My tip: take a break when you're bored of it. The best thing about the game is all your progress is still there when you get back, unlike other mmos.

My biggest one I wish I'd known sooner is you can right-click on any chest jiggling over on the side of your screen and it will open and put the contents in your inventory without having to pop-up a screen for you to acknowledge.

Community is no joke, was trying to get the ascended banner from heart of thorns and needed two bounties I was having a hard time with. So I finally just asked. And well, had a whole group of folks come out and help me, and then we all helped some other folks and about 30 mins later we probably got 4-5 people their achievements done.
honestly that has been my biggest mistake. i was used to being a lone eolf lets fo this on our kwn type thing. i really wish i reached out and chatted sooner!

No help is an issue I'm having on an mmo my friend recommended when I said I always wanted to try an mmo. Gonna give GW2 a go now.
Regarding end game content. I was in a raid training, lead by the Crossroads Inn guild. And the dude just said, NO ONE IS TO USE ANYTHING OTHER THAN AUTOATTACK (other than healer ofc). That allowed us to focus ONLY on the encounter mechanics, and I cannot put into words how much that helped understand and face raids. we killed vale guardian with auto attk only, and noone was teleported even once. It showed me how Raids are not a huge monster to learn and face, you just learn the mechanics first, and the dps comes later.
That's actually pretty damn awesome lol!
ah yes Crossroads inn is great, really helps out newbies to get into raiding even if it's a little bit.

New players always use coin to go to town to visit a bank or trading Post. Just do Your PVP lobby tick to visit the bank, trading post and vendor. When done click the crossed swords again and poof. You are back where You were in the Map. As with the deposit all materials. Sell all junk button on the vendor. Gets rid of junk.

My top lesson: use the trading post before selling stuff to a merchant. You can frequently get 2-5times more coin from the trading post than a merchant, and that adds up fast.
Yes. Unwritten rules of loot in GW2:
- blues and greens -> salvage with the cheapest kit or copper-fed
- yellows -> salvage with good kit or silver-fed (increased chance of dropping ectoplasms which sell well)
- oranges -> check on AH to see if it sells well or break with your best kit
Sell all the mats (or bank them if you want to do crafting).
@dahobdahob for exotics, you forgot "see how the upgrade alone sells on the TP." I've often found that using a BL salvage kit is worthwhile because the upgrade is ~90%+ of the intact item and ectos more than make up the difference in price.

@@dahobdahob Best value for the greens is the rune-crafter salvage kit, but you would have to get it, so the kits you proposed would be still the most viable option for most players
Not a tip, but an amazing thing about the community is mfs will be hellbent and traverse the 7 seas to revive you. I also rarely see anyone not say thank you after.

I always tell new players to abuse entering the mists (PvP lobby) early on because it gives them instant access to top merchant and bank as well that they can access anywhere in the world and when they leave it plops them back exactly where they were. Great for those maps that don't have convenient waypoints near your spot.

Going back to the wiki feature, you can type /wiki and shift+click an item into chat to immediately search for that specific item. Saves a bit of time having to type in the name of the item

My advice is this: make yourself a tea/coffee and spend some time in option menu. Features like "disable inventory compact button", "lock ground target", "disable autotarget" or turning off double tap to dodge really help with controling movement and aim. Secondly consider redesigning shortcuts asap so you avoid clicking skills with your mouse. Far to late I discovered that F2 can be moved into alt+2 etc. Sooner you start with that, less bad habits to fix

That is true. I've lost fights with weaker enemies than my character just because I was too dependent on the mouse.
I'm a level 56 engineer, and gods the keybindings one has been so true. Last night I changed my toolbelt skills from function 12345 to control 12345 and it's been SO much nicer to use those skills now.
My tip for new players would be to do the adventure guide, it's worth huge amounts of exp you get for completing each stage. Also save your tombs of knowledge for the last 10-15 levels which can be kinda boring to grind to 80

Another thing to note about Legendary Gear that IDK if anyone else mentioned: Thanks to the Legendary Armory system, all legendaries are account-wide and can be worn by any character with the proficiencies AND don't cost any charges to transmute into a different look. Whereas Ascended and lower you have to invest in them for every alt potentially.

