I am in love with Sherwin Williams Aloof Gray. It looks so warm and goes great next to any woodwork.
Nebulous White from Sherwin Williams is perfection! We used it throughout two different homes & they both sold quickly! Repose Grey can look from beige -grey to light silver grey depending on light. Sea Salt is light & airy so we used that in a bathroom. Retreat was placed in our kitchen and is quite peaceful. Great choices you've recommended!
Sounds like you know first hand about all these awesome colors! I'm glad they treated you well:)
Love your videos! The wall color that is picked varies greatly depending on how much light and what kind of light (northern, eastern, etc.) is coming through the windows/doors. My favorite blue or gray is SW Comfort Gray (it looks either blue or gray depending on the light into the room). My favorite soft creamy gray-beige (?) is SW Oyster Bar. A great color for interior doors I've used is SW Tricorn Black. In my new home, my double front doors are painted in Valspar Heirloom Red and they're a knockout! Looking forward to more of your excellent content.
Thank you for this video, those were great tips in the beginning. We just closed on our first home this week and want a neutral color for majority of the house. I'm leaning towards agreeable gray, accessible beige and neutral ground. This was the most helpful video I've watched by far!
YES!!! Thank you! I was having trouble with choosing paint colors but now I’ve got a few I know will work! 🥰
I just would like to thank you fior breaking things down and explaining. Such valuable information that somehow most designers sharing pics and blogs miss.
You are so welcome! I am glad it was helpful!
I have the scrubbable paint version, and it is life-changing! Some of my rooms haven't been re-painted in 10+ years, and look brand new!
All of these videos are just so helpful. I really appreciate all the time you put into doing them. Thank you so much Jennifer. Greetings from the UK!
Thank you for watching and leaving such a kind comment Sohpie!
I have accessible beige in my extra bedroom. It is so calming and just looks beautiful on the wall.
Thank you for the tips. I'm planning on painting my kitchen in a few months.
Thank you for sharing great tips and favorite colors, you gave me many great ideas!
This video was extremely professional, yet somehow welcoming, you know your stuff.
This way so inspiring,thank you
I have used Sea Salt and loved it so much!
I am building a new home and I had my builder paint my lower kitchen cabinets in Retreat! They are beautiful!
I cannot thank you enough for the information on different paints at different suppliers. My quest now is to go to the two retailers you mention for a color board! Great tip to lighten 50 percent for darker rooms. I loved one color that is throughout my home but painter never mentioned this with my darker room. Thanks.
I had my whole house painted with the duration flat matte by sherwin Williams however when you clean the wall you can still totally see where you cleaned vs where you didn’t even if the side you didn’t paint didn’t look dirty. I’m not sure that I would reuse it when I repaint my home again for this reason. Great tips thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for including buildingourhumblehome for Sherwin Williams sea salt. Wonderful tips on paint
Any time!
Greatest paint video ever! Thank you!
We painted much of our of tri-level, open concept home in SW Passive Gray (the washable matte) 3 years ago. It IS truly scrubbable! Still looks new. One of the best decorating choices I have ever made. I even did the white baseboard in the washable matte finish. It gives a clean and modern look and so easy to clean.
Thanks for sharing! I'm so glad those finishes work for you and look amazing! I'm all about durability!
I just repainted my dining room in Agreeable Grey and ceiling in alabaster this past weekend. It is a North facing room with the window on the North side and and it looks much cooler than expected but I really like it. My entire house is Nomadic dessert top to bottom from the builder so I am currently changing one room at a time to update since Nomadic dessert is very warm and with yellow undertones...I loathe it that builders think paining the entire house in flat paint the same color is a good idea! My baseboards and crown are in Divine White which is a warm white. It does offer some nice contrast with the ceiling in Alabaster. I plan on adding Sea Salt in my master bath and maybe somewhere else in the home.
I just painted my sons room
Storm cloud and it is beautiful, I am obsessed.
Ooh I bet that looks lovely!
I did my dining/living room & kitchen in agreeable gray. Love it 💕
Such a great and timeless choice!
Thank you for that LRV info. And as for the flat washable game changer I love it.... I'm a huge Sherwin Williams fan. The people that work at our local store are so nice and helpful....
