Nebulous White from Sherwin Williams is perfection! We used it throughout two different homes & they both sold quickly! Repose Grey can look from beige -grey to light silver grey depending on light. Sea Salt is light & airy so we used that in a bathroom. Retreat was placed in our kitchen and is quite peaceful. Great choices you've recommended!

Jade Fritz The extra label is a great idea. I also like to keep a paint stirrer stick, coated on one end the info written in sharpie on the other end. Thank you for this video, those were great tips in the beginning. We just closed on our first home this week and want a neutral color for majority of the house. I'm leaning towards agreeable gray, accessible beige and neutral ground. This was the most helpful video I've watched by far!
I love flat finish, it hides flaws and has such a pretty finish. However, I have been using exterior flat finish because it has a higher latex content and cleans up so well.

When I buy paint, I *always* ask the dealers to print an extra label for each color so I have a fresh label for my little "leftovers" cans. BTW, $$ Store scraper spatulas with long handles are amazing for scraping every last drop of leftovers out of those cumbersome big cans. When I touch up any paint that was originally rolled on, I use a sea sponge to 'dab' on slightly diluted paint in the area that needs touch-up. BL Raine Yes, I have been struggling to get a good read on a gray because the whole room is gold. I finally settled on one, and one coat in, I don’t like it.
I had my whole house painted with the duration flat matte by sherwin Williams however when you clean the wall you can still totally see where you cleaned vs where you didn’t even if the side you didn’t paint didn’t look dirty. I’m not sure that I would reuse it when I repaint my home again for this reason. Great tips thanks for sharing!

We painted much of our of tri-level, open concept home in SW Passive Gray (the washable matte) 3 years ago. It IS truly scrubbable! Still looks new. One of the best decorating choices I have ever made. I even did the white baseboard in the washable matte finish. It gives a clean and modern look and so easy to clean.
This came at the right time. My husband and I getting ready to paint inside if and when I make up my mind. That will help in picking my paint now due to our natural lighting that we have in each room. Thank You. This was a wonderful subject. Stay Safe till the next time.
Might have just been the store you went to, have never had issues telling people about Light Reflective Value, if you truly want to see the color, take the sample to the place you’re painting before committing to larger quantities
Thank you for that LRV info. And as for the flat washable game changer I love it.... I'm a huge Sherwin Williams fan. The people that work at our local store are so nice and helpful....

I just repainted my dining room in Agreeable Grey and ceiling in alabaster this past weekend. It is a North facing room with the window on the North side and and it looks much cooler than expected but I really like it. My entire house is Nomadic dessert top to bottom from the builder so I am currently changing one room at a time to update since Nomadic dessert is very warm and with yellow undertones...I loathe it that builders think paining the entire house in flat paint the same color is a good idea! My baseboards and crown are in Divine White which is a warm white. It does offer some nice contrast with the ceiling in Alabaster. I plan on adding Sea Salt in my master bath and maybe somewhere else in the home.
I got into an argument with our builder about using flat matte in the kitchen-let alone the entire house. They refused to do eggshell at the very least. It’s subpar (new build) home finishing in my opinion. Needless to say we’re painting the entire interior before moving our belongings in. Great video!
Oh I'm so sorry to hear they refused to paint the way you asked! I'm glad you'll be able to paint it how you like before moving in. Congrats on the new home!
Jennifer, here is an idea for a video. I would appreciate any advice in choosing replacement lamp shades, especially for thrifted lamps that are bought without a shade. I have watched several videos, but I am seeing conflicting info regarding the proper height of shade to height of lamp. Thanks for considering this. I enjoy your videos!
I don’t know who would be looking at the nebulous gray on the cabinets with the dog in the sink. I could not take my eyes off the gorgeous Bichon. By the way, you are my FAVORITE designer on UA-cam! Merry Christmas.
As far as sheen goes, Sherwin Williams satin and eggshell is the same and not many products come in eggshell. The Emerald washable flat is really good. Also note that if you think you’re gonna need a touch up quart in your paint, bring a little chip of your paint in off the wall or can as big as a quarter or larger.
