"No Escape from Death" SPECIAL EDITION!
    First aired 19 February, 1967
Got an HDTV that has 4K resolution or higher and can display HDR video? Maybe you got one for Christmas. If so, this episode is especially for you!
Already one of the most clean and clear Voyage episodes, "No Escape from Death" has been enhanced for extended Quad HD clarity and resolution with HDR (High Dynamic Range) to make colors and scenes even more eye-popping than ever before. It is the ultimate video experience for anyone, and especially for Voyage fans!
"No Escape from Death" features several clips from previous episodes in seasons one and two. See if you can identify them all! And thanks to Irwin Allen and 20th Century Fox, some of the scenes appear in color for the first time ever! (Those scenes are subject to copyright, meaning there may be commercial interruptions during this episode.)
This episode is a recording from a recent HDTV broadcast of a newly transferred and restored film. The episode has been shortened by the rights holder to the current standard length for one-hour episodes through the use of cuts and increased frame rate. I should point out to everyone that is younger than me that this show was filmed at the height of the cold war, this episode is a good example of the silent fear a lot of people felt.

I loved this show from the day it first aired when I was a kid. They were so creative with the way they did special effects... no CGI, just models and sets and fireworks and people off set spraying water -- with the actors carrying it all the way through.

This was the first episode I saw. It got me hooked on the series even though I was still a child. It was probably the most expensive episode to produce. The hellish scene inside the wrecked Seaview reminded me of "The Poseidon Adventure," which Allen would later produce.

That s Paul Carr who was Clark in several first season shows. He was written out during the Leslie Neilsen episode The Creature (3.65). He did return as troubled sailor Benson for one season 2 tale. In this episode , largely assembled from stock footage (Voyage went through the allotted budget FAST this season) "Clark" gets tinted footage for a season one experience brought out of the vault. Much of the tinted "disaster footage" came from season 1's "Submarine Sunk Here" which was packed with guest stars. You may have guessed that the innards of the jellyfish came from stock footage taken from the season 2 opener "Jonah and the Whale."

@@LeonZetekoffYes. Season 3's style is much different from season 1 here. In a way it can't be helped because of the color factor; editorially, the emphasis is on non stop (by comparison) action mixed with much stock footage. Season 3's earlier Deadly Waters has more weight but the faster paced color action gravitas of year 3 moves beyond the monochromatic art of the more "considerate" Submarine Sunk Here (yr 1). In this episode, you're in the waning days of the budget strapped second half of Season 3, which has the heavy job of keeping ever younger audiences from Lassie and Walt Disney, both ratings leaders.

I'll look in on that. Season 3 had a budget cut and crew wasn't as plentiful as before. Much of the spending is found in the first half of this season. Seems that "Fossil Men," "The Mummy", and my favorite Voyage "cartoon", "Doomsday Island", had some extra money to spend with more colorful creatures and sets.

Maria -- a belated answer of sorts to your Q? about "missing crew" (No Escape from Death commentary). If you can find these, the late Starlog magazine thankfully ran frequent articles on Voyage and its Irwin Allen stablemates. These included some wonderful background information on the requirements regarding the production of the show. Though some have figured Starlog to be snarky regarding non-Trek shows, I've generally found Starlog articles to be pretty generous. You might find them on line if Starlog is still offering this. A British journal, Infinity, has good presentations but their 3 part Voyage series was full of snark. I'll also recommend the two volume set on VBS by Marc Cushman, which offers much behind the scenes production information but sometimes leaves you needing more. I just haven't budgeted in a seemingly great book called Seaview A 40th Anniversary because Amazon doubled the high price and no one else seems to have it. There's a promise of more data here but I can't confirm that.
      Best, The Admiral.