Glad it was helpful!
Such fabulous paint information. I just love your videos. Looking forward to many more...
Thank you so much!
Excellent and useful tips, thank you so much for this!
Jennifer!! Such excellent advice! I have forwarded this info to my daughter who is trying to pick out a paint color now. However, I just love the bloopers !!!! I can't imagine how many times I would screw it up!!! LOL!! Stay safe and keep up these great videos!! I love them!!! Hugs!
Oh, we sure do mess up often! It keeps us entertained! Thanks for your comment, Linda:)
I have used the SW Emerald Paint in either Matte or Flat in my office (Roycroft Bottle Green) and master bedroom (Black Magic). They are great paints, I love the velvety look of the paint and I have cleans spots in my office and it does not budge. I even painted the bookshelves in my office and after continued use of removing and replacing books it still looks great. I’m obsess with this paint!
Love your tips and its much appreciated, thank you!
Such a great and helpful video. Thank you! I had to keep pausing and rewinding to take in everything you were saying as I thought through each room I could apply these colors. I’m glad you did a SW paint review as we do not have a BM store here. Thanks!
OMG thank you so much for this video! Never knew about LRV, so helpful. Also I need to check my white trim color to see if it is cool because I use warm colors in my home. Thanks again, keep up the great videos coming!!!
Glad it was helpful! Stay safe!
Simply loved your video! Your presentation & spirit is lovely❣️ Thank you for resources to decide on the colors.
Wow! Thank you so much!
Omg thank you for this. I’m about to move into my first home and I’m pumped to paint
You got this! Glad I could help! Congrats on the new home:)
Wow!!! Love you recommendations!! 💕 I used Sea Salt with Mindful Gray cabinets in my bathroom (looks amazing with rose gold accessories). I’ve used Iron Ore as the exterior paint trim with Gray Matters & Cityscapes which looks amazing and make my home appear more modern. I have Repose Gray kitchen lower cabinets with Benjamin Moore White Dove as the trim and upper cabinets. Due to the seashell backsplash, Repose Gray is more of a chameleon color depending on the lighting.
I used repose gray and had to go darker (Dorian Gray which doesn't reflect) .My lawn reflected in through windows and gave Repose Gray a green tint. Awful! It did look great in my hallway though.
Thank you Jennifer for sharing all those tips!!! Was looking for a black paint color for one wall in my bedroom and my entry door loved what you showed 👍🏻Ty
You are so welcome!
I really loved this video of colors. Beautiful job young lady !
Thank you so much!
Hi Jennifer! I really enjoyed this video. I have to tell you that I have been in my Florida home for just over 2 years and when we moved in, every room needed painted. It hadn't been painted in 17 years and what was on the walls was a pale yellow flat paint. Yuck! I went to work painting right away! I chose SW Mindful Gray for my master bedroom, bath and our study. I love it! Then I painted our dining room, upstairs bath and master closet in SW Repose Gray, Love it!! For our guest room and pool bath I chose SW Sea Salt and I am so happy I did! Love it! For the kitchen, dining area, family room, stairwell, upstairs hall and my sewing room I went with SW Light French Gray. It is such a light and bright neutral color, love it! I also painted my kitchen cabinets SW Pure White and we just installed some custom builtin bookcases in the family room and I chose SW Extra White, looks fab with the Lt. French Gray! I used satin on the walls and semi gloss for the cabinets. I was tickled to see that you mentioned so many of my paint choices for my own home, in this video! Thanks for all you do! Blessings!
Well, it looks like you really didn't need any help! You had it handled! Your home must be so happy!
I’m going w Alpaca in our living room, dining and kitchen! I LOVE it!
how are you liking alpaca.. it's my 2nd choice to gossamer veil
I love SW Worldly Grey -which is a warm beige grey and catches the light beautifully! Also Window Pane is a lovely color for a bathroom
I just looked up Window Pane and it is lovely!
