You two are a delight to watch and so very welcome in England. Never heard anyone get excited over a Ford Puma before!
wrg
Such a nice journey. And both of you are so positive all the time that makes it a true pleasure watching the videos. Many people abroad only find the bad things and nag about that. Not you and I so appreciate it. I think I will be equally amazed when I will come to the US and drive around there. It's so different from Europe I think, and that's the charm of new places in another continent. Brilliant to follow you.
The reason for the yellow and white plate is so that people can determine if the car is going away from them or coming towards them, by which time it would probably be too late if it was. No idea who came up with the idea but in all honesty it has actually come in handy a few times on dark roads.
And this color scheme has been around for decades, long before speed camera was a thing.
Welcome to my home county of Dorset - you are officially “ Grockles” which is name we give to holiday visitors to Dorset. Should have driven through Poundbury just west of Dorchester, off the A35 an experimental urban development endorsed and supported by King Charles 111 when he was the Prince of Wales, from land owned by the Duchy of Cornwall.
Having watched all your US road trips it was nice to see you coping with Dorset’s B roads - I drive a Tesla M3 and Skoda Enyaq (VW ID4) around them and still have the occasional passing issue even after 40 years, so you did well. Just remember the left side is the right side for driving😂
@@dorsetandy3873 It can't be the left side of the road the right side of driving. Left means left, right means right. I believe you should rather write the way most Brits say: right side of the road is the right way to drive (Americas, continental Europe, Eurasia, East, Central Asia, North, Central, West Africa) while left side is the correct side to drive for the rest of the world (British islands, South Asia, South East Asia, Japan, Caribbeans, Australia, Oceania, South and East Africa).
Thank you for sharing this. Love it! BYD is an EV futuristic car. Greetings from London 🙏🥰🙏
Lovely video. I could watch Dave drive round roundabouts all day. Glad you enjoyed your brief visit to the UK and I’m glad it didn’t rain the entire time 😊
Roundabouts sphing clinch every time :)
When I we lived in Pawling New York we would cut through and take gravel roads to Danbury Connecticut to go to Costco to do a shopping but they are not as narrow as UK country lanes.
Loving the video making me a little bit homesick👍👍👍
Thanks for letting us come with you on your trips, watching you from Heathrow over your three films. Interesting watching you drive and talk about England and your experience of the BYD. Thanks Bob Blood. From Kent England.😊
Great music
Lovely to see that you liked the U.K, You should come back to see more of our beautiful country, you would love the Cotswolds for the beautiful buildings, New Forest for walking with wild pony’s and The Lake District for the spectacular scenery. Great videos, keep up the good work!
License plates are different colors so others can differentiate if they are looking at the front or rear of your vehicle
Weird!
As if it wasn't obvious already!
As Brits who now live in GA and actually were back visiting in the UK at the exact same time as you, this was a highly enjoyable watch! We couldn’t stop laughing. Roads are incredibly narrow, we always say “breathe in” when a car is coming in the opposite direction on this single track roads 😂
Glad you enjoyed England! 🇬🇧
One day we'll get to visit the UK and be able to drive around. We were there in April but never had the pleasure to experience the roads. But, we did drive all over Ireland a few years ago. OMG, those narrow roads. Wow. How I'd love to take our 2024 Prime on those car-paths. Jesus, Mary and Joseph. What a spot.................
ha ha i tell my grandkids that !
Just found your videos, love your content welcome to the UK👍
I met someone who born in USA and as he came to England for vacation he never went back to the US, he was living in Southampton and said he finds himself at home in England ever since the beginning and he never wants to leave, I've been living in Guyana and Germany but visiting and working in England is always home for me., happy vacation
Good to see you both in England
Our Westcountry lanes, which are generally narrower and with taller hedges than the rest of Britain, were originally laid out by the local needs, herding animals, enclosing properties/establishing boundaries , connecting villages somewhere between 12,000 (first recorded human footprint on a track in England) and 1000 years (most villages existed by this point) ago rather than as planned roads. Although there is some evidence of enhancing tracks (mainly following ridgeways) in waterlogged places from 5800 years ago, it wasn’t really until the romans arrived that engineered roads started to appear around 2000 years ago, the old A30 and parts of the A35 in this video were originally Roman roads.
Love this context
Come back soon! What a fabulous adventure! x
Thanks for the video. Enjoyed seeing you negotiate our roads 😊
Remember if you drive on the right side of the road, then you'll be sitting on the wrong side of the car. There's always a left (wrong) and a right when we talk about this subject.
