Well, here it is. After finishing the Dos Version I could pretty much run through the game. I just had to stop and think sometimes in the pyramid waxwork. Unfortunately there are two small flaws, I couldn't get in order. First: the game experienced a sound bug most of the time, meaning, that the sound effects are mostly not there. The Background music plays all the time, but the sounds would disappear and reappear without a logical reason. Second: Since I made a legit HD installation, I couldn't use quick safes, so I had to work around this as well. I used the normal in game saving and cut it out of the video by halting and reastarting the recording just before and after that. You'll notice the music sometimes jumps, that's when I saved the game. So, I hope you like the Video. -

Oh boy, the main character just leaves one of the evil twins stuck in a helpless baby body in a graveyard filled with vengeful zombies.
Maybe he took the baby to a safe place or something?
Three words: Baby. Back. Ribs.
Well...Considering the main character is actually the evil twin himself..
@@LovelyCinccino It is highly implied that nobody knows who is to be the evil twin. The graveyard coffins indicate you are good, and your brother is the evil one, while the fact your uncle won't give you the evil twins' tools until they're dead in fear of you being corrupted by them implies you are the evil one. It was intentional, as to raise the risk factor.
Infernape-VA-Official Guess we’ll never know the truth
its only took 29 years...SO THATS HOW you do the London part. haunted me for these near 30 years. Back when games were magical adventures.
With a six-pack like that (which is visible through his coat!), they should call him Jack the Ripped instead.
Maybe it's just me but with his character design he seems like he'd fit into Bloodborne perfectly.
Phucketmcsucket That's because Bloodborne is going for that gothic Victorian look.
M'lady
BugPope Jack the Ripped Ripper.
I had an original, boxed copy of this back in the day. My mom bought me a used Amiga 500 and it came with a huge box full of original games. Waxworks was one of the games that genuinely scared me as a kid. Nice to see how it really played out, since I couldn't finish it myself. What really pisses me off, is the fact that I sold all of that Amiga stuff when I got older.
One of the very first macabre games. Cost me many a night. How nice to see it once again.
Something that I noticed:
The graveyard twin was the only one who didn't save a woman in any way (the Egypt twin went to save his girlfriend, the London twin saved all the surviving call girls by killing Jack the Ripper, and the mine twin saved a group of people that included a female doctor). He just went back to get his shovel.
Just thought it was interesting.
Ender Menon Not only that, the graveyard twin had no reason to really kill off his brother (aside from the fact that he was controlled by the protagonist) if we look at the circumstances he's in. The Egypt twin needs to kill his evil twin for that princess booty. The London twin kinda doesn't want to die to a mob, get arrested, or let a call girl do a kill steal. The mine twin did his job and coincidentally killed his evil Bro.
The graveyard twin just wanted his shovel.
The shovel *is* his girlfriend
@@FarisFlowers all necromamcers are internal evil. See no way to put it.
@@TarkTheWild of course necromancers are evil and dangerous, which is what makes his twin the least likely person to perform the task of ridding the evil twin. Again, he just wanted his shovel. Lol
@OCTAGON BLUE curses and black magic are so powerful, they can work retroactively. Besides, magic doesn't have to follow the laws of reality.
I loved how each Waxwork had something that made random exploring very dangerous. The Graveyard it was the infinite amount of zombies, the Egypt level it was all the tripwires and blocks that when pushed would cause a boulder to come hurtling towards you, the London level it was the policemen and mobs with torches, and the Mine level it was the moving vines and killer pods which if you run out of spray in the chemical sprayer you can't get past them oh and who can forget the minecart which if you don't block will trap you in the mine forever
Danger is the name of the game here. Shit makes me too tense, though. It's easy to screw up if you're not thinking clearly.
childofthe80s1981 I always hated getting that horrible zombie death, this game is awesome
Making the sprayer into a flamethrower is awesome, but you have to remember to replace the screw after opening the gas canister or you'll run out of fuel forever.
Yeah, the minecart can even run you over!
This is an incredibly detailed game for the Amiga. It's easily one of the best I've seen recorded as well. I can't imagine what this would have been like playing back in the day, it seems hard enough just watching the video. Good post!
I love the psuedo-industrial synthy music going on in this game.
One of them was Jack the Ripper
One of them was a huge, tentacled plantlike beast
One of them was an immortal necromancer
One of them was a guy with a sword
*One of these things is not like the other...*
well technically Jack is just a guy with a dagger.. and a medical bag.
the tentacle like beast can't exist, so it might not be like the others
well actually, i got that since i have no idea, zoro only said that one is not like the others, i've never heard of both necromancer (i've heard of wizards but didn't know about the two being the same) and a plantlike beast situation happening in real life so yeah, no idea
Well, technically the "guy with a sword" is actually an Egyptian priest who worships Anubis.
I got it. Jack was the only one who was not an evil priest or an evil guy pretending to be a priest. He's the odd man out.
I can't tell how much this game traumatized me when I played it as a kid. Hell, even my older brothers were too scared to play this.
He should've just sent the butler. That dude is ripped.
no, because if he does that there will be no porpouse for the story of the game

