I'm from Hawaii and started the Kalalau Trail with my mom and brother when I was 12. A bouncy happy hippie came by wearing only his backpack. My mom made us turn back. This was a million years ago.
Wow, Kyle, not sure if it's more surprising that you have 140 subscribers so soon after 100k, or that you have agf & she agreed to backpack with you 🤔 Congrats in the incredible growth!

A lot of the products you speak on still helps me with my simplicity of camping and day hikes. Thanks so much for the laughs and education.
Normally I would scoff at the foam pad, but I've camped in Kalalau, and pretty much any inflatable sleeping pad is going to be much too warm. I ended up sleeping on the tent floor. Also, while you'll want to bring the rain fly with you, ditching it at night to allow the heat and humidity inside your tent escape is essential -- so bring a tarp. No single-wall tents for this hike.
If Kyle really has a GF....I think we all need to speak w/her - how about a live ? Dig the Paris Mt shirt, camping there in May as my daughter has a USL-W (soccer) game in Greenville.
I made the mistake of taking a two day hike without a GPS I developed planters fasciitis, I just was unable to hike and took an extra 12 hours to get out of a no cellphone service area. Not having the ability to send out updates was a stupid move.

Hiking Kalalau in May. Considering picking up special sand stakes, curious if you'd think that's worth it for this hike. Thanks for the great content Kyle!
@@KyleHatesHiking camping in a non-stop gale on a beach a couple of summers ago I used the large MSR tent pegs and mine was the only tent that didn't blow down. Sand or snow stakes might be worth acquiring if those are conditions you're dealing with frequently. But a good technique is to 'dead-man' -- tying your lines to the middle of your stakes and burying them horizontally. Piling rocks on top of a horizontal tent stake can also work, as Kyle mentioned. Bigger stakes mean more bulk and weight.

Video is 3 weeks old. But could someone explain to me why hiking poles are so important?
They help your knees on downhills and are good for support when going through rivers.

I got an Alien pack made and it carries like it's made for my 10 year old. I contacted Brandon and he says sorry I don't know what you expect me to do. I was really hoping it was going to be my new go to pack. Very disappointed...
Another gear video...? Dude wanna try some longer videos of you just wandering the trails, making decisions and stuff with little to no mention of gear or food, especially gear. Also u gotta know this, if I run out of herb on trail will it find me eventually or should I bring 6 months worth?
My thermarest has 3000 plus miles on it. I've had it since 2016 popped once I put some super glue over the hole and no problems since.
Lots of people will keep their ice axe in hand above the treeline for potential self arrest. Last time I was there several people had only microspike and one in only sneakers. Safety in a spectrum based on people's comfort. Highly recommend getting some training from guides to get comfortable. Happy Trails!
Oh man! 11 smacks!! This is gonna be a good gear video. 👍👍
got that right Annie!