Just make sure you angle the screen to different positions. I just bought Evergreen Fog, 2 gallons for close to $150, it looked great on the computer, kind of a medium to light greenish grey, I got it home and it's kind of an olive colored green, too dark for the living room. I matched a sample with the color on the computer and it matched when the laptop screen was at about a 40 degree angle.
theresamayfield There are websites of color experts who will work with you online, such as Kylie M designs. It is a relatively small amount, considering how many paint cans you may go through and you don’t want to make a mistake. I haven’t hired her but only because she was on vacation at the time. Her blog and youtube tips helped me pick ten samples from Samplize (as Jennifer mentioned) and then I narrowed it down, purchased my favorite paint color and then rolled it on the wall to confirm. Now if only I could afford to have it done! My job will require scaffolding 🤦🏻♀️
I cannot thank you enough for the information on different paints at different suppliers. My quest now is to go to the two retailers you mention for a color board! Great tip to lighten 50 percent for darker rooms. I loved one color that is throughout my home but painter never mentioned this with my darker room. Thanks.
Love your videos! The wall color that is picked varies greatly depending on how much light and what kind of light (northern, eastern, etc.) is coming through the windows/doors. My favorite blue or gray is SW Comfort Gray (it looks either blue or gray depending on the light into the room). My favorite soft creamy gray-beige (?) is SW Oyster Bar. A great color for interior doors I've used is SW Tricorn Black. In my new home, my double front doors are painted in Valspar Heirloom Red and they're a knockout! Looking forward to more of your excellent content.
I painted my whole bedroom, bathroom, and closet with the SW flat (I think it was the emerald line) in Aloof grey. The quality blew me away, as I had my floors done with hardwood and tile after painting. Mud from the tile got on the wall in quite a few places and after scrubbing it off the paint was absolutely perfect! The flat feels so soft and I can’t believe the compliments I’ve gotten on it. My hall bath is oyster bay, and I just purchased sea salt last week for my laundry room. I can’t say enough about SW quality. My whole kitchen, living room, dining, and office are all Amazing grey, which is gorgeous. Outstanding paint, and the color choices are just beautiful.
I have used the SW Emerald Paint in either Matte or Flat in my office (Roycroft Bottle Green) and master bedroom (Black Magic). They are great paints, I love the velvety look of the paint and I have cleans spots in my office and it does not budge. I even painted the bookshelves in my office and after continued use of removing and replacing books it still looks great. I’m obsess with this paint!
Wow!!! Love you recommendations!! 💕 I used Sea Salt with Mindful Gray cabinets in my bathroom (looks amazing with rose gold accessories). I’ve used Iron Ore as the exterior paint trim with Gray Matters & Cityscapes which looks amazing and make my home appear more modern. I have Repose Gray kitchen lower cabinets with Benjamin Moore White Dove as the trim and upper cabinets. Due to the seashell backsplash, Repose Gray is more of a chameleon color depending on the lighting.
I used repose gray and had to go darker (Dorian Gray which doesn't reflect) .My lawn reflected in through windows and gave Repose Gray a green tint. Awful! It did look great in my hallway though.
Hi Jennifer! I really enjoyed this video. I have to tell you that I have been in my Florida home for just over 2 years and when we moved in, every room needed painted. It hadn't been painted in 17 years and what was on the walls was a pale yellow flat paint. Yuck! I went to work painting right away! I chose SW Mindful Gray for my master bedroom, bath and our study. I love it! Then I painted our dining room, upstairs bath and master closet in SW Repose Gray, Love it!! For our guest room and pool bath I chose SW Sea Salt and I am so happy I did! Love it! For the kitchen, dining area, family room, stairwell, upstairs hall and my sewing room I went with SW Light French Gray. It is such a light and bright neutral color, love it! I also painted my kitchen cabinets SW Pure White and we just installed some custom builtin bookcases in the family room and I chose SW Extra White, looks fab with the Lt. French Gray! I used satin on the walls and semi gloss for the cabinets. I was tickled to see that you mentioned so many of my paint choices for my own home, in this video! Thanks for all you do! Blessings!
Awesome ideas! As a suggestion do you mind to add pictures and ideas of rooms painted with the color you propose, a pic worth a 1000 words! Otherwise thank you again.
That was so interesting. I worked at ( 4 ) different hardware stores over the years. Yes I said that. I mixed and sold paint and did the white card for the ceiling to show the difference. I had forgot about it. I enjoyed working with the customers. There are such beautiful colors now. I was always told the paint will dry darker than it shows. ( dark ages ?) You do such a good job. put the picture or art and it just looks wonderful. Thanks for the lessons. Joyce
sorry to be so offtopic but does anyone know a method to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot the login password. I love any assistance you can offer me.
@Emerson Jedidiah Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thank you for your videos! You are truly a professional. also can you please tell us what the paint is of the wall behind you in your video? Looking for a color like that to paint my new home in June ! Please thank you so much!
My painter gave me tag off paint can to save from our exterior. My entire downstairs I painted Wind fresh White from Sherwin Williams it's gorgeous. Painter fell in love with it and is painting inside of his new home with it.
