My friends' new base cabinets are in a custom color very similar to Blue Nova. It was mixed to match the backsplash tile. The counters are white quartz and the upper cabinets are stark white. Very modern coastal - there is a water view from the great room. I'll let them know that they are ahead of the curve :)
On purple, my husband picked a really pale purple for our bedroom (called Globe Thistle) and a brighter warmer purple for his office (called Lavish Lavender) and they are magnificent. Purple is such an inspiring, magical color (in the right shades), and it's perked up these spaces so nicely. Would absolutely recommend. Purple doesn't have to mean jewel toned or little girl cotton candy.
Interesting! Do you recall if those purple shades were by Pittsburgh Paints, or Sherwin-Williams or? I am seeing those color names by more than one paint company, not surprising - many thanks!
Hi Nick, I just wanted to say that I subscribe to about 15 interior designers, but your channel is by far my favorite. I love your taste in design, your great suggestions, how concise your videos are, but most of all I just enjoy your naturalness, acerbic humor and your heart. 😊❤️
I "color drenched" my hallway about 20 years ago because it was a small hallway with lots of doors. I thought painting all those frames a contrasting color would make it seem busy, and also, I hate white ceilings. Who knew I was ahead of the trend? Certainly not me! 😂
When using a light color in a small space I think it makes sense. I painted one small bathroom sort of a ballerina pink (with glitter added because I think it is fun), I painted the walls and ceiling. It looks very nice. I painted the baseboards white, though they do need to be repainted, I made a mistake with the type of caulk I used. You were ahead of your time!
I need to paint a small wall in a tiny toilet under the stairs (removed a radiator and patched the wall and love the colour that’s in there) and it occurred to me that the ceiling is already the colour of the walls and I ought to go ahead and paint the baseboards the same… it would help with the small space.
To me, color drenching looks like the "Landlord Special", where the owner just indiscriminately paints over everything in sight with one bucket, from ceiling to baseboards... light switches and outlets included! 😅
Loved your analysis in this one. Helpful. On the advice of the Southern Living design editor, I selected Ben Moore's "Ivory White" as the perfect warm white in every light. He was right! I "drenched" my whole house in it before I knew drenching was a thing. Thanks for your insight. You are very enjoyable.

When I saw the colour of the year I was so disappointed. I am not a fan of blue (green lover!) and I really don’t like Blue Nova, so I dismissed the entire palette. But seeing you break it down, and introduce the colours on their own, completely changed my opinion. I love the pink tones, the deep oranges and the green. Thank you for another great video, and for helping me understand the thinking behind the way the palette was conceived!
You must be thrilled with the great variety of greens in clothing. It must be hard to decide which to buy. I wasn’t ever a fan of green, but I am loving it now!
I am with you. Not a fan of blues, love the greens and the pinks. I wasn't surprised when Blue Nova was chosen. When Sherwin Williams chose Upward, it was a sign. I love the combination of pristine and antique pewter
The best $300 I ever spent was for a color consultant for my townhouse. She picked a light golden yellow for my living and dining rooms when she saw my MCM tourquoise pottery collection and artwork and teak and similar color furniture, and the way the light shifts over the day. I would never have figured it out by myself, but I haved loved her choice every day. Picking paint based at least partly on the things you love and will keep, and how it will look in different parts of a room in different light makes sense to me, based on how well it turned out for me.
If you’re a designer, it doesn’t matter what you like/dislike, it’s up to your client. Of course, you can guide them… I really liked how he talked about Topaz + White Dove working with wood flooring/furnishings. Taking flooring into consideration is HUGE. Also, doing a video on what color of flooring is best for your room, lighting, etc., would be a great video, so many choices these days! I’m new to the channel, will look back to see if he’s already done that.
