    To me people nowadays are trying to min-max everything and by doing that they optimize fun out of the game. That is the problem why games aren't fun anymore to a lot of people.

      On point.
      I see my friends on discord getting into diablo 4 since a week. I was then thinking I should dive in with them. Until I saw they were already putting guides, min maxing videos and just maps of everything to do at high level in the discord chat.
      No thanks. I find this way of playing a game so boring and ruining the fun of discovering the world. At least for your first character.

      Same deal here. I gave GW2 a try something like 5 times by now and I always quit before level 80. And I don't understand why because everytime I play, I have a BLAST... for about a week. But I think trying to figure out what to do other than 100% maps in the world and playing (usually) by myself tends to get old quickly? I dunno. I always think of going back, all the time, and I have a great time for a little while... Maybe I should do it again.

    I think it's a common misconception in today's gaming scene that if a person stops playing a game for more than 2 weeks, it's an indication that they hate said game. I stopped playing GW2 for 4 months and didn't jump back on until I saw the JW release announcement. During my time off, my friends on Discord kept asking when I was going to delete the GW2 channel bc I hadn't played in so long. I refuse to let games turn into jobs. If I don't feel like playing, I won't. Great thing is, GW2 makes it really easy to take breaks.

    I think my personal problem with the game is that it just doesnt keep up with the times much at all. WoW/FF14 and even ESO have a lot more going for it than GW2. Granted GW2 has no sub, but like...the game has so many issues that need to be addressed and ANET simply wont do it. They just wanna add more toppings to the pizza to hide that the dough is old and crusty. I absolutely love GW2s style for everything, but it needs a brand new engine or GW3. I cant see myself coming back unless a lot of issues with the game get fixed.

    I also stopped. I played Secrets of the Obscure, but I really just do not like the whole Daily/weekly system. I much prefered when they were just simply gold, AP, and some basic resources, but I hate when it's a currency that is only obtained by the dailies/weeklies. Not only that but it's arbitrary goals, most I really do not want to do. Jumping puzzles, take a castle keep, eh....
    It took a massive hit in my books on enjoyability.

    • @Shortay1325
      @Shortay1325 22 дні тому +1

      I fully agree with you. While the new Daily/Weekly system is pretty neat in terms of astral acclaim & freedom to spend, I miss the old dailies. I really do not like some of the WvW and PvP dailies/weeklies. So much that I entirely put on PvE dailies/weeklies. This is the part that sucks because I would go into WvW and PvP more frequently and knock out the slightly easier ones. I was trying to understand why my burnout was accelerated and it finally came to me that I am not super happy with some things about SOTO/new daily system. I’ve been taking a break in 2024 so far. I’m sure I’ll go back because I love GW2, but I definitely just need a long break after playing almost every night for a while naturally… and admittedly accidentally min-maxing stuff.

      @Darkvulpine 22 дні тому

      @@Shortay1325 exactly. I much rather have freedom in how I play. Some dailies and weeklies are open ended. Like simply identifying gear. What I really hate is just overall feeling of fomo. But that's why I preferred when rewards were more generic, and not feeling like I'm missing points I could be getting.

    After 7k hours in gw2 I did quit and I will not come back. There are multiple reasons but the main one is how the game became old with mechanics and content. Of course a lot has been added but content has not changed at all. Pve used to be nice years ago, now it is just a memory of something that was good. Also what I started to hate about GW2 is how many actions are happening on the screen. Red circles here, yellow circle there, green circle again here and so on… it is just too much happening and it leads to exhaustion. I don’t want to compare gw2 to other games cuz all of them from the market have own issues but gw2 in particular have issues with no refreshed content which just became old due to no meaningful updates after years. But anyway… if there are ppl who never tried gw2 I highly recommend it as it is very casual friendly game, just keep in mind that after a while there is basically nothing meaningful to do.

    I just started a free account a few weeks ago, and I hit lvl 80 a couple nights ago. Your videos have taught me quite a lot about how to approach the game as an old GW1 player. The nostalgia hits are strong, but so far I've been enjoying checking out the maps, the fact that random quests spawn while I'm hanging around is very cool. This game actually works the way my gaming brain works... Playing Hogwarts legacy has also been a blast, but my time exploring in that game doesn't necessarily advance anything. In GW2 it actually does, and that's incredible. I will say I took a long break from exploration style to do hologram stampedes. I had no idea what I was doing at first (and didn't really do any other part of dragon bash), but kind of figured out how that mode works and had fun running after the crowd that was flying and roller beetling their way to the next point.
    That was a very long post for a youtube video, but I just wanted to share a little bit of my new player experience because you've helped me enjoy the game. Whatever you're doing today I hope you're having fun doing it!

    it's always good to take a break from things so that you can freshen your perspectives. sometimes working on something for too long can make it hard to appreciate. funnily enough, it's a philosophy of Yoshi P himself that it's okay for players to take a break from FFXIV, they won't be punished or fall behind on anything significant. right now my wife, who was the one who introduced me to the game, hasn't played since she finished the latest expansion, because she needed a breather and we started playing GW2 together, which has been fun for us as newbies. now we're getting excited for the new upcoming expansion for FFXIV again! i'm glad that you'll be finding a healthier balance by playing other games inbetween, and hope you continue to enjoy yourself!

