This song is important, very important as this was when the tradition motown sound began to break into another genre. This music was for the children of the "motown era" parents. The whole funkadelic mixed with jimi hendrix style held hands. This is fantastic

    • @Ston247
      @Ston247 2 роки тому +39

Yes. But it was not popular at the time. We could not say the word "Funk" in public because it was considered vulgar. The record companies didn't take them seriously and the Motown musicians would dress-down to attend their underground shows. George Clinton reformed Parliament in '74 so he could sell records. Most of the black community still didn't know who Funkadelic was until One Nation (1978).

When I first heard the song I fell slave to the beat and arrangement but when I heard the song over and over I learned it was about illicit acts in the ghetto which begged for forgiveness; particularly from the one transgressing. Psychedelic richness converted from tough and rough beginnings.

Ron was an incredible player. I was saddened to learn that he passed away only a couple of years ago. It’s a joyous song but it also makes me sad looking at that clip to know a few of those awesome dudes are no longer with us. Eddie Hazel, Bernie Worrell, Gary Shider, Cordell Mosson, Ron Bykowski. All huge talents. RIP.

All I can say is Wow! Never knew this video existed. What an amazing time capsule. 1973 and the world had no idea what these guys were about to unleash on all of our collective eardrums for about the next decade. I was a teenager in the 70's and Parliament/Funkadelic was the absolute shiznit back in the day. It was Parliament/Funkadelic, EWF and then everybody else, which is saying a lot because anybody that lived through it knows that there were some absolute monster Funk bands around in the 70's. Thanks for posting!

    Ah hear my mother call
I'm one of five born to my mother
An older sister and three young brothers
We've seen it hard, we've seen it kind of rough
But always with a smile, she was sure to try to hide
The fact from us that life was really tough
I can hear my mother call
I can hear my mother call
Late at night I hear her call
Oh lord, lord I hear her call
She said, "Father, father it's for the kids
Any and every thing I did
Please, please don't judge me too strong
Lord knows I meant no wrong
Lord knows I meant no wrong"
    Then the devil sang
"Would you like to dance with me? We're doin' the cosmic slop"
She was well known through the ghetto
Tricks would come and then they'd go
The neighbors would talk and call her Jezebel
But always with a smile, she was sure to try to hide
The fact from us that she was catching hell, hey!
    Hear my mother call
I can hear my mother call
Late at night I hear her call
Oh lord, lord I hear her call
She says, "Father, father it's for the kids

@@yommish They were common. There is just a bunch of misinformation about them not being as such back then. They might not have had great production value but quite a bit was done to promote pop music.

@@alexkx8599 reading the Wikipedia article on music videos, yes the concept has been around as long as film and audio tape existed, but videos like this were not very common until the 80s when they exploded…from my understanding. Alright it’s not “visionary” but it’s cool and somewhat ahead of its time, albeit not groundbreaking. Still I’d like to see another funk band with a music video like this out in 1973
