The Snowpeak Spork is a five out of five. I’ve had mine for over 20 years and is the best money you can spend on any backpacking gear. Perfect design, the tines are long enough to be useful, the spoon is deep enough to eat broth in a lightweight durable tool. I’m tired of people complaining about utensil length and deep bags, just cut a couple inches off the bag and you don’t have to worry about it!

Love the breakdown - I guess the shoe weight doesn't matter if you're not going to use them again.
On thru-hike gear videos I always have to mention that I love my Vibram FiveFingers but make sure you get the newer version (VTrail 2.0) which has the improved outsole arch protection. Vibram brought back the Warrior Dash inspired Spyridon this year, which also uses the new, improved trail running outsole and is similar to the VTrail with the addition of a stabilizer strap across the upper (similar to the VTrain model, which focuses on gym/weight training).
Some people find they're just not made for their shape of foot, and that's okay; my wife likes them but she has short toes and very wide feet so the FiveFingers are not comfortable for her, but she loves her Furoshiki shoes/boots (which accommodate many shapes because they're a wrap style zero drop design).
I am not an affiliate but we buy enough of them that I should probably ask Vibram about that...I just get tired of seeing people get foot damage and ruin their shoes, generally spoiling what's an otherwise great time out in the boondocks, and since I have cuboid/cuneiform damage in my right foot (smashed in accident) I can't wear hard soled shoes/boots anymore, even stuff like converse (it pulls on the top of my foot) so I had to try some things or somehow go barefoot all the time. FiveFingers are what worked - also keeps my pinky toe active, which was also partially dead (nerve damage from accident).
I wear them literally everywhere and I live in Oregon 🙂
Thanks for sharing your stories and experiences.

Kyle, the channel is awesome you all killed it on the PCT! I am actually attempting (permit willing) to get out there 2023 season. The permit system has changed now and I got the shittiest time imaginable... basically 10 mins before the cut off window to apply. So my question is... do you remember when you were in the que what position you had and what kind of selection you had to choose from starting wise?

I bought an REI Sahara Shade after I saw it in your initial video. After a 42 mile hike it was already filthy and no amount of washing would remove that filth. It's great though. I also now have an OR Echo which I like and that one doesn't look nearly as gross after 300 miles on the Camino, but it's also only SPF20 and it's way less durable; it started unraveling after one hike. The REI is solid and also has a cinch on the hood which is nice.

I wear the Patagonia Capilene thermal weight base layer 1/4 zip top and bottoms because they weigh less, are warmer and more breathable than the midweight. The only benefit of the midweight bottoms is the micro grid fleece outer shell fabric is more resistant to abrasion than the thermal weight, which makes it better to wear while hiking.

weird I've had pretty good luck with my polycryo ground sheet. I've used it for about 200 trail miles and probably another dozen or so nights on top of that. It has two small holes so it's not exactly unscathed but a couple squares of duct tape fixes that. I'm taking the same one on another 200ish mile trip in a few months. If it ends in disaster I'll report back but I expect it'll be fine.

LMNT is so good. I got the sample pack a few months ago. The flavors are really nice. Weighs half as much as a liquid Iv pack and has a way better electrolyte ratio. Plus no sugar. Although I can’t stand the unflavored LMNT. It tastes like a sweaty ocean. All the other flavors are great. LMNT is my favorite drink mix by far.

I got a 60watt anker wall plug which I don't think would be good for a phone but for my oversized 20k power bank it's amazing and charges the bank in 2-2.5 hours I never even thought about getting another one for my phone but I bet it's great
My altras broke in under 300 miles which was way too fast luckily it was on the inside around the heel cup and I was able to fix it with gorilla tape and stretch them a bit longer but I agree they are nice but don't last nearly as long as they should for the premium price they cost now they are ok for walking around at home or maybe for river shoes but a little sketchy for backpacking
Please do a video on camera stuff that would be interesting

Dude, what is wrong with all the newer Altras? my new LonePeak 4.5´s fell apart after only 300 miles and soles were already run down then. Good shoes but the durabilty is getting ridiculously poor. The old ones up to 2018 did not have that "problem"; it´s a money-making thing i guess

Can’t really compare a 600 dollar tent with a 300 dollar tent imo… although for the price range of the gossamer it’s kind of hard to have a fair competitor because everything else in that 3-400 dollar range is so much heavier .. the whole selling point to me of the one is the weight of it ….. I do however understand why ur comparing the two based off the fact u just used them both on the same trail lol … I think the gossamer would have suited u better on a different trail as opposed to the pct
As far as keeping as light as possible but also wanting a better tent I think zpacks is the clear winner as far as brand choice right now …. If I’m gonna get a zpacks though I’m gonna fork over the extra 100 bucks and get the duplex , I like to sleep with my gear inside and I don’t mind the tiny bit extra weight and having to use an extra pole …. I think having the extra room definitely comes in handy ….
Either way u can’t go wrong with any zpacks tent , their the best right now and have been for awhile

    • @mtadams2009
      @mtadams2009 Рік тому

I jerked around getting the Zapcks Duplex and purchased a couple of BA tents that were excellent tents but still not light enough. I went all in this year and there is no looking back. I hike with my dog so the Duplex is needed. I think down the road I will get the solo version because going UL has been such a game changer for me. I own a lot of Zapcks gear and it’s all need great. Expense but money well spent. I hiked the Long Trail this year with my dog and it was a great time. Colorado Trail next year. Take care