MyNameIsBucket When entering the Waxworks you enter the bodies of your ancestors, so all that muscle mass won't do him any good. Besides, he's not related to them, so...
Because the family of buff af fuck butlers isn't the one with the satanic twin brother curse.
Yall guys got r/wooshed
And all these troubles began with a frickin' chicken...
Video game logic at it's finest
It's always the damn chickens.
Love how the zombies are so stupid even by zombie standards that if you cut off both their arms they just sort of wave their stumps at you angrily instead of just, you know, trying to bite you or something.
With no arms to keep their balance they would fall over. Ever tried headbutting something with your hands tied?
ya
ZorotheGallade yes. Several times and I have succeeded
Well keep in mind these zombies aren't just the classical mindless creatures that want to eat you. They're dead corpses animated by the magic of a necromancer who just wants you to die.
@SilVerRoxetZ What about L4D series from Valve though?
I can't tell you how much I enjoy watching your Amiga LongPlays - it brings back WONDERFUL memories (although I've never made it through any without dying many, many times). Your videos encouraged me to unbox my Amiga 500 - still works after being packed up for 20 years! Thank you!!!
I finally finished this game today! after 15 years! I am so happy! a goal finally accomplished!
Congratulations!
hey man just beat it today after 30 years! Feels great and had a good time playing it.
The mine section is definitely the coolest and most original part of the game.
As someone who had played all of the first 4 Silent Hill games prior to replaying Waxworks for the first time in 12 years, I was surprised at how much this game (and Elvira I+II) creeped me out. The mine and graveyard levels especially.
The graveyard one is pretty original, also. I really appreciated their zombies a) aren't green b) don't bite. It's just an uncommon way to see zombies. But I must say, the only really spooky level was the mine.
The enemies aren't hard to beat, but there's just something that really freaks me out in the mine level with the atmosphere. I guess it's the combination of mutant opponents with the underground setting. And that music.
That pharaoh must have a hell of wide arms to carry all that stuff by himself alone. The final scene is so plot twist :P
I find it kind of funny that in the zombie area, when you fight the zombies with the sickle it sometimes moves with the rhythm of the fight music.
Thank you for making this playthough. I never herd of this game, but it seemed creepy. I watched it all the way though and I think it has one of the most interesting stories I've herd from a game of its time. Nice stuff.
Considering the only thing the witch was guilty of was STEALING A CHICKEN, wouldn't it have made more sense to prevent the curse by saving her from being mutilated?
Well that would not be quite as riveting lol.
She probably would've stolen from someone else and we'd be back to where we started, just with a different family cursed.
Well, if we think that it's the Dark Age, in that ages they cutted the hand to the thiefs
The gypsy witch is so spiteful she will prevent you from acting if she is aware of your presence.

Is there any better sound to grow up to than an Amiga soundtrack? HELL NO! MAN I MISS THIS STUFF :(
Me too. :(
Thanks for playing this game and for showing it to the world. I absolutely love it and I strongly believe it has "something" that games nowadays dont really have. Again thanks!
This blew me away, still have it in my collection today, great game and thanks for posting.

00:56 DUDE, YOU'RE FREAKIN RIPPED!!!
The weirdly addicting music makes such longplays great to let it play in the background, if you want to do something without hearing voices in it.
Yay~! What is it with these old Amiga games, that have lots of ways to die and an addictive tune?

Ty for the longplay, though i would love that you stoped just a litte to observe some of the most stunning graphics (like the pharmacy). More than one i needed to go back on the video so i can pause and admire the game. The maze walls are all the same!

I can't help but miss when graphics like this were as impressive as it got. I also miss when FMV was actually cool, because now it's so *horrible* to look back on 🤣