Yeah, but compared to the MASSIVE amount of time, effort, and resources involved in crafting legendary stuff by far exceeds what you'll spend getting ascended gear with the same exact stats...in most cases it's absolutely not worth it for the casual player. The only reason I crafted the legendary gear that I have is merely for the skins and nothing more.
ascended gear is account bound too and you can freely swap it between your characters if the class can use it in general
The main difference between Exotic and Ascended isn't that you can select the stats on Ascended one time... there are many Exotic items that have that same feature, and not all Ascended gear has that feature either... the main difference is that Ascended gear is Account Bound while Exotic gear is Character Bound... so you can freely move your Ascended gear between characters... Legendary gear is the next step up in that you can customize its stats repeatedly and with the Legendary Armory it's easily accessible across your alts.
Another couple fun tips:
1.) You no longer need to feel like you're locked to one social group in this game because you can join up to 5 different guilds and swap which one you're representing with the push of a button!
2.) If you type the phrase "I am Evon Gnashblade" into the Black Lion Trade Post's search bar (not the gem store, the auction menu), you'll condense the items and icons into a much smaller menu, making it easier to search!
3.) Some enemies have a second bar under their health bar and it's blue. It's known as the Defiance Bar or the Break Bar, and it reacts to crowd control (cripple, fear, knockdown, etc.) but it reacts more to stronger effects. For example, the Cripple condition will reduce it slowly, but the Knockdown condition will chunk it pretty hard. If you can reduce the blue bar down to 0, the enemy will (usually) get stunned and take increased damage for a few seconds! This is also an important mechanic in some World Boss fights because it also negates powerful skills from being activated and hindering or even wiping out your team. Check each of your abilities to see if they deal any "Defiance" damage and keep a couple handy to help your team stun powerful monsters!

One of my favorite community moments was in the Iron waste, a bunch of people were just having a random parade.
It felt so fun and just nice to break away from the grind, story, and just general fighting mindset to laugh at the jokes being tossed around as we all just walked in a straight line for no reason other than it was fun.
Imo thats the best reasons for mmos, to come together and just enjoy playing even if it's something silly!
That last one is so important, when you're running through a zone doing some map completion or whatever just pop a "how's everyone's day going" in map chat and I promise you're gonna spark a fun conversation and make your session way more fun.
Honestly the number of people who are interested in talking/chatting in game is astounding and you wouldn't know unless you start a conversation!

There’s no reason to add stress by doing things you don’t want to do, real life has us covered in that aspect. 😌
In character creation, on the part where you customize your character, there are four small icons above the body features tab to toggle the armor on/off, zoom into the head or change to day/night lighting. Very useful for checking out Charr fur patterns, Norn tattoos or Sylvari glow. I've seen SO MANY new players trying out the game and creating their first character without even knowing those exist.

I love the fact that there's much less emphasis on rotation and DPS in GW2. Yes, it's still important, but I was bullied in other MMOs because I failed to produce enough DPS. A leisurely game became stressful. I play after work to relax, not to be stressed. The only thing I don't like about GW2 are the jumping puzzles. I have physical limitations and those are hard for me (yes, even the totally easy ones like Lion's Arch Urmaug's Secret!). One thing I wish I had known sooner is that nobody needs a flying mount in order to get enjoyment out of the game. The springer's my best friend.
I remember the days of getting bullied in wow because of low dps.. it's refreshing to come here where there's less emphasis on it! Well said!
GW2 has such an overwhelmingly friendly community because ANet always made sure their game mechanics foster teamplay and helping each other and there is almost no opportunity for grieving other players unlike some MMOs where even resource nodes disappear [for a while] for everyone else if someone harvested them
The game without a doubt fosters one of the best communities in mmorpgs!

The biggest reason is that there's a chance you get an upgrade to a higher tier if you identify. 0 chance of that if you salvage without doing so. You also tend to get more and higher value materials from identified gear. :)
One note about legendary gear: it has some big advantages over ascended:
1 - you can change stats whenever you're out of combat
2 - you can change its appearance for free whenever you like
3 - and last but not least - in fact its the biggest selling point for me, legendary gear can be used by all max level characters on your account. For someone that enjoys playing with different characters this is pure gold.
As someone whose recently only gotten their first legendary piece of gear, it I'd a fantastic piece of content that only gains value ad you go forward in the game
@Caffeinated Dad Gaming I recommend you get the legendary amulet prismatic champion's regalia ASAP. Its the only legendary that doesn't require clovers or an absurd amount of time to get. Plus it teaches you how achievements work

Things I most wished I'd known sooner when I did figure it out?
1. "Snap Ground Target" can be keybound so whether it snaps to the enemy or not can be changed per cast.
2. Going to WvW Obsidian Sanctum is essentially express access to both your bank and a trading post - and when you leave you get TP:d to exactly where you were before.
3. Searching "I am Evon Gnashblade" in the trading post window toggles the layout between the default and a list that lets you see a lot more at once.