We painted eggshell on all of our walls except in the kitchen, we used satin. We used eggshell on the ceilings. Every bump and irregularity in the drywall showed and it looked horrible. We were told by a painter to use flat on every wall and ceiling because it hides all of the not so perfect drywall areas and it is also washable...it is a myth that it is not. We repainted with flat and it looks great and it wipes clean. If it scuffs too much, I just paint over it. She also told us to paint crown moulding with high-gloss and all other trim and interior doors with semigloss. That too looks great. We wish we knew about the flat before we ever painted. It would have saved us so much time and money. We used Behr and then Sherwin Williams.
I keep changing my mind on paint color I’m building a house and need to paint it I have white and blue kitchen cabinets open concept and I think I’m going to go with repose gray with a white trim and a eggshell sheen.
3 questions: First, what is the color on the walls behind you? Second, would you mind taking your jacket to Sherman Williams or Benjamin Moore and asking them to match the color? It is the ***perfect*** color for my office/studio! 😘 Finally, what pale color or colors would you recommend that will not affect the colors one is working with? As a designer working with dye samples, yarn & fabric, and as a watercolor painter, I find that the color on the walls where I am working drastically changes the final color outcome of the finished product. So I need a *true* neutral. Having worked for designers, professional artists and art professors, I know they exist, but paint store employees look at me as though I'm wearing a tinfoil hat when I ask this question, Thank you!
The washable flat from SW is very similar to the Ulti Matte from BM. Have a beautiful softness but is still a flat. Its wipeable not scrubbable. Nice in a dining room or guest rooms but would not reccomend in the main hall or kids rooms.
You are so right, "paint is tough." My theory is that painting will always throw you a curve. But when you get it right it is rewarding. Thanks for the tips.
This video has helped me so much. I am going to repaint my house inside to get ready to sell. I have SW Rain in Master Bedroom, Formal Living and Formal Dining. I love it.
Regarding SW flat paint- we use Superpaint interior flat on the walls and ceilings. The walls wash very well with a mild detergent. It is also an excellent exterior paint.
Appreciate all the paint info. We have nice medium/stained wood trim that we are not changing... I dont read a lot about how to choose paint colors for that, everything is with white paint. -Danya
A great blue paint color from Sherwin Williams is called Tidewater. I used it in my living room and kitchen and works as a great neutral. I get many compliments on it. Another nice blue gray color is Wickham Gray by Benjamin Moore and Quiet Moments by Benjamin Moore.
What color is the neutral next to Peppercorn? I am trying to paint all my interior doors that color and a half wall in the guest bath and need a good neutral that pairs well.
Jennifer!! Such excellent advice! I have forwarded this info to my daughter who is trying to pick out a paint color now. However, I just love the bloopers !!!! I can't imagine how many times I would screw it up!!! LOL!! Stay safe and keep up these great videos!! I love them!!! Hugs!

I'm having my cabinets professionaly painted, in about 2 weeks. The color is Sherwin Williams "Pure White" . I have used a grey in our master bathroom, "Repose Grey" and it has a blue undertone. I"m not sure what base we can use to not have that blue undertone. We are going to have the upstairs painted and would love to have a grey color on the walls.
We're having a house built, and I was torn between Aviary and Atmospheric, leaning more toward Aviary. My husband didn't love that it had a bit more green, so we went with Atmospheric.
I need your advice, i wants to paint kitchen cabinets, island, walls and doors in all area of living and bedrooms not ceiling. Should i paint doors and walls 1st and then kitchen cabinets and island or 1st kitchen cabinets and then doors and walls. 2nd question, should i do paint with brush or spray on kitchen cabinets because i paint self and it's 1st time. 3rd, if you will suggest spray then should i cover ceiling or not because walls not need cover, i have to paint ?
Could you please recommend a paint color for living room decorated in deep jewel tones? My home is more traditional. It is furnished in dark woods and oriental carpets.
Historic collection, colonial green stone. My home is primary jewel tones. Red ,navy blue, yellow and green. Stewart hunting tartan . Walnut and mahogany antiques

We painted our whole house with it, it’s amazing!! Bathrooms and everything. Looks matte like I love and wipes clean! Serious game changer!
I did my dining/living room & kitchen in agreeable gray. Love it 💕
Such a great and timeless choice!
I am building a new home and I had my builder paint my lower kitchen cabinets in Retreat! They are beautiful!
I don’t know who would be looking at the nebulous gray on the cabinets with the dog in the sink. I could not take my eyes off the gorgeous Bichon. By the way, you are my FAVORITE designer on UA-cam! Merry Christmas.
