When I was a teenager some 45 years ago, My stepdad bought a 14 foot Gregor boat that was Rated for 15 hp. We then proceeded to install in Evenrude 35. The boat was just insane, at wide-open throttle, it would stand on the prop For 500 feet before it would come in to plane. We learned not to do this heading to wind because it would easily blow over like a dragster. We finally got it to behave somewhat by putting several hundred pounds at anchor chain in the Bow. The final touch was repainting the engine cover, to indicate 7 hp so we could go on Lake Jennings. Thanks for the trip Down Memory Ln., Luke. Is that sweatshirt going to be available on your website?
@franksprecisionguesswork501 I wasn't saying I didn't believe you I guess the point I was trying to make is most of the fish Commissioners game wardens whatever in my areas could tell the difference between a 9.9 and a 7 hp just eyeballing it . Take care and be safe.
Please keep that motor on its great and suits the boat perfectly. I want a diesel outboard for my 3.5 metre tinny. Please keep it on I beg you it’s perfect and it sounds amazing.
If you ain't splittin' your boat in half, you ain't from the Dena and you ain't no crabber. Love the video. You should definitely make more like this. The working videos are good but the videos like this are more entertaining for sure.
A Yanmar Diesel is an amazing find. I've got two big inboards on my boat that are over 20 years old each. Basic maintenance will keep an older Yanmar going forever.
I want a diesel outboard so bad but just a tip may wanna get a new prop for it looks like that one was for mount around heavy loads n whatnot as it’s very low pitched
There’s one of these in pieces behind my friends old boat house. We got it started one day playing very easily but couldn’t figure out how to shut it off. The moment you did the same had me on the floor.
Luke That was pretty funny. I think you better find a new outboard camera person, your going to need Lindsey up front for counter weight and guidance. The Great Lakes freighters all have a steering reference pole off of the bow. You might need something aft so that you can steer where you are going based upon where you have been, cause you ain't seeing over that bow without a co-pilot! 👋🤠
That motor was runnin nice! I wouldn't have stepped foot into that boat until the steering friction was increased a ton! Let go of that tiller when underway and U'd be ejected right now! I bet it uses 1/3rd the fuel compared to an old 30HP 2-stroker! I bet you could double the speed by putting a much higher pitch prop on it. Was probably set up for low speed with grunt.
Been sailing a lot with the 36 hp version, on a boat with two 36 hp yanmar disel, must say that they are hard to kill, and got a lot of low end power, simply a great felling engine, with no turbo lack or electronic throttel control - the power is always when you want it. Its a shanme that yanmar dont makes theses anymore
I had a 25 on back of 14 foot all aluminum Jon boat I weigh 265 Had to put 4 -45 pound bench press weights in the front just so it wouldn't stand straight up and wanna talk about on the edge of out of control and did same as yours especially when you get the turning mixed up! I almost flipped it before it had to come Off Things ya did when you were in your 20's from Southern Md yeeeee yeeee 🇺🇸 🍺 🦅 😂
My favorite part about this is I'd bet childhood Luke thought about doing something like this the first time he owned the boat. It's exactly the kind of wild idea a kid would come up with and adults would shut down cause of the risk. Solution: wait till you're an adult and see all those ideas through!
If you don’t have a diesel outboard on your 16ft skiff, then you ain’t no crabber
Can confirm
😂
❤
@@fvsoutherngirlHello buddy any where I can get such an engine?
Run amsoil interceptor in it
Luke, man, if the crabber gig doesn’t work out, you have a definite future as a comedian. You’re too funny! Love your style.
Thanks for watching!
The best line is, " I don't understand. It was falling apart now it won't come apart. " I have so been there.
Every time

Haha! That’s awesome! Yeah I’ve swapped some hp stickers myself 😅 sweatshirts coming this summer!
I love your story but as far as painting seven horses on it what fish commissioner or game warden would be that stupid enough to believe that
@@n40tom Lake, Jennings, Lakeside, California, but we did most of our boating at Martinez Lake north of Yuma, Arizona on the Colorado river.

I'm an Aussie and I watch your videos all the time.
Love them.
This one is up there as one of the funniest lol
As a fellow diesel owner. I've only embraced my identity the most now that I don't own any trucks. I drive a Mk4 Golf TDI and I'm obnoxious about it!
This is awesome, had no idea they made diesel outboards.. well time to hit marketplace 😄
Those sun glasses missed me up with the stickers still on them.... every time you look at the camera I thank you looking at someone behind me👍👍👍

Great video Luke, If anybody gives you trouble over this video tell them about what idle hands can do to you. Keep on keeping on😅😅
Maybe put the old motor in the front, you know for trolling!!!😂
Most of my projects end up this way. Love diesels . 300 lbs. !! I got 425k carefree miles on my VW. From Barnegate Light area.

