The Oscar that Marisa Tomei won for playing Mona Lisa Vito was EXTREMELY well deserved. Out of all the movies she's been in, this is my absolute favorite

As a trial lawyer with over 30 years in practice I always loved this movie. It has heart, the acting is great, and the courtroom stuff is actually pretty good. I used this for a teaching moment with young attorneys. Marisa Tomei earned her Oscar.
The Lawyer from the Legal Eagle UA-cam channel likes this movie too.
I’ve heard from many sources that it is well used in the classrooms in law school lol I love this movie.
If you've heard of the youtube channel Legal Eagle, he too says its a favorite of his and lawyers in general. And that its normally used for teaching new lawyers.

Absolutely loved Marisa Tomei in this role for which she won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar .
One of those movies you walk out of knowing who would win. Similar to Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs or Tommy Lee Jones in The Fugitive. ICONIC!

@@crawdaddy2004 Yes. The other four nominees were all well-known and respected foreign actresses, which usually guarantees a win (Vanessa Redgrave, Judy Davis, Miranda Richardson, Joan Plowright). And comedic performances usually don't get honored. But Marisa Tomei was just that good.
It's easy to see why everyone fell in love with Marissa Tomei when this came out... Winning the Oscar for supporting actress for a role in a mid/low budget comedy is VERY rare, but so well deserved.
The movie was very successful in theaters and later on home video.
Its so rare, I believe there was even rumors that jack palance read the wrong name and that’s when we all learned just how far price Waterhouse cooper goes to make sure mistakes like that don’t happen. Moonlight showed us in real time what happens when that goes down.

The scene with Lisa slaying them in the court about the cars while she absolutely melts the judge was the best. I also loved that Vinny slept better with the noise in the jail because it sounded like home. Lol.
When I had surgery in my belly, my (SADISTIC) mother, from Brooklyn, sent me this movie to pass the time while I was laid up at home.... do you know how HARD it was for me not to laugh & hurt myself? This is STILL a great fun time.

I can relate. I had a heart surgery and this happened to come on television days afterwards. Talking, breathing, any slight movements were brutal.
Marisa Tomei's character was only supposed to have a very small part, but when the people in charge saw her performance they increased her role. Thank God. She was so excellent in this movie!

The execs wanted to cut the Mona Lisa Vito character from the film, but that decision was made before seeing any performance by Marisa Tomei. No one "increased her role" from the original script. Where are you getting this information that the role started as small but then increased after execs saw Marisa's performance...? Did you just make it up??? That's what I think you did.
My favorite scene in this movie is when Cousin Vinny walks into the cell with both of the "defendants". The double entendre in the conversation is HILARIOUS

How can you not ADORE Marisa Tomei in this well deserved Oscar winning role for her!!!!??
Lawyers love this movie for it's mostly accurate portrayal of how a court room works. Especially the scene where Vinny thinks he tricked the prosecution out of their evidence and Tomei educates him on procedure.
In three years of law school, we watched exactly one movie, in a class on procedure. This was the movie.

The fact that the finale doesn't come down to a jury verdict is refreshing as well.
I can see how this movie is basically "lawyer porn" for attorneys. It operates under every aspiring lawyer's fantasy of the outsider riding into a small town and righting the wrongs of injustice, winning over the townsfolk, being held in contempt, riding into the sunset after your very first case, etc.
Vinny and Atticus Finch (an outsider in other abstract and more serious ways) are prolly series-regulars in the fantasies of many a aspiring lawyer. Lol

What is overlooked is EVERYTHING that MonaLisa says on the witness stand goes through Vinnie's mind when he looks at that picture and writes out to the Sheriff to trace the 1963 Pontiac Tempest.. 😂 Just amazing writing and acting!

Marisa Tomei (Mona Lisa Vito) is an amazing actress. I don't think I've ever seen her in a bad role. She definitely brings her own character to every role I love her!
“The King of Staten Island” was a letdown for me. Her character was in an awkward spot in that movie. It was a garbage role. It’s hard to imagine anyone shining in that role.
Loved her in her first role, on The Guiding Light.

