My great grandmother is 81 and she said that she went to a dance...a sock hop... with her friends and met a boy from another school. A couple of weeks later at another dance that boy gave her a corsage and kisses her hand and her cheek. She was 16 and he was 18...they will celebrate their 65 years of dating and 63 years of marriage in August. She said that their first dance was to Little Anthony....the first dance at their wedding was Little Anthony...he is the first song played every anniversary for them...and they still dance together!!! Thank you Little Anthony..........
Mr. Gourdine ( better known as Little Anthony ) !!!! I remember watching you all preform from around the age of 5 in 1963 on through the enjoyment of watching you all in this video here in 2023 . Your legacy is nothing short of impeccable . You'll forever be entrenched in the hearts and minds of people , and fans , from all over the world .
My Father passed in June 2022. He didn't have anything physical to leave..in fact we had him in my home for Hospice. We made sure his last days were filled with the music of his time and family. I can recall the last time he was responding. In The end we played just the beautiful sounds of nature. My Fathers Legacy for me is his teaching of doing what's right which I did in the end, but he also leaves a Legacy to me of the music of his youth which Little Anthony and the Imperials are part of. It has had a profound impact to me as a musician. His memories of this music of his youth are mine in the 1970's via CBS FM in New York. When I hear these songs, they are also my childhood memories. He couldn't play an instrument and he sand like Edith Bunker but what an influence in my musical education. With that any time I listen to this music he's with me.....
Life's inevitabilities... Condolences and continued musical blessings to you. Many can't stand the music their parents enjoyed. Seems like you and I were the lucky ones.
This is an absolutely stunning documentary about a wonderful group I have heard and loved all my life. TJ has outdone himself. The reason I sought out this video is because Little Anthony and the Imperials will be touring with the Happy Together Tour this summer and I have tickets. Anthony is about 82 years old now, as are many artists on the tour. I am really looking forward to this concert! Long live Little Anthony!
I remember in 64 Going out of my head, came out I heard the bass first back then it was call Stereophonic LP l was about 9/10 kids was outside playing stick ball not the kid, me and Little Ant née, were hanging out. Love it! I’m 67 and I still can’t come out to to play , shop it’s time for the concert to begin. Peace to all.,
When I first saw Anthony I was living in Harlem on 132nd street he had a girlfriend lived in the same building as my family did he would come late at night around 12 we knew that cause he would call her name coming up the stairs Joyce we would peep out of our door memories priceless
Thanks so very much for this program. I met Little Anthony in Cleveland ,Ohio in 1965. I was a side musician on a date at LEO'S CASINO. I was working with Smokey Robinson and the Miracles at that time. Man what a time .I look back and tell my grandchildren who I worked with the people I have met, they just look at me you know. But programs like this keeps the memory strong in my head and guys like myself who were around and played this music. Thanks so very much for this.
I remember as a kid listening to my older brother's and sister's music and Little Anthony and James Brown was definitely included in their repertoire. My twin brothers always went to James Brown concerts.. Music was a big part of our lives such that our mother saw to it that we learned to play instruments. But Little Anthony can still sing really well in old age. I saw them on the Ed Sullivan Show years ago too.
The IMPERIALS were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. Little Anthony GOURDINE , Clarence COLLINS, Ernest WRIGHT, Sammy STRAIN, G Nate ROGERS, & Tracy LORD.
" Goin Out Of My Head " , came out at a time , late '64, when I had a mad crush on a girl who barely knew me, & only " as a friend " , so I'd sing this to her, every time I played it or heard it on the radio. ----------------WolfSky9, 75 y/o
Wow! Began seeing him live while at The Citadel in late sixties. Just saw him live in Jacksonville, Fla. Still one of the greatest voices ever. Blessed to have heard him often. Jim Arnold
Blessings, this is a fantastic tribute to an amazing artist & group. Always well groomed professional and super vocals. I pray everyone hearing & reading this enjoys it as much as I- Fatima The Faithful does. Thank you for bringing this to us. Much love
A lot of people don't know during the late 70s one of their members who is back with them now and he's on stage in all the clips shown here was a member of the Ojays and enjoyed great success with them when one of their members died. When the Imperials reunited he left the Ojays after spending around 20 years or more with them to get back with the Imperials. In case anyone is wondering I'm talking about Sammy Strain, what a blessing to have success in not just one group but two.
This is so true. How bad things were during that time compared to what people changed. Music then was so loving from the ❤️. Feelings of emotional things of love is take me back to where it was so OOO different. This is more reason why people is falling back to listen bc it was special. Yesterday for today. Many words I can say but it was. Love 😘👍
Achieved a lifelong ambition a few years back when I saw Anthony perform his and my favourite ‘Hurt so bad’. Will never forget it, as good as I knew it would be. Thanks my brother, God bless Little Anthony Gourdine.
I absolutely loved this documentary!! The songs brought back so many memories. I was only 5 years old when some of these songs came out, but I remember them being played in my home. I will never forget Little Anthony and the Imperials. ❤
Wow! Such a new respect and inspirational group from just before my time and then through my time. I have learned so much from this fabulous singer and group. Thank you, Little Anthony. Will always sing your praises.
This gentleman is phenominal, it simply amazes how his voice just keeps getting better like an aged bottle of wine and he hits those notes effortlessly and still enjoys performing, I am an ardent fan of Anthony & the Imperials I grew up listening to them and after all these years I am still impressed by his vocals. To be honest, I am most grateful to have savored this music and my son even loves this music, so I have given the baton on to my family. Thank you for bringing so many fond memories of my childhood.
heard them early 70.s growin up as we all do, Call Me The Joker , Can't Take My Eyes Off You , Goin' Out Of My Head , Hurt so bad , I'm On The Outside (Looking in ) , It's Not The Same , Nothing From Nothing , What greater love. , Yesterday Has Gone , Better Use Your Head , Gonna Fix You Good, in the UK on the northern scene he was well liked and the main 1 that did it for me wasgonna fix you good and, better use your head, real dancing tunes, that really made your legs ache
My husband and I saw Little Anthony and the Imperials, meeting them in person the third time, and in college the first time! Love love love every song they do! Their music has been special to me for 60 plus years!!!!❤
I was fortunate enough to have met everyone of the original group. That is with Sammy, they have been one of my favorite groups since I was eight years old, that would have been back in the fifties. I still have fond memories from having met them about 15 years ago. I am so glad they stayed together as a group.
Just the best ever I'm almost speechless this is what pure greatest of music is all about nothing like the 50 old school all the way around 🎵📻🎙💿📀👑🎩💯💯💯💯
When I think of Little Anthony & The Imperials, I think of the total class they always presented with-------sang with-------class, the likes of which, we'll not see or hear, ever again. ---------------------------WolfSky( , 75 y/o
Hurt So Bad I know you Don't know what I'm going through Standing here Im looking at you Well let me tell you that it hurts so bad It makes me feel so sad It makes me hurt so bad To see you again Like needles and pins people say You've been making out OK She's in love don't stand in her way Well, let me tell you that it hurts so bad It makes me feel so bad It's gonna hurt so bad if you walk away Why don't you stay and let me make it up to you Stay I'll do anything you want me to You loved me before please love me again I can't let you go back to him Please don't go please don't go It hurts so bad it hurts so bad it hurts so bad I'm begging you please please don't go please don't go
This is such a beautiful tribute to your father! That he passed on the love of the music of Little Anthony and the imperials is so wonderful and meaningful! Now when you listen to this great music 🎶, it will awaken dear dear memories of y the times you shared! And no one can ever take that away from you! Absolutely Amazing! My late husband also passed in 2022 and was also in hospice for his last days, so I can truly empathize with you! Hold on to those memories and cherish them!
Im thrilled the memories brighten my day at 72 yrs old my recall in my school yard dancing to shimmy. I was in 4th grade that song gathered everyone together we all came from different back grounds and for that moment time stood still. We need this again to love and respect one another. Peace To Anthony bless you!

