    My whole house is painted in Swiss Coffee by Benjamin Moore, and I love it. I originally painted it this color when we first moved in 20 years ago, and my painter recommended it as the perfect white. Not too harsh, not too soft or yellow. I ended up repainting it in the same color, because all the whites I tried just didn't look as perfect as the Swiss Coffee.

      We painted Swiss Coffee in our bedroom. When my husband went to the paint store, he asked for Swiss Chocolate. The person at the store said, " I think you mean Swiss Coffee." He said yes, that's it🙂

    The color you chose is really soft and beautiful. I love those cove moldings-I’ve always wanted those in my house, but it just never worked out. If you have a big green tree outside your windows, it will cast a green tint on your walls, especially on a sunny day. Paints are just crazy 😝

    Very good tips. You are so right about a color looking great in one room but not right in another room. I learned through many mistakes when choosing color. Lighting and reflection and wood tones in a room affect the undertones a lot. I now am better at identifying undertones. And I always get sample pots and paint the color on white watercolor paper instead of painting the sample directly on the walls.

    Your room looks awesome! We are also in the middle of painting our liv room and ceiling too! We went with a bright white ceiling which had not been painted since it was built 20 years ago. Wow! What a difference the brightness makes. Our walls are BM Edgecomb Grey (a light beigey grey greige) for our north facing living room/kitchen. No grey for me or it would to cold feeling. Love this color! Can't wait to see your finished room. Thanks for sharing!

    Really good tips on choosing paint and how tints can effect the final look. Thought I knew about color having worked in printing/graphics for many years, but your info was great. The light can be harsh here in NZ so always have to be mindful of that aspect. Love your house, decor and look forward to more. Lots of blessings.

    That room is just stunning. I love all the architectural designs. The board and batten walls, (did you guys add these.) curved ceiling molding, french doors,double window,open archway into the dining room, as well as the fireplace. There is something to be said for the craftsmanship of older homes! Of course the things you all have added, the built ins for sure, and mantel and stone work on fireplace. I just love it all including those original hard wood floors. One beautiful room. It is so fun to see what you do. Love the paint color you chose. Thanks for sharing what the paint letters mean, very helpful.

    We just refinished our original hardwood which has that orange laquer/varnish finish- we just rented a drum sander and orbital sander from home depot for the day and took them down to a much lighter original color- then just did a clear polyurethane finish and they look so much brighter, lighter, and cleaner - i think it was about $250 for the whole project but depends on the amount of time you keep the sanders for. We're repainting white now and thank you for the recommendations!

    I LOVE white and I tend to go with a slightly warmer white ( and my fav go-to is the old classic CLOUD WHITE by Benjamin Moore - CC-40/OC-130 ) which works well in our cooler months here in eastern Canada ( it also doesn't tend to show green since my property is surrounded by trees). Also, if you're a fan of white IKEA pieces, they are a perfect match to Ben Moore's Cloud White! Love your lessons Andrea! xo

    You’d think, ‘How hard could it be, it’s white...right?’ However, it’s the hardest. TY for the tips. My cousin just went through this. Several trips to Lowe’s after choosing a white and painting a room. Turned out to have a dominant blue undertone. Several samples later and many trips, (four weekends) she’s figured out not all whites are treated the same. I have Sherwin Williams whites in my home.
    You know, I’ve never noticed until today that you have cove molding in the living room. It’s beautiful.

  • @jaynebrown693
    @jaynebrown693 3 роки тому +4

    Andrea...great advice ! Also the whites with their undertones depend on if your WINDOWS are “north facing verses south facing”. As we know, north faces is LESS SUNLIGHT.... where a south facing windows give sun all day! That is my problem... all south facing windows. So the whites are getting the reflection of my gorgeous oak flooring shinning on them... YIKES! Drives one crazy doesn’t it? LOL!!! Hence why mine are not painted yet!
    So many of the white paints you have mentioned...I have samples of and have placed them through out my home! LOL!!! My kitchen alone is 20ft x 24ft... it is a lot of walls and ceiling.....and a lot of gorgeous white oak flooring shinning from 4 huge south facing windows! And paint is expensive when you are painting that many square feet of walls.... so I want it right the first time around! LOL!!!!
    Thanks for that information on the coding for the colors ( or thanks to your husband for explaining it ...never knew that part )
    God bless and have a great week! 🙏🙏❤️❤️🙏🙏

    I have spent so many years trying to find the original contractor Waite that was in my condo apartment when I moved in over 25 years ago- it was PERFECT! NO undertones, beautiful in any light, I LOVED IT for years. When it came time for some freshening up, no record of the paint had been kept by the management of my home and I have had the DEVIL of a time trying to find one exactly the same. One year my daughter and I repainted the siding room the color suggested by management only to find it had RED undertones!!!!! So, you aren’t alone my Dear. I’m 68, almost 69, still looking for guidance to find the white paint I want-lol! This was uplifting-thank you🙂!

    Thanks for the info. I plan on painting my kitchen white. The previous owners had painted it orange and it will be a hard color to cover.

    I had no idea there was so much depth to paint colors. We have Alabaster by sherwin Williams and we love it- but it was a total gamble. Would have been good to know these tips before so I’ll definitely keep it in mind for the future!

      I have Alabaster in our master bath and laundry room and I love it. However, I feel like it reads more of a neutral white, rather than an off-white. But I definitely think it's a safe one to go with if you are not sure!

    In one of our previous homes we used "Swiss Coffee " by BEHR on all of our ceilings. In that home we loved it and worked well with all our other colors.

    Choosing the right shade of white is so hard... And actually any neutral! 🙈 Last year I painted my living room, and I wanted an off white/really light neutral. I did look at many paint chips in my home, but I made the mistake of not getting a sample. The color I chose is not exactly what I was going for! I have lived with it because it's still an improvement, but if I ever paint again, I'm definitely not foregoing the paint samples!

    • @PineandProspectHome
      @PineandProspectHome  3 роки тому +1

      Yes! It makes such a huge difference! I hope you are able to find that perfect shade soon!

      @@PineandProspectHome Since then, something else I've learned that is important is the LRV (light reflectant value). My living room color has an LRV of 70, but I wish it was a touch lighter. So I know for next time to go to a shade closer to 80.

    I love my house color.... except in my living room. For some reason, probably lighting from the front window, it looks dark and pink/yellow/vomit toned in that one room. So strange. But we're changing it for sure.

    I was actually in Lowe's this past week looking at white paint chips and I could only find three or four. I asked the clerk if they had more than just those three or four and she gave me an odd look and said we'll all these are our whites. What I saw was a bunch of pale greens on one side and a bunch of pale pinks on the other side. Blew my mind these were considered white. I left empty-handed.
