I bought a pair of these just because I could. They are a good looking shoe, and although I no longer run (diabetic neuropathy in my feet) I power walk in them. They provide exactly what you say Chad. Stability, spring, cushioning and comfort. I agree with your small criticism about under the lacing system...a little padding would have improved it, but I have not had discomfort, so I should maybe shut up! Nice video.
Thanks Chad! Great review! I agree with you on all comments. This IMO is the best overall trail super shoe. I haven’t been wearing hoka for years now, but this is so thoughtfully built and increases performance while reducing fatigue. Plus, the big bonus- you don’t ever feel the plate! I ran a mtn 50k with no blisters or hotspots. (Toe socks work great with this model as well.) Very stable with the carbon wings and does moderately well in tech terrain because of it. The heel for some was an issue, but seems to work fine for me. This and the Speedland GS:PDX(with plate in) are my go to long distance shoes. Speedland model does cross over and works better for daily training I would say, Tx3 is better for special outings and racing. Cheers!
You touched on this briefly, but regarding "Super Shoes" for slower pace/average runners/everyday use: I've read that the performance gain is less noticeable for us plodders. But on the other hand, David Roche says on a podcast that if you can afford it, all runners should wear one all the time, because it reduces wear on your body and allows you to train more. I feel like that resonates with me, as someone who struggles to run everyday due to fatigue. Also you don't mention this, but Hoka has often been criticized for a tight lateral toebox, without enough room for toe splay. I've had this issue myself after hundreds of miles in Speedgoats. I'm a little concerned that I'd have the same issue in Tecton X3's. Thanks Chad. BTW the music in this vid is ON POINT.
Thanks for your feedback, thoughts, and kind words! The width in the shoe is similar to the Speedgoat 6 or Clifton, but may offer just a little bit more room in the toolbox although arguably hardly noticeable. And I thought the music was groovy too!
Hey Chad! Greetings from Finland, thanks a lot for your good review(s). Beautiful scenery you have there for your runs. One thing I would add is some speculation or experience of the longevity of the shoes. Hoka does not really have that good reputation on that regard, which is why I went with VJ maxx2 (along with preference of VJ being from around here). VJ longetivity is good, easily going 2000 km’s or 1250 miles. Hokas usually last around 500miles. However, still interested buying these or VJ Lightspeed to accompany my new maxx2’s. Any takes on this comparison, with durability on mind? Anyway, thanks a lot and greetings from new subscriber!👌🏻
Thanks for subscribing! The Hoka Tecton X 3 Is made with some pretty solid materials compared to their other trail shoes so hopefully longevity and durability are much better. That said, and as you know, I really like the VJ offerings including the MAXx2.
I haven´t yet run in a PEBA foam shoe but these look great and the feeling must be outstanding ;) glad you are enjoying them. I just got started today with a pair of Speedgoat 5 (have kept for months since I got them on sale :D ) and even for an easy kind of day, they were super fun. I can't imagine with the Tectons. Great video and scenery!
@@SeeChadRun thanks Chad! doing a bit more road running as I am preparing a marathon but having a bit of trail time is a good way to recover and work some hills. Keep enjoying your SG6 and Tectons!
Great review Chad! I typically wear Speedgoats or a Mafate but this shoe has me very interested. I'm looking for a shoe that will be comfortable for those 50-100 mile races with performance being a secondary concern. This shoe might be a good option but that price point is steep!

I love that you're still getting out there and staying active. Inspiring! Great to hear that my experience/analysis is similar to yours.

Hi - could you add a link or name/episode of the podcast with David Roche - would love to listen, as this is something that interests me a lot.

Comfort and performance is where this shoe shines. If you pick up a pair, let me know how it works out for you.
I'm Sold! Thanks again Chad great review!

@@SeeChadRun I dropped the ball....Outstanding review....Outstanding!
😆 "outstanding"
Nice review. Will buy despite the goofy looking sock lol.
You don’t have an Amazon link in your affiliates list - ?
I don't have an Amazon or Hoka affiliate link. I do have an REI and Backcountry affiliate links...
Outstanding! 😎🤘
Yah! Thanks Ben!
Mach X 3 🤔😀
The Mach X2 got him excited, haha
Lol! I didn't know you were talking about at first but I've since fixed the typo in the chapters.
