Didn't Star Trek Deep Space Nine show a solarship first? It did. The episode "Explorers" introduced the Bayoran lightship on May 8, 1995. 7 years before Star Wars Episode 2.😊
Rare I get to catch your videos within minutes of them launching. Have barely started this but I am just going to go ahead and say yes to this kind of content from you. :)
X4 has many anazing looking ships. I personally love the Nemesis design. But frankly, my personal ship and the one i i wish Egosoft made into an op ship is the terran Jian, this ship is amazing to look from the cockpit and see the turrets doing it's job is awesome.
The Gradius fighter is one of my faves. The recessed cockpit and split fuselage are just cool to me. Probably why I like the Mamba from Elite Dangerous too, though I still say that one should've been a small ship so they could make it a REAL hot rod.
5: The Embryon (G-Darius) (while still technically a spaceship, this WMD is one heck of a final boss to fight against. and for a game of the late 90's it is still amazing to see to this day) 4: Vic Viper (Gradius) (Sleek, agile and armed to the teeth with a ton of weapons) 3: Naboo N-1 class Starfighter (Star Wars) (Simple, sleek and to the point) 2: R-352 Sepia (Ace Combat 3) (extremely well designed to be a space fighter, and that design is peak Neucom imo) 1: Imperial Cutter (Elite Dangerous) (It has to be. that spaceship is trully gorgeous to look at.)
The Sovereign from Star Trek is one of my favourite. The Angelwing from Nexus: Jupiter Incident is very unique. Many ships from Elite Dangerous; the Corvette, the Cutter to name a few.
My personal favorite is a bit unusual, but it's the R-type fighters designs from the game series of the same name. There's something really nice about this long clean cockpit of R-9a, sinister looking lights underneath it, it's main shape is very blocky and it has proper looking rocket engines making it look like a compact spaceship, but it's still a fighter thanks to that cockpit and control surfaces pertruding from many places. And they made a little over 100 fighters, nearly all distinctive enough, looking like evolution from one another and containing the same style including ones that transform into mecha (only exceptions are BYDO ships which are biological looking and stride off of this style). Ps.: And I'm quite surprised that no game, movie, just no one did anything similar to those R-9 series fighters. Their look is very unique.
Totally agree on the number 1 Also, playing SoaSE 2, i always loved the look of the Vorastra titan in either games, and a lot of Vasari designs in general
I don’t care if it doesn’t make sense, I’ve always loved the outlandish alien type ships in every game. Star Citizen’s only ship that interests me is the Aopoa Khartu-Al, and it’s the best example. Strange design, alien cockpit, odd movements from some of the parts, extremely high maneuverability
The Sandhawk from Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, and "The Beast" frigate from Void Destroyer 2. I also love the military Corvettes from the Independence war games.
If Elite Dangerous actually added the much desired ship interiors, and allowed one to actually experience that "Armstrong moment", their ships may have fared better. ... Still, they did make the list, so that's something.
The B-Wing - Star Wars ❤ The Jupiter class - Star Trek Online ❤ The Reliant - Star Citizen ❤ The explorer ship with only one long wing - No man's sky ❤ My own ship - Starfield ❤❤❤❤
I'm a bit sad you didn't include any of the Starlancer ship designs. For an old game I had an amazing time with it, and those Black Guard fighters were fairly intimidating the first time I saw them. I know it's a fairly schlocky cold war in space type game, but the capital ships in particular, and how many fights you had around them were brilliant fun. The Yamato looked great, as did a lot of the Coalition designs. Still one of my all time favourite space fighter games.
I'm given flashbacks to battles I was forced to fight in the Cobra Mark 2 to advance to the Cutter, sadly since obtaining the Cutter the only goal has been obtaining credits. I can't deny the Cutter has made me a rich commander, only time will tell if FDEV can create a better ship.
Freelancer: Patriot (even tho Kusari ships were pretty unique as well) Starlancer: Patriot (others were nice as well, but Patriot here was one of the early ships that punched way up)x X3: Mammoth (just the design, epic!), Vidar as well X4: Syn (just compact mean looking warmashine), but hydra regar is second place for sure... asgard in 3rd due to the sheer size and details Best ship ever, sure, Normandy SR-2, would have loved to see the ship retrofit to alliance vessel completed!
You could milk this more. Best looking ships from films, best looking ships from TV series, best looking ships from books, best looking ships from artwork (all 10 spots going to Chris Foss of course!).
First :D While I couldn't care less about the Top 10 through 5, I totally agree with the Top 4 and even the Normandy being on top. Edit #632: Loved the Star Citizen rant at the end. 😁
Does Privateer count as Wing Commander? It´s a spin-off after all. I just LOVE the Heretic from Privateer 2. In the X series, my personal favorite opticswise, is the Pirate version of the Buster, but X generally has a LOT for great looking ships. Freespace has a whole bunch of nice ships, my personal favorite is the GTF Ulysses, the color aside, it almost looks like Batman got himself a starfighter.