I remember it being cheesy but I remember thinking that I loved the movie because of her and Christian Slater despite the movie itself being slow and predictable. She was pretty nice in The Wrestler, and in Crazy Stupid Love I adored her. She wasn't bad in the Spiderman movies either. I loved Chaplin, and the Ides of March, even The Watcher. She has had a pretty decent career.

This is my favorite law movie ever! It is so so good. Actually several law schools actually make this required watching because it teaches courtroom procedure so well.

This was Marisa Tormei's debut, and she won the Oscar for best supporting actress. By the way, the whole point of him falling asleep in the jail - all the noise reminded him of living in Brooklyn.
She was on as the world turns for a while before she left the soaps to do film debuts. Her friends on the show - Julianne moore and meg Ryan.
It wasn't Tomei's debut. She'd been acting for 9 years and was most notably in the TV shows "As the World Turns" and "A Different World" in the late 80s and in the Stallone movie "Oscar" the year before this. In fact, I believe that I read that she got this role because of her performance in "Oscar."
A year before this she was in Oscar. It's a mob comedy set in the 1930's, starring Sylvester Stallone. It had a great cast. Marissa T. plays his daughter in it. Funny movie.

You know the judge is Herman Munster from the series The Munster's back in the 70's, he was also in the original Pet Cemetery.
Don't forget Car 54, a childhood favorite.
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. When it came out in the theaters, the TV commercials prominently featured “the two youts” scene. That commercial was so memorable and must’ve gotten so many people to go see the movie.
Marissa Tomei deserved her best supporting actress Oscar for this at just the tender age of 19. And, as the previous owner of a 1963 Pontiac Tempest, she nailed it! LOL! Great video and one of my fave movies!
We had a 64 dodge polara. Did not have posi traction. Then we got a 72 Plymouth roadrunner and it did have it. Oh my goodness we had a blast in vacant parking lots that were iced over in the winter

The casting for the film was spot on!
Years after My Cousin Vinny ran the theaters, I drove from Orlando, FL, to Chicagoland. The sun was setting as I entered Chicago, with an hour more driving before reaching my destination. I had driven all day, alone, and I was spent. Suddenly, in front, on the skyline I spotted a big white billboard with one sentence printed in large black font: "What is a yute?"

A nice joke was when Vinny finally got some sleep when he was in the prison because he’s from New York, so the sounds of sirens, screaming, fighting, etc. mad him feel right at home.
Vinnies a city boy. New Yawk. It's the country noises that keep him from sleeping. The prison noises are pretty much like New York city noises, so he sleeps like a baby through that. I lived in a house RIGHT by the railroad tracks. Where it did shake things (not so bad things fall off the shelf) and although it would wake you up in the start, after awhile you get used to it and can sleep right through it, even through the horn blowing when it crosses the intersection.
Our last house had a river running past the end of the garden, and visitors would usually say: "What's that noise?", prompting a "What noise?!" reaction from us. Even where I am now, I've traffic going by below my window in the street outside, but I usually have to think about it to notice it.

When the stuttering lawyer first came up to question the witness, in the background you can see the friend he was defending unable to hold himself and started cracking up. This movie is classic, plus I'm a fan of courtroom procedurals. Not usually the combo films go for but this was the perfect mix💯💯💯.
There was a bit of drama around the stuttering lawyer played by, Austin Pendleton, an actor who actually has a stutter.
When the movie came out it was protested by a group of Stutterers who were upset that a person with a stutter would be so rude as to allow his stutter to be made a joke of. they claimed that the actor who played the role "must have been hard up for the money" to accept.
When asked for comment, the actor said : Fu...Fu...Fu...those guys.

One of the most underrated comedies with an exceptional performance by Marisa Tomei.
Marisa Tomei's character was originally a small part and the studio didn't' want Marisa as she was not very known yet. But John Landis loved her in a movie she did w/ Stallone called Oscar ( a brilliantly funny "mobster" comedy). She got the part, they loved her wrote more stuff for her in the script. She stole the movie and won an oscar... She was brilliant in this, every little expression or roll of the eyes, every word she says.. Just brilliant. She made this movie great.
Fred Gwynne was the actor who played, "Judge Chamberlain". He is most well known for his roles in the 60's comedy TV series, starring as the character Francis Muldoon in "Car 54, Where Are You?". Many will also remember him for starring as "Herman Munster" in the television series, "The Munsters". He passed away just over a year after "My Cousin Vinny" was released.

