    Two people I wouldn't want to arm wrestle. Those 300 + foot pullups are no joke a workout.
    Nice job (again).

      Haha that's awesome! Thanks Alan - you are definitely right about those 300+ foot retrievals... arms are definitely burning by the end! Although somehow the pain is a little more bearable when you have a halibut to show for it vs. a simple bait check! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

    Captain Zac and Mary
    Thanks for sharing your awesome day.
    Love the way the Queen sets up on the first Hali.
    Deep grunt and a swing that takes her 3/4 across the deck…Great effort.
    I just bought my plane ticket to Petersburg..
    Looking forward to getting hooked up..
    Tight Lines my friend!

      @CaptainZac  6 місяців тому

      Hey @ThePiscatorian360 thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this footage! @PeelingLine mentioned that this may have been a redbanded rockfish (which makes sense since tiger rockfish tend to have darker stripes). Either way - a cool looking fish! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

    Awesome haul out there. Some good variety but that was a redbanded rockfish (Sebastes babcocki) the tiger rockfish have narrower bands and more. That said I am very jealous of you catching one. I would love to get one. 👍

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  6 місяців тому

      Hey @PeelingLine thanks for stopping by and I appreciate the correction! I don't catch too many of these so at a quick glance thought it was a tiger rockfish (I suppose a tiger rockfish has darker stripes also). Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

    Nice action! Do you ever fish much ling cod? Definitely my favourite for eating (amongst the white-fleshed fish). I really appreciate you taking the time to share your fishing adventures.

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  6 місяців тому

      Hi Jonathan thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you are enjoying these fishing adventures! Unfortunately, I've still yet to crack the code on catching ling cod near Juneau. Some folks pick up ling cod but they are pretty rare around here. As you get towards the open ocean, they become much more abundant. I caught a small ling while trolling for salmon a few years ago and sometimes pick up small lings while halibut fishing - but nothing of much size. I'm hoping to change my luck on the lings this season! Do you fish for lings or buy it in a store? Tight lines! Captain Zac

    Nice catch, looked like fun. Zak, when does the fishing start picking up for 2024, is there a date start time for what you fish for

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks Bradley I appreciate you stopping by and am glad you enjoyed this halibut action! I'm putting my boat in this week so I'll be on the water this weekend! That said, it'll start very slow with some crabbing and very tough halibut fishing. By June, the king season opens up, the halibut fishing gets better and then we are off to the races!!! Thanks again and tight lines! Captain Zac

    Thanks for sharing! What is the largest weighted jig you use with that rod? I see you guys using 👀 16 Oz pounders often. I know you change with the tide current but was wondering about the capability of the rod and weights you need ( max).

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  6 місяців тому

      Hi Charles thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! The largest jig we use is my 24 Fire Eye Glow jig - for especially deep drops or heavy current. captainzacalaska.com/24oz-fire-eye-glow-jig-pro-pack/ Sometimes I'll have even heavier lead on a spreader bar (e.g., 36oz) in extremely heavy current. Thanks and tight lines! Captain Zac

      Hi @paluhansen2452 thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! This is a Daiwa Seaborg 500mj electric fishing reel - intended for very deep water where a conventional reel is less feasible or impossible to use. Thanks and tight lines! Captain Zac
