us!
I think tortoise is objectively the best pet reptile. They're relatively low maintenance. They're personable and friendly. They're herbivores, and their poop doesn't stink.
Kenan is living my dream, you're both a couple of really likeable guys.
Yeah my dream habitat is with rock iguana and tortoise
:0 i didnt know tortoise poop didnt smell! Do you know if turtles are the same?
@@capuchinosofia4771 Turtles are the opposite, they smell horrible and their water requires massive filtration.
@@tsalvlaxitov9594 there goes the chance of me getting a turtle then! Lmao
Edit: thanks for the info! And taking the time to answer!
The Tortoises slowly crawling towards y’all in the background gave me “It Follows” vibes hahaha
Great video! Thanks for showing us around!
Oh no.
LMAO!!
Love the way you presented Kenan’s place. The animals are so dialed in, and every time I visit I notice something different
It's a really cool place!
Being a fan of Kenan, it was really cool to watch this video and see the Kamp from your perspective. His place is absolutely beautiful! For anyone who is not a viewer of Kenans channel, he has moved Pinky out of the large enclosure and Slinky has the whole thing to himself now. They didn’t attack each other, Kenan just felt that she was a bit stressed out because Slinky was non-stop trying to romance her. 🤣😂 She is back in their original enclosure and relaxing. I’m glad I found your channel and I’m happy to subscribe to another reptile lover!🐍❤️🐍
It's so beautiful. Someday I would achieve that kind of atmosphere and environment for my birds.
Emixotic i remeber were setting outside caages for her birds, its been awhile simce ive checked up on her chanel but it might help with ideas =>
I've watched every Kamp Kenan vid there is. Watching "the tour" though someone else's eyes was fun.
I think this was just before the raccoons invaded too 😭
In my humble opinion you guys saved the best til' last, that pond is amazing! And I can't believe Kenan is 47, I'm 31 and I pegged him as a 35-38 year old. Maybe that pond is also contains a fountain of youth? :D Greetings from Sweden!
You can tell just how well taken care of all of his animals are. They trust him!
There’s lots that end up at the humane societies after people don’t want to care for them anymore or didn’t realize how long they live. Might be a good place to find one!
That's a really great idea, rescuing can be great for all animals, but for tortoises it can also be good cause many get dumped or rehomed after people realise they are too much work / too expensive or realise how long a tortoise or a lot of animals can live, As some even common reptiles like leopard geckos (around 30 years), ball pythons (oldest around 60 year I believe), bearded dragons (around 30 years) can live a long time, and people don't realise how long of a commitment that can, that's why I hope to rescue most pets I get especially the more common; misunderstood or just some of common neglected ones 🤷♀️
@@Reptile_Gecko awww that’s so sweet, beardies don’t live that long, sadly though. The oldest (that we know of) was born in 97’ and died at 18 years old. You both have such good hearts. I’m in the middle of building an arid bio active similar to the one Tanner posted here a couple months ago. 5’3’3’ for a bearded dragon. ((: Bio active will work well since I live in AZ and they need more humidity than 10%> I have a binder full of all the information on the lizards and snakes and tortoises I plan on keeping, rescuing is such a good idea (: I plan on doing a sculpture of bell rock (in Sedona) as a basking platform or just decor to climb on and around. Lol who knows how it’ll turn out but I’m going to try my best.
@@summern3064 Yea absolutely, plus in the future if you ever wish to change the enclosure since close to two decades is still a good while, so if you ever wish to change the enclosure, you could look into the likes of 8-10ft tanks if ya can fit them, as beardies are good sized lizards imo (1-2ft or so) and are quite active when comparing them to Leos.