Great Video guys, I am really enjoying coming on your road trips with you and so ooking forward to watching many more.
Right hand driving made sense when you had to defend against stagecoach robbers by sword as most people are right handed and can hang out that side to swing around.
Oddly enough, the folks in the UK never budged to accept historical proposal of folks from Ireland to switch the side of the road as did Swedish folks in 1967. That would have all Europe on the same page.
We had a bucket list visit to Ireland a few years ago. Four us us on a "tear". All of we have Irish roots. I was nervous about driving on the left before arriving. Very nervous. But, I was so surprised how easy it turned out to be.
Such a beautiful place. We want to get to the UK next. Hummmm.........
Brilliant, nice to see you commenting on the Dorchester McDonalds, it’s always super busy and has a tiny car park! Just along from there is the 2500 year old Maiden Castle hill fort. 😊 Puddletown is on the river Piddle, and many other villages on the river are “Piddle…” but no Piddle near Poundbury. King Charles would not approve.
The 90 degree tree overhang is to make space for double decker buses and HGV (semi) trucks
Those with the strange overhead angles are basically cut / maintained by trucks passing through them. Unfortunately because of the financial mess the country is in, many local councils just don't have the money to maintain the hedges in a lot of those narrow country roads! A good practice is to take note of the passing spaces, so that you have an idea of how far back your nearest one is!
Another very enjoyable video. Thank you again. I believe the yellow license plate on rear was introduced in the 70’s under Margaret Thatcher to reduce headlight reflective glare from following vehicles. France have a similar system.
Been waiting for the return trip for Race to Vegas to come out tonight but Dave has at least pulled through 💪
Love seeing you in England
I watch you from England
Enjoy your trip
What a great tour , well done guys.
you can turn off the nagging and driver aids but due to eu regs ,it resets every time to on when you turn car on on the licence plates ...
By making the front number plate white, and the rear plate yellow, other drivers can quickly assess at a glance if they're looking at the front or rear of a vehicle. This in turn allows drivers on the road to weigh up the likelihood that a vehicle is either moving away from them, or coming towards them
Wonderful to watch ! Thanks a lot.👍👍
If you find trees overhanging and meeting it’s called a fairy tunnel. Many of the trees get shaped by trucks and double decker buses.
Nice to see different parts of the country and countries. Thx.
Tomorrow I'm going for a Sunday drive. Two days of overnight charging this week thou but my juice is still cheaper than retail. Spring is coming and so is the Seal.
You are never at the Sainsbury, only ever at Sainsburys, plural and possessive! 😂
I love being in multiple places at the same time
About 12 minutes in I kept trying to scrape the spot off of my computer screen realizing it was bug remains or the like on your windshield! Great video as usual!! We passed Bridport, VT three weeks ago thinking someone forgot the 'g' back in the day naming the place until I saw Bridport ,England on the map you showed. They did copy all of our town names in New England !😃 ;-)
Sorry ‘bout the bug. Shot in true OOS Style except for the lack of rain
@@outofspecdave1554 no problem 😊 looks like my MY windshield most days!!
It was mainly settlers taking the names of the places they lived in with them to the new world
@@stephenwensley9328 Oh I know 🙂 ~particularly as a native New Englander. I was making fun of and referencing Dave's saying they copied us in his previous video.
In Seattle, Wa it stays light until 11pm!!. I can remember playing basketball that late and being able to see....
9pm
nice, video Dave, nice of you guys visiting my Hometown Southampton, but if you have time drive along the Solant, to Gosport, visit all the navy museums and the museum with the Hovercraft Princess Anne, and go by foot to Portsmouth Spinikertower with the Gosport ferry, and visit some taverns and pubs in Portsmouth, happy Holiday in England
That was good fun 👍
Your actually driving on the right side of the road.
In the UK, we drive on the left which is right side. Not the right side which is the wrong side
Yellow and black number plates pre-dates speed cameras. But the reason why these colours are used in airports, is this combination is very easy to read.
Dave and Kathy, You should do more travel videos. Ted from Canada.
Puddle Town is very famous for being on the Piddle. A good place for a Rest Stop.🤣
Tell us about your Hertz rental from Heathrow to Southampton. We are sailing transatlantic in September 2024.
Was a good experience The team in Southampton are awesome Heathrow is just huge; you know the drill; a bigger less personal machine, but it’s a clean efficient process
Hi
Wondering if your related to the guy ( Kyle) who runs the out of spec channel on UA-cam.
Hope you enjoyed the U.K.
I can see why US automakers are afraid of BYD selling in the USA.
