Spengler never mentions him in his work, but Vico is the originator of the entire cultural relativist point of view of history. Read and understand Vico and you’ll see it corresponds exactly with Spengler’s model of history, ie pre-cultural period to the Age of Gods, early culture to the Age of Heroes, and late culture to the Age of Men.

@Internet Entity Hot take: I'd argue that we already went through Caesarism back after WWI in the West. The West fell in 1914, and that was followed by a "Dark Age", of sorts. However, due to having more advanced technology and systems of communication,/transportation, it lasted only a quarter of the time that most previous dark ages have.
Now, the "New West" is in the early stages of springtime. World War II is the creation story of Modern Civilization. We are currently going through an ideological realignment - we're trying to figure out what the spirit of modern civilization is, and that's what this whole "culture war" is really all about. Though America, as an empire, is fundamentally decadent (as part of its own, separate empire cycle; not civilization), the West is not in a period of "peak decadence". Decadence was at its height throughout the West perhaps about a century ago. The decadence that we see now are merely the snows of spring.
Remember, the very first days of spring are often very cold, and winter weather still hits hard from time to time. But as the spring progresses, it will get warmer...

In 2014 some of these things seemed far-fetched, now it's really materializing.
Especially the "second religiousness" (critical race theory, diversity, climate) has really gone a LONG WAY since 2014.
The only thing we have basically not seen yet in Europe is democratic institutions becoming paralyzed and the rise of Ceasarism. Some say Trump is a ceasar but I don't think so. I see him more as a reformer not as a revolutionary or dictator.
So that is still missing, we still don't really have any Ceasars.
On the other hand we are already seeing who already practising "private politics and control": Muslim Family Clans.

      @Brandon _37 yeah , but honestly I don't know who to believe.
On one hand there sure was some fraud.
But was it so big that it affected 10.000s of ballots so that the election was in fact rigged and that in several states?
Republicans did very well in Senate and House Elections (Actually better than anyone could have expected.).
So one has to look at evidence. Most republicans seem to be quiet.
Trump certainly has the right to a recount but the Courts will only go further than that if there is substantial evidence that the victory margin is in doubt at least partially due to fraud etc.
As far as I'm concerned it's not going to be enough for Trump either way, but the election shows that the American ballot system is totally not up to date.
There's a good chance that America learns from this for 2024, because otherwise all close elections from now on will be contested and no nation can survive that for long.

There is a saying that the true prophet is one whose prophesies come to pass. In that respect Spengler seems to be one of the true prophets of the ages. I love this vid every time I watch it. I present this to my Introduction to Philosophy students every semester in the final chapter on the meaning of life as progress in science and morals. One thing I like to point out is that the Decline of the West is not the end of the world. And like Toynbee said, we do not know what will remain when another civilization rises up after this one, what will be carried over we can not know.

At the risk of sounding rude, people's infatuation with Spengler and his "prophecies" is just an excuse for burying one's head in the sand and refusing to fight for truth, justice and refusing to admit one's addiction to the collective Zoo cage. Nothing is written in stone and everything is a test to separate the phony cowards from the truthful individual who refuse to be bullied by human parasites. Go after the perpetrators of 9/11, those who issue every $ bill with a debt attached to it, those who labor hard to demonize Islam and Muslims, those who create false-flag terror on a regular basis unchallenged...etc and you would have saved the West and the World. Not rude at all. But it is a point of view. Spengler would agree with you, too. Reality doesn't excuse us from acting. Spengler's is the affirmation of life as it is whether the civilization is in Spring or Winter. Would you say you would give up if you were in Spring? We do not know tomorrow, if may not be like yesterday. But that we will die is a fact of life. Just as the plant has a life cycle we, as organic beings, have a life cycle. Perhaps the earth itself has a life cycle.

The cyclic view of history is something which all great minds come to conclusion to.
Even the modern neo reactionary movement is technically a Modern day updated spengler's work. Ibn khaldun & even Hindu mythology shows us cyclic nature of history.
Different yugas through Which civilization goes. Take a look how many countries are facing population crisis. This is going to be make or break situation.
They would eventually have to implement policies to propagate traditional family in some way since they have more children but some nations would replace it with immigration & simply die. Becoming a caricature of the past.

However it is happening, not because the West would be some "elder", no it is happening, because hedonism got to people. Everyone has too much to lose, they'd rather enjoy themselves while they can, even if this might collapse civilization. If we continue on this current course then yes our people will die out and our Civilization will collapse, but history shows that after periods of decadence and decline a revitalization or even a total renaissance can happen. There are peoples and civilizations what have survived for all of written history. They have gone through multiple periods of decline and revitalization.
As the situation gets worse it will become exponentially easier to wake up even more people. If everyone of us starts to actively wake up even more people then we can easily wake up enough people that we can win political power in our own provincial governments and effectively peacefully secede and start re-industrializing and revitalizing our areas well before the big collapse.
The lemmings who can't be woken up will continue following the lying controlled media and politicians straight off the cliff, but they aren't our responsibility. We just have to make sure we have won control of the local governments in the areas where our awakened people are the majority and re-industrialized and prepared our areas well in advance. If/When we achieve that then waking up people will become even easier as we can show that our policies work while the criminal Elitist's policies only scam, rob, bankrupt and destroy.
After the big collapse the most important question will be should we accept the lemmings who caused the collapse by staying asleep like total fucking morons and voting the same corrupt Elitist criminal parties into power again and again and again ? Would accepting them back in sow the seeds of our next downfall generations in the future ? There has to be a point after what we have to accept that they really don't want to be part of our people anymore. That they knowingly choose to betray our people. Knowing we would never again accept them back in.

