It is definitely one the best RPG's I've ever played ! It was HUGE ! I've played it for months and never finished it. The one thing that is amazing is that there were no maps while playing so you could easily get lost in those forests and cities. There were also many artifacts or gear scattered throughout the wilderness. Many different characters would join you along the way. The game was full of events, gangs and riches ! One of a kind ...
Fate Lore: You could recruit a party of 6 healer fairies and a priest, and as the whole party gets experience when the priest prays the enemies away, so you run into the final area and level up by praying a lot and never fighting. Until level 50 the fairies can't do any damage, then they learn the most powerful spells in the game. For normal mages, it took level 80 to get those spells Every single Island (out of hundrets) has a magic item burrowed somewhere on it. You could plough through the entire archipelago.
Hmmm, actually i succesfully finished this game about 2 months ago, I played Fate in WinUAE emulator. It took me exactly 168 hours to complete this game (statictics shown in game), quite long gameplay, isn`t it? I have an outro video grabbed by WinUAE, but i am not sure about uploading it, because it is "gargantuan size spoiler." But i can tell you, it is REALLY one of the most beautiful and interesting outros i have ever seen in my life and i am computer player since 1989 !
Hmm, never played this by using the mouse much. I used keyboard shortcuts almost the entire time. F-keys to select characters, number keys to select menu entries. That also makes it less likely to select the wrong dialog option. Also, if you can, play the German version - it doesn't have the censorship of the English release.
Good work on the intro mate :)!! hmm one of the games that never passed into my attention, now i know the reason!the fx are normal, but they could be better!!i hope you feel well mate ! Cheers!
The English v ersion is one of the rarest Amiga games? Darn, I should have kept mine! I really liked this game, it had a special feel. I never got very far in it though.
continued... Yes, it is very short outro, just a couple of seconds long animation, but nice, beautiful one. And this game is really extremely violent... my kill-counter stopped at ridiculous number 197 261 killed enemies (yes nearly 200 K). For example my Wizardry 7 counter stopped at (in comparison with Fate) peaceful value of 12 076 killed enemies, that is about 1/16 ratio. After Fate, you can say - ...you dont even fight in games like Dungeon master or Eye of the beholder.
While I'm impressed how people make their own maps bitd I can't say it is something I find "fun" lol. Looking back I think these games would have been better off with auto-maps especially with worlds that big for average players. Cool review, the atmosphere and story still look novel today.
Well for me personally, back in the day, making maps wasn't something you would do for everything. Just in areas where you really got stuck and couldn't find where to go. Back in the VERY early days with games like the very early wizardry and might & magic games, I'd map them fully - but they were small and quite tough so when you finally got a little further you really wanted to map exactly where that next fight or direction to go was. Yes, it was fun then, primarily because it was a measure of progress and quite important to getting better at the game. This game is FAR to big to map.

Incredible how huge it is. It's amazing what they could manage with a couple of floppies. Never even heard of it before. Great review :)
One of my first RPGs back in the days. Thanks for your content!

I had played it in 1991, when I was 9 years old.

Love the new intro! Fantastic work on the review, sir, as always.
Very cool review, and the intro is awesome!

I will certainly have to give this game a try. I guess that woman joining your party at level 113 is some indication of the scope of the game.
