I feel your pain and frustration Bob. I restored an old lathe for a customer some years ago. It had been stood for 10 years and the front main spindle bearing was locked solid with dried grease. It was like iron, 24 hours in acetone did little or nothing and we tried IPA, petrol and paraffin (kerosene). The only thing that softened it a bit was Methylated spirits (Denatured alcohol). A replacement open tapered precision bearing was around £750 ($960) !! so cleaning was imperative - took me two full days picking bits out of it, washing in Meths ad nauseum. Got it in the end and it spun clean and quiet before assembly and regreasing. I think what had happened was the front seal was worn and coolant had got into the grease and set it like concrete. The rear bearing was OK, the grease was a little dry but 10 minutes in the hot parts washer then a blow dry and it was perfect.

Sometimes chemistry is the answer, sometimes brute force...

I like the pack of 3 brushes, sadly in the UK the brass looking brush is magnetic and not brass. It is hard to find a brass brush now.
I also use an old "Philips Sonicare" toothbrush to blast some of the stiff dirt but not the baked on hard stuff.
You do a fabulous job making the machines look and work great maybe one day I might be inspired to do more than just make my machines run so we can use them.
Potted motors not that popular for the 201k in the UK, I just added up our 201k some I bought because I wanted a case and got a free machine ;-))
Two black alloy built in the same month and year.
Two brown alloy bought because of what was included with the machines. The case was more important and it was only £10.
Three black cast iron 1/ 1951 Centennial 2/ in a small full cabinet treadle, very unusual veneer 3/ Hardly used and in mint condition.
I have managed to stop saving machines but it is hard not to. Makes me smile how many I have fixed and given away as presents. (I do have visiting rights though)
I gave away a 99k with reverse to a young couple in a modern house for the lady to sew some of her son's sports clothing etc. When I visited again they had taken the case off and displayed it in the living room, I never thought they would do that ?
    all the best

I soaked a super nasty one down with Dawn powerwash spray. It also works great on the chrome plates.

No offense Bob… I’d rather have a root canal over taking the armature bushings out. 🦷🦷🦷 🥰

It really isn't that big of a deal. This one was a pain because of the crud welding.

Hi Bob! Did you say what cleaner you used in the ultrasonic? If so I missed it. Also, agreed with the brass brushes, they leave brass behind on whatever you are using them on. Is that why you don’t use them?

Hi Jen, I use hot water and regular blue Dawn dish soap. Dawn is an excellent degreaser and doesn't hurt aluminum. And yes, that's why I don't use the brass brushes.

If I Was to Bring a Machine in to get Fully Cleaned and to keep all original. Also to fix the Tensioner, I'm Not Fully Sure What the problem is, I inherited my Grandmother's sewing machine from my mother. How Much would it cost Me to Have it done? I know it's a 201