I wonder if the Guardian Fighters from Elite Dangerous would be classified as Yamiks as spaceships for this? I mean the Guardian Fighters from Elite Dangerous are very pretty looking, even if they aren't very useful. I use one in my exploration anaconda just for taking screen captures in space in front of it because it's much prettier than the Anaconda.

What you've said about the Normandy being the only boardable ship in the list is not true. The Hydra is boardable and has an interior -- a gorgeous interior, even.
i would probably have added a few of the EVE ships, haven't played EVE in I don't know how long but can still spot the Dominos or whatever it was called out of any group of ships
I will argue that Subverse Mary Celest is a decient design. I"m well aware that it gets nearly no shine in it's own game... for obvious reasons, but as a Scifi Spaceship. It looks like an astro or non-atmo ship
Eagle Mk.I I personally like better than the Mk.II. But agree. Love the Arwing. I really like the New Python Mk.II is pretty. Reminds me of a White Star from Babylon 5. cutter looks like an Airbus in Space. So a Space bus. Normandy!!!
You know Yamix, I will fight you on the Imperial Cutter design! Although I agree that some of it's main features are looking amazing, there are some elements of the ship which simply makes me wonder "ohh God, what did the designer smoke to uglify the ship like this"? One example is the front section of the ship around the cockpit area, especially those side fins which for me ruins the model of a great ship, but also it's proportions and shape - it simply does not look well for me. I would personally go for the Imperial Clipper on design as a better looking ship, since it seems to be more sleek and have better proportions overall (at least acording to my taste in design). And, even if it's very simple yet also sleek and looks pretty functional, I would also go for Python as a great looking ship from the "simple shape designs" catalogue Elite has. It has a "stealth ship" vibe where nothing useless is present on it's fuselage and I like how the maneuvering thrusters are popping out on it's general layout, almost giving you the impression that you could really fly this ship in space in real life. And - for a special mention which will always hold a special place in my heart - the rugged looks of the Diamondback Explorer! Yes, it has exposed cables and a cockpit looking like it's made of industrial metal, but for me, it's a ship that looks like it was designed for a mission and will do it without failure.
My favorite starship of all time is absolutely the Enterprise from the TOS movies. I love the 20 minutes of ship porn in “The Motion Picture”. Video games, Normandy is definitely up there. I prefer the ME2/3 version personally. Anything from Gutamaya is gorgeous. I own 3 Cutters for a reason lol. For sheer badass factor, WH40k Imperial Navy just blows everything out of the water.
I may have been the only Eve Online player who really loved the Blackbird. Not the horrible redesign, the original, back when Caldari ships were asymmetrical as they should be. It's also clear that we have completely different tastes in ships, because I don't like any of your picks even a little bit.
I don't really like the ED ships but the Imperial Cutter is one of my least favourite designs, i'm glad the Normandy got number one, that one IS one of the best looking ships ever.
Seeing Elite Dangerous and then thinking "It would be nice to play it again", only to remember that it's essentially just a "Stupid grind, nothing to do, idiotic monetization" -game at this point. I wish they'd just shutter it and release the code so 3rd parties could build something better from the ashes.
Grind got vastly improved in the last patch (eg you can fill a G5 material with one single HGE). I think the "monetisation" is fairly reasonable so far but agree it could be a slippery slope. The "nothing to do" is a personal thing. After 2500hours my list of things to do is still extensive and frankly where else would I get my spaceflight fix from anyway?
This is also just a matter of choice how you play it. If you choose to grind, you will grind. If you choose to have fun, it will give you fun. Yea sure the grind is neccsessary to some degree (altought the last patch heavily easen on that), you should grind so many as you can handle. For example if you like the ships and how they fight, then make a fighter ship with minimal grind, and just fight with your ships in RES, then do it again tomorrow. And only grind if you feel like it. Most people just start with grind, end with grind then they have a surpised picachu face that they burnout.
2 ships from X series, Alpha Citizen mention, but not a single EVE online ship in honorable mentions? The game is Excel-mmo, but ships here are gorgeous. I am personally more into large ships and Avatar is my favorite in terms of looks. But since most ships in this list are small, maybe you would like something like good old Tristan?
That Imperial Cutter took me some hours of opportunistic exploiting of poor mission design to grind the cash for. Loved the ship, though mine is still drifting in deep space after I abandoned the game (like everyone else)... I just wish that Frontier had made a "proper" Imperial Courier, rather than the dull thing we actually got.

Too bad the odyssey update with the "improved" renderer made my white ships, gray, and my orange ships brown. Now it literally looks like shit.
Good call on including Halo designs at least in honorable section. I'd like to add Eve's Apocalypse and Typhoon battleships to honorable mentions. The former had stuck heavily in between of style and practicality, but it delivers the message it was created for perfectly, something along the lines of "resistance is futile, heretics will burn"; meanwhile the latter was a brainchild of urgent necessity, designed to be build "here and now" from what people had at time to counteract the former, and coupled with missile armaments, it looks like something real humans may build one day, given that we survive for few more centuries.
