    Hi there. I’m kinda struggling and would appreciate your help. I’m looking to paint my living room, which is west-facing and has grey laminate floors. My furniture, however, is more on the warmer side (caramel coloured sofa, wood table, etc.). Any tips would be appreciated!

      Most people opt for an off-white color as a no brainer solution. In your case, if you pick a color with a grey undertone to it, you may possibly accentuate even more the warmer tones of your furniture. If that's not a desirable situation for you, then I suggest you go for a more neutral off white like Chantilly Lace. However, if I were you I would look into other color options like beige hues. Here's the link to an article I wrote about my go-to beige shades you might find useful. te-esse.com/2021/12/my-top-5-benjamin-moore-beige-paints.html
      In fact, take a closer look at Nature's Essentials; it's a truly beautiful beige shade that might work for you best. xx

    Hi,
    There are so many whites to choose from! I am looking specifically Benjamin Moore. I definitely do not want any yellow or creaming undertones at all. I’m fine with a slight grey undertone but not too blue. I’m recoloring my walls in one room because I want to start filming videos. I don’t want something that is too white - for instance if I was wearing white clothing I wouldn’t want to camouflage right into the walls. Right now, I am debating between Chantily Lace, Super White, and White. Also, it is a room that is in front of the house, it has a big window so it receives quite a lot of light in the day time. Please let me know what you’d recommend. Thanks in advance!
    No undertone would be famtastic

      Since you have plenty of natural sunlight, then I would recommend White Heron. It is less creamy than Chantilly Lace. But in all honestly, I would consider a grey-ish off white like Classic Grey; so even if you wear a white outfit, it won't wash you off.

    2. A south west facing bedroom, one window
    both rooms have Shaw, desert light carpet (neutral color)

      I wish I had more information to give you a more thorough reply. Still, here are some basic guidelines that should stir you in the right direction. When you paint the walls and ceiling of a room in the same paint bright color then, it will appear bigger.
      Also, architectural and/or accent features on the opposite end walls of a room can create a sense of an "extended" room. For instance, if you have an oversized mirror resting on the ground of the one end or the room and a wall washing effect on the opposite room end, then you will have a room that feels so much bigger. The key is to keep the opposite ends of a room as bright as possible AND manipulating the light back into the room itself (light bounce). You don't want the tunnel effect (bright at ends, dark in middle).
      I have posted a cheatnote with several room paint variations and their effects here: te-esse.com/2015/11/home-improvements-chapter-4-accents-walls-vs-ceilings.html
      Hope this helps...Let me know if you need further help!

    I am looking for a very light gray without any undertones. Most of the grays are too blue or too cream. Someone suggested Paper White. I am pairing with a light gray couch and dark floors - want something to brighten the room.

    • @velvetkaratzasteessebyvelv7114
      @velvetkaratzasteessebyvelv7114  4 роки тому +1

      That's an interesting question. Paper White is indeed a grayish off white, but it does have some blue undertones to it. Instead, I would suggest Silver Satin OC-26 or Gray Owl OC-52. Gray Owl is a tad bit darker than Silver Satin but it reads really well in a sun-lit room. If you don't have too much natural sunlight throughout the day+year, then go for Silver Satin. In any case, both of these two are far more neutral than Paper White (because they hardly have any distinct undertones).
      Of course, you could also go for Classic gray OC-23, but it's a bit more creamy than the other two I proposed. So do check these out and see what fits you best. If you're still not sure then ask me again. :)

    Hi there
    Could you please recommend a white or grey for my sons room. His furniture is a weathered oak and his bedding his a modern black and white graphic. We have one wall with a black brick on it. We are looking for a white as he would like to,add some black and grey lines to his walls. Our carpet in a tan coloured beige. Also he has an upholstered charcoal bed ( ideally he is going for a black white and grey bedroom....teenagers) I have painted his room 4 times and driving me crazy to say the least. The room faces north and just a wee bit east with a window measuring 3 feet x 4 feet. I painted his room paper white and it turned ice blue, then painted collingwood..it turned pink, mauve, next was cliffside grey..it looked light blue, lastly I paint gladden white just to bring the walls back to light. I have sample on foam board Sherwin Williams repose grey/ looked purple, agreeable grey looked green, the big chill looked purple, tempered grey and silver chain turned purple, On the rocks ..I forget what was room with that one as I am going GRAZY Benjamin Moore stonington grey and grey owl looked green. Classic grey looked purplish . I know this is overwhelming. So I recommendation for a good ole grey that I can accent with white and black or second option I was moving toward white walls and that appears to be about as insane as grey. But with white walls, we want something that looks white( so he can accent with black and grey) that looks white, not yellow even when you turn the lights off. Any insight would be greatly appreciated😊

