  • In this one, I take you on a tour of ‪@KampKenan‬'s personal reptile collection/zoo! From turtles to monitor lizards, and even a cichlid swim pond, this place has it all. Most of these animals are very personable and want to interact with you as well... or maybe they just want food lol!
    Either way, I wanted you all to see this through my lens. It was such an amazing experience that got me really excited about animals I don't currently keep, like turtles. That's something we definitely have to integrate into the animal room ASAP! I forgot just how personable and cool they really are.
    Until then, enjoy the tour and let me know what animal you liked best!

    Being able to spend time and interact with such incredible animals was awesome! It made me realize that I need a turtle/tortoise in my life again. I forgot just how personable and cool they are. If you were me, what turtle would you keep? I have a few in mind, but I'm curious about your thoughts. If all goes according to plan, this should happen soon. Stay tuned!

    I think tortoise is objectively the best pet reptile. They're relatively low maintenance. They're personable and friendly. They're herbivores, and their poop doesn't stink.

    Being a fan of Kenan, it was really cool to watch this video and see the Kamp from your perspective. His place is absolutely beautiful! For anyone who is not a viewer of Kenans channel, he has moved Pinky out of the large enclosure and Slinky has the whole thing to himself now. They didn’t attack each other, Kenan just felt that she was a bit stressed out because Slinky was non-stop trying to romance her. 🤣😂 She is back in their original enclosure and relaxing. I’m glad I found your channel and I’m happy to subscribe to another reptile lover!🐍❤️🐍

      That's a really great idea, rescuing can be great for all animals, but for tortoises it can also be good cause many get dumped or rehomed after people realise they are too much work / too expensive or realise how long a tortoise or a lot of animals can live, As some even common reptiles like leopard geckos (around 30 years), ball pythons (oldest around 60 year I believe), bearded dragons (around 30 years) can live a long time, and people don't realise how long of a commitment that can, that's why I hope to rescue most pets I get especially the more common; misunderstood or just some of common neglected ones 🤷‍♀️

    • @summern3064
      @summern3064 3 роки тому +2

      @@Reptile_Gecko awww that’s so sweet, beardies don’t live that long, sadly though. The oldest (that we know of) was born in 97’ and died at 18 years old. You both have such good hearts. I’m in the middle of building an arid bio active similar to the one Tanner posted here a couple months ago. 5’3’3’ for a bearded dragon. ((: Bio active will work well since I live in AZ and they need more humidity than 10%> I have a binder full of all the information on the lizards and snakes and tortoises I plan on keeping, rescuing is such a good idea (: I plan on doing a sculpture of bell rock (in Sedona) as a basking platform or just decor to climb on and around. Lol who knows how it’ll turn out but I’m going to try my best.

    • @Reptile_Gecko

      @@summern3064 Yea absolutely, plus in the future if you ever wish to change the enclosure since close to two decades is still a good while, so if you ever wish to change the enclosure, you could look into the likes of 8-10ft tanks if ya can fit them, as beardies are good sized lizards imo (1-2ft or so) and are quite active when comparing them to Leos.
      As Leos need around 3ft I believe and the minimum for beardies is 4ft 🤦‍♀️, but once you compare that putting a beardie in a 4ft tank is like putting a Leo in a 1 1/2 ft (18 inch) tank, whereas putting a Leo in a 3ft or so tank is like putting a beardie in a 8-10ft tank, plus beardies are bigger; more active and need higher temps, plus if you go bigger than 6 ft you can add two basking spots, so you can have one that you have the usual temps at (I forget them at this moment I'm just awake), but then you can ahev a second of around 46°c (115°f) I believe (I could be wrong) for the second one 🤔 if that number is wrong, pretty much you can have one hotter basking spot so the beardie has more options and the 6+ ft of length still provides plenty of space to allow for the cold side to still be right, but that means having two halogens one for each both basking spot and then potentially a CHE at night if the ambient temps get too low, which is a little pricey, but I guess removing the cost of swapping a 3 part substrate around 8 inches depth even in a 6ft tank would still safe you more money 🤷‍♀️
      Oh, and if you want some more good sources for information. Check out reptiles amino on well the amino app or you can sign in via searching it on Google too. Some good guides on there and really educated people, even ways to set up a full tank guide 😅 guess some people were a little sick of seeing some less ideal tanks tho the guide is still around 5ft which is fine for the time being.
      Oh, and a site can be reptifiles if you haven't heard of it already 😋

  • @Reptile_Gecko
    @Reptile_Gecko 3 роки тому +42

    I personally quite love the idea of a tortoise, tho they wouldn't be something I'd get unless I have a full room or at least part of a room to spare, as their enclosures can be pretty big, 8x4ft being minimums for smaller species, if I remember right, and minimums for some things are even getting bigger and bigger, like 4x2ft nowadays to me and some other people I've talked to / read from sounds very small for a beardie, and once you compare beardie and Leos a 4x2ft sounds pretty small and putting a beardie in that size is like putting a Leo in a 18 inch long tank, whereas going by the leo minimum which I believe to be around 3ft of length is like putting a beardie in an 8ft long tank, plus taking in that beardies are both bigger and more commonly more active than beardies, I would probably end up putting a beardie in the likes of a 10 X 4 --- 5 X 3 1/2 --- 4ft (LxWxH) just to give them plenty of space to run, and turn it bio so the 8 inches of substrate depth doesn't empty my pockets, I'd love to do bio for as many things as possible even if I can't do plants just to remove that substrate cost of swapping it out every few months for a full clean especially with high quality mixes, yk?
    Anyway, I am the type of person that I'd love to be able to for the most part live out of my mum, to skip some areas of cost as to give animals better things in other areas.
    Growing vegetables for feeder insects that I would be breeding and also vegetables for the herbivores and omnivores. Also hopefully breeding mice; rats; chicks and quail as feeders, tho not housing them anywhere near the predators aka snakes; monitors etc as that would be seriously irresponsible. As well as chickens / quail / poultry provides eggs that I can egg; feed to some of my animals and potentially donate etc to the likes of dog shelters to help with extra protein in their diet and eggs are good for dogs stomachs, plus ofc some variety.
    So, anyways after research I have put down that unless I have good space; income / resources than a tortoise especially multiple wouldn't be for me as they are a long and quite expensive commitment. Oh and ofc last time I checked unless your environment suits them tortoise tables are out as they don't hold humidity or ambient temps, sooo.. if you don't got the environment for them then the enclosure would be even more expensive like in my case, I'd need flooring; walls and the top hehe

    You should do this with other reptile places like the reptarían or snake discoveries. That would be sweet

    I love Kenan's pond. I'm curious how well the Cichlids do during the winter.
