Pre facelift E63 still looks the best to me. Aggressive yet still elegant. Love that the front end and four headlights make it look unique too.
You can see the overall design started subtly changing towards a more rounded design started from the 2014 facelift. i wonder will they change back to the sharp muscular look with the next generation product.

Agree, a prefacelift W212 with the M156, then facelift its rear-end with the better looking bumper, diffuser and tail lights and you got yourself the best looking W212 of the 3

I've been lusting after an e63S W212 for a few months now. Thanks for helping me learn so much about these cars. Now that some are 5+ years old now, I can finally (maybe) afford one.
You might be able to afford buying one but can't afford maintenance, ownership cost on these high performance cars is expensive.
In my opinion the W212 is the best E-Class of all time !

The M157 timing chain issue was fixed in production from 2013 when both the upgraded chain and check valve style tensioner was fitted. Any timing chain issues on 13 on engines is from lack of service / oil changes and not a common fault. (Actually an issue with most late model chain driven cam cars if you neglect them)
I own a 2011 W212 E63 with the legendary M156 6.2 V8 and I love it so much!

Their are a few rare options 14-16 models to get is the carbon edition for $15k and B&O sound for $5k which is well worth spending for. Great vid and love them AMG engine that is hand built to perfection.

5:33 is the most replayed part of this video. 2013 engine is when they fixed the intercooler issue (main suspect for engine catastrophe). Regarding the wagon comparison, the pre-lift 2013 front looks much more aggressive with its sharp, symmetrical lines. Do what you will with this information.

Great video, I own a black 2010 W212 E63 with P30 performance package and AMG drivers package. It had its head bolts replaced while your in there when doing the timing by Tasos Moschatos. Performance pack E63 is very stiff and can get annoying. I previously owned a w211 E55.
How is it comoares to the E55 ?
I recently bought a CLS55
Responsive, Much better handling and sharper driving and fun gearshifts,
E55 is more stable and comfortable at speeds above 200 km/h and is built with much higher quality parts in the interior and less plastics. Carpets in the E55 are more luxurious. Costs were cut in quality of materials but most are hidden in the E63.
I also have 2011 E63 P30 and live in UAE. Is Tasos recommended? I heard he knows these cars very well.

Make sure to get a car that has the updated timing chain if buying a 5.5 biturbo. (2013 & up).

@@comedian376 I know exactly what you mean, had mine now 1 and a half years. The performance and that exhaust sound is amazing. Not many cars sound as good as the 156. The newer amg's don't in my opinion.

Thank you for another great video! If my CLS55 survives few years I'm definitely skipping 4th gen E-Class. I really like the 5th gen 2017-2020 and so far I'm not a fan of 2021 facelift because of its taillights and front grille. So I'm interested in understanding the difference between 17', 18', 19' and 20' models.
love the channel and the detail vids. What a great learning opportunity for me as I look for my own e63. I am thinking about purchasing a used 2010 model year e63 with performance package. One area that sounded weird to me was that the steering wheel feels loose when the car is completely off. You are able to move left and right for about 5 degree and there's a slight knocking sound. The dealer said this is relatively normal but I am skeptical. Would you know if this is a common issue for earlier year e63? Should I look to replace the coupling shaft? Any feedback is appreciate it!

I just finished watching it. Again, thank you for your great content! I've spent a while comparing differences in infotainment systems throughout the model years of W212 E-Class and I think later models have more desirable and more comfortable and more advanced systems. For example, on later models you get 360' view and better rear view on-screen parking assistant. Also large HDD etc. If I had to buy W212 I'd by 2016 S-model. Same with W221 where I prefer 2012-2013 models while earlier AMG S221 models are noticeably cheaper. I'm not sure if I ever buy a wagon. They look nice but I don't think they are better than sedans. Yes, wagons are roomier than sedans but how often do you need an extra cargo volume? I have a minivan that has much more cargo volume compared to a wagon. It's also taller. You can fit huge boxes or bicycles without removing wheels inside a minivan. This is what I call practical. Unfortunately, Benz doesn't make AMG minivans anymore. The only reason I'd buy an AMG wagon is its look. I really really like those thin and precise taillights on the S213 model. Also I'm not sure if older AMG wagon keep they value. This car will require more and more funds to keep them on the road. Also Mercedes did a fantastic job with recent MBUX when they introduced an AR HUD display. Soon driving W212 will feel like driving an early 220 S-Class with small displays which are totally useless nowadays. So in my opinion while MB is pushing technology in their newer models, older models will look more and more like dinosaurs which will only hurt their resale values. It's my personal opinion.
Fantastic video as always! I test drove a few AMG's here in Sydney one day one of which was teh W212 E63 with an M156....but went for my W221 S63....I'll add one of these to the collection soon! Thanks again :)

