Wonderful tutorial! I'm an experienced crochet'er who's learning to knit using the Continental style. This lesson has helped me to improve my edging technique. Thanks for sharing!
I know this is an old video, but i have to say thank you. I am new to knitting as of this week. I am ready to tackle my scarf. I am going to use the Garter stitch since that is what I am comfortable with and I knee their had to be a trick to clean edges. I like the Garter stich because both sides are the same and I would like that look on a scarf. This is awesome. Ready to buy my scarf yarn and get to it. I bought some cheaper yarn for practicing this week. I am picking up knitting much easier than I did crochet for some reason.
Do you also use the same method if knitting stocking stitch, please. I am 66 and knitted about 60 of those years and I am still learning, adapting to the new methods for faster knitting. It is wonderful, thank you. Your suggested program of future videos sounds great. Videos are needed so this and crochet doesn't disappear.
I agree with Jacqueline. You are the Knitters Angel. My edges are so untidy and big loops on each side. Thanks for sharing this big secret. As you mentioned at the beginning I never knitted the first stitch as I followed other knitters advise and the knitting looked clumsy and out of shape. Thanks to you I will have lovely edges on my grandsons sweaters. Thanks for sharing and caring. 👍👍👍💕
If the pattern changes from a garter stitch border to stockinette for the body it will roll just by nature. Your best bet is to wet block it if it's wool, or steam kill it if it's acrylic. Please let us know if there anything we can help you with! You can always reach us by email as well.
I started learning to knit months ago, and I tried many types of edges, because mine always come out very bad, and seriously all people say is slip last stitch and knit the first stitch, which was what I did and not what I get lol Thanks for explaining the difference!
The way you knit that last stitch is actually how I knit purl stitch in general, so the neat ends just come naturally. You can try it out, it looks the same as a purl stitch would look like.
Thank you very much for your videos. At the same time I learn knitting with your tips and I learn English. Your pronunciation is very clear. Greetings from Brazil.
Oh my goodness. How wonderfully simple is the solution to a good edge for garter stitch! Thanks so much for sharing. The question is…what to do with the end of a purl row?
Thanks for showing this. I am a beginner, again! I'd like to clean up my edges and see a number of ideas on UA-cam. Nothing has worked, so far, so I'll give this a try.
Hi Bjorn, thank you so much for making this tutorial. I am still new to Knitting and getting nice edges is a headache for me. I am grateful you showed the whole process of what to do, including turning over your work because I had people trying to explain it in writing and it was not making any sense to me. So thank you so much I am so very grateful and you have some other great videos as well. ^_^
Can you use the mattress stitch to sew these edges together in the mitered square ? Been trying to find an easy salvage edges for the mitered square . thanks for sharing the video .
Thank you for your video. Can I ask if this is best way to knit a babies jacket that is knitted in one piece to the underarm, therefore having a border at each end..
Bjorn, what a delight to find your videos. Your pacing is perfection--although the camera is a bit low in parts of this video. I have a baby sweater I'm starting today with Sirdar Snuggly baby bamboo 80% and wool 20%. It will benefit from lovely edges. Thank you.
I don’t know how to knit but I’m watching lots of videos to learn. You have very helpful videos thank you. But I have a question on the last stitch is that what creates the even edges? Since you are knitting the last stitch after you turn it does it ever become weak?
Thank you for this demonstration. I've been knitting for years, but I find I can always learn new ways of doing things, and I love how neat your edges look. Will working the row with this technique work create the same neat edge in stockinette stitch too?
Hello Bjorn, could you suggest a pattern for a bulky long tunic to wear over leggings with boots for winter? Beginner to intermediate would be great because of the yarn weight. Thank you so much for your helpful instructive tutorials. Kind regards.
I recommend Ravelry. So many patterns.manyare free and you can search for patterns by technique, style, yarn weight and so much more. A great knit and crochet community.