I don't know why purple is considered a hard colour to work with in interior design. I love purple - more specifically purple leaning mauve colours. I find them calming and one of my favorite colours to use and a good compliment with grey! We are actually redoing our bedroom and using Mauve Blush by Benjamin Moore for the walls

I see a lot of hate for color drenching BUT I personally love it!! It feels seamless to me and I think it looks amazing with intricate crown molding. I’ll definitely be doing this in my 60’s deco condo 😍 I’m thinking with a muted sage color, gold/brass accents and a bunch of interesting vintage furniture and decor finds ❤
This is my kind of palette. I love soft, desaturated colors, and always warm neutrals. I’m always and forever a soft ivory girl. That’s been my indoor color for over 20 years…so yeah…I’m either dedicated or boring, but I love it. My shade now is less warm/buttery than it was in 2000, so it’s more creamy white…that’s updated for me! Dove White’s always popular. I just change up decor with pops of seasonal color. I will never, ever, ever…live in anything cool, and gray, especially on my walls! You’re right, Nick…this year’s palette is soft, balanced, cohesive…last year was so disjointed & jarring! Only color I liked on it was the Tofino Sunset. That might have been pretty and an interesting “color neutral” in a room…though I’d still just be admiring it from afar, in my warm ivory room. :)
**oops correction, meant “White Dove” above. “Dove White” was actually my color in 2000/ California paints. I wish I’d done White Dove when I repainted in 2019, somehow I only discovered it after we painted, and after I painstakingly perused every ivory! I think I saw it and when it wasn’t like my old Dove White, went over it. I got close with Mountain Peak White, Benjamin Moore, but White Dove does seem softer, a tad warmer.
Purple can easily work. When I loved with my niece (we're near the same age) we had purple (her favorite color) and green (my favorite color) in spades. It worked beautifully. Tons of wood furniture and black matted metal accents with warm off-white walls kept it cozy but still pretty.
All the colors represented are lovely. I particularly like the Pristine/Topaz/Teacup Rose combination, and the Polar Sky/Blue Nova, as well. But again, they're all very pretty and an improvement, I think, over last year's choices.
I love how cohesive everything is this year and how well it could go with last year’s colors. Personally, I’m a saturated color person so I don’t like these colors but I can appreciate that people want color without the loud commitment.
I like mixing cool and warm colors together. My new scheme after this reno is done will be warm beige and greys( imagine softer tones of Honybee and Gray together on white fabric for curtains and throw rugs) natural maple cabinets, dark granite counters, honey bamboo floors. Some family antiques in dark wood.
Not a fan of color drenching . However , I do paint outlets & switches the wall color to blend in . Years ago when wallpaper was prominent , I did outlet covers & switch plates in the wallpaper ( again , to blend in ) even to the point of lining up the patterns , then a matching color on the actual outlet if needed . Obsessive ? Perhaps ... but the finished " smooth " look , no visual speed bumps , was worth it ! 🖌🎨
I'd love to hear you talk more in this manner about color theory & color matching. I found it so interesting the way you reviewed the colors and gave us the theory background with your opinions. I most likely will rewatch this video, but hope you make more.
My favorite has to be the Antique Pewter. I'm a sucker for a good green. I'm looking to redo the walls in our living room and dining room - right now we have this dark wood paneling. I want to go with a slightly warm greige and I think White Dove would be a great ceiling and trim color. I would love to fit in the Antique Pewter somewhere but not sure where it would go yet.
For me, brown is just dark orange, like burgundy is dark red and navy is dark blue. Love the blues - Blue Nova and Polar Sky. I’m not a fan of all white walls, but Pristine looks like a color for me to consider for my walls.
I just painted my 500sq foot living room a very bold blue (I would say a bit more similar to last years starry night). The room has a vaulted ceiling with walls 10' to 16' tall. I have large chunky white trim lots of windows and a big white fireplace and a couple of big white bookshelves. I have accented with black leather and wood furniture (leaning towards the topaz warm brown) and lots of plants. So to say I am a fan of the blue and the topaz would be an understatement. I think these colours are gorgeous this year! I would actually love to submit photos or videos for Nick to critique!
i’ve lived in many houses and have come to think: just paint your house what color you want even if each room is a different color. i try to color flow but always end with what works for me. got to make me happy
Omg. Finally! After suffering through the grey years and not buying anything, I can once again enjoy interior design. I have Benjamin Moore paint colours everywhere in my home because they have the best colours.
