Sitting around couple years? When I store mine annually I drain everything all gas from engine and tank carb bowl everything!! Start fresh every spring👍
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I think he knows that now. Thanks again !
Load the parts cannon! 🎉 Sometimes you need to buy stuff. Never assume the carbs are clean and the gas is mixed properly! Just another day at TOO.😊
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. One of those days! Hahaha Thanks again !
Check Out Pt 3 the finale !
I have seen a lot of that green coating in motorcycle carbs that have sat to long with ethanol fuel in them. Remember, ethanol is corn based and will support biological growth if left to sit. Many people in Michigan are sticking to ethanol free ‘Recreation’ fuel these days. Our stuff sits too long up here with our short 10-12 week summer seasons. We can by ‘Recreation fuel’ fuel pretty much at most places near marinas.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Wow 10-12 week summer, I would die! Hahaha. Thanks again and stay tuned for the next episode !
We all have an acquaintance that seems to attract technical or mechanical problems like a magnet. My experience is that they invariably go about their merry way, taking shortcuts like using parts in marginal condition, skimping on maintenance, ignoring clear signs of malfunction and thinking that things will heal up by themselves. No, they won't as "garbage in, garbage out". They just eventually end up with a compounded mess. Well at least it makes for an endless series of vids. Regards !
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I don't really believe that to be the case in this situation. A person that don't know, just don't know. It's a learning process. It took two years just to get the boat legal to go in the water and meanwhile everything sat. I would've never believed those carbs were in that kind of shape from just a couple years of sitting, never seen anything like that in all my years. Seems like something else was going on there. Anyway he's already ordered a new control, flushed his tank and will only use non ethanol from now on, and rewired the tilt n trim and got it working again, thank goodness! It's been a father/son project, I think they'll be fine. Thanks again & Stay tuned for the next episode !
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Well, as a first hand responder, you definately know better. Have a great week !
You are a great teacher! You remind me a former co-worker who took the time to show me the things you need to do on maintaining an outboard and your boat in general. Thanks for continuing to share your knowledge!
Hey. Thanks, I'm just helping out! Stay tuned for the next episode !
Sounds like it’s running on one cylinder like it is either low on compression on one cylinder or like it has a fuel restriction on the low speed circuit. I like to clean the jets out with a piece of copper wire. The worst is the older omc carbs that require you to remove the pressed in Welch plugs to be able to clean out the fuel circuits and tap new ones in when you are done. Looking through a phone screen it is hard to say why it is running low on power because a lot of different things can cause that exact running condition, but my bet is a fuel system problem since you said it sat for two years and ethanol fuel doesn’t do well sitting for that long! There is just so much I would be addressing on this boat and engine. Some guys who aren’t mechanically inclined just aren’t meant to own a 2 stroke outboard. And if that gear case still won’t shift smoothly into both forward and reverse after you have tried all of your control cable adjustments then the issue could be that you have a bent shift shaft or the shift shaft itself itself is a turn or two out of adjustment. Another thing is with the motor mounts being that sloppy the shift shaft can come in contact with the pivot tube and cause it to bind or bend and make it difficult to go into gear. It is definitely out of adjustment.
Hey. Thanks for watching and commenting. Really appreciate it. Stay tuned for the next Episode !
Whenever you put your boat up make sure you run all the gas out of the carburetor never leave it sit in there especially when is the ethanol that’s why I run ethanol free
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. He's learning!
Ethanol caused all the brass to turn green. You can run ethanol gas up to 10% but you can't let it sit in the carbs, especially for a couple of years.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I've never seen anything like that and I've cleaned many a carburetor, some sat for 10 years or more. Even that 40 sat for 5 years or more before I got. Crazy! Thanks again & Stay tuned !
OMG - Seems that there is a lot to do from cleaning carbs and fuel pump, fixing trim and tilt, and working on the key switch and controls. It'll be good to see the final product. I'll bet it flies when you're done.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. It flew on my boat! Never would have guessed it was that far gone in just 2 years. Crazy. Thanks again & Stay tuned!
carbs can be a pain in the ass when clogged up.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I can't remember ever seeing a green, bone dry carburetor on a 2 stroke. Wheres the oil? Hahaha crazy! Thanks again & Stay tuned !
that restrictor really needs to be replaced. needs all the water pressure it can get at idle to get water to reach #1 cyl. also hear its running on only 1 cyl a few clips, especially at the end.
Hey. Yeah he's gonna pick one up and a new hose.
Sounds like hitting on only 1 cylinder the struggle is real 😅🤦♂️🤙 Ethanol the governments way to destroy food supply and internal combustion engines at the same time
Hey. Yeah I think it was more like half a cylinder! What a mess! Thanks again !
Wouldn't be surprised if the reverse portion of the Clutch Dog is about shot. With it not getting fully engaged into reverse they start getting rounded off quickly.
Big Al What's Up! Stay tuned for the next episode !