  • @belgianht
    @belgianht 18 годин тому

    The thing about GW2 is that you don't need to grind or farm anything, loot gets thrown at you for whatever you do anyways, yet people go crazy about farm trains or farming specific zones just to squeeze that one or two extra gold out of it while that doesn't work it in the long run. Yesterday while I was just doing my weekly rifts, there were people in squad complaining about how grindy SotO is with all the rift farming for legendary while I've only done my weekly rifts/convergences and have the essences for one and a half set while it's not even my goal. Even sold lots of t2/t3 motivations the first few weeks/months when it was extremely profitable instead of hoarding them.
    The problem is that a lot of people just expect to get things instantly or get fixated on it instead of just enjoying the game itself but it's also kinda empowered by Anet for years by allowing the kp stuff etc on lfg's. By giving people stuff that can be used as kp and allowing it in the API keys, they gave people a way to "measure" experience in every specific aspect of the game and even new content quickly gets locked behind the kp gate on lfg. That mentality of min maxing everything just spreads through the other aspects of the game, even in places where it simply doesn't make a difference at all how much experience people have. It's better to play 30mins while having fun than doing a routine chore for 20mins.

    I loved the heck out of GW2 and I still think it was the best value for money you can get in the MMO space, but... I feel like I'm just completely done with the game now. I haven't played it in years, and now if I decide to play Janthir Wilds I'll have to play through 3 expansions (Icebrood Saga + End of Dragons + Secret of the Obscure) to catch up, so that's a bit daunting.

    You're not alone. SotO is just another "saga" and it's not a real expansion. Compare to the amount of content and the depth of the story from PoF and EoD, SotO is tiny and shallow. Which doesn't really makes me feel enthused about Janthir Wilds...I just rolled my eyes when I saw that title. There are so many new places we can visit and explore to the east of Elona and south of Cantha, why Janthir? And player housing? Just too little too late. Land spear should have been added in PoF, I mean the mobs are using it. To be honest, I'm done with mountains and forest biomes...we need an open plain or swamp areas.

    I took a 3 year long break starting from the beginning of LWS1. I don't regret it. The game felt new and exciting again when I came back, and in part, it was. A break is hardly ever a bad idea, especially in a game with horizontal progression.

    I'm glad you're finding that balance. I've never understood how content creators could stay happy playing one game. I'm happiest on a pretty frequent rotation between GW2, WoW, and FF14, with single player games thrown in too. Each MMO does something differently really well, and each has its weakness. I realized when I was getting burned out on FF14 the answer wasn't to be mad at the game, but to go play games that did that missing thing really well.

    Attempting to make something that you do "for fun, instead as work" is the fastest way to make it not fun imo. I understand not everyone can have this luxury, but that's why I haven't monetized any of my content. The Community's great but it's just too small to start-in full-time at a job.
    The good news is that Guild Wars 2 *is and always will be the perfect mmo to jump in & out of.* 7:50 This is a good video tho and one I feel that it's important for more people (especially creators) should watch. Having a "100% Quit or Heads-Down-Consume mentality is insane" but that's the world we live in. I can't talk but maybe give it a less click-baity title. Maybe add (A Healthier Take) at the end. Good video CD. You're looking good too! 😄

    for over 6000k game hours, i have had many break from the game, sometiems weeks, sometimes months, but that is the best thing on this game, its just there w8 for me and i dont have lost anything than maybe some festivals. many times breaks comes after long grinds, like legendary or skyscale. that is the spice of this game, if you want you could just play 24/7 grinding, or you can play very casually 15 minutes a day for dailys and everything you do always stack from some long term gols you can make

    GW2 and FFXIV compliment each other very well if you're planning on playing the 2 games. I love MMOs, and I juggle between a few of them to avoid getting burnt out. I play FFXIV, GW2, ESO, BDO, WoW (currently), LotRO, Destiny 2 and Division 2. I jump between those games every 2-4 months but I don't really do high end raiding (except FFXIV), in GW2 I stopped raiding after I got my legendary armors back in 2019 and only do raids in other games once for the experience. I'm just waiting for Dawntrail then I'm hopping back to 14 .

      @CaffeinatedDad I loved the playstyle for a long time for mesmer. I got keeping uptime on chaos armor down to a science, but from launch, they did major shifts to them. Eventually, every other profession left mesmers in the dust.
      If Mirage hadn't been are melee, if they didn't focus soo hard on shatters, and focused on the cool mechanics of cloning... the stats and conditions they can do and other things it'll be a different story
      My alt. Ranged Scourge condi is a killer at the moment though. I couldn't really get into Elementalist. If I could stay on one element and be viable I'd love it. Lol.

It seems every guild you want to join directs you to their website to fill out a form or some such(have to play X amount of time, have to be on for runs on X days, etc). I much preferred how the guilds felt/worked in wow.