I'm thinking about "Color Drenching" in my family room renovation and now feel like I may have the courage to do so. I also have been looking at a cream-olive/moss color scheme so I was absolutely thrilled when Nick said he loved the Pristine-Antique Putty pairing. Whoo Hoo! Now I'm getting excited to really get going on my project!! Thanks Nick! :D
The great thing about paint is that it can make such a huge impact and if you wind up not liking something, it's easily undone. The Antique Pewter is such a beautiful color. Good luck and have fun!
I like these colors! I actually really like Honeybee. I feel like it could look really cool in a more retro space. I also like Pristine. I think peachy off whites don’t get enough love. Especially since n north-facing rooms or rooms with fewer windows, an off white with a slightly peach undertone in an eggshell finish can give the illusion of more sunlight bouncing around the room. Whereas if you painted the same room a cool-toned color or even a stark white it could look cold or sterile and a more brown toned off white could make it look dirty. (I’m also a fan of Sherwin Williams Ibis White for this reason. Painted a north-facing room this once and it immediately brightened it up.)
Would love to see a room designed using hazy lilac and antique pewter. Those two colors are so refreshing to me. A nice change from the beige onslaught we have been dealing with.
For me, this year's colors are much more livable than last year's, even though some of the colors are similar. I especially like Antique Pewter, it behaves almost as a neutral, doesn't it? I like when you can't clearly identify color as "grey", "green", "brown", etc., but is rather like a blend. Great video, as usual. Thank you.
12:57 Hazy Lilac is absolute perfection!!… Im also a color nerd by design profession, so I can appreciate your commentary. This is by far my favorite Nick topic.
This palette spoke to me. I’ve been using white dove a lot as I’m working my way through renovating the house. A blue similar to blue nova went on the bedroom and office walls. Polar blue went into the kids room. Accent pieces have been painted similar to topaz. All that is missing is my soft green, but the yellow has a similar feel.
I'm very much of the same mind. I still really like a lot of the 2021 and 2022 colours, but 2024 also looks really cohesive! I like how soft everything is
Blue is my jam! We gutted and designed our kitchen with Smoky Blue cabinets, installed Cambria counter tops in the Montgomery pattern. Its coming up on a year and I adore that blue. We brought our 1963 kitchen back to life!
Thank you, dear Nick, for sharing your well versed dialogue of the 2024 colors. I’m a warm gal in Alabama and have had three of the “new” warm shades (different names) on my walls for several years. I truly love seeing the new shades dictated each year and left curious as to how many coats of paint followers have on their walls- those who want to be on trend each year. I’m convinced to do a refresh of same colors and paint trim too. My husband will be not so thrilled when I tell him. Thanks again for keeping your viewers on trend. I adore your channel!
I know this is directed to interior design colors, but I think it could be applied to fashion as well. I love using the color wheel to put analogous or opposite colors together in an outfit. Thanks for the analysis!
I looooove that children’s room. THAT is joy to me! Thanks for explaining the color choices and how they intermingle on the wheel , it made so much more sense. The rooms showing how well the combined colors within the same space were much more pleasing to me without the colors being intensely pigmented. We don’t all want our living room screaming at us when we are trying to shake off a stressful day.
I literally just bought an orange tone much like the Topaz you showed for my bedroom and a rich brown named Turkish Coffee that I fell in love with for my living room. I do prefer a more traditional paint scheme of trim being lighter than my walls and the honey bee is similar to the color I chose for my kitchen and was agonizing over what tone to use for my trim, think the white dove will compliment all of my color choices, Thank You Nick I always have fun with your way of presenting your videos.
The comment about the Hazy Lilac being cooler and having a little bit of grey doesn't make it scream "Grimace" had me cracking up! 🤣 Please, y'all, tell me someone else caught that and knows who Grimace is (or was, since I'm pretty sure he's long retired).
For the last 20 years, I have moved several times. However, Benjamin Moore's Yin Yang 824 is my bedroom color always and latest Chantilly Lace is my baseboards, doors, and ceiling. Love, love, love waking up to this color. So serene.