Need your help. Just finished an alpaca garter stitch triangular shawl with two colors but one edge is untidy, what type of border can I knit or should I crochet and edge to finish it. Thanks
This was so helpful! I am knitting a series of color block scarves involving intarsia and the garter stitch and I was wondering how to make neater edges. Thank you, Bjorn!!
I am intimidated by charts. If the chart comes with written instructions I always go to the written, but I have a few patterns without written instructions and I do not even attempt it. I would love to learn this. Thanks
Trying something new is always a good thing because you will find it is not as hard as you thought. If you memorize a short repeat that is fine but it is all about relaxing and enjoying and, most importantly, relieving stress. Stay with what makes YOU feel good.
I've been looking through your tutorials to find help with the laura shawl. I think this is the WK that you have in the pattern that had me stuck, so thank you. Also, for any future classes, I normally don't have any significant tension issues but when I change colors in the round I tend to end up with either gaping holes (relatively) or really big stitches. can you help with that in a class, please?
Hi, there is a method to wind the yarn around a ruler and this will give you the gauge, which leads to a table of yarn weights. I will keep this in mind for a future episode.
enjoy your tutprials, cannot wait till I get back to Canada to order some of your beautiful yarns. Is there any duty though, I have to pay? Olga from Montreal
Ahh! I have been making my mother in law a fisherman’s rib scarf and the bumps on the side have been driving me insane because it makes it look sooo sloppy!! I am going to frog it and start again using this! Thank you thank you
i hope someone answers this soon, I find when I post questions to videos, no one ever answers even the creator :) I am very new at knitting forgive! When I knit, my working yarn is in my right hand...when this gentleman is at the end of his row the working yarn is moved over to his left, and it looks like he's working with it in his left....is it because he is left handed? Or is this how you are to knit and I am wrong with holding my "tail" in my right hand? Is it a typical garter stitch he is doing? It looks nothing like how Im knitting or anyone else on other videos when It comes to garter stitch....or is it just a different stich for the ends? So confused
He is knitting in the method commonly called Continental. You are knitting in English method, also called throwing. Google those terms and you will find lots of information.
Love this idea for garter and I also saw your video on making a nice edge on stockinette. I posted them on knittingparadise.com, and some wondered if the instructions are the same if you don't knit continental? thanks. Love your videos.
Hi Bjorn, I've written instructions for Miss Grace shawl pattern written down. I'll be very happy to share. also I'm trying to make a chart with a grid for the Miss Grace for those who are finding difficulties. I'd love to participate remotely if that's possible..
Isn't this going to void a stitch??? As it would normally have been knitted/purled or whatever instead of being slipped and then knitted again at the start of the next row...??
After knitting for approximately 56 years I never knew about this quick, simple technique to give me nice neat side edges. Thank you so very much.
I love your videos and sorry that I found you so late. Such wonderful demonstrations and so easy to follow. Thank you
Wonderful tutorial! I'm an experienced crochet'er who's learning to knit using the Continental style. This lesson has helped me to improve my edging technique.
Thanks for sharing!
I'm brand new to knitting, using UA-cam to learn. I love your videos and they have made it so easy!!
I'm so glad!
He actually starts demonstrating this @ 3:58.... you're welcome 💐
Thank you for this VERY helpful video! I was always unhappy with my edges, and now I can make them nicely like you do! ! !
I know this is an old video, but i have to say thank you. I am new to knitting as of this week. I am ready to tackle my scarf. Thank you! This is such a simple technique to tidy up garter stitch edges. I’ve been knitting for over fifty years and am still learning.
Clever! Is there a corresponding trick for getting a chain/Vs/jersey-looking border?
TY for showing us this. The tips you share make our knitting look so much better for us. I just love you!
Thank you Alicia. I am happy to share my experiences.
Do you also use the same method if knitting stocking stitch, please. I am 66 and knitted about 60 of those years and I am still learning, adapting to the new methods for faster knitting. Thank you !! I use this edge all the time now. It is always beautiful and so easy!!
That's a nice straight edge all right. Thank you for another great tutorial.
Love your knitting tutorials. So easy to follow. Thank you. Also, really like all those colorful shirts.