I had the great good fortune to have stayed late at my Music Center of LA office one day when the guard calls to say Mr. Gourdine is there asking if my boss was still in. I didn't recognize the name immediately but went downstairs to take a message since my boss was gone for the day. Mr. Gourdine introduced himself saying "you may be too young but you may remember me when I was known as Little Anthony." He had worked with my boss on a project some time back and stopped by to say hello. My mouth dropped open and I was FLOORED having Little Anthony there before me and of course, I gushed all over him and offered to walk around with him to see who he might know that still worked there. He was so humble and gracious and I was so thrilled to find a writer there who was as much a music fan as I and we both lost our minds with joy to meet and spend a little time with him!
Teddy Randazzo wow when he and Anthony got together it was pure magic unfortunately at the cost of a lost love for Mr Teddy Randazzo. But Anthony's voice oh my God is a special gift from God, superb, magnificent.
Mr. Gourdine your were born with an unmatched talent to touch the hearts of souls with your golden voice. You have embodied the art of tugging at the heart strings of the young and old. You along with the Imperials show charm , grace and poise in your stage proformance. You elevate the level of showmanship with your priceless and matchless gift. You are truly an element of unsurpass music genius and your legacy will live for a very long time. God bless Sir!
Oh yes I forgot to say this 2023 April and still enjoying this old school music because told a story talking about love, life, sadness, happiness that is what all of those artists song about ❤😢😊
I saw Little Anthony at a club in Jersey around 1969. Between shows he was standing around watching another group and I said hi, he was so gracious. You rock! .
I was five years old, but I sure remember the excitement of the musical late fifties and sixties. I was aware of music all my life due to my Mom singing with a Sweet Adelines quartet. This is a great doc.
Haven been born in the middle fifties, this was the music of my parents and mine as well. "Little" Anthony and the Imperials are a class act, great performers. The music of the thirties to the sixties is still so dear to me because this is what I was brought up on.
I seen Little Anthony and the Imperials, around 8 years ago in North Wales in the UK. His performance was Immaculate, but i would of liked him to have sung 'Better Use Your Head' and 'Im Gonna Fix You Good' but i guess, that his age was going against him. I will never forget this once in a lifetime chance i had to see him. Absolute GOLD!
I decided to listen and watch this performance. I was always aware of Anthony and the Imperials. I followed them since I was 16-I'm now 75 now. One of the The things I admire them is I never heard anything about bad discord in the group like some of the other groups. Anthony has to be in his early 80's and still going strong. I lost my voice way before that.😅😂.
❤so sweet..🎶🥂🎉🕺🏾💃🏽