It makes me happy to see your enthusiasm about color; I could listen to you talk about color theory all day! What was that thing you touched on, "hex code" or something? I didn’t quite catch what you said. A thing you can plunk colors into and it shows them to you on the colorwheel? You said you didn't want to bore us with the details and I'm like, "please, please do!" *I would love a video on that please!* I love so many colors, it's almost excruciating to choose one, and then choose another one to go with the first one. Ugh! I definitely like this year's pallette over last year, but I do like the blues in each. I really liked 2021's pallette too. I'd love to see more content on color and how to put them together, and under what type of lighting, please, please, please! You're amazing at explaining!
This is a wonderful video, one of your best as you explain the color and your appreciation of it. I just shared it right now. Getting better and better every day, Nick. Thanks so much.
I didn't know there were colors of the year, lol. Yellow is my favorite. For wall paint, I prefer a calm yellow, I don't want to have to wear sunglasses around my home. I don't get tired of it, mainly because lots of other colors go with it. :)
Love your videos! I don't generally care about trends, most of the stuff in my house was my parents. That said, I really dislike grey and I am so happy to see the colors finally warm up. I do like both last years colors and this years, I think you could mix the two. I bought my house in2008 and the owners had remodeled it, while they did a great job the paint colors had a grey tinge, which I didn't like. This is the first time I've found colors that I want to use to repaint.
At first when I saw the Blue Nova come through in their announcement of Color of the Year I was disappointed. But, seeing the whole palette together has me much more excited about the possibilities. Certainly as you painted out it feels more balanced than last year’s palette and opens up a lot of possibilities.
Colour drenched my bedroom in Essex Green and it’s my cozy sleepy cave. 10/10 want to hibernate there over the winter. Helps in the summer too when it’s light out til nearly midnight (yay for being 53 degrees north).
After living in bland, white-walled rentals, I went a little overboard experimenting with color in my first home. Painted a fun trend in the bathroom, which was easy enough to change once I tired of it. Also re-painted the kitchen when I discovered that "sunny" yellow made me feel the opposite of sunny. But I also learned what I really like and what works for me. Now I'm much better at choosing colors that still make me happy years and years later, regardless of what's fashionable. And it sure saves time, labor, and materials when you're not painting every couple years. Paint companies are in business to sell paint. Of course they want you to keep updating your colors.
Great analysis, Nick-- one of your best videos yet. I love topaz, especially as paired with the wood tones in the staircase photo. Laughing to myself as I used several similar colors from this pallet when decorating my living room in 2022.
I was NEVER allowed to paint any walls when I was growing up because we rented. When I bought my first house at 28, I went nuts and painted every room a different color. I miss it 😂. Im definitely a blue girly though. I love a pretty blue on any wall, in any room
This year‘s palette also seems to complement last year‘s palette pretty well. You can pick any one of the bolder colors from the 2022 Benjamin Moore palette and combine it with the more muted colors of this year’s palette.
Love your choices ! I too have the same bedroom color & also a variation of it paired w/ some soft sage green & cream thruout the house . Living in the country , I like bringing the outside colors inside - blue sky , green trees , wood tones . Soothing ... 💙💚🤎
I really love that regent green. I have these emerald green velvet curtains and really love the way they go with the original trim in my 90s house. One half of the living area is painting matte black with some ashy tones. I got a rug with some rust looking red and it has green in it that I wanted to pull onto the other half of the living area to pull togrthet the black walls, the emerald curtains and the rug. So that is almost perfect! Im glad i didn't settle for a paint choice and waited. I really love it.
I love Benjamin Moore’s 2024 COTY palette! It’s so grounded, and balanced, as you mentioned. It just makes so much more sense than some of the previous years. Nick, thank you for your in-depth analysis of the COTY palette.
I’d be interested in you own palette choices for this year- what colors would you pick - where would they ideally fit? What home decor products would you color or not - just for fun
I believe Cloud White is BM's most sold colour here in Canada, mostly because it's used for cabinets, ceilings, and baseboards, but Dove White is close behind. (I worked at BM during the Revere Pewter years.)
I love this palette! I am buying my first house and this speaks really well to the moodboards I have, especially blue nova, Antique pewter, teacup rose and pristine.