As Leos need around 3ft I believe and the minimum for beardies is 4ft 🤦♀️, but once you compare that putting a beardie in a 4ft tank is like putting a Leo in a 1 1/2 ft (18 inch) tank, whereas putting a Leo in a 3ft or so tank is like putting a beardie in a 8-10ft tank, plus beardies are bigger; more active and need higher temps, plus if you go bigger than 6 ft you can add two basking spots, so you can have one that you have the usual temps at (I forget them at this moment I'm just awake), but then you can ahev a second of around 46°c (115°f) I believe (I could be wrong) for the second one 🤔 if that number is wrong, pretty much you can have one hotter basking spot so the beardie has more options and the 6+ ft of length still provides plenty of space to allow for the cold side to still be right, but that means having two halogens one for each both basking spot and then potentially a CHE at night if the ambient temps get too low, which is a little pricey, but I guess removing the cost of swapping a 3 part substrate around 8 inches depth even in a 6ft tank would still safe you more money 🤷♀️
Oh, and if you want some more good sources for information. Check out reptiles amino on well the amino app or you can sign in via searching it on Google too. Some good guides on there and really educated people, even ways to set up a full tank guide 😅 guess some people were a little sick of seeing some less ideal tanks tho the guide is still around 5ft which is fine for the time being.
Oh, and a site can be reptifiles if you haven't heard of it already 😋
I really love kenan's facility.
I personally quite love the idea of a tortoise, tho they wouldn't be something I'd get unless I have a full room or at least part of a room to spare, as their enclosures can be pretty big, 8x4ft being minimums for smaller species, if I remember right, and minimums for some things are even getting bigger and bigger, like 4x2ft nowadays to me and some other people I've talked to / read from sounds very small for a beardie, and once you compare beardie and Leos a 4x2ft sounds pretty small and putting a beardie in that size is like putting a Leo in a 18 inch long tank, whereas going by the leo minimum which I believe to be around 3ft of length is like putting a beardie in an 8ft long tank, plus taking in that beardies are both bigger and more commonly more active than beardies, I would probably end up putting a beardie in the likes of a 10 X 4 --- 5 X 3 1/2 --- 4ft (LxWxH) just to give them plenty of space to run, and turn it bio so the 8 inches of substrate depth doesn't empty my pockets, I'd love to do bio for as many things as possible even if I can't do plants just to remove that substrate cost of swapping it out every few months for a full clean especially with high quality mixes, yk?
Anyway, I am the type of person that I'd love to be able to for the most part live out of my mum, to skip some areas of cost as to give animals better things in other areas.
Growing vegetables for feeder insects that I would be breeding and also vegetables for the herbivores and omnivores. Also hopefully breeding mice; rats; chicks and quail as feeders, tho not housing them anywhere near the predators aka snakes; monitors etc as that would be seriously irresponsible. As well as chickens / quail / poultry provides eggs that I can egg; feed to some of my animals and potentially donate etc to the likes of dog shelters to help with extra protein in their diet and eggs are good for dogs stomachs, plus ofc some variety.
So, anyways after research I have put down that unless I have good space; income / resources than a tortoise especially multiple wouldn't be for me as they are a long and quite expensive commitment. Oh and ofc last time I checked unless your environment suits them tortoise tables are out as they don't hold humidity or ambient temps, sooo.. if you don't got the environment for them then the enclosure would be even more expensive like in my case, I'd need flooring; walls and the top hehe
Why did you write an essay
@@dannym1642 Because I can, does it matter?
oh jeez haha umm i think a tort would be good in a garage. also 4x2 isnt small for a beardie id say its the perfect size or maybe even a bit large
I love Kenan , my favorite is Guapo he's such a ham.
Kenan brought me to your page after Bobby's build 🥰
Its really awesome seeing the two of you collaborate! And a turtle is a must!! The whole back yard Tanner!!
Yeah, he's a cool dude. I can see where you guys would become good friends. You both take excellent care of your animals. That was fun exploring his Campground. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for sharing this one ☝️. I love tortoises. Pretty much all turtles except snapping turtles 🐢 LOL
Common snapping turtles are one of my favs 😅
Kenan is 47?! I guess the reptiles keep him young!