Because heavily subsidized by the chinese goverment, all of the materials are local made… there are no way us automaker can make cheaper products with same quality.. just compare human productivity and labor costs. us are way too much expensive….
Autopilot or FSD would help when driving on the wrong side of the road. Glad you had a wonderful trip. We went to Vegas for the 4th. Then could not fly home to Houston due to the Hurricane. Interesting times. Heat wave in Vegas vs Hurricane in Houston. Six days in Vegas. $$$
We've had white and yellow plates since the sixties, a long time before speed cameras were invented!
Exeter, New Hampshire looks very different. Most New England US cities are named after ones in UK. Two of my favorites are Framingham and Sudbury.
Be sure to come back later this year for the launch of the Ford Puma EV!
The screen in portrait is good for the camera as it gives you 3 split screens instead of 2.
This is absolutely typical of a British sat. nav. /GPS route. To take you the most direct, as the crow flies, route, as opposed to an easier, bit longer road that is faster and wider.
Knights/soldiers in Europe were mostly right-handed so the sword and lance would be in their right hands when jousting or sword-fighting. This might have carried over to electing to drive on the left side of the road because the enemy would be coming from your right side.
Nice video. My 2008 Ford Mondeo had a really strong torque steer. Had to hold tight the steering wheel when accelerating. You should do a summer trip in electric car heaven - Norway - in the summer and it is sun all day.
Love your road trip. One thing about the UK as well very safe, no lunatics with AR-15's or 9mm only the police carry or when it's hunting season but no assault rifles beyond the military/police forces. Driving isn't on the wrong side only the opposite side of the road. I don't think the ID.3 didn't arrive in the US due to safety as it has a 5-Star EuroNCAP which is probably the most stringent safety test in the world. The ID.3 is not a SUV that's why as the hatchback won't sell enough in the US.
Cool
The steering wheel is on the right side and correct side!!
Those roads in the countryside of the UK are narrower than on the continental side of Europe. Being used to American width it is obviously terrifying to fit on higher speeds on those pathways.
Audi has the same “limitation” to their cruise control.
So funny I live near Exeter and travel to Southampton several times a year. Really enjoyed your thoughts on our hedges and roads. Oh but you got it wrong about our steering wheel on the wrong side. I think American cars have the wheel on the wrong side.
We literally have the steering wheel on the right (hand) side!
Do a Huawei Avatr 12! Gorgeous.
Yellow number plates pre date speed cameras by some years. White plate at the front and yellow on the rear is to make it easy, with a quick glance, to tell if a car is coming towards or away from you. The brain sub consciously sees white/yellow. Also, as the front headlights are white, again it's a sub conscious reaction, white lights, white plate. The rear is yellow as red and black number/letters on a number plate are hard to read.
Dave, your girl is spicy 🌶️
Kathy sounds like ambassador Norm Eisen.
Americans might be unfamiliar with roundabouts but be sure to use indicators ;-)
I like everything about this guy I just don't like what he says about right hand drive cars.
I get it… much respect for your RHD cars; just different from my admittedly myopic ways :) Thanks for watching! Dave
£5.50 = $7.15. If you want a real bargain, go to Tesco for a box of 4 battered cod fillets for £4 - as tasty as chipshop fish!
With the ADAS you can get single mile increments by holding the up / down and it ticks up/down. As speed limits are usually 10's this is fine, also calibrated to be -1+0 mph.
How long did it take to get comfortable driving on opposite side of road?
We went to Ireland a few years ago. I had been worried about driving on the left, big time, before going. I was amazed at how easy it was once behind the wheel.
Its not the wrong side of the road its the opposite side of the road.
Sarcasm here. Just Sarcasm. I know that...
BYD as an EV, as an example of China car industry, definitely American's nightmare.
Exeter is a City not a town ;-)
If you like that bloated ford puma, you should check out the original from the late 90's. Ford design has lost its elegance. They are all bloated blobs now.
Ridiculously narrow roads and huge bushes right next to the roads, can't see anything...would hate to drive over there...
There are much better small SUV EV options than the BYD Atto 3
Wrong
Hey Dave, how come you didn’t charge at one of the Tesla superchargers in Exeter? Much cheaper than Sainsbo’s😃
I heard the fish cakes were to die for
Sorry but this is ….
Chi Na EV are 💩
go back into your toi let!
Takes a bigger s... To think so!
Think you are projecting.
The Hong Kong people are really a disgrace. Do you guys agree?
if you like EV you must go to China and experience it
THAT would be a review!!