I really like this year’s colors. I love the teacup rose and polar sky are gorgeous. All, of the colors seem more sustainable over time as well. Thanks, Nick, I always love your videos!
Thanks, Nick. I really enjoy your videos. Farrow and Ball have been "colour drenching" for the past few years. They suggest doing the trim in a slight sheen of the same colour (if desired).
Somewhere I've seen a beautiful photo of a blue room with lilac curtains and it was STUNNING. I wonder if Blue Nova and Hazy Lilac would work the same way.
I am really liking the antique pewter. I think it could provide a good base for a number of different styles of furnishings. I am not normally a big fan of gray, but this is green enough that it seems fresh and interesting. And it looks as if it would also make a great accent wall in a multi neutral environment.
I thought the 2024 palette was pleasant, but hearing you break it down makes me really enjoy it! Being a constant renter with roommates and having to work/live in one room has prevented me from getting to play around with paint color. But I am moving next summer to a more spacious place, and I can already envision incorporating some of these! Green is usually my default color, but I love the purple and topaz in this.
Personally, I like burt orange/redish colors. I'm not sure if I would pain a whole room that color. I'm with you, Nick. This years paint colors are softer/less saturated. I might give the teacup pinkish color a try. 😊
Color drenching was very popular back in the 50’s and 60’s. I remember when my parents painted their living room apartment in the Bronx a light Caribbean blue.
90% of the time these “ colours of the year” really don’t take off too quickly. I work in cabinetry, you really get to see which colours designers are loving and working with IRL. It’s more like “ colours of the decade” VS “of the year”
Agree. Evergreen fog and urbane bronze. Don’t have them in my house but love looking at the colors.
I'd love to see your six most selected colours of the decade; now that would be cool!

Are you kidding? Just about every new house has some form of hideous green either on the cabinets or the walls.
This is always my favourite video of the year and the fact that the "sad beige children" had a cameo made it even better!!
I actually love the teacup rose paired with antique pewter. I love all these colors. That dusty, muted quality is soft and cozy.

Gosh I remember that. Back in the 1970's first apartment vibe. lol
Exactly! In my rental house everything has been painted gray, just not the outlets. 😮
Reminds me of older school buildings. They’d do the same!
Antique pewter is gorgeous.. I’m with you, okay to be stuck in 2021 for this. Great video Nick
I'd like to paint my great room that color or one similar! Might make it feel less cavernous. It would also look good in the kitchen portion.
Antique pewter is very nice, I also like Topaz. I still have my bedroom stuck in 2021 as well, painted in aegean teal😂.

I was building a house the first time I saw that! I swear, my painting contractor thought exactly the same way. We almost came to blows.
😂I think of that movie every time I look at white paint.
Loved that movie and the painters never wrote down the colours. Lol
As someone who painted my bedroom white dove with a cinnamon accent wall a couple of months ago, I am fully on board with this updated color palette!
I love purple, so I'm glad Hazy Lilac made the list, and the purple/green combo is up there in my book too, so I appreciate you called it out!

I love your remark. ‘ I love that for you!’. You just add soo much humour to your vlogs and that’s why we love you. Xx
I love the color theory lesson content.and seeing how it plays out in design.
I’m also with you, Nick. Stuck in 2021 with the olive-y greens and warm neutrals!
Yes! I hate noticeable outlets!
@@Jan-qv8ku We are kindred spirits ! 😂
Wallpaper is back with a vengeance!
@@Summerdee223 For some of us , it's a classic w/ staying power such as a Scalamandre " Chinoiserie " or William Morris designs .
@@cynthiajohnston424 Agree 100%.
Perhaps in a new sofa or even rich velvet accent pillows, or adjoining walls into both rooms (wall in common) if you have any sort of open floor plan
For me, brown is just dark orange, like burgundy is dark red and navy is dark blue. Love the blues - Blue Nova and Polar Sky. I’m not a fan of all white walls, but Pristine looks like a color for me to consider for my walls.
A childhood friend’s house was similar to hazy lilac and antique pewter and the combination always stuck with me. I love it and the mood it sets!
Thank you Nick for explaining the color process so well. It's fun to look at color but nicer to know how it actually works.