How did I fall asleep to a playthrough of this?!
You know... I've tried to play through this game. I've made great progress in the cemetary. Screw every other level though, especially the mine >:C
I swear this game's zombies are the most gruesome depiction of such creatures I've ever seen. :S
Rottytops, Hsien-Ko, and Squigly these are not.
I´ve blocked out the horror movie Waxwork (becuse I´ve watched it as a bet in 8 years - which was terrible mistakes, becuse I didn´t know the concept of horror movies), but now I can´t appreciate enough how the game and movie are alike - they don´t copy, but very similiar and "live" their own life. For example the front cover. VERY similiar, yet both are unique. Thanks, Horrorsoft, for those sleepless nights! (without walkthrough).
You know, they don't make games this good anymore. I mean of course better graphics are bomb its just this game feels a lot more suspenseful than any game I had played for this generation. Your guys's thoughts?
Personally, I think that the limits placed on both the graphics and music make the game all the more creepier. The jerky, unnatural way that the enemies move toward you, the chiptune sounds evoke a different kind of terror then full quality music would, and then there's the uncanny detail of all the death scenes. And then there's the difficulty, meaning that the suspense is actually fitting of the game. Oh yeah, this game is gleefully sadistic.
MarioPawner Yeah, even for games of that era, this game beats them in atmosphere, sure, Mortal Kombat had tons of gore and blood, but that thing quickly turned into comedic material at the time, you can't say the same about that horrible death by zombie
*cough*rose-tinted nostalgia glasses*cough*
For horror yeah games this generation just isn't scary anymore. Visual horror has always been better than jump scares
just started playing this game last week, good lords it's terrifying; though the combat is absolute sh*t
Awesome horror game, much in the vein of Elvira. The variety in levels was a nice quality of this game as was the cracking gory graphics and eerie sounds. Nice all rounder although the disk swapping could be a pain.
Perhaps the Egyptian brother had a descendant who moved to Rome for whatever reason (maybe he was part of a merchant caravan), settled down and had a son who became a legionary and was posted to Britain, then the legionary settled down there when the Empire pulled out of the island and his family persisted through the time of the zombie-infested cemetery into the Victorian era?
As for the witch's spell, who says magic has to be bound by the constraints of linear time?
Actually, the two original egyptian twins had been cursed, then the witch called on that curse to be restored for eternity. That's the explanation, nobody seems to know it even though it's mentionned both in-game and in the letter you receive with it!
*makes sense.

I always found this game absolutely terrifying. kind of feel like playing again now.
Okay, TBH, I’m impressed by the quality of music compared to the downgraded version I’ve seen from the Waxworks Deaths vid. I wonder, are there versions of this game or it depends on the Amiga consoles you’re using. 🤔 Just wondering since I’m still learning about obscure retro consoles. Also, I have to admit, Amiga has a few good choices like this game and the Elvira series. Point and click dungeon crawler ain’t my thing, but dark and graphic content is my thing in gaming genre. Also, I like how the Amiga manages create stunning visuals with such old technology. ^.^
Yes, there were two versions of this game, a DOS version made for low end computers and an Amiga version which was meant for the more high end desktops.
Really hope they update this longplay soon, the video quality is hard to watch
It's been 15 years.
Probably won't happen soon.
Why don't you play it, and record it in higher def?
@fabiocarl740 If I had to guess, it would be to gain the evil twin's artifacts in order to defeat the witch and put a stop to the curse before it affects him.
Anyone else really digging (haha yeah I get it) the music that plays in the mines? Especially when that percussion track hits.
wow this is so confusing navigating around but you do it so good... Great Job!
It's taken me some courage to even think about watching or playing this game. :)
@ Fábio Batista and everyone: I think we've had it wrong. According to what I've read, it wasn't the twin that the brother saw turn into a demon. He said the "man" did, as in the man who chopped off her hand in the first place. Basically, you stopped her from pronouncing the curse of twins, but apparently she got off a different spell right at the end. This was supposed to hint at a possible sequel, but one I haven't found. You were in fact the good twin, trying to save your brother from the curse.
There is a piece of backstory that was included with the game, detailing the events of the uncle's funeral and the evil twin's disappearance. The good twin got the waxworks and his uncle's plea to save the family. He was gonna ignore it out of fear until he remembered seeing his brother underground. He went into the mines and saw fish bones and footprints of cloven feet. He then traveled to the waxworks and sat in the parking lot until he worked up the courage to go to the front door, leading to the beginning of the game. At no point does it state, "oh yeah then the good twin got knocked out and the evil twin went to the entrance to the waxworks".
I know user-edited sites like TVtropes make it a point to say "Tomato in the mirror", but it doesn't make an ounce of sense to me. All of the bad guys in the game are evil beyond reason, so I don't see how this generation's evil twin would have been different. If it is a plot twist, it'd be like having a plot twist just for the sake of having a plot twist.
The jack the ripper one was impossible. back then when I played this there was not internet and the only magazine with tips didn't help at all on that level.
It came out in 1992 and the game was distributed on 10 880Kb floppy disks. The player had the choices of playing the game straight from the floppy disks or installing it on HD.
The witch takes places presumably during the Middle Ages, so how does the Egyptian evil twin come into place since that’s before the Middle Ages?
Her curse was so powerful, it affected the protags ancestors in the past too.
He was already evil and that seed of evil was used in the curse many years later.