WOW! You are a knitting angel!! This is just what I needed. THANK YOU!!!!!
Thanks for showing this new way to make a perfect edge trued others but this one easy and quick to learn
Once again I learned a little trick! Thank you so much for these videos. I love them.
:-)
Thank you I think this is just what I needed I've been trying to figure that out but had no one to teach me!
Great tip and great video! What do you do if the pattern you’re following ends the edge on a purl stitch?
Thanks for the tutorial...now I can make neat side edge for my project..
I agree with Jacqueline. You are the Knitters Angel.

👍👍👍💕
Thanks so much. Could we have a tutorial on how to keep a garter stitch border flat please as the baby cardigan I’m knitting is rolling up?
If the pattern changes from a garter stitch border to stockinette for the body it will roll just by nature. Your best bet is to wet block it if it's wool, or steam kill it if it's acrylic. Please let us know if there anything we can help you with! You can always reach us by email as well.

Thank you for keeping it simple and teaching so much Love your channel
Thank you very much for your videos. At the same time I learn knitting with your tips and I learn English. Your pronunciation is very clear. Greetings from Brazil.
Thank you! Very nice edges. I will look at your other videos to. The edges become really nicer!

Lady GD شكرا جزيلا على هذا الموضوع المفيد
Oh my gosh, THANK YOU!!! This was just what I needed! ❤️
How do you bind off on the last row. With this neat edge
This is prefect! I wanted a neat edge to a garter garment that wouldn't take away the look of garter.
very nice I'm going to practice this, thank you so much
Very good demo.
Thank you for sharing this technique now I won't have to worry about my edges looking messy again.
Lovely! Thank you for sharing!
Will you please make a silk lacey shawl? Thanks
Can you use the mattress stitch to sew these edges together in the mitered square ? Been trying to find an easy salvage edges for the mitered square . thanks for sharing the video .
If you use this edge technique, the best stitch for seaming will be the invisible vertical seam.
It would be nice to know how to fit a sweater..bust, sleeve length?
does this apply to stockinette stitch, moss stitch as well or only garter?
Thank you ! That was very helpful.
Thank you for your video. Can I ask if this is best way to knit a babies jacket that is knitted in one piece to the underarm, therefore having a border at each end..
Thank you, thank you from a novice knitter.
Wow, that was a great technique! Thank you!
Bjorn, what a delight to find your videos. Your pacing is perfection--although the camera is a bit low in parts of this video. I have a baby sweater I'm starting today with Sirdar Snuggly baby bamboo 80% and wool 20%. It will benefit from lovely edges. Thank you.
Thank you! When you show patterns could you please include how to do the edges?
Dear Bjorn, I would like to know how to make the easiest lace stitch in the fewest rows! I enjoy your videos! Thank you, grace
I don’t know how to knit but I’m watching lots of videos to learn. You have very helpful videos thank you. But I have a question on the last stitch is that what creates the even edges? Since you are knitting the last stitch after you turn it does it ever become weak?
Is this a good edge for the seams of a sweater that have to be sewn together?
Thank you for this demonstration. I've been knitting for years, but I find I can always learn new ways of doing things, and I love how neat your edges look. Will working the row with this technique work create the same neat edge in stockinette stitch too?
Tomi Everhart
Please could you do a step by step video on how to do cable stitch coz I just cant remember
How do we tell the WS & RS? Thank you so much for your guidance.
Hello Bjorn, could you suggest a pattern for a bulky long tunic to wear over leggings with boots for winter? Beginner to intermediate would be great because of the yarn weight. Thank you so much for your helpful instructive tutorials. Kind regards.
Hm, that could be an idea for a new SKEINO kit.. Until then I would suggest having a look at Ravelry. :)
I recommend Ravelry. So many patterns.manyare free and you can search for patterns by technique, style, yarn weight and so much more. A great knit and crochet community.
Wow! I wish I knew this year's ago! Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing!!! Good luck!