The person who backstabs and robs them the most is the person the media will tell them to vote for and they like lemmings follow. If we continue on this current course then it won't even take a hundred years for the West to totally collapse and die out, but people have a tendency to wake up when the situation gets bad enough.
Also this fucking doom and gloom isn't constructive at all. Its an easy way out for the people too pussy to actually step into the arena and struggle for the survival of their people. If everyone in the Western World was like the average cowardly degenerate then the West would have died out thousands of years ago. If everyone in the Western World was like me then we would never die out, but would colonize/conquer over a hundred thousand solar systems. I'm so sick and tired of this fatalistic doom and gloom porn that "Nothing can be done. Our fate is to die out.". After having read Nietzsche many times over the years, I've learned to stop quoting him, and just "keep him to myself". The only bit of Nietzsche I'd ever speak to publicly, was in Ecce Homo, when he proudly claimed the title of the greatest contradictor.
Coincides much with his desires in Zarathustra to never have anyone be a "Nietzschean", to always question even his perspective.
As for Spengler, still always a joy to read. I'm still getting over the perspective I gained after reading Man and Technics. I look at all of this madness, smartphones in every hand, everyone holding up their smartphone camera the second they see something interesting, I CAN'T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY!.... yak... it's just more chains. It's very hard to speak to these points to most people, because instantly the layman will think "you're a luddite!"; of course, that is wrong, so one must avoid even this. The only "will to power" all of this has served is an unprecedented will to power in the form of a surveillance-world for those who hold the reigns of power; and unfortunately, those are the people who are bitterly full of hate toward the west.
... well, these sentiments are also influenced by Klages. I'm curious if the editor of these videos is familiar with Ludwig Klages. I would think so since Spengler thought so highly of him.
BTW, loved the use of Thomas Cole's Course of Empire. Couldn't think of a better choice. One of my absolute favorite series of paintings.
Also, at 7:55, "Autumn", the bit about music, reminds me of Nietzsche talking about Richard Wagner, how the tired degenerates need something loud and chaotic to get enough strength to stand up. I suppose it's not far off from your average modern gym rat who is in there trying to pump more iron from their heavy metal screaming music playlist, or worse yet, the lifelessness of this modern electronic music, dubstep, and all of the other monstrosities, that help the coffee-sipping robots grind their gears long enough to get through their miserable day as a slave in the capitalist system; oops, now I'm borrowing from Goebbels.

The Faustian likening of Western civilization is very fascinating. Could modern liberalism/egalitarianism simply be a final futile attempt to control one's surroundings. Think about it. In modern America liberals repeatedly blame themselves (namely white men) for the failings of minorities. By taking blame for minorities' failings liberals feel they are in control. In other words they think "If we messed it up we can fix it." By accepting the realities of biological determinism, cultural inequality, etc. the plight of minorities ceases to be in their (the liberal do-gooder's) control.

It is the Right that seeks to disallow basic liberties as Freedom of Speech. It is the Right who wish to control what men put into their bodies and what women wish to remove. The Caucasoid people seem to forget that it is there will that has guided Western Civilization with their Semitic desert cult called Christianity.

What finally killed it was the French Revolution. What the West needs right now is Orthodoxy. And then the centres of civilisation will not be London, or Berlin, or Paris, but rather Moscow, Athens, Constantinople and Belgrade.

In all seriousness though, I definitely do not think that the West has been in decline since then. Rather, that was when the Church’s own morphology began to culminate. As for the West, I’d say that it existed in its “highest form” from 1649 - 1914. That was our equivalent of the Greek Classical Era.

Just finished watching this, and I have to say its an amazing summary of Spengler's work. Kudos to you for making such an awesome and informative video. The events of the past year have really convinced me that Spengler was correct in his analysis of the development of Western Civilization. From the force-politics of cancel culture and banning of conservative opinions, to the fomenting of unrest in the massive urban populations, to the stagnation of the economy, the mass media manipulation of the people, and the breakdown of even the most fundamental aspects of human society (defund the police, no differences between men and women, 500 different genders, quarantines and lockdowns without end, etc.), I have to admit Spengler foresaw what was coming with greater accuracy than all the intellectual elite of today put together.
I would argue that Trump is a proto-Caesar, since one of Spengler's defining characteristics of a Caesar is support from his followers on the basis of personal loyalty rather than party allegiance. Had Trump established martial law, we would have seen a civil war comparable to that in the late Classical between Marius (whose Western equivalent is probably a Democrat with military experience such as Buttigieg or Gabbard) and Sulla (Trump). The fierce opposition of the Caesars to money-politics is also shockingly similar to Trump's fight against the Washington Establishment. I think that in the future we will see more presidents like Trump who challenge the power of money until the system becomes so unstable that armed dictators seize control amidst mass riots and civil war.

