I have the Tecton X3 and I've been a little disappointed by it so far. I wore them for a recent 50k Ultra but after about 20 miles in my feet were absolutely killing me!! Not sure if that's down to them still being fairly new but it wasn't appreciated and cost me a sub 5hr attempt.

What are they like in wet mud ?
A lot of races I do are hard trails but with sections that involve wet mud
I couldn’t use a dedicated soft terrain trail shoe because it simply wouldn’t have the cushioning and protection I need on the hard trail and road sections. Currently use the saconey endorphin edge but it’s not very good in mud

Loved this review and seeing companies like these continue to innovate! It’s like the engineers had the same brief (design a shoe that will offer confort and performance very long distances) yet went to separate rooms and contextualized for their own terrain and local population preference. The end product, these shoes look so different, shining in their own terrain. I would have hoped for a smidge lighter for the one, but we all know which one of these is going to break down first… that has to be worth something.

Great comment, thanks a lot for this! Lighter isn't always better and a robust trail shoe is also a great thing to have.

Thank you for the review and comparison! It thoroughly convinced me to not spend my hard earned money on any of these overpriced (and in the case of Salomon also overweight) perversions of a trail shoe. €275 for a shoe that makes you feel insecure going downhill - and this probably also in technical terrain - is a waste of money. And the weight of the Salomon makes it overpriced if it costs more than say €120. And this is without mentioning how these shoes perform on wet surfaces, which to be honest trail running is very much about in large parts of Europe for six months per year.
I would recommend VJ Maxx 2 for wet and/or technically demanding surfaces and Salomon Glide Max TR for drier and flatter long-distance trail runs. Both are cheaper and better.

Manufacturers have forgot what trail running is.

I wonder how the La Sportiva Jackal 2 Boa compares to these two shoes. Better grip (both up- and down-hill) on technical terrain? Better fit? Not as comfortable for the longer distances?

Thx for the review! As a very average runner, I’ve been looking for a shoe that can help me finish a 100K race. Pretty sure the Tecton X 3 is not for me. Was hoping the upcoming SLab Ultra Glide may be an option, but the weight and the hefty price is quite a turn off. The Slab Ultra FDH seems like a much better option, but interesting that very few people have actually reviewed this shoe. Heck, even the regular Ultra Glide 2 seems like a better choice.

Also, are you feeling the relieve spheres as bumpy on the inside? Or are they just meant to suction from the outside? Curious minds want to know!

Great question. Honestly I couldn't really feel them on the inside. My mind wanted to feel them and I though I did during the first run but then that feeling vanished. They're meant to be felt on the inside though, maybe it's simply less noticeable than I imagined.

Alot of people don't like salomon laces. I've change my shoes, now I use normal laces and I really hate it. Laces unleashed easily and is slow to tied again. One of the laces is about to break too. I really miss salomon system, sometimes I tied once and you have to forget it

if you are using salomon shoes still, you could ask the costumer service for a spar pair of quick lace and might get one for free

340g ? That's twice heavier than my Slab sense 7 that I bought few years ago. Crazy.

275 euro. I found the Ultra glide 2 here for 46 Euro , which would take most normal people through any ultra race. This is hype and totally unnecessary.

The cost of these shoes is insane for 99% of trail runners, more training would benefit the 99% than any of these super trail shoes