Right click > use all on luck, bags, alcohol, etc. to use all the pile at once, and right click > [select a rarity] on salvage tools to salvage all items of this rarity and below at once. It will save your wrist.
Also, if you put your unidentified gear in a shared inventory lot, you'll only salvage the gear you've identified. This is necessary when you have an entire 250 stack of unidentified gear.

If you a new player, starting your adventure in GW2, I would strongly suggest not to follow the first advice mentioned here. Yes, there is a risk that you make a class you won't like, but the general feel of each class can be get pretty early, plus there are many informational videos on classes on UA-cam. But if you go to PVP zone, get lvl 80 and all skills, you will loose a great sense of discovery - the adrenaline rush when you get a new level, you get access to a new skill and you get to test it for the first time. Plus, you will get overwhelmed with information and a number of tools at your disposal.
Honestly I get your point! Not knowing where everything can go and what they can do is part of the fun of exploration! Enjoy the game by finding out new things!
I would actually say the first suggestion is the one that was the most meaningful to me.
Really depends. I'm a new player and the sense of progression when leveling is just off to me. You get your profession skills very quickly and during regular play everything is so easy that you don't need to bother learning new stuff. To compound this issue, there's always soooo much stuff to do that taking a break to take a look at the unlocked stuff takes a back seat.
First time I used earth form on my elementalist? Level 65 or so. First hero points spent? Probably 40. In essence, the discovery effect isn't really there because it's not like you ever feel you need it.
My gf was streaming on discord and I saw her deposit materials one at a time, after 2000 hours, she did not know about the deposit all button, her reaction when I told her about it was priceless
Lmao like legit I never tried to figure out that button until like a year in
I always get scared to join a LFG, mostly fractal groups, I main a reaper... So what I do is, on the T4 tab, I list my own group with the description: "T4 - Everyone welcome", and 99% of the time the group works out, got more challenges than a perfect group, but everyone so far enjoyed the fractal together. And if you are like me, don't be scared to create your own silly group. I think a lot of players feels like I do, and when I see an everyone welcome group, I immediately feel safe and happy to be there, than a "50KP | qdps and alac" group.
For me, it was checking out achievements when I felt like there was "nothing to do". Now, there's *always* something to do, but sometimes it doesn't feel like it contributes much to your character (even though loot and xp are earned from nearly everything). But, if I need that 'ding!', seeing the list of achievements I'm close to accomplishing usually gives me one or two things that I can mop up pretty easily and get the message popping up that I actually "did something" today.
honestly i dove into the ocean of achievements that you can earn and was astounded. like the shear amount of strange and little achievements are crazy! sometimes when im bored i look around snd see what i can do as well.

As a new player to the game I can honestly say the community has been really helpful with my progression. I currently have 3 lv 80 accounts which were all able to progress thanks for the communities' advice and a lot of WvW lol.

Great video! My number 1 "wish I knew" is probably what you said at the end about the community. When I started playing I exclusively played by myself and that was fun, but there's a whole new world out there when you play with others. I met my guild through LFG in fractals and from them I was introduced to another guild and another, the connections really build fast. It's so much fun to have a small but tight-knit familiar community of people to do fractals or WvW content with. I can't imagine how boring it would be to craft ad infinitum on my own, but working with a fellow guildie made it so much fun. Also, I've had random people help me out on multiple ocassions, the community really is that nice. When I needed help with inventory space when I was starting out, a random generous stranger sent me bags that drastically increased my space. When I bought my griffon I took a loan from a friend and another helpful random stranger helped me pay off the last bits of it, probably around a dozen gold. The community's really kind and generous in WvW and open world and… anywhere but PvP honestly and I always love helping out newbies now that I've been playing as long as I have. The community is great, and I wish I had jumped into it sooner! Btw, really love the vibes from your vids, keep up the great work!