    • @Resuge
      @Resuge 2 роки тому +1

The Kennedy brothers were the Gracchus brothers of our time. Reformers who were assassinated by the Deep State. Moreover, Democrats will morph into the "Optimates" and the Republicans under Trump's political lineage will represent populistic interests. I also think there will be a Constitutional crisis in the coming election cycles (2024-2032) as the Democrats will try to dispute any populistic victories and attempt to exile (i.e. cancel) the populistic factions.
As for how the Empire of the West will form, using Spengler's model, I predict that America will go to war either with China or Russia or both and use this war as a pretense to permanently bring Europe, NA, and the Caribbean under American control through NATO/EU. We are already seeing this with the Ukraine crisis. The crisis itself is peripheral to the Western world yet is being used to expand NATO/EU as well as reinforce American hegemony (as an example, Germany is sacrificing its national economic interests to comply with American interests). The Ukraine crisis is but a preview of how America will nucleate the West.

Trump is not a proto-Caesar, he is simply another American populist; I would, however, deem him a proto-Sulla. Also, the Caesars will *NOT* be opposed to the power of money, this kind of irrational hatred for resources goes against the very nature of the Caesar. He will be a being that accumulates power, in all of it's forms, at any cost; as such, he will have no particular disdain towards finances and will likely be keen to use them to his advantage. His *FOLLOWERS* will be opposed to money, an irrationality the Caesar will be ready to take advantage of.
We see this even in the very men that gave Spengler his namesake for the phenomenon; Julius Caesar was the richest man in Rome due to his Gallic conquests, and readily used those resources to secure his power through the ever-so-famous "Bread & Circuses". Even before he had wealth, he routinely borrowed from the moneyed elite to enact his plans. After him, we have Augustus; who is literally the richest being in human history & used the vast wealth of the Egyptian provinces to secure the loyalty of the legions (something which would become tradition for the Emperors).
This weird fetish Spengler had for hating money doesn't make sense in the context of the Caesars he speaks of, as these people will lust for power in *ALL* of it's forms & by *ANY* means necessary. They hold no ideological favorites/prejudices, and they care for nothing outside of the pragmatic acquisition of power. Them having a hate-boner for money doesn't make sense, and seems more like projection on part of Spengler.

what really scares me is the thought that our civilization might be the last. Never in history other civilizations attained the level of wealth, interconnectedness and raw destructive power that we have. One thing is the fall of Rome, going from 1,5 million to 50k people in the span of a few decades, another very different thing is going from 7-8 billion to 1-2 billion on a global scale, with nukes and ai. Even though Rome fell, it still exists. Life continued and a new civilization sprung up amongst it's ruins. I wonder if there would even be ruins after the fall of our civilization.

Even writing a historiography of Western Civilisation is an autumnal act by Spengler and belongs alongside collecting, archaeology, and that sort of thing. Marx's historiography likewise belongs firmly in Autumn. The difference being Spengler rightly identifies decay as the central theme, whereas Marx actually believes in Progress, and is confident that after Capitalism collapses, Socialism and then Communism will lead to a kind of reestablished Garden of Eden. They are basically the heavyweight secular historiographies but Christian eschatology really spells out the end, which is to say firstly, that there will be an end, and that time/history is linear not cyclical. The prophesied 'apocalypse', which literally means 'an uncovering' in Ancient Greek, will complete earthly history.

And it is clear, these symbols are incredibly strong and important to society, so, why not Prometheus ourselves in a way? Like Thomas Paine pointed out - the government is a tool for the people, and the people are the living. - Not the dead. What is the best of the Western Civilization's cultures that existed? Roman Government, Greek Philosophy, Hindu Art, Persian...stuff, or American...country music? Or all? Why not apply some science here and discard the worst of Western Civilization and preserve the best? Or preserve it all? Lastly, how the hell can I accomplish this if I am the only one walking away with this thought while others are walking away depressed? I guess...lead by example and see what happens? I can only be responsible for my own actions."

I think that Oswald Spengler pointed into the Russian civilization or orthodox world view as a young and surviving civilization that will be winning after the fall of western post-Christian or heretical civilization. The main conclusion of Spengler was in fact that for the time the new civilization is helped by God it will survive and then will DECLINE and become SERVANTS. He mentioned civilization of China as the first civilization, Chineese did not dissapere from the Earth they become servants, not-important, just example..Although even the elective nations such as Jews thru whom God gave his Law become servants and slaves once they stop to obey God. In fact civilization the way Spengler explains for western civilization starts when you leave God and his laws you were given. In fact, since 1054 West is the HERESY and EAST and ORTHODOX only keep God's laws properly and SLAVS with Russians, Serbs etc.. are WINNERS.