I painted my whole bedroom, bathroom, and closet with the SW flat (I think it was the emerald line) in Aloof grey. The quality blew me away, as I had my floors done with hardwood and tile after painting. Mud from the tile got on the wall in quite a few places and after scrubbing it off the paint was absolutely perfect! The flat feels so soft and I can’t believe the compliments I’ve gotten on it. My hall bath is oyster bay, and I just purchased sea salt last week for my laundry room. I can’t say enough about SW quality. My whole kitchen, living room, dining, and office are all Amazing grey, which is gorgeous. Outstanding paint, and the color choices are just beautiful.
Excellent suggestions and the reason for them.
A few years ago we used Peppercorn for the trim on our vintage 1936 home; used Undersea as the field color. It turned out lovely.
That sounds gorgeous!! I love dark trim.
Excellent tips. Thank you so much for sharing!☺️
Glad it was helpful!
Hello Jennifer! I just purchased Tea Light and French Bread for my Sunroom today! I hope to share a video in the next two weeks! Gorgeous variety of paint colors!😍 I also took your advice on Benjamin Moore paints recently for my pantry. You are a gem!🌷 Thank you for all you share! 😘
Well, be sure to let me know when your video is completed! I am sure your sunroom will turn out lovely!
The images are super helpful! Wish there were more. I'd like to see a comparison of natural tan vs accessible beige.
I’d love a review on the flat washable paint. Studio McGee used it in her house & very curious how well it holds up to real life
Great video Jennifer. Very informative and enjoyable.
Sharon Calloway so glad you enjoyed it!!
Just subscribed to your channel. Thank you for sharing your Sherwin Williams paint favorites/choices. We're building a home in Boise and the builder uses SW. We're scheduled for a visit to the design center and I'm sure the designer will ask me what paint for what room, etc. I now at least have some tips from this video. Thank you. You're a savior! Looking forward to more of your videos!
Oh awesome! Glad to hear it!
When having a paint custom mixed - ask for 2 extra mix labels.(Usually peal & stick) If you have a paint color card that you used for your color - stick one label on back. I then file that card in a fo!der for our home.
The 2nd extra label I will put on the smaller container of leftover paint.
This is BRILLIANT!!
Also, you can write the color name and number on the wall just inside where a switch or outlet plate will cover it.
Creat idea!!!
Jade Fritz The extra label is a great idea. I also like to keep a paint stirrer stick, coated on one end the info written in sharpie on the other end. It helps with matching, because the computers in different paint stores can vary in their version of your formula. It’s like keeping an paint swatch (ink) but with the real thing (actual paint) and you don’t have to worry about the paint in your cans changing over time.
Sea salt really does look great.
Great info and tips! I have learned soooooooo much! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Your video really helped me and got most of the confusion out… love you
Well, don't feel bad! Paint is hard!
A great blue paint color from Sherwin Williams is called Tidewater. I used it in my living room and kitchen and works as a great neutral. I get many compliments on it. Another nice blue gray color is Wickham Gray by Benjamin Moore and Quiet Moments by Benjamin Moore.
Lots of great tips! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
This video has helped me so much. I am going to repaint my house inside to get ready to sell. I have SW Rain in Master Bedroom, Formal Living and Formal Dining. I love it.
teri Hagerty good deal!! Good luck selling your home!
Many thanks Jennifer that was very helpful. 💖
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Jennifer!!
We used amazing grey in our laundry room. Love it.
Great idea!!
When using a paint visualizer or looking at colors online don't forget to take off your blue light blocker and have your screen light high up. 🙄
Gigi Maddox oh my word. Please tell me what a blue light blocker is. I have no idea. 🤷♀️
@@JenniferDecorates It is a setting you can use on your phone to block blue spectrum light. Basically everything has a warm color to it. Blue light before bed is thought to disrupt sleep patterns. Great for late nights using electronics, not great when looking at paint colors or decorating videos. I think on iphone it is night mode.
Gigi Maddox how do u turn it off??🤦♀️🤦♀️
Brilliant. I’d never have thought about this. Lol
Good tip. Thanks
Ms. Jen. I wish, you would have uploaded this video a week ago because I was so confused about which white paint use and I ended making a big mistake picking the wrong one. Thanks anyway because, now I know how to pick. Your videos are awesome. Keep it going!!!
