  • The new 2019 Toyota Avalon is vastly improved and with an all new attitude that says "Look at me now." Trim levels are different, the platform is new, and even the market Toyota is targeting is different than previously. This new Avalon gets a sporty flair, especially this all new Avalon Touring trim but it still retains its luxurious feel with the XLE and Limited trims as well. Enjoy the review and comment below!

    Between this channel and Redline it's one of the best one's on youtube. I will be looking into the new 2020 Avalon when it comes out for sure. Think I'll run my current car to the ground and still get a good trade on it. Love Toyota's. That grill gives it luxury status and is amazing looking. Slick!

    Great review Nolan, you really do cover all the bases, and great to see Dave's appearance as he is one of my favorite reviewers. I just purchased an Avalon Limited and got a great deal. Got 7k off due to rebate and dealer discount, so $37 out the door which narrows the gap between an upper end Camry. I came out of 2015 ES and to me the price diff just wasn't worth it as Lexus isn't discounting much. All in all I am happy with my decision. Subscribed.

      @@fpvflyer2615 On interior noise, I would say the Avalon is comparable to the Lexus. My ES was the luxury version, and I bought the Limited Avalon. Both had the lower profile tires, and the Lexus soaked up the bumps a little better. They are built on the exact same platform, with the exact same drivetrain. I believe the build quality is pretty much the same although the quality of the interior in the Lexus is I believe a bit better. The Avalon is missing a couple things that were included in the past models. There is no rain sensing wipers, or a power rear sunshade which both were pretty inconsequential to me. I do like the fact that the rear seatbacks fold down, and are heated in the upper trims because I live in OK, but travel to Houston quite frequently to visit family and have two small dog crates that go with me and that is handy for sure. For me, the Avalon has been a great road car. It gets great fuel mileage. I have not driven the current ES version so I cannot compare to that one. I have about 12K miles on the car with no issues whatsoever. I purchased mine in Jan 19 and I negotiated 7 grand off the sticker out the door at 37 grand. The ONE thing that I do miss and wish I had gotten is the 360 camera system with the front parking sensors. You have to be really careful when pulling up to curbs as the front end is low. So far I've not scuffed mine but you have to be vigilant and that would go for either car. I bought the ruby flair pearl with the carmel interior. It is a very striking color combo and I get lots of compliments on it. I wasn't crazy about the front end design at first but I've grown used to it now. Also, keep in mind the dealer experience isn't quite the same. Lexus offers service loaners, my Toyota dealer does not. But I usually schedule my service on a Sat morn and just wait for it to be done. Much better deals can be had on the Avalon. Sedans of course aren't nearly as popular as SUV's but I wasn't ready to jump on the SUV bandwagon just yet. Yes, I do believe Lexus success has a lot to do with the badge, but it just wasn't worth the difference to me. Before I leased the Lexus, I drove 3 E350 MB prior, but basically got priced out of those. I've been very happy with my Avalon. Would I buy it again? Yes, for the money I saved I sure would. I would be interested to know which route you take. Let me know Phillip

    Great review! I really like the styling of this new Avalon! Especially the more sporty Limited trim level that you reviewed here!
    I honestly would just take a top-of-the-line model of a Midsized Sedan (like the Accord or Mazda6). Rather than getting a mid-level Large Sedan (like this Avalon), but to each his own...
    As always, keep up the great work! You did a stellar job showing off the features and performance of this vehicle.

    Great Review Man. I agree that they definitely decontented the Camry for this car. I really like the Camry XSE but it does not offer memory or cooled seats. But it offers the pano roof and a locking glove box. SMH. Also, the Avalon now appears to use the same lights for breaking and for turn signals. I don't care for that in the rear. I prefer separate amber turn signals.

    In the uae (Dubai) where I live, for some reason, Toyota decided it would be a great idea to remove remote start, perforated leather sides on the steering wheel, heated steering wheel, 360 camera, and we only get 2 trims, a se and a limited that’s it.

      Yes I agree. It was quite impressive. Me personally, I wouldn’t spend the extra to get this over the Camry despite the Camry not having some of the features. It goes both ways with the Accord/Camry...pano roof, 360 are absent on Accord like Ventilated/memory seats and adaptive variable suspension are missing on the Camry.