I really need to find people to play with tbh, being in an active guild sounds very appealing but ive made it through the first 10 hours or so of the game without interacting with a single person. Where do i need to look?
@@Llama_charmer anywhere honestly. Throw a "hello all" in /m on whatever map you are on or in major cities. Guilds recruit in major cities and starter zone maps a lot. You can also check the LFG menu under looking for guild.
I've just started to play a week ago and my tip is: green gear is better than blue gear in Guild Wars 2.
Just started playing for the first time and honestly blown away by how friendly the community is - loving it so far!
One point you missed out is that the selling point of ascended gears outside of the agony infuses is basically account bound rather than soulbound (character). Which means you can share that 1 set for all your different classes / characters as long as they utilize that same stats. In the past we had to regrind/craft sets for individual characters and taking up bank spaces, ascended gears were introduce to help with that
Regarding the community : yesterday I was in a starter zone at 9 AM, and a new player asked a question on map chat. He got useful answers from 5 different experimented players within 3 minutes. So yeah, the community is really nice, and you shouldn't be scared to ask questions.
The thing I wished I knew sooner is that you don't need to craft mystic clovers (for legendary), you can get them in PvP or WvW reward tracks.
I was swimming and realized you can dive down and its not just surface swimming. I typed out to the map "omfg I can swim...underwater!" And chat erupted and were welcoming to the game lol
If you buy the game, you get a boost to 80 ticket. You can use that boost as a trial run for every class at lvl 80, with full pve gear in a pve setting. Once your done trying it out you can logout or un-do the boost and move to your next character. The tickets has a two step use for the purpose of trying out character classes.
True! Although I think it's simpler to just jump to the pvp zone!

I've been playing since launch and I just found out last week that if you press the left and right mouse buttons at the same time your character moves forward while you move the camera
listen! looool i hate finding out things like this sooooooo much longer after the fact... lol the ground targeting reticle can be instant and i just found that out
I started my mmo gaming with Everquest back in 2002. That is where I learned the both mouse buttons to move thing.
Turns out it also works in WoW and several other ones.
As a solo player from day one there are many things like the ones you mentioned I wish I would have knew. The wiki is so valuable. Also take the time to watch others videos on classes. There was a lot of unspoken things that are now common when the game started. Like how the PVP and WvW works. gear and things, I recommend learning what each slot on gear does and in what situation it is helpful. Learn the skills and attributes and what they effect. Just because everyone else runs a gear type and play style does not mean it is for you. I have found success in forging your own class play style not just learn the hot meta of the week.
Go through all of the story as fast as you can, just because they lock off parts/chapters in a certain time period. As a slow moving solo player I have been locked off of contain that I did not get to yet. One it will help you in the long run, and once it is open it is always open. The locked parts open up again but it is random and if you are a casual player, you might miss it and then be unable to get a mount you need to progress in the game.
Mounts are not free game content, you will need a paid account for them. Get all the mounts when and as fast as you can, they will help you immensely. Mounts are not needed to play most of the game but some parts it save frustration and time.
As a solo, I can not speak for community, I can say that I have had good and bad experiences in all modes and in and out of guilds. Just make sure your play aligns with the guilds goals or you will not have a good time with them. I find the ones I have been in too clicky and demanding and not very willing to teach. So I stay a solo that is still trying to figure some things out. But then I am not talked to like a child or a dps slave either. Basically find people that play the way you do or not, you will be happier.
1. It's okay to make mistakes; I used to not know Ascended Salvage kits were a thing, and I think I destroyed or sold like three or four trinkets because they didn't have stats I could use and I didn't know of any other way to get rid of them. Do I look back and kind of facepalm about it? Sure. Is it some major setback to my overall progress I can't recover from? Nope.
2. Play as optimally and as efficiently as you want; the fastest way to get burned out in any MMO is to force yourself to play content or grind at a pace you don't enjoy because you're caught up trying make as much progress as possible. Sometimes I'm just really not in the mood for PvP or fractals, and I'd rather put some ASMR on in the background and do map completions with characters I haven't played in a while, or go on fishing marathons, or try for some of the quirkier achievements. That's just as valid a use of my playtime as being on the hunt for BiS gear.
that second point is fantastic and probably undervalued. just exploring the game and enjoing the scenery or doing small achievements can be just as important!