Oh, I am so sorry! I will keep on working on videos! Stay safe and well!
Thank you for this video. It was very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
This came at the right time. My husband and I getting ready to paint inside if and when I make up my mind. Did not know what the LRV was for period and some of the paint people do not either when I ask them what the three letter we for. Paint shops need to educate the salespeople too. That will help in picking my paint now due to our natural lighting that we have in each room. Thank You. This was a wonderful subject. Stay Safe till the next time.
Glad it was helpful! Good luck on your project!
Might have just been the store you went to, have never had issues telling people about Light Reflective Value, if you truly want to see the color, take the sample to the place you’re painting before committing to larger quantities
I don’t know who would be looking at the nebulous gray on the cabinets with the dog in the sink. I could not take my eyes off the gorgeous Bichon. By the way, you are my FAVORITE designer on UA-cam! Merry Christmas.
Aw thank you Debby!! Merry Christmas to you as well!
You are so right, "paint is tough." My theory is that painting will always throw you a curve. But when you get it right it is rewarding. Thanks for the tips.
Very well said Tom!
I love Sea Salt. I'm trying to not paint my whole house in it! 😂 Sherman Williams is the best paint. I love how it can change colors as you said.
Ha, that's exactly how I feel about Dove White!
I am ready to repaint my bathroom in sea salt...it is one of my favorites.
I've painted sea salt before. Quite dark in low lit rooms. Needs bright white lighting to bring out the richness of the color
Painted my newly remodeled kitchen and family room Sea Salt!! Love love love this color!!!
I really like your videos and advise. You are getting so close to 100k subscribers! Congratulations!
Jerry Wilk, Jr. oh my goodness! Thank you so much!!
I gota go on this SW colorsnap Wow so cool!
Love that you shows pics
Glad that's helpful!!
Thx for the info Jennifer! Paint can be overwhelming because its impact Is huge!
TWINsational Rhonda and Shonda you are exactly right! Thank you for watching.
I love it! Thanks for this!
Glad you like it!
Great ideas! Thank you
Wow, great video! I wish I discovered this before I started painting my son's room. We'll definitely be using this as a guide as we renovate the rest of our home. Love the tip about using what others are already using, because it works! Question: We want to go more with the warm gray colors but have more redish, orange hardwoods. Is there a geige or gray that would go better with the red undertones in the flooring?
I love your channel,so informative and economical,I have a bit of a paint issue myself I’d love to get your opinion.I have this faux stone paneling in my kitchen and I tried to coordinate it with my cabinet, flooring and counter tops colors but now I feel it’s too busy. What would you suggest I’d do to fix this? I would send you a photo but I don’t know how lol
Love the bloopers!
Great paint colors, I've used most of these over the years (minus the grey, just can't do it) & I haven't regretted any color choice. Great tip on the smaller paint cans.
Glad you like them!
Thank you, Jennifer! Is the paint in your dining room Alabaster?
great informative video. can you share what white did you paint on the exterior of your brick house? Thanks!
I have light French gray in my living room and I absolutely love it.
64kimmyjo oh, I bet it is beautiful!!
Would you say it gives off a blue tone when in different lighting?
Victoria Nelson-Betancourth, not at all! I have it in every single room in my home.
Jennifer, here is an idea for a video. I would appreciate any advice in choosing replacement lamp shades, especially for thrifted lamps that are bought without a shade. I have watched several videos, but I am seeing conflicting info regarding the proper height of shade to height of lamp. Thanks for considering this. I enjoy your videos!
Yes, I just ran into this issue!I have no idea how to choose a shade. I like the lamps I inherited but the shades are not for me.
Hi Jennifer, I loved your ideas.
I am remodeling my house right now, and I am not sure which color is best to paint my front door. The exterior of my house is painted Cypress color. Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you.
Dear Jennifer: these are wonderful tips when it comes to painting. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Great tips. Thanks.
The best video!
We're having a house built, and I was torn between Aviary and Atmospheric, leaning more toward Aviary. My husband didn't love that it had a bit more green, so we went with Atmospheric.