      It's better than basically any mainstream sedan available in my book, as a whole. (which makes me really want a loaded Touring so badly)
      Even though the Avalon and Accord aren't direct competitors (one's a full-size sedan, the other being a mid-size sedan), it's not a surprise that the Avalon is better, let alone the fact that it's in a higher league.

  • @stevewise1656
    @stevewise1656 5 років тому +7

    I own that exact Touring in red. The grill is large, though I’m used to it and like it now. It’s packed with technology and 300 hp. The subscription services are ridiculous and the Toyota app for remote start doesn’t work. That app should be free. Did you mention the wireless charger? Also, I only use CarPlay, because Entune 3.0 is horrible. Toyota should hire quality software developers. They don’t offer the pano roof on the Avalon, because they don’t want it to compete with the ES350. Both the EX350 and the Avalon sit on the same platform, the same exact engine, suspension and other dimensions.

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  5 років тому +1

      You got yourself a nice ride! It really disappoints me that you have to pay the subscription...it’s a joke and shouldn’t be like that. Glad you think so too lol.
      Good thing it has carplay now...
      Good point on the Pano roof/Lexus. Always have to save a few things for the luxury brands. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your Avalon!

    • @stevewise1656
      @stevewise1656 5 років тому +2

      Prime Autotainment regarding the remote start app, it asks owners to register. Okay, no problem. I filled in all the requested information, including the long VIN etc.. Te app pops up a message, “great your car is registered.” Then another message pops up, “now you’re ready to add a car...you have no car registered.” I went through this process three times and gave up.
      Lastly, there’s a lot of tech on the car and it would be nice if Toyota had one knowledgeable person other than a salesman show buyers how to access and use the system. They should also help buyers download the app and go through the registration process. At least they’d see the app doesn’t work. Other car manufacturers don’t charge monthly or annually for these basic applications. I’ve always wanted a remote start, though not built into a damn app!

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  5 років тому +1

      That would be great if they had a person to do that. I would think they would but no surprise. I actually know a guy who works for Lexus doing that exact thing. It’s a bummer it’s gotta be like that. I hope they change it eventually

      I totally agree but they put a panoramic roof on the Camry to beat out the Accord. They should have done the same with Avalon and one reason why I haven’t upgraded my 2008 Avalon Limited. Plus I don’t want to spend the extra for the ES 350.

    • @PrimeAutotainment

      The Avalon has 14 speaker 1200 watt setup and the Rav4 has 11 speakers and 576 watts.
      12 channel amp on Avalon and 8 channel on Rav. As far as speaker quality...I’m not sure how much different they are...but the Avalon has a lot more power than any other Toyota JBL according to wattage...I think Camry/Highlander are next at 800 watt.

      Prime Autotainment thanks for the quick response. I went to my local dealer in the states today and he has not been well educated on Toyota vehicles. Maybe you can help. I currently drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee (2014). I love it but really would like to find a little more gas friendly. I don't need a third row so that is why I am not looking at the Highlander. I was looking into the Rav 4. I know the hybrid model isn't out but was looking at the Limited. That is what I would get but in a hybrid. I was asking about settings. For example, does it have reverse tilt down mirrors, are the side mirrors darkened when headlights hit them, does it have easy exit where the seat moves back once the car is turned off, does it have an option of a panoramic sunroof, and does it have the same sound in all the vehicles? He didn't know any of that.😡. I really didn't want to go back to a car because I love sitting up and not feeling squeezed into a vehicle. However, I did like the Avalon. At first I was looking into the Touring model, due to its sporty ness. Then I saw where I could get a hybrid Limited with all the bells and whistles, even a heads-up display😄. I know the RAV4 is not in the same class as my Grand Cherokee but I felt the Avalon was, even though it's a car. I'm looking to buy within the next 6 months. It takes me forever. I plan on subscribing to your channel so I can get updates on different vehicles. Basically I'm looking for a SUV that has all the bells and whistles and great gas mileage. That is why I thought I would look into a hybrid.

