I started watching to gain a little knowledge about mango trees. We have some property in the Philippines and have a variety of fruit trees including 4 mango trees. My relatives there have been telling me that the 3 older trees do not fruit, but the mango tree I planted 4 years ago had fruit this year. I believe now from watching your videos ( and other UA-cam videos) that have never been cared for probably need a good pruning. I going to the Philippines next week so I will know more than. Thank you for you videos.
Just the right video I was hoping to watch the process much closer. You nailed it. I still am not clear on how deep we should go on the mother plant. Looks like you are just peeling the bark and not getting into the wood? Please confirm.
I usually base the cut into the shoot or young branch on the diameter of the scion. Most of the wood I deal with is very young and relatively soft. If the wood is hard, I don't cut into it... just down along the edge of it.

Hello. I planted a mango seed to use it as a rootstock. The seed looked like mono embryonic but it germinated it cama out that it was polyembryonic. There are five plants that came out. Do you know how to do grafting when you have that many plants out from a single seed? Can you graft a different type of mango on each plant? Can you separate each of the plants? Do polyembryonic seed have more than one root?
Are you letting two varieties to grow The rootstock and scion As you haven't removed the top part of rootstock after grafting Can we have 2 varieties ??
I am fascinate on graphing plants. Doesnt this create "gmo" foods? Please explain why the scion piece was so small? I dont understand that. Could you use a longer branch or would that just cause extra stress? Maybe this could be a separate video. Tfs
Yes! Thanks for mentioning... It's best to sterilize each time you start working on a new plant. There are lots of pathogens that can be passed from tree to tree... some by wind, some by insects, some by touch, and of course... by tools.
Be careful how you sterilize. My fingers were wet with hydrogen peroxide for a long time while doing many grafts. I guess the chemical ate some of the skin just under my fingernails and exposed the nerve endings. I was in serious pain for hours.
late summer and early fall works very well for us, but that's when we have the most time for grafting we try to avoid late winter and early spring because there's an increased chance that the scions could send out flowers instead of leaves

No. Parafilm grafting tape is useful in certain situations, but I primarily use buddy tape. We did a video comparing grafting materials ... you might find that useful

Those are "Single Edge Blades" also known as razor blades. They are cheap, and I think they are available almost everywhere.

No. Parafilm grafting tape is useful in certain situations, but I primarily use buddy tape.

Any advantage to wait for the tree to spring back up to graft on the water shoots vs just doing a bark graft right after cutting tree?
Never use razor blade ... it's a flexible. Always goes wrong. Use sharp knife instead of that.