When I buy paint, I *always* ask the dealers to print an extra label for each color so I have a fresh label for my little "leftovers" cans. BTW, $$ Store scraper spatulas with long handles are amazing for scraping every last drop of leftovers out of those cumbersome big cans.
When I touch up any paint that was originally rolled on, I use a sea sponge to 'dab' on slightly diluted paint in the area that needs touch-up. I then dilute the paint a little more, which I use to feather out from the area.
When I bring home samples or get sample sheets, I put a giant sheet of white paper (think pattern paper or wide butcher paper) on the wall, then put the samples on the white paper. Remember, ambient colors (the colors that is already on the walls) will "change" the appearance of the color. Both the hue and the value will be different in your room once the existing color is gone.
BL Raine wow!!!! Those are great tips. Thanks!!!!🇨🇦
BL Raine Yes, I have been struggling to get a good read on a gray because the whole room is gold. I finally settled on one, and one coat in, I don’t like it.
@@shannaveganamcinnis-hurd405 You're welcome! Glad someone can benefit from what I had to learn the hard way. 😉
Super helpful video-thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Jennifer. Really enjoying your videos! Wondering if you have any experience with TONY TAUPE by SW. anything would be helpful. I’m looking to paint the entire house interior as many rooms don’t separate from each other. Thanks...looking forward to more videos!
I actually cheered in my car when you said iron ore it has long been one of my favorites
Ha!! Yes it's a good one!!
You have the best advice in my opinion. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🦋
Aw, thanks you Barbara!
Love your content!
Thanks so much for this video! My husband and I are painting our house Sherwin Williams Rock Candy. We have a townhouse that doesn't have much natural light. I love that SW puts the LRV on the paint chip! With Behr paint I always had to go online and check.
You are so welcome!
Thank you for these tips Jennifer.
Could you give me some advice if you think these colors will look good?
I chose SW Greek Villa for off white cabinets (the Alabaster sample looked dull/taupy and the Dover looked yellow)
We have a walnut island. My floor is oak medium dark chocolately oak. I’m wondering about picking a warm neutral/wall & trim color (neutral but not true gray hoping for warmth). Thinking of BM Windsbreath or Pale Oak. Could you give me some advice on color choices you may have for me? Thanks!
That was so interesting. I worked at ( 4 ) different hardware stores over the years. Yes I said that. I mixed and sold paint and did the white card for the ceiling to show the difference. I had forgot about it. I enjoyed working with the customers. There are such beautiful colors now. I was always told the paint will dry darker than it shows. ( dark ages ?) You do such a good job. put the picture or art and it just looks wonderful. Thanks for the lessons. Joyce
sorry to be so offtopic but does anyone know a method to get back into an instagram account?
I stupidly forgot the login password. I love any assistance you can offer me.
@Cristiano Jax instablaster :)
@Emerson Jedidiah Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process atm.
I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Emerson Jedidiah it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out!
@Cristiano Jax glad I could help xD
Hey Jennifer! Can you please recommend a good bathroom paint? We have had issues with our paint peeling off plus the lines on the wall after we take a shower. We thought it was paint specifically for bathrooms with all the moisture but apparently not. Any advice would be appreciated!
Hi Jennifer, what is a good SW paint color for the kitchen. I have honey oak cabinets..but I might paint them white. Thank you 😍
Congrats on reaching 100K !!! 🎈 🎉 🎊🥳
Thank you!!
Any recommendations on painted white brick with light gray or tan shutters? I usually use Alabaster for the white?
I love sea salt, I’ve put it in two bedrooms and one bath and every room looks completely different depending on the light source. ❤️
Thanks for sharing!
@Delina Youngs what color of white trim and ceilings do you use?
I'm obsessed with Seattle gray. It is Sherman Williams originally by Frazee which was bought by SW
What colors do you suggest for a two story, many windows north facing room? I have dark elephant gray leather sofas.
I'm having my cabinets professionaly painted, in about 2 weeks. The color is Sherwin Williams "Pure White" . I have used a grey in our master bathroom, "Repose Grey" and it has a blue undertone. I"m not sure what base we can use to not have that blue undertone. We are going to have the upstairs painted and would love to have a grey color on the walls.