I was born in the north so to see this reaction to me was priceless. Joe Pesci, who played the lawyer, was really good. Of course not everybody from NY talks like him but his character was a classic example of a New York lawyer. I thought it was hilarious. Seeing your reactions to the movie was really great. Some law schools actually use this film to teach proper courtroom procedures. I love watching first time reactions to this film, and I fall in love with Marisa Tomei all over again each time I see it - especially her Oscar winning performance on the witness stand! For something completely different, I'll recommend the cult classic "Buckaroo Banzai" or, the full title; THE ADVENTURES OF BUCKAROO BANZAI ACROSS THE 8TH DIMENSION (20th Century Fox, 1984), starring Peter Weller, Ellen Barkin, John Lithgow, Jeff Goldblum, etc. - a Sci-Fi Adventure Rom/Com that is over-the-top Eighties.

This is one of my all time favorite movies. Marisa Tomei won an Oscar for her role in this movie, and she totally earned it.

Nobody - They also reviewed 'Dances With Wolves'. The second witness here played the crazy OIC - Officer In Charge - of Fort Sedgewick who drank a lot and shot himself.
As much as Marisa Tomei's testimony was the turning point for the case, I still give it to Joe Pesci to have been able to look at the images she took & also see what the discrepancy was without her assistance, and then realize how important her knowledge would be to win the case. If he hadn't known about cars, he would not have been able to see why the marks were so relevant, which eventually got her excited on the stand when she saw it. They were a dynamic duo.
Also the irony that it was one of the photos that he ridiculed when he was stressed out earlier in the cafe.
The director Jonathan Lynn has a law degree from Cambridge University and that's why this movie is super accurate when it comes to legal proceedings. Professors used to show this movie to law students to see if they could point out the inaccuracies which was like 3% inaccuracies.
This is the funniest movie ever. It was one of my late husband's very favorites!! Marisa Tomei got an Oscar for her superb performance. She was priceless. If you did not watch the full movie, you really should. It was almost a parody of "Southern vs "yankees". The Judge , Fred Gwynne, player Herman Munster in the "Munsters" series in the 60's. There are so many really funny parts that you couldn't include in your reaction. Great pick, guys.
In my Legal Ethics class, the Professor asked to pick a movie from her list, I picked My Cousin Vinny (one of my favorite movies) and identify and write about the legal failures that occurred throughout the movie. I had so much fun doing this assignment!
This movie is an absolute STAPLE for all law school students. Lawyers absolutely LOVE this movie. This is considered one of the BEST movies for law students to study. Seriously!

For more Joe Pesci (who plays Vinny) please react to “Goodfellas”. One of my top 3 movies, and one of the best movies ever made, by the great Martin Scorsese. Yes, Goodfellas is a little tougher to watch (especially for Amber), but a lot of the greats are. You’ll also get to see Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, Paul Sorvino and Lorraine Bracco do their thing.

Now Time to get serious and watch one of the best movies ever! The Godfather 1 and 2 might be the best movie and sequel ever made.
26:16 Flying Superman punch. 😅 Another hilarious feelgood comedy you will probably love is 'Midnight Run' (1988). It is a buddy/road, action comedy about a bounty hunter trying to deliver a high bond mafia witness who is marked for death. From same director as Beverly Hills Cop. Stars Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin.

This was sooooooooooooo fun. I loved being able to relive this movie from someone who has never seen it. There is always that old story about how Marissa won the Oscar "accidentally" and by mistake, but rewatching this with you guys sure does show how great a job she did.
I think I didn't see this movie until it started running on commercial television, and I was shocked by how much I loved it.

I watched a lawyer do a reaction to this movie. He said they auctally use this movie in class as it's the perfect training vehicle. It's pretty close to perfect as far as trial litigation goes. Great reaction kids.

Another popular courtroom movie that same year is A Few Good Men starring Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, Kevin Bacon, Jack Nicholson, etc... There's also Scent of a Woman starring Al Pacino that has sort of a courtroom-like scene (ideal for Thanksgiving).
The judge is played by the guy who played Herman Munster in the Munster's tv show.