    I do experience that kind of phase as gamer playing GW2 since 2020. And I can say, there at times, you'd be burn-out and that's normal. I play offline games or gacha ones in my mobile to ease everything and to clear one's self from exhaustion. Now, after months, I am back playing PvP. And yes, SPvP in GW2 can burn you out a lot with frustration that usually results to stress. So, one piece of advise, just balance everything and don't forget to stay away from the game once in a while to avoid unwanted stress or burn-out.

    I get you. Same here. To be truthful, I didn’t play the final “turtle run” episode of EoD and it was fine. Also didn’t play final episode of SOTO either. But I happily visit Crystal Desert almost daily (my fav) and bounce around other areas, events that appeal that day. I do Dragonstorm daily and the dailies. Often times that’s all I care to do. Yesterday I activated my level 80 boosted char from pre-purchased Janthir Wilds and leveled up a Chrono Sylvari. This will be my Janthir toon. Will be wild!

    Hallo! I've been following your channel for quite a while now and I love your content, which leads me to: I have some insight.
    1. - Don't care that you stopped. GW2 is a game that allows you to be burned out and take your time away to recover. So take your time and, when you go back, it will (we) will recieve you with open arms.
    2. - You need to take your time. Either you do, or you will turn this experience into something that is not enjoyable for you. Surely there is a certain quantity of struggle to turn something you love into a carreer, I can say that as a writer and as a psychologist, but if you are doing a slow, but steady, transition, things will come, when their time to come arrives.
    3. - I'm glad you found other gaming experiences that made you realize how much more you can do, all the while having way more pleasant experiences as a gamer, as a producer, as a father and so on.
    4. - Do not limit your content to a single thing. This will either make you, in the long run, hate whatever you are producing content about, or turn this into a burden (which has happened) even if you like it. Also, limiting your content to a single plataform or game will make your options to grow way way too few, and turn the experience of turning this into a carreer much much harder. So, yes PLEASE, expand your content. We love gw2, and your content about it, but if we are here, it's for your way to do things, not specifically gw2.
    That's it. Hope you take my insight to the heart

As a long time MMO player every time I come back to GW2 I realize why it is such a superior game to some others. I love GW2 but I also lost interest lately, I felt like every goal I had always needed gold so I would spend the whole day making gold, so I missed the other fun parts of gaming and SOTO wasnt very fun for me. I also feel like its substantially more work to make groups for strikes and raids so I cant just queue in like ffxiv and have some fast fun. And I also missed some really good story and I feel like SOTO was very weak, super cliche and extremely short, the story overall from all expansions lack on various aspects to me even though its okay.

    That's one of the beautiful things about FF14. Most people that come over from other games play it for a while enjoy it for however long they play, then head back to their main game. Refreshed and reinvigorated. So feel free to hop between games you want to play. Yoshi P encourages it and FF14 will always be here for you. Hope you get that passion for GW2 back again. It's never fun to "Lose the love" for a game you used to play.

    I'm a launch of gw1 player. I log into gw1 weekly to just goof around and hang out with decade friends. But gw2 flatlined for me. I have 15k hours in the game since launch. Pretty much everything I want in game. Items some will probably never own or have in their inventory. One of these days I'm going to just hop on discord and liquidate my acc and give all my infusions and such away and make 2 OG legendaries to give away also. It went from a grind to the end to grinding just to stay "up to date". But 4 manning raids. Doing or soloing fractals. That and all but 1 of my friends quit. It's... Kinda sad tbh. But I'll always have amazing memories.

    Game burn out is quite real. I learned that when I took playing realm of the mad god too far and that ended up being the only game I played and ended up forcing myself to play and grind it. Ended up burning myself out if it for many years. I'm glad you stopped guild wars 2 when it started feeling like a chore instead of forcing youself to keep playing and burning out extra hard. Thankfully GW2's greatest strength is that you can pick it back up any time without losing progress. It's always good to play a variety of games. As a side note, starting FF14 looks like it's been great for your streams. You've been pulling triple the viewership on your streams now as you were 6 months ago. Nothing wrong with stopping for a bit. I used to play ESO and was always shocked by how much content a few creators I watched put out. You actually inspired me to dip into ff14 again. I also just got WoW and have committed myself to playing dragonflight and the new expansion, trying to learn what makes people like it. I boosted in WoW because they make exposing yourself to old content so hard and the leveling just feels unrewarding. I've committed to doing the entire gw2 story chronologically (almost done with S1, kind of sick of scarlette ngl) and I'm pumped about what's to come. I think I'll probably switch between the 3 mmos to keep them from feeling stale. Whatever content you put out I'll watch. Any interest in Blue Protocol if it ever gets a global release?

    I love GW2 and it consumes a LOT of hours of my life and I’m not even that hardcore of a player.
    Being a content creator seems like a dream job to a lot of people, but I also think not everyone realizes that it is a job, same as any other, and the amount of time and energy it takes to record, edit videos, not to mention entertaining an audience on stream, is a lot. I genuinely don’t know how people like Teapot who basically live, eat and breathe this game still find it to be fun after all that time.
    Also, same sentiment about SOTO. I enjoyed having new maps and content but to me it was the least fun expansion content.