I'm trying to be rude to the guy, if you don't know, you don't know but he really needs to watch more TOO. You're doing a great job teaching him what he needs to know. I'm just glad he is starting out on lakes and not off shore or he will need rescuing at some point. There is a lot to short out on that boat but it has great potential. Keep up the good work
Hey. Thanks, really appreciate you watching and commenting. Stay tuned !
Maybe he shared the prop pin
No pin in that prop. Stay tuned for Part 3 coming up today!
Yeah that isn't even close to full throttle, he should be doing twenty five mph at least imo, I like that style trim pump i have even an older tiller I think eighty two that utilizes a different pump that is super hard to find if you need one.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yeah she's clogged up pretty bad! Stay tuned for the next Episode !
Boat owners like that is just job security for you and other mechanics even as much as it sucks.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Hahaha, that's what I use to say back when I was flipping outboards. The worse they were the cheaper they were! Thanks again & Stay tuned !
👍+++++ 😺
Wazzzuuup!
Not to be annoying but those old 1960S two stick Simplex controls are not made for those newer engines Cmon Man,LOLLLL! He needs the single lever. The motors throttle advance, neutral safety switch isnt mechanically timed to the old Simplex cable travels,HA!.Youll never know what youll see in UA-cam land pretty humorous ,LOLL!
Your 100% right He needs to get the correct single lever control box with the proper travels for starting with the neutral safety switch...
i like them but for a customer no way! just too dangerous. also has no overheat alarm i rig them separately
Yeah. He ordered a new one. Thanks again !
I like them too!
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Those old Simplex Controls are great for 40HP and below up until 1976 I think it was when they made the last 40Hp with the lowtension ignition and coils on the cylinder head.
Wow!That guy is learning a lot about boat ownership and proper maintenance.Shame he didn’t take care of a good motor before he let it sit.
He's learning! Thanks for tuning in!
If it's 0ne of those days, why do they come so often. That guy needs to look at a servce manual and comprehend what he's reading..hope he tipped you for picking your brain😅
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yes he did! And I was happy to help. Thanks again !
How can I contact you ihave a 40 hp Suzuki...i need you to get it running n connect controls to it...if u can ....
Hey. Thanks for asking, I appreciate it but I'm not taking on any extra projects right now. Getting to backed up around here. Your best bet would be to pick up a manual specific to your year/model. It will show you the proper procedures for setting up the cables and will have a great troubleshooting section to get it running. Or find someone that knows their way around them. I really don't have any experience with Suzuki outboards, same with Mercury, they're a whole different animal. Try ebay for a good used manual, cheap! Thanks again !
U ok
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yeah how bout you!
Take the intake off, ( can be done with power head still attached ) , take reeds off and remove Reed stops. Bend Reed stops to let reeds open close to 3/8th in at tops of reeds.
Reinstall intake manifold. Aquire a set of large bore 50 hp carbs.
Install carbs adjust linkage so both carbs are completely closed at idle position. You will have close to 60 hp.
These old blocks are the same ports as the APBA SST 45 class.
And the blocks these folks look for.
Remember to buy a knew intake gasket as old one will tear once removed.
You can cut the head down too. But I forget the spec on the combustion chamber. It's like 160 or more on the compression gage.
RUN PRIEMIUM FUEL AND 40:1 OIL/GAS MIXTURE.
I USE TO BE A TECH INSPECTOR FOR APPBA CHAMP BOAT CIRCUIT.
A buddy of mine has my old spec book on all the classes from super lite tunnels to the S 3000 mercury Champ motors.
Have fun !!! It REALLY wakes them up and people think it's a 40.
Lol.
You'll find the reeds stops only let the reeds open less then 1/4 " .
And carbs( 3 different size venturi's also. You want the carbs off the 50 hp or 60/ 70 hp 3 holers. Cylinders
This will work on all the 2 cylinder omc's thru to when Bombardier bought out OMC.. # 335663 is the gasket part #.
Also, adjust throttle roller to just contact the cam at the imposed line on the cam.
If the roller has lost the outside plastic piece you can go to ace hardware and get a pice of clear plastic tube .
Push down over roller and cut excess tubing.
It will be about 3/4 " long or so.
Or you can go to your dealer and buy the roller for 12 bucks or so
Surprised he didn't burn the engine from a lean condition. Sounds to me it's only running on q cylinder.
REMEMBER,,, if it's not getting fuel,,, it's not getting oil.
When adjusting cables, shift control box into forward gear and then come back HALF way to neutral, now set throttle cable trunion to just fit into slot as you pull on cable towards the idle position. Now go full into forward gear with shift handle and put gearcase into full forward position. Adjust barrel on shift cable to slot.
Reinstall plate and screw or screws. Pull back to neutral and you're done.
This is how you adjust cables on an omc outboard per there service manual.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Yeah that sounds like something I would have done but I picked up the 55, 60/70 horse instead. I will pass this on to the owner so he knows he has options. Thanks again & Stay tuned!