Orange is SUCH an under-appreciated color in life, fashion and in the home!!
I agree
I guess you didn't grow up in the 70s😂
@@phoenixrising4762 born in 97 😅
I don't care for orange as a dominant color in a room, but orange accents mixed in small doses with other colors can be gorgeous.
In love with the White dove, Topaz and Antique pewter!
i’ve lived in many houses and have come to think: just paint your house what color you want even if each room is a different color. i try to color flow but always end with what works for me. got to make me happy
Omg.
Totally agree!
I’m in love with the hazy lilac and antique pewter! 💚💜
Thanks for the shout out to purple. I think it is so sophisticated. Makes me happy and calm.
Thank you.
Those blended colors are very moody (in a good way)
I never thought I could sit and listen to someone discuss paint colors for 16 minutes straight but here we are and it's quite interesting!
Hats off to the specialists at Benjamin Moore who developed this exceptional colour palette. It is the Goldilocks of palettes: Just Right.
Colour drenching sounds like the current fashion trend of head to toe monochromatic colour. "Tints, tones and shades." Love it.
Hi Nick. I’d love to see some advice about Christmas indoor and outdoor decor. Thanks.
Blue Nova fan here. I really like the two blues together.
I love these colors. I usually don’t care for “colors of the year.” Much more nature inspired. Thank you!
Years ago I painted all of my walls in a very soft butter yellow. It is a very clean, and calming colour. I agree everything goes with it.
A whole room in those colors would drive me crazy very, very quickly. The best is the polar one. 😊
I love colors of the year. Makes me want to paint.
I love these palettes, it activates the creative side of the brain much like the palette swatch book I have for my watercolor class
Yes, I color drenched my bathroom on a Pittsburg Paint metallic warm neutral. And, color drenched my living room, hallway, and bedrooms. Super pretty.
Colour drenched my bedroom in Essex Green and it’s my cozy sleepy cave. 10/10 want to hibernate there over the winter. Helps in the summer too when it’s light out til nearly midnight (yay for being 53 degrees north).
I love dark bedroom colors
This guy brilliantly articulates everything.
I totally agree with you! These colors are very blending, calming yet very pretty color. I can use this pallet!
Really interesting! I’ve never thought about combining colors that way. I learned a lot 😀
This year‘s palette also seems to complement last year‘s palette pretty well. You can pick any one of the bolder colors from the 2022 Benjamin Moore palette and combine it with the more muted colors of this year’s palette.
I have the soft blue-gray color in my bedroom and a very soft sage all over the rest of the house (open concept)
Thanks Nick! Learned so much from this episode. Like the pairing discussion.
I’d be interested in you own palette choices for this year- what colors would you pick - where would they ideally fit? What home decor products would you color or not - just for fun
Yes, you should release yours in tandem every year 😊
I also would love to see a video like that
I definitely would love to see a video on Nick's picks.
I believe Cloud White is BM's most sold colour here in Canada, mostly because it's used for cabinets, ceilings, and baseboards, but Dove White is close behind.
(I worked at BM during the Revere Pewter years.)
I did as well! I cringed at the word griege.
Always love your videos. And I love this slightly less saturated palate
I love this palette! I am buying my first house and this speaks really well to the moodboards I have, especially blue nova, Antique pewter, teacup rose and pristine.
Green is THE color I hate in all its possible shades usually but that Regent Green is looking gorgeous...
"sad beige children" 🤣 I love your commentary :)
Congrats on almost hitting 500K subscribers!
I actually still really like 2021 & 2022 🤭 Green is timeless, it never looks dated
When October mist was chosen it was my favorite year of palettes.
This year is just ok, last year, not so good
agree 100%
LOVE this color palette. I love muted colors as I feel they create a more calming space.
Color drenching was very popular back in the 50’s and 60’s. I remember when my parents painted their living room apartment in the Bronx a light Caribbean blue.
I love this time of year! Color, color everywhere! 😊
Would love to see “Nick’s Picks” and analysis of color trends! I follow Benjamin Moore’s choices, but your insight is worth more to me.
This palate feels more sophisticated and much more practical to draw from. Very classic feeling. Thanks for a great breakdown.
