Thank you for this tip. I am a self-taught knitter. This tip will help my edges stay neater looking. Thanks Michael!

I noticed when I started learning knitting my edges also came from the land of sin!!! I tried different methods and found the slip stitch edges. I love it!! However I have found on some patterns you'll have to add a st. Thanks!!!

I'm having a problem that I can't seem to find an answer to on the internet. I know how to make nice edges but for some reason my cast on row tends to curve and not be straight I don't know how to fix this. I tend to use the knitted cast on or the cable cast on method. Any help would be appreciated thank you!

you will also get a clean edge if you pearl the last stitch with the yarn in front, then knit the first stitch as usual - it looks like a chain stitch.

Do you need to add an extra cast on stitch if you do this?

      That’s my question, too.

Yes. Because it’s not “technically”part of the pattern❤️

Actually to be completely clear, you would need to add an extra two stitches, one for each side

You only slip the first stitch of each row, not the last. You work the last stitch in pattern, then turn your work. No need to cast on a stitch.

Thanks for the tip. Does this help counteract the curling that happens when I do stockinette stitch (knit a row, pearl a row)? Even if I put a 4 stitch knitted border then stockinette, the piece curls up.

If you want to make a simple beginner shallow triangle shawl/scarf with GORGEOUS CLEAN EDGES, the Pembroke shawl on Ravelry is a best bet. The designer's combination of stitches makes this shawl's edges not only straight but decorative. Check out what it looks like on Ravelry. There are many photos of this pattern on the site. I've only been knitting for a few years and I understand where you're at. This project was so satisfying.
