      Thanks for the videos, I'm starting to play around with your water color techniques. Can I ask where you're selling your art. I sell shirts and am on Amazon, Redbubble, and Etsy, but am trying to find more places to sell my digital art files. Thank you

      FlyGuy Nice!! What’s your site? I would love to see! I highly recommend selling graphics on Etsy because of the low fees/commissions, but I’ve also had success on Creative Market! How has redbubble worked for you, if you don’t mind sharing? I’ve not put much time into my store there but feel like it could be a good option!

    Oh also if you wanna do what you do from 7:30 to 8:05, without merging all your layers, you can use command+shift+c and command+shift+v and you'll have a stamp of the visible layer in that selection as a new layer :)

    How big should each image be? And should we use RGB or CMYK? I see a lot pf people printing clipart, but doesn't that change how it looks if RGB is used? I'm so afraid to get started and have them print differently than what they see on the screen. I'm still new and have so many questions.. somehow this is all I could remember to ask lol. I would also like to see more on creating and selling clipart, I'm super insprired, but a little stuck. Great video, thank you! Those cats tho

    • @WoolyPronto
      @WoolyPronto  4 роки тому +7

      Hi! I'm so sorry I missed replying to this! I don't know if you or anyone reading this still wants to know, but just in case - I do RGB honestly just cause it was what we always used at my old job, we would test print art on these huge color-calibrated epson printers and we always worked in RGB... which is totally counter-intuitive to everything i've read on the internet bc usually CMYK is used for printing, like you said. This answer is probably less than helpful haha, sorry!!
      Also for the size - I make clipart generally 5"-12" per element, sometimes smaller for little individual flowers, and larger for big wreaths and such. It's most important to set the customer expectations so just be sure to note the range of sizes in the listing. Most customers will be using the files in standard print and web sizes, so even when it's under 10", it's still plenty big for the vast majority of customers!
      Hope this helps out - again, so sorry I didn't reply before this. Let me know if you've started selling, how it's going, etc! :)

    Hey there! If you wanna make "that outline show" (7:25) hehe command click on the little preview box of your layer and you should have marching ants around the artwork on the selected layer only. You can also add to that selection from other layers with command+shift, to remove from selection command+option and for the intersection with current selection command+shift+option :) (don't know if that is clear enough...)

      I just found a solution lol
      You just need to save your files as PSD after you tidy everything up and then open them up into AI.
      (You dont have to do this bit but this is what i did lol
      1. Cropped each Illustration individually and then I just cut and pasted them in PS on the same artboard canvas.
      2. Once that was done, I saved file as PSD.
      3. Go into AI and open your saved files and upload to AI.
      4. The files will be grouped so youll need to ungroup them CNTL SHFT G or CMND SHFT G and then walla you can move each design freely and place them as you wish :)

    Do you have to have illustrator and/or photoshop in order to complete the clip art? I literally can’t afford either of those even after the 7 day trial. I have procreate though and have used gimp in the past.

    • @WoolyPronto
      @WoolyPronto  5 років тому +2

      Totally get it! I think Gimp and Inkscape would work just as well. I used Gimp before photoshop and you could probably just use that alone and export the files as PNGs individually (skipping the need for illustrator/inkscape)! Honestly Procreate has changed so much since I made this video that I should make an updated one, I think you can do all of this in Procreate (just takes a little longer).

    Thanks for the helpful video. Would creating each individual cat (for example) in separate documents rather than all on one page make it easier to export to AI ? Then you could assemble them in AI to create the package of clip art you want for your final package. The end result would of course be the same but all that clipping/cutting of the cats in photoshop would be side stepped. No experience here ... just asking as I learn. ✂️

    • @WoolyPronto
      @WoolyPronto  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you for your comment! If you aren't using a paper texture overlay, you could totally do that and skip the photoshop step altogether. And really, if you don't have AI, you could just assemble the product images in a different program (even like... google slides or something). Thanks for this suggestion, it's a great way to make the process more accessible, allowing people to bypass software subscriptions!

    So when you moved them from photoshop to illustrator, do they become vector images, that can be resized without losing quality? Also, can I save the Illustrator files with all the cats on it, as AI files? Do you think this would work with art created with Affinity Designer and moved into PS then AI?

    • @chris.369
      @chris.369 4 роки тому +1

      christina wedow Hi! No, they are still raster when she pastes them in Illustrator. The images only become vectors if you use image trace to convert them. There are also some other ways to do things in Photoshop which aren’t destructive, meaning keeping the layers for future use. The white background Addie did in Procreate can also be exported to Photoshop as a layer.

    • @chris.369

    • @WoolyPronto

      Hi! I can't remember which brush I used to draw these, but a great way to smooth your brush strokes in Procreate is by going into the brush options, under "Stroke Properties", adjust "StreamLine" to a higher percentage and it will automatically make the brush buttery smooth to use. This was fantastic! TYVM!!! I don't have Illustrator, but I do have Procreate and Photoshop. I was confused on what to do without Illustrator. How do I get it from Photoshop, to the final, and how do you put it up into Etsy? You have individual PNG files of each kitty, from Illustrator, so do you put them all back together and load up into Etsy as one file the customer can download? Or would you put them up separately? Sorry, I'm confused.

    • @WoolyPronto
      @WoolyPronto  5 років тому +3

      Ian Graham You will just need to export each piece of art as a PNG! You can separate each piece of art into layers and then go to file > export > and either quick export as PNG or “export as...” and click through the menu options that pop up. Once the files are exported, I contain them all into a folder and compress that into a .zip file. If you are selling on Etsy, you might need to separate into several folders and compress them separately to stay under their 20mb file size limit. Hope this helps!!

      This is a great question! The format totally depends - I will include SVG files (and EPS or PDF or AI) with products I've vectorized. I do always include PNGs in either case. I've seen others selling JPG but I don't - because you can't do a transparent background with JPG. I haven't had anyone ask specifically for JPGs yet :)

    I haven’t tried this myself but it feels like this entire process should be doable straight from Procreate without needing to go to other softwares, since Procreate can handle transparency, export to PNG, and you can create masks or erase using the select layer tool. Or is there a reason we need to go to Photoshop?

    • @WoolyPronto

      You're 100% right! I think especially now that Procreate can export each layer as a PNG, it would make a ton of sense to skip the photoshop step . I still work fastest when I'm using PS and AI in tandem (and now use actions to accomplish a lot of these steps!), but I think this is an important point that helps make this process much more accessible and approachable. What about vectorizing? no need?

      If I am vectorizing things, I use the "image trace" feature in AI - but I don't always do this because it requires a fair bit of clean up to look like I didn't image trace it, haha. I am working on more videos right now about making clipart to sell, perhaps I should include that?

      @@WoolyPronto Yes that would be amazing! I find image trace is very hard when the drawing isn't in solid colours. Like a drawing with gradient colours or with shading.

    Where I could sell my work please?

      Etsy is for sure the easiest to get started on, since there isn't an approval process and the listing fees are low. I talk more about selling on different marketplaces in this video if you want to learn more: ua-cam.com/video/RPjBf9jWxdA/v-deo.html

    Are you planning to make a tutorial for these cute kitties?

    The sound is a little muddled you might want to turn down the background music and get a little closer to the microphone. The echo makes it hard to hear it clearly. Otherwise the instructions are great.

      Bill Dungan thank you! Seriously appreciate the feedback and tips! I forgot to turn on the mic when I was filming the beginning and end portions - and I will for sure get closer next time! Still have lots of learning to do, hope it was still a helpful tutorial despite the technical problems ☺️
