Nina, this was an extremely interesting video. A chef's life on a yacht is interesting but this backstory on how you learn and improve your skills is really cool. Thanks for the peak between the curtains!
Thank you, I'm really glad to hear this. I wasn't sure if it would be a hit because I think a lot of people just watch because of the yacht content but you have proved otherwise! Merci
A lot of us came from yatch content because of the algorithm, but your enthusiasm and willingness to learn make us happy to stay and discover other topic based videos! ♡

Your videos while on leave are the best! I loved watching you go back to chef's school, go to the fish market, and now this video is the best of all. It's wonderful to watch the suppliers and the pride they have in their products.
I've loved the name "We Supply Yachts" as a company name since I first saw their vans dockside, in Italy, I think, and you said they came all the way from Rotterdam. It says what they do and kinda implies, "You want it? We can get it. But it's gonna cost... you don't care about cost, do you ? 😆" Great Vid!
A very enjoyable video. Food is truly your passion when you're not only learning on your "time off," but you have a smile on your face. Three things that stood out on this great video: 1) Nina lets her hair down! 2) Nina wears an off-the-shoulder top one day, goes into a freezer, and the next day she wears a jacket. 😆 3) Those chocolates! Mmm!
Learning and being nervous in new work = growth! I am so excited to see how you are going to wow the guests with everything you learned. Your level of knowledge is off the chart for all of us in youtube land!
I really like your channel. It’s really refreshing to find someone calm and passionate for what they do. You are inspirational and I am proud of you. I hope that you continue with everything you’re doing and look back on all achievements with the same happiness, you give others. Bless you.
I'm delighted you made this. The practice of stagiaire was such an insight into how you/one might improve their knowledge, skills & repertoire. Your visit to Holland was equally fascinating. I'd love to see more content like this. From a technical perspective - quite how it's possible to produce such high quality food within the confines of a yacht's kitchen is amazing to the casual observer. Kudos. Thanks.
Man!! I need to take a page from your handbook chef!! I have done everything culinary wise except being on a boat. Been in this industry almost 25 years now and you just reminded me of how important it is to go back to basics rehone and recharge...maybe i should call up one of my old buds here in LA and stage at Lucques for a few days. I still man the line most nights so don't count me out yet 😁Thank you for the inspiration again Chef!! oh and i completely get the whole geeking out over the labels thing.
Thank you Nina for sharing this. I am continually heartened that you are always looking to extending your skills as the most dedicated of professionals should. It is, indeed you are a great inspiration to everyone who takes pride in what they do.
That is very good, keeping your skills sharp and up. Writing in areas that we're not as good. Nina your Doing a great job on your channel and motor yacht loon Must be very proud of you
great to see how you stay on top of your game, ages ago I did something similar, a five day Thai cooking course at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, A week with two Michelin star Raymond Blanc at le manoir aux quant saison, five days of fruit carving in Bangkok and so on. Unfortunately my business was geared to a more budget market but I will never forget the experience.
Showing tips on how to be a better private chef, to learning new techniques in your own kitchen. I really enjoyed this video. Definitely need more of these in the “off” season.
Our English Boss also owned his own palace in Oman. He sent his head chef down to the yacht to teach us how to make curry. A total revelation in flavour and ingredients. One time the said to get his coat out the boot of the Rolls, so I went onto the dock with a coat-hanger. He didn't say coat, it was actually a goat. A whole roast goat packed in hay inside a Louis Vuitton travel trunk. I didn't need my "goat-hanger". 😋🐐
Nina, from watching you on Loon and your amazing cooking, this just takes the cake. I loved seeing all this. You're absolutely amazing at your job, and then to be on your vacation time away from Loon your still doing amazing things. I loved seeing all this. I think Hannah is also brilliant at being a chocolatier. When you cut that amazing chocolate with the salted caramel ,oh my gosh. I wanted it. You will have to teach Dean a thing or 2.🤣 Enjoy the rest of your time off. Never change Nina, your absolutely amazing at what you do. 🩷🩷
This video is a goldmine for aspiring yacht chefs. It’s inspiring to see someone so dedicated to their craft. Learning about chocolate-making and the importance of sourcing fresh ingredients is game-changing. This video is a masterclass in culinary ambition. Can’t wait to see what you create next.
Great video, Thanks for sharing. I'm old and beat up now, so these videos remind me of my days in the restaurant. I was on the line, pastries, waiting, and even bartending. I sure miss the life
You are amazing Nina. You already are super talented but you don't shy away from learning new things. Being humble is always the stepping stone for doing greater things in life.
I experienced something similar in 1980 when I was Camp Mgr/chef for a drilling barge 30 miles off the coast of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. I had to feed 53 expat rig workers with a major meal every 6 hours around the clock for a 28 day rotation. Needless to say, although I had a good budget, getting quality product was, to say the least, challenging. I got to meet the vendors on land to see who was on the end of the short wave radio I ordered from. Between the graft, pilfering, spoiled product, bribes and paperwork I had to deal with, it was the hardest, but most satisfying gig ever for a couple of years. That was a tough crowd, as the cook I replaced was threatened with being tossed overboard -and no doubt would have been, ha, had I not showed up. I myself foraged lots of spiny lobsters and the crew were always bringing me reef fish from that unspoiled reef around the coral atoll that was like Paradise.
Watching your video's for the first time( 3th video ), I can see what a kind person you are! It seems like you are exactly where you're meant to be in that kitchen on that yacht ! a great chef and a kind hearted individual . ( i hope you liked our little country ) .
Great video Nina and thanks to Joost for hosting you as a former Yacht Chef I wish there were these types of opportunities for us. I am now 64 so I hung up my apron but still love to cook at home.
Loved this video Nina.I was wondering if you and LOON had a main supplier or just got what you needed at each port. The chocolates yummy! Can't wait to see you give the crew and guest a try on LOON. The sea weed farm and mussel farm I've seen before, but still awesome to see. This coarse and little trip paid by boss man on LOON or self expense. Nevermind that's your own personal knowing. I really enjoy you off LOON and on LOON experiences. Video's are very informative and enjoyable to watch . Enjoy your time off LOON Chef see you next video. CHEERS