Aw thank you Debby!! Merry Christmas to you as well!
Great tip!
I love sea salt, I’ve put it in two bedrooms and one bath and every room looks completely different depending on the light source. ❤️
Thanks for sharing!
@Delina Youngs what color of white trim and ceilings do you use?
Greatest paint video ever! Thank you!
I really loved this video of colors. Beautiful job young lady !
Thank you so much!
I love SW Worldly Grey -which is a warm beige grey and catches the light beautifully! Also Window Pane is a lovely color for a bathroom
I just looked up Window Pane and it is lovely!
I would love to have a professional look at my space to help me with color ideas! I am overwhelmed!
theresamayfield There are websites of color experts who will work with you online, such as Kylie M designs.
Sea salt really does look great.
Blessings!
Well, it looks like you really didn't need any help! You had it handled! Your home must be so happy!
Awesome ideas! As a suggestion do you mind to add pictures and ideas of rooms painted with the color you propose, a pic worth a 1000 words! Otherwise thank you again.
Thank you for the tips. I'm planning on painting my kitchen in a few months.
I have light French gray in my living room and I absolutely love it.
64kimmyjo oh, I bet it is beautiful!!
Would you say it gives off a blue tone when in different lighting?
Victoria Nelson-Betancourth, not at all! I have it in every single room in my home.
@Cristiano Jax instablaster :)
@Emerson Jedidiah Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process atm.
I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Emerson Jedidiah it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out!
@Cristiano Jax glad I could help xD
Thank you for your videos! You are truly a professional. also can you please tell us what the paint is of the wall behind you in your video? Looking for a color like that to paint my new home in June ! Please thank you so much!
My painter gave me tag off paint can to save from our exterior. My entire downstairs I painted Wind fresh White from Sherwin Williams it's gorgeous. Painter fell in love with it and is painting inside of his new home with it.
That's awesome!
Thank you, Jennifer! Is the paint in your dining room Alabaster?
Do you have a video of that office with Peppercorn? Would love to see the rest of the decor.
I’d love a review on the flat washable paint. Studio McGee used it in her house & very curious how well it holds up to real life
All of these videos are just so helpful. I really appreciate all the time you put into doing them. Thank you so much Jennifer. Greetings from the UK!
Thank you for watching and leaving such a kind comment Sohpie!
3 questions:
First, what is the color on the walls behind you?
Second, would you mind taking your jacket to Sherman Williams or Benjamin Moore and asking them to match the color? It is the ***perfect*** color for my office/studio! 😘
Finally, what pale color or colors would you recommend that will not affect the colors one is working with? As a designer working with dye samples, yarn & fabric, and as a watercolor painter, I find that the color on the walls where I am working drastically changes the final color outcome of the finished product. So I need a *true* neutral. Having worked for designers, professional artists and art professors, I know they exist, but paint store employees look at me as though I'm wearing a tinfoil hat when I ask this question,
Thank you!
Very well said Tom!
I have used sea salt in a bedroom and my sewing room. Very soothing
Yes! It's a great color choice!
Hi, thanks for the tips! I was just wondering will light blue work for a darker rooms?
Thank you for sharing great tips and favorite colors, you gave me many great ideas!
How about videos on quartz colors and/or granite and coordinating/recommended backsplashes
What a wonderful idea! Exactly what I'm looking for.
The images are super helpful! Wish there were more. I'd like to see a comparison of natural tan vs accessible beige.
This video has helped me so much. I am going to repaint my house inside to get ready to sell. I have SW Rain in Master Bedroom, Formal Living and Formal Dining. I love it.
teri Hagerty good deal!! Good luck selling your home!
Regarding SW flat paint- we use Superpaint interior flat on the walls and ceilings. The walls wash very well with a mild detergent. It is also an excellent exterior paint.
Thanks for sharing!
Appreciate all the paint info. We have nice medium/stained wood trim that we are not changing... I dont read a lot about how to choose paint colors for that, everything is with white paint. -Danya
Well, I pretty much think the same rule of keeping cool color and warm colors applies to wood trim as well. Thank you so much for watching.
Your video really helped me and got most of the confusion out… love you
Well, don't feel bad! Paint is hard!
A great blue paint color from Sherwin Williams is called Tidewater. I used it in my living room and kitchen and works as a great neutral. I get many compliments on it. Another nice blue gray color is Wickham Gray by Benjamin Moore and Quiet Moments by Benjamin Moore.