Absolutely 👍 The First Time I Saw James Brown & The Famous Flames Back In 1966 At The Rockland Palace In NY, I Was Blown Away!
I remember as a kid listening to my older brother's and sister's music and Little Anthony and James Brown was definitely included in their repertoire. My twin brothers always went to James Brown concerts.. Music was a big part of our lives such that our mother saw to it that we learned to play instruments. I know you
Don't know what I'm going through
Standing here Im looking at you
Well let me tell you that it hurts so bad
It makes me feel so sad

To see you again
Like needles and pins people say
You've been making out OK
She's in love don't stand in her way
Well, let me tell you that it hurts so bad
It makes me feel so bad
It's gonna hurt so bad if you walk away
Why don't you stay and let me make it up to you
Stay I'll do anything you want me to
You loved me before please love me again
I can't let you go back to him
Please don't go please don't go
It hurts so bad it hurts so bad it hurts so bad
I'm begging you please please don't go please don't go

Goin’ Out of My Head Lyrics
[Chorus]
Well, I think I'm going out of my head
Yes, I think I'm going out of my head
Over you
Over you
[Verse 1]
I want you to want me
I need you so badly
I can't think of anything but you
[Chorus]
And I think I'm going out of my head (Out of my head)
'Cause I can't explain the tears I shed (No, out of my head)
Over you
Over you
[Verse 2]
I see you each morning
But you just walk past me
You don't even know that I exist
[Refrain]
Goin' out of my head over you (Out of my head)
Out of my head over you (Out of my head)
Out of my head day and night
Night and day and night
Wrong or right
[Bridge]
I must think of a way
Into your heart
There's no reason why
My being shy
Should keep us apart
[Chorus]
And I think I'm going out of my head
Yes, I think I'm going out of my head

I had the great good fortune to have stayed late at my Music Center of LA office one day when the guard calls to say Mr. Gourdine is there asking if my boss was still in. I didn't recognize the name immediately but went downstairs to take a message since my boss was gone for the day. Mr. Gourdine introduced himself saying "you may be too young but you may remember me when I was known as Little Anthony." Teddy Randazzo wow when he and Anthony got together it was pure magic unfortunately at the cost of a lost love for Mr Teddy Randazzo. But Anthony's voice oh my God is a special gift from God, superb, magnificent.
Wow! His voice remained amazing even into his later years! He's been an important part of my generation for over 50 years. ❤❤❤

I was five years old, but I sure remember the excitement of the musical late fifties and sixties. I was aware of music all my life due to my Mom singing with a Sweet Adelines quartet. This is a great doc.
I LOVE YOU, LITTLE ANTHONY... What a beautiful soul, wonderful person and magnificent singer... They just don't make them like this any longer... 👌👌👌
81 years old, boy does time fly by. Little Anthony and imperials were fabulous. ♥️♥️♥️. The drummer was also fantastic. ♥️
Even as a child, listening to Anthony, I noted the clear diction utilized when he sang, was and is very important 👌.
What a beautiful voice.
Remarkable 😢 ❤
Little Anthony & the Imperials the most brilliant groups of the dowoop era with the greatest emotional lead vocalist ever.