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  5 років тому

      No problem! And I was wrong about the JBL in the Rav...the wattage I said was for the 2018 model...2019 gets 800 watts 😁. Do you have a desired city or highway mileage you’re looking for? Either of the Rav or Avalon hybrids are really efficient. I haven’t been able to drive the new Rav4 but should be able to soon. The Avalon really impressed me and like you said..has all of the bells and whistles. You could look into the Lexus NX or RX Hybrid. As for the reverse tilt, dimming side mirrors and entry/exit sliding I’d have to look into that. I’m pretty sure a panoramic roof is available but not positive.

    • @SB-uq6zl
      @SB-uq6zl 5 років тому

      Prime Autotainment ......when I saw 42 mph for both city and highway, I was impressed. I get 20 City and 25 highway. That is great for a 4 wheel drive vehicle. When you check out cars, can you go into the settings and show the options that the vehicle can do, especially the RAV 4?. I know a lot of cars have special features like tilt down reverse mirrors or auto dimming side mirrors without showing it on the sticker or when building that vehicle. Anyway, thanks and can't wait to see your future drives.

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  5 років тому +1

      The next couple videos coming out are already finished but not published..I usually don’t show a whole lot of the screen options but I’ll try to make sure I mention if those settings are available. I just looked and don’t see anything about reverse tilt/dimming side mirrors in the Rav...but I’ll try to find that out when I get one. There IS an option for a panoramic roof though. Have fun deciding too and hope the future videos are helpful 👍

    Awesome Review! I have a 2007 Avalon and I was considering getting this one but the Camry is nice too lol tough decision 😓.. Does the rear suspension in this avalon have the same double wishbone as the Camry?

      Thank you! Camry is definitely nice too. The Avalon is slightly different with more movement I believe with a multi link and some trims even have an adaptive variable suspension. It’s super smooth.
      Still though, the Camry drives very nice too! I have a ‘17 Camry SE and the new Camry handles better and rides smoother overall.

      First of all, you'll never have to pay full price...I got a fully loaded Touring with the Advanced Safety Package for just a bit over 40k. Had to negotiate with them for awhile but if you're tough you should be able to get at least 3k off MSRP. Second of all, even at full price, you get a (near) luxury vehicle that is substantially nicer (better materials, better sound isolation, better almost everything). There are many things that are built into Avalon that make it "flagship" quality. For example, did you know that it as a 60,000 btu HVAC system that cools the car almost instantly in crazy hot weather? Its ventilated seats are the best I've ever experienced. Honda's "ventilated" seats were useless. The stereo system is one of the best I've ever heard. The Accord sound system was dreadful - and I mean the "upgraded" one. If it was closer in price, it would completely steal all of Camry's sales. I drove the top of the line Camry and could not only see but also feel a big difference in quality, with the Avalon being better obviously.

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  5 років тому +2

      Excellent points and I totally agree on the ventilated seats and A/C. They were above my expectations. Glad to hear you got a good deal on it and I hope you continue to to enjoy your Avalon. I appreciate your input and thanks for watching!

    I have a 2013 limited that was for the most part the sport edition vs the touring. Why is the current touring trim a sport trim. I think of touring as a comfortable long distance ride.
    I understand the younger reviews will like the touring model. They mistaken also call it their highest trim. The Limited still is.
    Good luck with those 19" wheels. Tire wear, ride and new tire availability may be disappointing. Right now the available choices of 19" tires is limited.

