Hey, I just want to say I am so glad UA-cam decided to recommend me your channel. Your videos have excellent writing, editing, and great narration. It is super refreshing to find a video game essayist on UA-cam who has interesting things to say about games in an informative but also entertaining manner and I look forward to the next games you cover. You deserve 10x the amount of attention you're getting right now, and I hope you continue to make videos.
Wow, Josh, thank you so incredibly much for saying all of this! Comments like these truly make my day. Enthusiastic gamers like you are why I want to grow a community on UA-cam. I'm working on the script for the next video right now, I'd love to hear your thoughts on future games I examine! If there are any particular games or series you're interested in seeing covered, I'm all ears. Thanks again, Josh!
Hey everybody, thanks so much for watching! A reminder that all games are eligible for this list, even if they didn't release in 2023, as long as I played them for the first time this year. It's been so much fun getting this channel off the ground this year, get ready for big things in 2024!
As I started to publish some of my own thoughts, YT started to recommend similar videos and I'm glad it did because these more personal top 10 lists are my jam. Yours has such a great script, voiceover, and editing. Great work!
Wow, thank you so much for saying this!! I really appreciate it. I'm really happy you dug it, I love hearing about everyone's favorite games of the year. Welcome to the channel :)
I really appreciate you saying that! I love so many different genres, so my top ten each year tends to be pretty eclectic. Thanks so much for checking out the video!
Thank you so much for watching! Oh man, Omori is absolutely incredible. I marathoned it in December to make sure I finished it in time to make it eligible for this list. Have you played any other games that are similar? I'd love to have more experiences like that.
Hey…. Just found you today, Christmas Day and wanted to say that You seem like a nice guy and i like the way you approach your content. Looking forward to more of it in the new year. Subbed!
Carl, thank you so very much for saying all of that, you've made my day! I'm so glad you connected with the video, there are many more to come in 2024. Let me know if there are any particular games or series you're interested in me covering! Merry Christmas!!
@@Wilson-108 I subbed becuase I liked the way you spoke about the things you liked, and also how you ended the video with empathy and kindness, more of that is needed in the world and anyone who has that outlook and enjoys one of my favourite hobbies, I am more than happy to watch and listen too! If i was to say anything about how or what you should create, imo it would be that the best content comes from doing the thigns the creator loves the most, so follow your interests friend! Looking forward to watching your following grow! 👍
I am so glad that the ending portion connected with you. I wasn't sure if anyone would stick past the #1 pick, but many have, which makes me so happy. That's the kind of energy I want to put out there, I couldn't agree more that empathy and kindness are very much needed. I will absolutely continue to cover what brings me to life, that's a promise! Thanks again Carl, I'm so glad you discovered the channel!
Great list and enjoyed hearing you talk about these games, I've played a few of them. My top game I played this year was Furi! Most hyped for LaD: Infinite Wealth. I think I may have to pre order this one and take the friday off work!
Oh man, I *love* Furi! Such an incredibly rewarding experience, I was actually thinking about covering that game on the channel at some point. I'm also super stoked for Infinite Wealth! Have you played all the other Yakuza games already? Thanks so much watching the video!
@@Wilson-108 Would definitely watch the video if you cover Furi! I've played Yakuza 0, 1, 2 and LaD. Will get the other 4 done at some point. I don't think you really need to have played the mainline games before the LaD, the only one I won't play before 3,4,5,6 is Gaiden
I definitely plan to cover it, so I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts then! Gotcha, yeah, could definitely play LaD without having played the others. I think 6 is my personal favorite of the franchise, hopefully you dig that one!
Cool channel. My favourites I played this year: 1. Resident Evil 4 Remake 2. Elden Ring 3. Dark Souls 3 4. Little Misfortune 5. Robocop: Rogue City 6. Slay the Spire 7. Amnesia: The bunker 8. Fran Bow 9. Stray 10. Atomic Heart
Thank you so much, and thanks for sharing your top ten! I love hearing about what other people enjoyed. I haven't played a number of the games on your top ten yet, but there's a good chance they'll be on this year's list. I haven't played the RE4 Remake yet, but the original is one of my favorite games of all time. Elden Ring, Robocop and Atomic Heart are also in my queue!