The judge was played by Fred Gwynne who became most famous in the 60's for two sitcoms: "Car 54, Where Are You" and (most famously) as Herman Munster in "The Munsters"
Ralph Macchio is a must see in Karate Kid and I know you will love it. I just finished watching season 5 of Cobra Kai and the writers are clever how they even use some My Cousin Vinny "easter eggs" as well as other movies. This is such a fun movie. One of my favorite movies with Marissa Tomei is Untamed Hearts. A must see movie that is seldom reacted to is August Rush. You will love it and I know Amber will cry at the end. I have seen it multiple times and cry every time. If you love music you will love the movie. One of my favorite lines from the movie is "Music is everywhere you just have to listen".
Untamed Heart takes place in Minnesota and Marisa Tomei is the only actor who bothered to get the the accent right.
Anything Marisa Tomei touches is automatically gold. I utterly adore her.
One of the things I love about this movie I think one of you mentioned it that the comedy is woven into the storyline. Like the ending with just Vinny and Lisa where she says you know and then you’ll have to say thank you for someone for helping you what a nightmare! The other thing I really liked about this movie were that the witnesses Really thought that these two guys had murdered the clerk. They weren’t lying they weren’t making anything up, they believed what they testified to. It’s Vinny, with Lisa‘s help that just had to solve the puzzle. I’m glad you liked it. There’s some other really good movies kind of like this one. My big fat Greek wedding, Liar liar is a really funny one, two of my favorite comedies are from the 80s. One is called ruthless people, the movie stars Danny Devito, Bette Midler, Judge Reinhold (from fast times at Ridgemont high,) and Helen Slater. The other one is called Soapdish. This movie has Robert Downey Jr., Sally Field, Whoopie Goldberg, Gary Marshall. This movie is about soap operas. And how sometimes real life can imitate a soap opera. I think it’s pretty funny, I think you’ll be able to get the references from the 80s. Loved your reaction!
I'm all for them watching Soapdish. I wish more channels would react to it. Kevin Kline is so good in this film--his teleprompter scene is hilarious.
Funny when you saw how "little" Joe Pesci was but probably partly because the Judge whom he shared the scene with, (Fred Gwyn) is a gigantic man.

So, I was a kid when this movie came out and over the years, I just never got around to watching it even though I had heard SO MUCH about it. Finally, a few weeks ago I got around to watching it on streaming and was blown away. It was obviously Marisa Tomei's breakout role but all the roles were just pitch perfect. It was such a better movie than I was expecting, so much smarter, so well written and crafted. It was funny, tender, complicated, unique. I've never seen a movie quite like it. Almost all of it holds up beautifully today (other than the speech impediment scene). No one was a blank stereotype, everyone was reasonable and fleshed out when they so easily in a lesser movie would've been caricatures and stereotypes. Just class through and through.
From Mona Lisa Vito to Aunt May in Spider-Man, Marisa Tomei has had quite the acting career.

Depending on what movies you've seen Joe Pesci in, the scene in the bar with the dude for the $200 has two completely different possible outcomes in your mind. Home Alone Joe Pesci goes one way, Goodfellas and Casino Joe Pesci goes a very, very different way. Hope you'll check out the latter two at some point.

Abother fun, great movie where the underdog rises to the top is 1988's "WORKING GIRL" starring Melanie Griffith, Sigourney Weaver (Alien), Harrison Ford (Star Wars, Indiana Jones) & Joan Cusack, who won Supporting Actress Oscar. One of my favorites. Funny, inspiring, great cast & heavy dose of NYC & New York accents which I, myself have. You 2 will really enjoy this film as well.

this was another movie where a character , Mona Lisa in this case, was costumed with such completeness that the character became large than life and so complete. She was the total package.
Joe Pesci was one of the robbers in Home Alone 1 and 2 great reactions for Christmas time.He was also in the Lethal Weapon 2,3,4 with Danny Glover and Mel Gibson
A idea for a future watch is a really different and fun Jim Carey movie called The Truman Show. It a a comedy drama with a sprinkle of sci-fi. It was nominated for several awards and it leaves you with hope.
The judge also played the legendary character Herman Monster in the legendary sitcom of the 70 ' sand 80's " The Monsters"
This was one of my dad’s favorite movies! I could hear him laugh thru out the house.