I thought he was in his mid thirties! He looks so young!!
Man, how awesome, I've got two aquariums of African Cichlids, a 55, and a 75, both overstocked but very well filtered, I am jealous you got to swim with those, that entire farm is a reptile and animal lovers dream.
Kenan should get a sailfin dragon, he has the perfect space for it!
Yes i think it's perfect for the Aquascape Pond Sailfin In PH or in Indonesia.
An amboinensis would be awesome
Every creature given space and respect. What a great place.
Wow…47!!!! I’m 45 and I’ve been watching your channel thinking you were at least ten years younger than me…you’ve inspired me, made my day xxx
This was amazing! Absolutely incredible passion for both the animals and land.
Oohhh I want to see a paludarium/pond scape for a musk turtle.
Discovered you through Kamp Kenan when you built the amazing enclosure for Bobbie, the little black throat monitor. Your understanding of the soil as an ecosystem in itself is wonderful. I teach biology and plan to incorporate your videos into my lessons. Thank you so much !
Wow just wow. I clicked on for the Rift Lake cichlids, but wow the reptiles really were cool. 😎
What a place. I remember his pond being built, and my has it worked out well. Nice one guys.
kenan giving the lizards eggs like: may i offer you an egg in this trying time?
How can you _not_ catch turtle fever at kenan's? Such a great tour!!
Totally 😂
Wow, what an amazing collection of animals! All are so well cared for and happy. Great video.
Dude finally!!! lol Get a 3 Striped Mud, Mississippi Mud, Stinkpot, Loggerhead Musk, Razorback Musk etc, so you can keep plants too 🐢🤟
Tortoises and turtles are amazing. I’ve had my box for 24 years now
You can really feel how much Kenan loves his animals. They’re all gorgeous and seem so content.
Wow, he even has Galapagos turtles, amazing!
I wish everyone cared about their animal's as much as you and Kenan. Thank you!
The everytime I see a new video of your enclosures i am more impressed with the work involved in giving your critters a realistic environment to live in!
Wow those animals are so happy and pampered. They know they have it good! What a cool guy he is
Really enjoyed this video. That place is truly paradise.
As long as you spend time with a tortoise and associate with them, they will really love you. I volunteered at an animal shelter where the tortoise they had loved butt scratches! lol
A lot of tortoises will raise and shake their rear ends if you scratch it but it’s not a sign of enjoyment. They’re really trying to get rid of/shake you off.
Here’s an idea: if you have the space for a big outdoor cage, maybe a cold-tolerant communal European enclosure? Eurasian tortoises, several european lizards, maybe even Sheltopusiks?
Thats a great idea, I’ve always been fascinated with European reptiles
This is a really great one, Tanner! Pumped that you guys are friends.
Wow what a property. Absolutely amazing. Idk if I could handle the Florida humidity but that state looks more appealing by the day.
Thank you for such a lovely tour of Kamp Kenan! This video is now one of my favorites, since you captured such beautiful, up close footage of his family of Tortoises. I've adored the Galapagos species since I was a 9 year old and got to hang out with one at the San Diego Zoo. Probably will never live in a place or climate that is good for them, but love seeing them like this. Thank you!
Man you are awesome I mean I have never seen such a beautiful animal specially a monitar lizard
what a paradise.
i am really jealous of kenan 😀
Wonderful husbandry! Thank you so much for the quality of these enclosures!
watching this just made me so happy
An Eastern box turtle in your yard may look cool, or maybe a painted or mud turtle in your 150g aquarium
Beautiful! What a lovely thing to do for your parents!
This is one of the coolest places in the world… it has a home feel to it and has flow
Thanks, Serpa I also made a terrarium after seeing your videos it is doing great, I just need to trim the bushes from time to time and the rest is so beautiful. Thanks for giving us such relaxing moments in such stressful times😌😇😊
Awesome video! Def need to do some more collabs. The Indian spotted turtle , croc monitor & rhino iguana are super cool!