A very interesting list, also because you cover such a wide range of genres. And this might finally convince me to give oneshot a try. (wish I could play Hades again for the first time, what an experience... )
Thanks so much, Ruby! I highly recommend Oneshot, and it's not very long, so you can get through it quickly (although there is some very compelling "post-game" content). And yes, Hades is so amazing!! That's still my go to game when I'm talking to someone on the phone. Welcome to the channel, so glad you stumbled onto it :)
@@Wilson-108 So, I actually did go and buy Oneshot after your comment, and I've just finished it. Certainly a game that'll stay with me for a long time. What an experience and what a good start to my gaming year. 😊 Thank you again for the recommendation!
Oh wow, that is amazing!! Thank you so much for telling me that, I'm so glad you dug it! Such a compelling, melancholy experience. Would love to hear more of your stand outs as the year progresses!
What wait Hades ?!? 2019 wasn't it, jokes, nice list. Roguelikes/Soullikes are huge for me, Remnant From The Ashes etc ...let me know if youve tried it
Thanks for watching! Man, Hades is sooo good, I'm still going back to that one. I haven't played Remnant, but I've been tempted to pick up the sequel at some point!
New sub here! Fantastic job from the editing to the voiceover and script! Amazing for such a small (not for too long, given the quality) channel. Looking forward to what's next.
Dude this is such high quality content. You have such a great skill set in writing and communicating ideas. I always love seeing other content creators thoughts on games and you have some really unique perspectives and takes on your too 10. A few of these are on my backlog list for this year like starting the metro series and catching up with Yakuza. Really awesome video, wonderful job and you earned my subscription. What is your recording style? Do you record the whole first playthrough for footage or just bits and pieces? Or is it a different playthrough entirely?
Wow, thank you so much for saying all of this! You've made my day man, seriously. I highly recommend both the Metro and Yakuza series! As far as recording goes, I generally record the first 50-75% of a game before I begin writing a script. I like to have at least a few hours of footage. In the case of this top ten video, I only recorded 20 minutes or so of each game since I knew I wouldn't spend more than a couple of minutes on each. Thanks again for the kind words, so glad you discovered the channel :)
Great video. I am a strict PC gamer myself, and don't even own a controller, so many of these aren't relevant to me. But I liked your narration and style, and I cannot understand all the dislikes. I also like that you include older, lesser known games, as I am tired of people gushing over BG3 and Alan Wake 2.
Thank you so much for watching! I'm with you, I love the new games as much as the next guy, but I like to shine the spotlight on some games that may not have as much attention. Let me know if there are any particular games or series that you're interested in seeing covered!
Great vid and a hell of a list! I've played (and loved) most of your picks, specially Hades and Like a Dragon! It's one of my fav series too! I'm about to start Gaiden and I better hurry bc Infinite Wealth comes out in a month! 🥰🤘 Oh, also, #TeamAbby !!
Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words!! So glad the list resonated with you =) I haven't played Gaiden yet, but would love to hear your thoughts if you feel like sharing in the future. Love me some Abby!
Hey, thank you so much for the kind words! Can't tell you how much I appreciate it. So glad you found the channel, hope you'll stick around for more :)
I like this list more than just games that released this year. HADES was my intro to the rogue like genre. Man what a fucking game! Can't wait for the 2nd one. +1sub
I really love games set in Cyberpunk style open world. When I first watched STRAY trailer I became so excited coz games like these don't come often. I really want game developers to provide us with awesome fictional open worlds (combined with entertaining gameplay ofcourse). Ubisoft does great job at creating beautiful open worlds but I want something different except Green Islands and historical places.
Stray is a truly unique experience, the world of that game is one of the most compelling I've ever explored. I definitely support more games like that!

A fair point! Unfortunately, I didn't play enough games that released this year to make an entire top ten composed exclusively of 2023 games, so it was either this way, or no list :(