You can get black lion key every week just to level up a character to level 10 and delete it after the level 10 story completion to get the key and farm keys that way

Some achievements give items - everything from titles to ascended equipment to cool skins. If you're looking for a new goal, it can be fun to just open up the achievements panel and browse rewards by hovering over the treasure chest icon. Most achievements won't have this icon because they don't give items, but there are some really cool ones out there.
If you see a commander on a map, you can right-click EITHER on their icon directly on the map or their name in chat to join their party. Commanders can mark their squads private, so if you can join (meaning they haven't done that) they probably want you to.

Difference between exotic and ascended/legendary is actually arround 10%, which isnt huge but noticable difference that can often decide whether you die or not.
True, but in instanced content knowing the mechanics and knowing your build is far more important, than the difference between ascended and exotic. And more often is lack of the first two a problem, then not having ascended gear.

is that true? ive only ever seen the 5% mathmatic brought up. if you are pushing harder content thrn it makes a massive difference to have a bit more stats!
@@CaffeinatedDad it depends what stats you use so for example if you are heal, it almost doesnt matter, difference is still there ofc but chances that your few % higher healing will save group from wipping are low imo. For dps builds the differeence is indeed arround 8-10%, for ascended you can also add infusions that adds some stats. Also weapons adds the most stats, then trinkets then armor, so ascended weapons adds more than ascended armor.
This isn't something I found out about, but more observed. You start off with 2 character slots if you're free trial. Highly recommend 1 of those is a sylvari, it helps with base game story since a character who plays a huge role has almost all of his lore in the personal story (keeping it vague to avoid spoilers).
Gathering tools. If you spend money on anything, unlimited gathering tools.

I'm a new player, and one thing I found that's useful is that if you have the coins, you can buy bag slots from the black lion trading post! Unfortunately I found out about this when I was nearing lvl 45, so before that I was running around with like a 10 slot and an 8 slot alongside the standard starter backpack. The most you can get without upgrading your account is 18 slots! It made managing inventory much easier.

@@myrri0 While PvP is the one place I have found 'grumpy' players it isn't too bad, most players are still pretty helpful. I just block the grumps and move on (their cat probably just pooped in their shoes and they need to vent).
Matches are pretty short (~10 minutes) so if you get stuck with a grump one match they'll be out of your life soon enough. At first you can only play unranked where losses don't matter at all; at some point you can choose to play ranked matches. If someone gets grumpy over unranked matches they really need to figure out why their cat keeps pooping in their shoes; not something you can fix by playing better. Grumps gonna grump.
Your gear doesn't matter at all in PvP as long as you have something equipped, all stats are standardized. You can buy some cheap grey weapons from vendors in the PvP lobby. I got the PvP legendary backpack and I'm pretty bad at PvP. You mostly just have to play a bunch of ranked games as different classes and you'll get it eventually.
A couple tips:
* The game saves which build you last used in different modes. So if you play build #2 in PvP and build #1 in PvE, when you go into a PvP match it will switch you to build #2 automatically. You can check your PvP build in the PvP lobby. There is a ready check at the beginning of each match; check your build quick before clicking ready because you can't change it after the match starts.
* You can join a PvP match from anywhere, you don't have to be in the PvP lobby. Jump in the queue while doing world completion and after a few minutes you can join a match. Just be aware that if you change zones/maps you will be removed from the queue and have to rejoin. You can leave the queue anytime before it pops up without penalty. If you leave after it pops or mid-match there is a very minor penalty that prevents you from rejoining the PvP queue for a bit but has no effect on any other game play.
* You can use /t to message your team or /m to message all players on the map, including the other team.
TLDR: PvP isn't that scary, gear doesn't matter, and you can earn some easy legendary gear.
You can get 18 slot bag for 1 gold in wvw 😭
Another tip : Don't be frustrated if you get no money from events. Most of Gw2 loot is not money but materials that is in your material deposit. So not a lot of raw gold but a lot of mats and the higher the Tier the more money you get.

Using the PVP lobby to go to the Bank, Trading Post and Merchant. Then exit it and You are back where you were. Yes, WvW You can do this also. But harder to find them.

Even with the fractals starting out you don’t need to worry too much about the agony infusions. I was in a group the other day and I was the only one without any agony resistance. Understandably so, they were tempted to kick me but gave me a chance and in the end they all wiped and I had to finish the boss for the others. Really, as long as you’re comfortable with the combat system in the game, you can go a long way just with that.
Oh absolutely! It makes a difference especially in the latter levels but early on? Not as important!
Fully geared and fully buffed level 80 characters who know their rotation can do up to 10x the damage of a brand new level 80. That’s not a miss-type.
If you are interested in learning raids or T4 Fractals, it’s worth your time to research known builds and practice the rotation. You don’t have to play perfectly. But, putting in the effort can make a drastic difference in your damage output.
Also, if you don’t want to download 3rd party tools to check your damage per second (DPS), there is an instance that’s connected to Lion’s Arch and / or the LA Aerodome which has a practice Golem which will tell you your damage output.
great addon! i suppose tgat is something that many people either have to figure out on their own or ask because honestly i didnt know about the aerodome until much later in my playtime.