Thanks for this tutorial. How to knit a nice edge when knitting linen stitch ?
Hi! Always knit or purl through the back loop (depending on what your first stitch is), this will give you a beautiful edge.
Thank you! Great tip!
Cool to see a man knitting :) Awesome videos!
What do you do if you end with a purl?
Need your help. Just finished an alpaca garter stitch triangular shawl with two colors but one edge is untidy, what type of border can I knit or should I crochet and edge to finish it.
Thanks
Was the shawl you knit the Purl Soho half and half wrap Harlean
This was so helpful! I am knitting a series of color block scarves involving intarsia and the garter stitch and I was wondering how to make neater edges. Thank you, Bjorn!!
Very helpful. Thank you !
Thank you for showing how to make a neater edge. Better than having a sloppy edge.👍
I am intimidated by charts. If the chart comes with written instructions I always go to the written, but I have a few patterns without written instructions and I do not even attempt it. I would love to learn this. Thanks
I know I feel like knitting is some sort of exam that you have to memorize the patterns. Well for someone that doesn't knit enough.
Trying something new is always a good thing because you will find it is not as hard as you thought. If you memorize a short repeat that is fine but it is all about relaxing and enjoying and, most importantly, relieving stress. Stay with what makes YOU feel good.
How do you bind off on this one
Please tell me how to knit I cord edge in garter stitch
Does this same method work with rib stitching?
finally a great tutorial that works thank you so much
I've been looking through your tutorials to find help with the laura shawl. I think this is the WK that you have in the pattern that had me stuck, so thank you. Am I correct you are knitting continental style? I'm a very new beginner, trying the other way.
So sorry for missing your question! Yes, this is continental style. Our newer tutorials are shown in English style.
I would love to learn to make socks. Would you have a class on that?
I would love to be shown how do knit neater rib bands. Mine always seem so loose. P.s. Love your videos.
I would like to know how to tell the yarn weight if the yarn does not have a label. Sometimes fingering weight is hard to tell from other weights.
Hi, there is a method to wind the yarn around a ruler and this will give you the gauge, which leads to a table of yarn weights. I will keep this in mind for a future episode.
+Skeino Yarn thanks
Thank you.it is too helpful 🙂
Can you send a video for knitting a simple design for front side of adult sweater ( simple) design
How to do nice near buttonholes please
This is genius! Thank you!
Is there a place we can go for o see your classes?
Is this example to only be used with garter stitch?
Hi, mainly "yes". I will show more edges in our next episode.
+Skeino Yarn thank you! I enjoy watching your videos.
Thank you very much 😊
I was searching "how to do perfect Edegs" and this showed up 😂
enjoy your tutprials, cannot wait till I get back to Canada to order some of your beautiful yarns. Is there any duty though, I have to pay? Olga from Montreal
Hello! Pueden configurar subtítulos en español? Gracias!
Ahh! I have been making my mother in law a fisherman’s rib scarf and the bumps on the side have been driving me insane because it makes it look sooo sloppy!!
I am going to frog it and start again using this! Thank you thank you
What's frogging it?
@@karinberryman7970 It means unpicking (You 'rip it' out which sounds like 'ribbit' - therefore, frogging!) I *think* it's a crochet term.
Beautiful yarn!
Please show us how to start from the first line.
Thank you for your tutorial.💕🌺👏
Thank you, will be using this in future.
Yea! I can have nice, clean edges now! Mine are always so raggedy looking.
i hope someone answers this soon, I find when I post questions to videos, no one ever answers even the creator :)

Hi, everybody is welcome to participate. Thank you for your offer. Please email me at bjorn@skeino.com. Thank you.
love it. count me in. I'll send questions in
You are an awesome designer.
Isn't this going to void a stitch??? As it would normally have been knitted/purled or whatever instead of being slipped and then knitted again at the start of the next row...??
Yo tejo toda la vuelta y a la siguiente el primer punto lo paso sin tejer. Queda igual y cuesta menos trabajo. Gracias.
That was great edging!
Thanks for this!