Funny you mention the red brakes... two of our cars have had this issue with the peeling. On my C63 with only 37k miles at the time so I just peeled off the remainder clearcoat and resprayed with some VHT caliper clearcoat. Seems to be doing the same on our SLS with only 15k miles so it’s pretty annoying
2011 Performance pack e63 is the sweet spot - 156 engine won’t be repeated in this format again, what a soundtrack, the drama, the n/a goodness, who cares if tech is dated, buy laptop if that’s your bag lol real car people know I’m right!

There are currently 0 w212 amg s saloons or wagons for sale in the UK. There were around 3 in March. There's around 20 w212 non s cars for sale in the UK. Makes deciding which one to buy a whole lot easier 😁

2011 is the best year for M156
2012-2014 avoid at all costs!!!
2015-2016 okay to buy (M157 is still crap but not as bad as 2012-2014 cars.
Please could you explain why M157 is still crap? Also what about later M157 engines like 2016-2018. I see G-wagens had this engine till 2018. Thanks.
Open Diff I had a 2012 E63. It went through two engines. The problem seem to be with those new Piezo type fuel injectors. I was going through spark plugs very fast as well. This all ended up in scoring on cylinder walls. This is all US market experience. I hear that our poor quality fuel can be the culprit. Either way, this should not have been happening
@@timmietz I feel your pain bud. I know on the other side of the ocean people Install forged sleeves when scoring happens. Though I only read and watched about Porsche 4.8 engines. I guess here it would cost a fortune. I'm glad you had a warranty which should have covered those failed engines. Eventually I'd like to get a later 1st gen 463 G-wagen but I guess I need to do more research on these M157 engines...

Should I sell my '06 E55 for the W212 E63? Is it worth it?
I would say the E55 has the comfort angle covered really well. With the W212 you lose the comfort somewhat but you're getting a far more dynamic car . Are you thinking 6.2 or 5.5 w212?

What is your opinion w212 e500/e550(for Nort America) with the 4.7 biturbo. They are quite tunable.
I have 2013 e63 Optioned with B&O surround system and truck subwoofer .its not sounding that great compared to standard h/k sound system .the h/k sounds more loud and have more bass in my opinion not worth that money to spending on it back in the days . However it’s looks like fantastic inside the car with those chrome pieces all around n especially when that little ambient lighting illuminates at night….
We need a BMW M channel with this much knowledge and effort put in

My mum has had alot of issues with the injectors and dpf in her early 2009 w212 220 cdi. I believe that these issues where fixed by Mercedes shortly after the release of the w212

I understand the W212 chassis, especially in AMG guise, is likely technically brilliant--however, for me, its shape can't trigger emotions in the same way as the sensuous curves of the gorgeous early W211s, nor even the awesome early W124. The W212 facelift's styling... well, ignorant colleagues named it the 'catfish' and awful it disposed of a traditional 3-pointed star.
So do the W212 6.2’s have the really expensive brakes of the face lifted w211 E63?
All this video has managed to do for me is make me want an e63s wagon that’s currently for sale (that I cannot afford) rather than this 2010 sedan… 😂

You said the facelift 2014 has an optional exterior carbon fiber trim package. That is true but the pre facelift 2010 to 2013 also had an optional exterior carbon fiber package and the palladium silver sedan you showed in the video at 11:44 actually has the package.
G Rosa Yes, that is true but I believe it was special order for 2010-2013 in the US and a normal offering for 2014+.
AMGmeister you are incorrect. It was an SPC code (special order) in both pre facelift (2010-2013 for $3,125) and facelift (2014-2016 for $3,125) vehicles. The carbon exterior is one of several special order options (heated rear seats being another example) that requires an additional $250 charge. The charge is not added for each special order option however and only applied once regardless of how many you picked. I’ve included links to the dealer ordering guides for 2013 and 2014:

No, it was optional - 471 MECHANICAL LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL - on the data card.

Hey AMG Meister, you forgot to mention the carbon bits on the bottom of the front bumper on the 10-13 E63 sedan.
Yes, there was a carbon fibre exterior package for the 10-13 but it was special order only I believe, not advertised in the brochures.

M156 cars have MCT? Are you sure it’s not 7G Tronic? I know M157 cars are MCT but M156?
2010-2011 E63 with M156 does have MCT transmission. 2012-2015 C63 with M156 also has MCT.