One of the pros of guild wars is since there's no constant power creep you can step away as long as you like, started 8 years ago and I've pretty much taken two year long breaks. Made me lose some of my tp flips but oh well

Ascended stats are not expensive to change, especially if you're at the stage where stat changing is important. It's just the inscription, 5 ectos and items using spirit shards

Back when raids were the things, people hated me for having exotics. funny thing i was usually the last one standing, because being in exotic made me worry about being good enough, and all the ascended/leggies just standed there and died lol.
My tip after 5 years here just found out about Blish hud. This addon will help you alot. Been on pvp and wvw just started pve and saw a video on that addon and now i have direction for pve especially for world completion achievement.
Blish is a very popular addon that alot of people recommend usage. It seems to do many things well!

(( note: i'm a GW2 vet, so i knew all this, but really great video and thanks furr getting this out there )) yes, I actively tell others about the /wiki command in game, it is a really great tool, the other thing I think is important, especially to new players coming from other MMOs, and goes along with the Deposit All Materials button, is to use gathering nodes you see from the very start, don't have to use the materials anytime soon, but having a stockpile built up from just playing the game is really nice to have
Exactly! After 80 levels and grabbing wvery node you can it makes alot of endgame collections easier!
My stupid little tip: If you are nearly anywhere in the open world you can have quick access to the Trading Post, Bank, store and free trip to Lions Arch by Going to Obsidian Sanctum in World vs. World. You can then go right back to where you came from by opening World vs. World again and clicking the return button in the lower right corner of the window.

I made a really nice friend just by getting a whisper little while ago as a level 10-20 something engineer AFK in Rata Sum. I'm level 56 now after playing an 8 hour binge of the game last night with that same friend.

When I first reached L80 in GW2 (about 4 or 5 years ago) I got super lost.
I didn't have Living World (S1 wasn't free yet) and I wanted to do Heart of Thorns but it was kicking my ass. I spent some time in dungeons farming tokens for gear but I bounced off the game super hard. I'm coming back to the game now but I wanted to start a new character and vibe with the early game again.
It's interesting coming back with a fresh perspective to be sure! Especially after so long!
Honestly, exotics were the top end gear since they were designed for raids from the start. Fractals came later, hence the need for ascended/legendary. Best tip for all, take your time and enjoy the game.
Took me awhile to know that there's a "copy" function for your weapons so, you only need to craft 1 instead of 2.

Getting the AUTO LOOT MASTERY. Up to this day i see people running to Tequal and other world boss final Chest. I know some boss like The one found in Tangle Depts dont auto loot due to Proximity but 99% of all loot is auto pick up.

The thing that i wish i knew sooner was that when ur doing an event, regardless of in open world or instanced content, if ur fighting a boss, u can click on the hp bar on the top right corner of your screen to instantly focus on the boss. Well the only time that is truly very useful is the twilight oasis fractal, but still :D

Bonus tip for the /wiki command: it is WAY more powerful than it seems! Type /wiki then a space then type whatever you want and it will open the page for that thing. Don't know how to get to a jump quest? Type the name in the command bar. Better yet, /wiki then shift click an item in your inventory and it opens the wiki page for that item! Don't know what this trophy you got is for and scared to throw it away? /wiki [shift click the item] and find out! You can shift click so many other things, too. Inspecting someone's gear or looking at a skin in the bank? Shift click it and check out the wiki to find out how to get that epic item. Want more details on a skill? Shift click that skill. Shift click anything to link it in chat. You can also do this without the /wiki command to reference something in chat that others can see, so you can ask someone about something... or so you can link a waypoint to people. "There's an event I need help with! [waypoint link]" in map chat will be very helpful! (yes, you can shift click the waypoint on the map, and it will close the map and have it sitting in chat ready for you to finish your message and press enter!) The chat commands in the game are very powerful and I recommend everyone use them.