I’m going w Alpaca in our living room, dining and kitchen! I LOVE it!
how are you liking alpaca.. it's my 2nd choice to gossamer veil
YES!!! Thank you! I was having trouble with choosing paint colors but now I’ve got a few I know will work! 🥰
In Florida they recommend that we store any of our leftover paint in the house in the closet. Because the heat in the garage is like you know how bad
Omg thank you for this. I’m about to move into my first home and I’m pumped to paint
You got this! Glad I could help! Congrats on the new home:)
I'm obsessed with Seattle gray. It is Sherman Williams originally by Frazee which was bought by SW
What color is the neutral next to Peppercorn? I am trying to paint all my interior doors that color and a half wall in the guest bath and need a good neutral that pairs well.
Thx for the info Jennifer! Paint can be overwhelming because its impact Is huge!
TWINsational Rhonda and Shonda you are exactly right! Thank you for watching.
Jennifer!! Such excellent advice! I have forwarded this info to my daughter who is trying to pick out a paint color now. However, I just love the bloopers !!!! I can't imagine how many times I would screw it up!!! LOL!! Stay safe and keep up these great videos!! I love them!!! Hugs!
Oh, we sure do mess up often! It keeps us entertained! Thanks for your comment, Linda:)
OMG thank you so much for this video! Never knew about LRV, so helpful. Also I need to check my white trim color to see if it is cool because I use warm colors in my home. Thanks again, keep up the great videos coming!!!
Glad it was helpful! Stay safe!
Sherwin williams emerald flat is great for scrubbing and.touch ups! I'm a pro and use it all the time
Ooh good to know!!
We're having a house built, and I was torn between Aviary and Atmospheric, leaning more toward Aviary. My husband didn't love that it had a bit more green, so we went with Atmospheric.
Decorator’s white cabinets in a white dove matte painted open kitchen/living room…which color do I do on all of my trim? Sheen?
Simply loved your video! Your presentation & spirit is lovely❣️ Thank you for resources to decide on the colors.
Wow! Thank you so much!
@@tomcat6933 Go back under your bridge TC.
I have a similar room/house I used Benjamin Moore Abington putty. It’s somewhere between beige and greenish gray historical collection
Fuchsia, magenta or jade.
Just wondered what white you used on the exterior of your red brick home? I have a red brick house and am trying to get my husband to agree to painting it!
Did you end up painting the brick?
Hi Jennifer - have been using SW for over 30 years, I really love the brand. Just a quick tip if you get your formula
Label put in your paint can lid just put your lids in a ziplock put away in your basement cabinet or notebook
And all the info is there .
Very smart idea Shelley!
Love your tips and its much appreciated, thank you!
The house I just bought has peppercorn black on the dining room walls. Unfortunately they used a semigloss on the walls!!! I redid it, same color, flat finish. It’s gorgeous.
I bet it is gorgeous!
Hi what do you think about the color Misty by sherwin Williams? I am considering that color for my bedroom. With the closet and bedroom door painted urbane bronze by sherwin Williams.
Ms. Jen. I wish, you would have uploaded this video a week ago because I was so confused about which white paint use and I ended making a big mistake picking the wrong one. Thanks anyway because, now I know how to pick. Your videos are awesome. Keep it going!!!
Oh, I am so sorry! I will keep on working on videos! Stay safe and well!
Hey Jennifer! Can you please recommend a good bathroom paint? We have had issues with our paint peeling off plus the lines on the wall after we take a shower. We thought it was paint specifically for bathrooms with all the moisture but apparently not. Any advice would be appreciated!
Great paint colors, I've used most of these over the years (minus the grey, just can't do it) & I haven't regretted any color choice. Great tip on the smaller paint cans.
Glad you like them!
Just subscribed to your channel. Thank you for sharing your Sherwin Williams paint favorites/choices. We're building a home in Boise and the builder uses SW. We're scheduled for a visit to the design center and I'm sure the designer will ask me what paint for what room, etc. I now at least have some tips from this video. Thank you. You're a savior! Looking forward to more of your videos!
Oh awesome! Glad to hear it!
Thank you Jennifer for sharing all those tips!!! Was looking for a black paint color for one wall in my bedroom and my entry door loved what you showed 👍🏻Ty
You are so welcome!
What white goes with sea salt?
Can you do a video on how to decorate a bed. Pillows, cushions, tips etc.
Great idea Maria! I'll add that to my list. Thanks for your comment!
Jennifer, What kitchen cabinet color paint would you recommend for a north facing room with Uba /tuba granite counters. Nebulous White seemed beautiful. Im leaning toward a light greige cabinet color but can't decide...
Hey there, what about white trim and white walls? Should they be the same?
Im a pro painter and Emerald flat is what I use..super durable.
Thank you so much for letting me know!