      I think Simply White would work really well in a north facing room, because it does have a creamy effect to it despite its blue undertone. Therefore, it will feel more luscious and gentle on the eye as opposed to say Heron White. xx

    • @velvetkaratzasteessebyvelv7114

      In many projects I use an off-white with a soft yellowish undertone AF-30 Deep in Thought. I find that as the time goes by, doors and their trims when painted a pure white paint color will turn yellowish, especially when exposed to strong sunlight. So, I'd rather begin with an off-white that looks really soft and behaves better in the long run.

    Hi, please help me. I have a modern house facing north. The entry is also north. Which is the most luxorious white ? For trims I used middle antracit grey. @velvetkaratzasteessebyvelv7114  3 роки тому +1

      Chantilly Lace may work really well for that luxurious feel, yet a house facing north may work better with Simply White. That's because north facing rooms have a uniform, even, but darker light coming through. Hence, Chantilly Lace won't shine off its full potential.

    Thank you for the video! I like the way you explain colors. It's very soothing and professional. I am going to use simply white for ceiling, trim and cabinet. Cloud white for overall main wall, moonlight white for bedroom and sea pearl for master bedroom. Do you think it's good combination of off white colors? House will be facing north so the lighting won't be ideal.

    • @velvetkaratzasteessebyvelv7114
      @velvetkaratzasteessebyvelv7114  4 роки тому +1

      You're most welcome. Sounds like you have a good plan worked out, but please not that Simply White will read darker on the ceiling as opposed to Cloud White on your wall. In other words, your ceiling will appear darker and hence, "heavier." If that's what you're after then, go ahead. Also, since the house is facing North then, Simply White will work really well for you because it's just creamy enough to appear gentle and not stark. Hope this helps in your final decision making. Best of luck, xx

      Thank you for your kind remarks! Now, if I were you I would go for Chantilly Lace matte and Simply White for the trims (because they will yellow with time). It's a good choice since you do want that art gallery effect. Yes it is a bit like a primer, but softer on the eye in a pleasant way. Therefore, you will achieve the effect you're after. :)

    Hi i have a basement with barely any sunlight has just 1 window, i need to brighten the room as it always looks dark. What white paint do u recommend? Is chantily lace good? It has 2 light fixtures on the ceilings like in bedrooms

    • @velvetkaratzasteessebyvelv7114
      @velvetkaratzasteessebyvelv7114  3 роки тому

      Chantilly Lace will shine off its full potential when you have a well sunlit room. Therefore, I would go for Simply White instead. However, do play around with the paint's finish. Don't go for a flat one. Try the glossy one, especially for the ceiling so that part of the sheen can bounce around the room. And of course, an oversized mirror may also help in creating the illusion of a brighter room. Moreover, consider using light fixtures with more than a couple of lamps. In other words, you need to increase the output of your light sources. There are many ceiling lights and/or suspension lights that feature a minimum of three lamps. But, don't go for spotlights for these will keep your ceiling in the dark, and a dark ceiling means a dark room. Hope these tips help you.

    What is your recommendation among the whites you mentioned for a low sunlight or very low natural light small condo? I hope you reply. Thank you. New subscriber here.