The biggest thing I wish I knew earlier was that you could right click on event/achievement reward chests to automatically open AND accept the contents.
Quick access to Bank, Lion's Trader, Merchant/Vendor and Lion's Arch: by pressing WvW and choosing the option to teleport to 'Obsidian Sanctum'.

Just found out about "action camera" yesterday. That thing is a near God sent as I went through lvl 1-34 on a thief trying to coordinate hitting attack # keys and using the mouse to keep the camera focus in a battle.
Wish I knew what to sell or destroy sooner, keeping a spoon "trophy" cause I did not know if I would need it for something later or countless other useless stuff lol

The game in PvE actively rewards cooperation. Most obvious in metas maps with participation bonuses.

This is exactly what I was doing as a new player. I made three characters in different classes to max out to LV 80, one just completed tow others LV 40s, just to wait and see how the different elite specializations will work for me. That was my dumb ass plan, level up many characters before choosing an ES. I thought there was no way I can do a trial. Man! You saved me some time.

Biggest tip: Try a variety of classes. The pvp lobby is great, but after that pick a variety and play them open world. Know that there are very different build and playstyles at endgame, but trying them at base game will still give you valuable feedback.
Caveat to the tip: If you've recently tried out a toon and decide to delete them to use that slot to try another class, that's fine at the beginning. But once a toon starts closing in on a year old, I would encourage you to refrain from deleting toons, as the toon birthday rewards start getting better and better. Instead of deleting, bite the bullet, spend irl money on another character slot. Hate appearance? use a make over kit. Hate class? Use the toon as a bank extension "mule". (a new toon is technically cheaper storage per unit than another bank tab.) It benefits your account to roll as many toons as you can on day 1 and stick with them. And honestly? Every account benefits from an Engi, mesmer and guard, even if you don't end up maining any of those, so you might as well roll them now.

@@CaffeinatedDad What you said about classes being a "lens" is spot on. I started the game not long after launch, tried warrior and got bored. Walked away. Only wanderlust at another MMO brought me back a couple years later. (I missed season 1) And even though it's pleb as heck, trying minionmancer gave me a totally different vantage and experience. And even though I don't minionmancer (out of principal) it was what I needed to level my first toon and properly appreciate gw2. Excuse my verbosity. Cheers.

Currently I have 20+ Shared Storage Slots in my account inventory and I use these for items like Royal Terrace Pass(Divinity's Reach), Invitation to Lily of Elon (Crystal Oasis), Season 3 Portal Tome, Season 4 Portal Tome, Icebrood Saga Portal Tome (probably the most useful if you build up the Eye of the North outpost), Arborstone Portal Scroll, and Wizard's Tower Portal Scroll. I use these to travel at no charge (per use) and it's more convenient because I don't have to scan the world map for my intended destination

The static raid then transitions into working on legendary gear as well!
Started exactly like this with reaper of all things back in June 2022 (used to play GW2 pre HoT since 2012), fast forward to Feb 2023, 11/18 (so, almost two sets) of Legendary Armor, Xuiquatl, Astralaria, Aurora, Prismatic Champion Amulet - done, Ad Infinitum and Vision and Coalescence - waiting for funds, LI and clover to be processed into legendary, Aurene Greatsword in plans.

I am the solo, casual player who wants to experience the wold and the long term character progression.
I've tried WoW which is very much NOT my kind of game, before GW2 I've tried ESO and I like it, but there are some issues like the missing AH, the crafting bag, the very easy combat, as well as the cheesy storyline. In my case, playing it on PS4 costs me PSplus in addition, so I don't play it all the time.
Then I gave Guild Wars 2 another try and it took some time to get over the missing quests like in other games especially coming from ESO (even side quests are very well made, but still other players run around in them which kills the immersion).
In the end I appreciate the storyline, the world, the dynamic combat system, the huge value you get for only buying it once without any ugly forcing to buy ingame stuff.
The horizontal progression, so that it respects your time so much and the fact that I've even already found a guild.
It's the first MMO where I ever made it to max level, so I'm very excited to get into mid- and endgame.
At the moment I'm playing PoF to get the mounts and I figured out that there are some of the most valuable resources to gather, so I am very happy actually 😊.
Oh, here's another really good noobie tip: If you don't want to lose the spot your in, but you need to bank, just go to your WvW tab, port in to ANY area to use the bank or TP, once your done leave WvW and your right back where you were!