Wow you get into trouble when you’re not crabbing!!!
Merry Christmas
True!
Luke, just spray the whole bottom of that skiff with that black rubber stuff. That’ll do ya. Better than Lindsay’s boot.
A Yanmar Diesel is an amazing find. I've got two big inboards on my boat that are over 20 years old each. Basic maintenance will keep an older Yanmar going forever.
Hell yea like that 1956 2 duce an a 1/4....that's a Cadillac 2 1/2 valve -16hp double hull Exon valdes....👍👍👍
Well done, great time. Thank you for sharing, make that money
Motor is long shaft! You need short shaft 20” ! Or raise transom height
That was hilariously awesome
nice thing about diesel is its reliable. all you need is fuel and air and itll run
Disel sates flash fak years not use fas onky 6 month
This kid is awesome. Great sense of humor.
Now this is awesome! I never knew they built a diesel outboard!
I didn't either til I seen it here. I'm certainly going to be trying to hunt one down. I like weird small diesels.
Thanks for the show Luke 🍻 🇦🇺
This is awesome! We just started a video series on pretty much the same boat - turning it into a camper! ❤
Aluminum pop rivets work good to fix pin holes.
Stainless and aluminum are a match made in heaven.
Only thing missing is a 5” stack lol
That motor is so cool!
That was some good entertainment 2:25 my favorite part it really got me
"It looks like its fallin' apart, now i cant get it apart!" Thanks for the morning laugh
Love the vid. If you don’t make it crabbing you might get a residence as a stand up comic in Las Vegas 😂😂
I want a diesel outboard so bad but just a tip may wanna get a new prop for it looks like that one was for mount around heavy loads n whatnot as it’s very low pitched
That was the first thing I thought of when you introduced different metals you got to watch for electrolysis . The weaker metal is always a sacrifice
Rip this Joker right in half! 🤣 Merry Christmas to you and your family. BTW that transom repair was pretty solid.
Need more content on this ride! Put a jack plate/tilt trim on it and dial it in!!!!
That is a amasing motor looking forward to see whats next
6:24 - I shot coffee out my nose. This is great fun. Thanks for what you do.
I think that little diesel engine could push a little barge around. Maybe a wheelie or two.
This might be one of your best vids. 😂
Now you need to collab with whistlindiesel 😂
7:52 that's freaking awesome! I needed that image in my head! Lol!
Should get a longer controller pole. sit further forward
I laughed non-stop in this video. Thank you sir and Merry Christmas to all!
My new all time favorite!
Thanks for watching!!
I have a 2011 Mercury 25 tiller short shaft, 4 stroke 3 banger, wet weight is almost 300lbs. The weight for 27hp isn’t that bad in my opinion.
Dude you crack me up, laughed so hard at your smooth delivery of jokes🤣😅
I love how this video was edited you are hilarious.
There’s one of these in pieces behind my friends old boat house. We got it started one day playing very easily but couldn’t figure out how to shut it off. The moment you did the same had me on the floor.
Nicely done Luke. Love the summary video! When were you out on the water to do this one?
This is the time to put a helm station forward on the jon boat...
and an anti cavitation plate/fin on the outboard?
My dads 1660 flat bottom has a 55 gas burner on it. it's sketchy wide open, lol
I’m gonna need to see a top speed video of this 😂

Man, watching your videos makes me really miss Maryland. They REALLY don’t know how to cook crabs here in Florida.
Pretty accurate. So many diesel guys make it their whole personality
Dude said what is my hand doing hahaha dude diesel baby y’all think he’s ready for zip ties and bias plies 😂😂😂

Buddy is over compensating for something? 😅 Love your videos.
Personally I think that boat is great and that motor is perfect for it

Luke, I'm laughing hysterically at your antics!! Merry Christmas to you and Lyndsay.
“It looks like it’s falling apart, now I can’t get it apart” story of my life working on commerical boats
This went better for you than the premise would suggest it should have.
I want to see you crabbin in that thing 😂
Same!
LOL!! Merry Christmas!!
It needs a shark tail on the motor to trim it out. It would help to beef up the poop deck as well.
What a terrible idea. I love it!!
This was hilarious! 😂😂😂
This was great 👍
This video is gold, thanks for the laugh today
Thanks for watching!
I could watch your shenanigans all day.
I like that diesel boat video you have awesome commentary borderline comical
Honestly that idea for the glove seal on your fuel tank is genius! I'm certainly going to be borrowing that!
My favorite part about this is I'd bet childhood Luke thought about doing something like this the first time he owned the boat. It's exactly the kind of wild idea a kid would come up with and adults would shut down cause of the risk.