    • @velvetkaratzasteessebyvelv7114
      @velvetkaratzasteessebyvelv7114  3 роки тому +5

      Honestly, my home has also low sunlight. Therefore, I have used Simply White. The reason for that is because it a) not too stark to make me feel uncomfortable or project my furniture in an awkward way, b) just the right amount of cream toned to be soft on the eye, c) feels very contemporary and d) dates well. The last time I painted my walls (aside from my furnishing updates) was over a decade ago and I haven't regretted it for a single moment.
      Do note though, that when a space has very low natural light it is best to employ color paint finished with a sheen. The flat finish won't reflect much light. So if I were you I would go for the eggshell or pearl finish on the walls and the satin or semi-gloss for the ceiling. Your choice of paint finish can make all the difference IN THE WORLD!
      Hope this helps! Happy holidays and stay well,
      Velvet

      @velvetkaratzasteessebyvelv7114  4 роки тому +1

      I know I could like to help you better if you told me which white you bought. In any case, I usually recommend the satin finish. That's because white is the most reflective color of all. As such, generally speaking, I do not recommend a glossy finish that may result in glare effects when it comes to white. I reserve a glossy finish for a ceiling or small spaces like a dark corridor or restroom. Therefore, try Simply White or White Heron in a satin or even eggshell finish and see during which one works for you best. Let me know if you need more help. :)

Thus, in the morning it will look really easy going on the eye highlighting your grey kitchen without overshadowing it; and from lunch time onwards it won't go orange-y on you. That way, it will look contemporary and up-to-date all day and night long time too. xo

    My room has east and west facing windows, so not a lot of light enters the room at times. The flooring is somewhat oak, and the doors are walnut. Do you mind recommending some white paint options?

      Simply White is a fail-proof color and I'm sure it won't fail you. Note that Ikea white furniture (like most white furniture for that matter) tend to acquire a more creamy appearance over time. Their crisp white softens from exposure to natural light over time. Therefore, Simply White is perfect. If however, you want to get a tad bit bolder for a bit more edginess then I recommend Classic Gray. It has a more cool toned appearance that will juxtapose nicely with the white-creamy look of the furnishing and flooring. Let me know how it works out for you. xo

      I left it out simply because Brilliant White does not work in any part of the world. For instance, it is way too bright for the Mediterranean region. You see, I tried to pick my favorite ones based on which is generally safe to go to with the least bit of error possible. There instances where I have used it, but not as much as the others because of the intensity of natural light I had to work with. Hope this clarifies things for you...xo

      I personally love “cotton balls” for walls, trim & cabinetry in a bathroom- flooring - it’s been one of the most asked about colors I’ve ever used- shocking - it’s astonishingly beautiful in a west facing room - any and all undertones stay away in any light - it’s just a magical white -very clean, pure and it’s so flattering -not stark- but the trick is to paint ceiling walls and cabinets no chalky ceiling paint color it blows it - I only use Benjamin Moore Aura for bathrooms- same finish on walls and ceilings- Satin finish for trim, cabinets, doors.

      @velvetkaratzasteessebyvelv7114  4 роки тому +1

      If your family room and kitchen don't have much natural light then, there are two approaches. The first approach is to choose a neutral off white that has a warm undertone. Simply white is the one for this job. It's the one I turn to in a situation as this, because it's very neutral and soft to the eye that the wood stains are of no big importance.
      The other approach is to embrace a much moodier and saturated color to make the room feel warmer. But it's harder to make it work (for your home furnishings matter a lot). So most people opt for the first approach.
      But more importantly, I think it's important to establish the sun exposure of your room. For North facing rooms I recommend warm undertones. However, what got me confused is the part where you mention that you have sunlight in the afternoon. That suggests a western exposure and in a room like that then you need a color with blue undertones.
      Maybe this link will help you clarify things on choosing colors based on your natural light orientation: te-esse.com/2019/03/how-to-choose-the-right-color-based-on-natural-light-orientation.html

    • @velvetkaratzasteessebyvelv7114
      @velvetkaratzasteessebyvelv7114  4 роки тому +1

      Since all off-whites are governed by their undertones, it only follows that White Dove will be governed by its grey-greenish undertone too. However, the intensity of that greenish undertone is governed by the room's orientation in terms of sunlight (i.e. Northbound), the reflective surfaces found in the room (eg. flooring, glass, marble), the paint finish and last but not least, the overall color palette used. In every case though, there many more off-whites with other undertones that may be of your liking.