This was such an amazing tour :)
Love you both guys :) and love your collab vids
GREAT Video!!! I'm a Kamp Kenan follower also and to hear the 2 of you talking about the animals was like watching 2 long lost brothers coming together!! Really enjoyed all the information... can't wait to see you guys do more work together.....
Really enjoyable walking thru Kamp Kenan with you, time just seemed to drift away.
Kamp Kenan is one amazing dude!!! He loves his animals soo sooo sooooo much! I love watching his channel
You are near me!! At the title- I Need a Turtle- Ya you do!
2 of my favorite reptile keepers on UA-cam
Wow. Thanks for sharing! This place is incredible🤘🏻
this video filled me with so much love, you guys’ passion is so contagious!! I hope we get to see more collaborations between you two in the future :)
Amazing placed. Thanks for sharing this
The cichlid pond takes the cake 😉
Great tour and company. Animals always steal the show! It was great to hear your enthusiasm for getting another turtle. I'm really looking forward to following that journey. 🙂
What a beautiful environment, so full of life!
This video made me so happy. I really appreciate you both and have learned so much from each of you . All we needed was Ed. 😂 seriously love y’all and peace ✌🏻
Ed's a good dude and very knowledgeable.
What amazing animals! Lovely dispositions lol Thanks so much for sharing Tanner. 😊
Fantastic vid! Watched Kenan for years and is great to see another visiting his place. Great footage. Love your channel also keep up the great work! Paul
Two of my favorite youtubers! This was awesome to watch
Beautiful place, it's so clear that he cares for all his animals. Must be a ton of work to maintain everything though, but I guess it's his full time job?
Yeah he does it full time now.
This was a really fun episode! Thanks Tanner & Kamp Kenan!
when you swam through the cichlids, it reminded me of jolly roger bay or dire dire docks from Super Mario 64 and how you can swim through the fish :) brought back some fond memories with it :)
I love the head bobbing that Lola and Guapo are doing 😂
Two of my favorite UA-cam keepers awesome awesome awesome video!!!
Awesome tour and thanks for sharing, such a beautiful facility for all those beautiful animals!
Best video ever
Wow the tour at Kamp Kenan was soo cool! Didn't expect tortoises to be that personable :O
This was awesome Tanner !! Thanks for another great video
Time to relocate to Florida- grow the channel even more.
aww the tortoises are so cUTE
So beautiful and nice to follow you two around!
Soooooooo wonderful!!!!!!
Wow! This guy is living the dream! Too bad there aren't more people creating these little animal sanctuaries instead of having pesticide filled lawns in front of their homes.
Kennan should have his own show on animal planet.
Fantastic video, Tanner!! Well done and super interesting.
Such a cool video. So interesting to see all the different turtles and lizards.
Gaupo’s face when they stop petting him 😁
So... Lizards.. REPTILES. Like being petted so much they will close their eyes like humans in a kiss, apparently. Mind blown.
That was incredible. I kindof don't want to leave
now I can’t wait for that turtle habitat build video 😄
Two serious animal lovers there
You should do this with other reptile places like the reptarían or snake discoveries. That would be sweet
I loved seeing vids of you at Kamp Kenan! BR’s enclosure looks great.
I love Kenan's pond. I'm curious how well the Cichlids do during the winter.
Super cool
Keenan's place is just amazing
Always a good video when a wild Kenan appears in sandals. However I bet a handful of good size Otto cats would clear that algae up
Amazing, dream come true
You may be the only person on UA-cam capable of this, but what if you tried making the floating mountains from avatar into a terrarium / any type of build ????
Already done by AntsCanada 🤩
Your channel deserves 100 million subscribers .
I can't believe this collab, nice!
Nice mini zoo! Thanks for sharing.