For the few people who may read this, there's a reboot of the game in alpha right now, on steam, called Waxworks Curse of the Ancestor.
Unfortunately that is true. People nowadays aren't able to just like an old game, they have to remake it and make it into some pure shit that causes the original to be forgotten. Why do people want remakes? Cannot we appreciate the game as it is?
@@binouche2281 In all honesty, the remake doesn't look bad at all.
anyone else find it ironic that you are killing the brothers of different timelines to save your brother?
If you jump into the witch waxwork early you get an instant gameover since you need the four artifacts from the four evil twins to kill her AND in order to USE said artifacts without getting infected by their evil magic you need to kill all four evil twins in each waxwork.

@xlaxformax Wrong. The guy in the coffin said he could see your body was that of the fifth, but the spirit inside was that of the last. He also said each twin is the reincarnation of the same person, as if the struggle keeps repeating itself. And the reason the waxworks plaques always said the evil twin was defeated was because you were SUPPOSED to go back and do it, as if it were fated to happen. And being the "evil" twin may have just been a plot twist for the very end.
Horrorsoft maded a lot of creepy but hard to understand games. I always was thinking if there was a person who played those games without a walktrough.
Wow, I didnt know there is also game. Movie Waxworks(1988) by Hickox is one of my favourite movies.

I didn't think it was that bad, until I saw a video with every death scene. Lost my lunch for a minute....lol
@fabiocarl740 Well the ancestor in the coffin that he talked to said that the fifth in line for the curse was the last.
He also said that the protagonist is destined to break the curse, so maybe it gave him a resistance to the influence of evil long enough for him to break it.

Had I played this game, the London level probably would've been Hell for me, with the angry mob and the lone policeman walking around.
Do you mean the bit where he's asked for a ticket? It's an old method of copy protection that involved asking you for information from the manual (or some other supplement) to verify that you'd actually bought the game. Not particularly effective, but certainly friendlier than what's complained about in ways of DRM these days.
I have purchased the game via GOG and it is awesome, albeit insanely difficult, I love the London stage because it reminds me so much of the Whitechapel stage from Medievil 2, boobies chase you as well and you have to disguise yourself in the same way (although I would have enjoyed that policemen stopped chasing you while you were disguised, as it happens with Sir Dan...)
С душой игры раньше делали... почему я не жил в те времена, когда игры на платформу DOS пользовались большим спросом?..
@xlaxformax But, actually, if you die after you enter the witch waxwork, the game will say something like "You were not able to break the curse. Now it will affect every generation in your family that is unfortunate to bear twins.". So, in that sense, i don't think the curse goes until the fifth, i think it affects all the twins in all generations. And, if you see, in the final, Alex says he dreamed about what happened and that he saw a demon in front of the witch, which makes me believe...

This...isn't all that absurd given that Arab numerals were first used around 400-200 BC, and the last Egyptian pharaoh was Ptolomaeus in 30 BC. Unlikely, but not impossible.
A fun fact - there is this movie, "Murder by Decree", in which Sherlock Holmes is trying to solve Jack the Ripper case. Guess this must be in part what they're referencing here.

im a bit confused on the cimitery timeline, somewhere i read it was on medieval age but the outfit of the protagonist don't really seem to match with the fashion of the time , especially the vampire one, maybe late-early 1500-1600 ?
I'd say more like the 1700s? And then the Ripper is the next one after that, and assumedly the mine one is the last before Alex?
@@binouche2281 imo, I believe it to be the 1840's or 50's
If you look at the sprite of your character, it looks like their wearing a leather jacket.
@@NoBandwidth-0 But Jack(~1888) is the eighth twin, and Vladimir the fifth... So in an interval of forty years, three evil twins? It's all very confusing...
Edit: Also, the good twin looks different in every death scene. It's possible the devs just didn't spend too much time on this waxwork.
@@NoBandwidth-0 Just checked : I now know approximately the date! Druec complains about existing for 400 years, and the first evil twin is supposed to be Vlad IV of Wallachia. Vlad IV was born around 1425, so that would give us ~1825, however he story says he started ruling in 1448 while it actually was in 1482, so the fictional birthdate is probably earlier.
So it's happening in the early 1800s.

Probably, one of the goriest games of the 90's. 😯
Pretty cool game, Awesome history!
@fabiocarl740 The way I see it is the twins were not always defeated, they were defeated when the protagonist takes control of various good twins in the past to defeat them. Therefore if the main character did not go into the wax works at that specific point in time history would be changed for the worse. But then again I could be wrong any game dealing with time travel has a mind fucking story.
I completely agree. Games today somehow lack the fun of the old classics. Some people don´t even know what Pac Man is... It´s a real pitty.