      +Babs First and foremost, the Avalon offers plenty of luxury amenities at a bargain price. Most of which that aren't even offered in the Camry. (Memory seats, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, heated steering wheel, Adaptive Full-LED headlights and taillights, progressive turn signals, Adaptive Variable Suspension, etc). It's overall more up-to-date, and luxurious feeling than its younger sibling, especially with its interior overall too. With additional premium touches like real Aluminum and Wood trim, which is unreal for Toyota.
      Secondly, it's quieter, smoother, yet feels faster, more stable and more playful around corners. Test drove both with my uncle, and I can safely say that the Avalon drove significantly better. Feeling a lot more stable around corners, with a much more isolated ride, yet sportier feel... the Avalon did feel faster in all honesty. While neither are sports sedans by any means, here's my verdict. Regardless, the new Camry still drove great, and much better than the prior generations did. The Avalon somehow actually felt faster, more eager to handle around and downshift, and felt overall more robust than the Camry when I tested out both with my uncle. It also felt a bit more eager and refined than the Accord, and livelier than the 6.
      Thirdly, I think the Avalon looks better too, and I overall think it'll age better too. The new Camry looks great for the most part, but the new Avalon to me looks more grown-up, mature, cohesive, sleeker (with the lower stance height) and a lot more elegant, with a lot more premium touches, both inside and out, without doing that much. And while the grille may not be for everyone, I think it works nicely with the overall sleek, dynamic, and modernly stylish design. With a mature, elegant, grown-up body with beautifully layed-out cohesive proportions, more premium touches, right amount of classy sculpting, and doing a great job to make it look beautiful without making it look boring, or doing too much. Surprisingly, even the non sporty variants (XLE and Limited) have the same compliment. It looks classy and modern without looking mundane, while the sporty versions (XSE and Touring) do a great job at adding some sporty touches (like the blacked-out rear spoiler, that is actually detailed) without trying too hard to be something it's not. It's honestly one of the best combinations of premium and sport I've ever seen on any modern vehicle thus far. Honestly, that's how I think designers who are designing a car that isn't meant to be sporty, look sporty, while successfully managing to back it up with the driving experience. And I know how big that grille was, I think it's sleek, well-sculpted, modern, cohesive, and actually looks quite fashionable yet somehow works well with the overall (already stylish) design. (It also looks better than the overstyled Accord, and stll handsome Mazda6)
      Fourth, the Avalon is significantly larger than the Camry, let alone a higher class vehicle. You're still paying for that superior interior room (that is even class-leading according to Toyota) and truck room. While the sloping roof-line does eat into headroom a little, I honestly had tons of it when I tested one in the flesh. Coming from someone who is around 6'2" as a matter of fact. And 37.9 in of rear headroom.. which is only 0.1 LESS than the Camry in rear-seat headroom, let alone the sloping roof-line paired with a lower height paying for that sexy styling, while besting its legroom by much, that's something to notice, and extra credit for the Avalon. There's in fact more to mention too.. (it actually even felt cavernous versus the Accord and 6)
      So it's up to people to decide whether they want to go for the Camry (or Accord, Mazda6, etc) or Avalon, but I think it's worth the upgrade personally. Both the new Camry and the new Avalon are great cars, but I think the Avalon is overall the better value, and is the best you can get from a car that's close to a luxury car. Especially with such a bargain price for what you get for the money.
      While the new Camry is an overall great car regardless (same for the Accord and Mazda6), and is a superb start for Toyota's new chapter of "ever-better cars" with Honda and Mazda also upping their game... the new Avalon was the one that blew me away when I tested it out in the flesh.
      Bottom-line, the Avalon is to me, the better value, and just the better car overall versus the three. Better styling, better ride and handling, better comfort, better luxury, better utility and practicality, better quality, better technology, better personality, better refinement, better/easier to live with, and so much more. Even in comparison to the Accord and 6 (and also the Nissan Maxima, which you guys love comparing it to the Camry and Accord while ironically ignoring the snug interior that car has, even for a "full-size" sedan). Despite a loaded Avalon isn't even that much more expensive (price-wise) versus a loaded Camry or Accord, or Mazda6, etc, it is still absolutely worth it. Although comparing the Avalon those cars, would be like comparing apples to oranges, because... the Avalon is in a higher league.. lol

Same goes for interior materials...I like the Camry materials but yes the Avalon jumps up in that department. Overall...I was really comfortable and enjoyed this car! Thanks again

      I mean, why is the Avalon Touring even being compared to the Camry XSE? They aren't even in the same segment. Try again. But, if we are going to compare the Toyota Avalon to the Toyota Camry, that isn't even a comparison. The Avalon (across the board) is just better than the Camry. That is not debatable. The Avalon is just the better car, as always. Personally, I really like the Camry XSE, so don't come barking at me for being bias.

      Get it through your thick skull everyone, the Avalon and Camry aren't the same thing, and aren't even comparable. Try again. The Avalon is in the full-size sedan segment, and is in a much higher league. While the Camry XSE actually gets expensive quickly with options (especially many of them found in the Avalon and not here), the Avalon is the bargain overall. At the end of it all, the roughly 5K-6K extra of the new Avalon, depending on packaging, is worth it.
