I love my 2019 Avalon Limited. It does have lane keeping assistance and all the other safety features of the ES350. Plus the Avalon actually is a large sedan unlike the Lexus which is classified as a luxury mid-sized sedan.
@MELLOW The ES and Limited Avalon have the same engine, transmission, and chassis. It is more than the lane keeping assist even though any tool that adds to safe driving is big in the grand scheme to me! More importantly if am going to spend money on a luxury badge it is going to different enough unlike the ES to justify that even minor price difference. I would not hesitate to buy a LS 500 or an Audi A7. The ES is a Limited Avalon with a Lexus badge, not worth it to me.

Yes. You're right, both grilles are large. Unnecessarily large. They make these otherwise good looking cars look cheap and vulgar. Fake large grilles are awful.
Lexus all the way, when you do decide to sell this car. The Lexus will ultimately be worth more, and not to mention all the smaller details that make the Lexus better. Yes they have the same output, but it’s more than just that. Lexus is more stylish and as reliable as the Toyota. Lexus all the way 👍🏻
I'm a Honda and Chevy guy but I would go for the Avalon. Both are smart to put a 8-speed instead of a CVT!! The Honda Accord falls short compared to these two. And Chevy doesn't have anything with the reliability.
@@mybro727 , No the Chevy V6 is good but as a whole Toyota and Honda are known to be more reliable. Look I have a 2017 Corvette and am not trashing Chevy's. Have a great day.

I bought my ES350 brand new in 2007. Still have it - 185,000 miles now and the repairs haven’t been too bad. Going to get another ES350 F sport. Love it!
FYI...The Lexus has a 4 year 50k bumper to bumper warranty compared to 3 year 36. Free Lexus Loaners as long as you own it, last but not least, FAR superior paint! Have you ever seen a faded Lexus? My late model Toyota paint is gone while my 2002 Lexus paint still looks new. That is the value if you're cheap like me, looks good longer and quieter drive than the Toyota.
I bought the ES hybrid, up from a 2013 Avalon hybrid. The ES has a special sound deadening firewall, and special quite wheels. Thus I can hear the Mark Levinson stereo better. I’m old, did I mention that? 🤓
Actually they can also get away with that bc of the lower cost associated with the shared chassis and platform across their Toyota and Lexus lines. It’s been documented.
The F-sport comes with active strut dampners and active steering rack that tights up steering. Also you get Fsport race seats and quick shifter paddles. I like the softer standard seat's with lumbar support myself. The fit and finish are better. The engine management gears ups the car in sports plus. The Lexus door trims are well made, if you squeeze the door around the window sill you will notice how much cheaper the window sill is. Also, the leather Lexus is so soft and luxurious. The ES interior is based on the LS's dash look. Yes, I do sell Lexus but I went to car show and checked out Avalon. You do save $5k but you get a better, quieter car with the ES! Avalon 4 star, Lexus 5 stars.
Eppesuig dont agree. I saw the XSE Avalon in person and it’s stunning. It looks so aggressive and mean. I agree in pics and videos it looks off but in person it’s 🔥🔥
Toyota4Life I’m Italian. I have not seen live then never a Toyota Avalon because in europa it is not exported, however from the photos the anterior grate is too much excessive, in italia we have different tastes, therefore also for this motive that in italia they don't export it because they would not even sell one of it.
@@Dps640 in middle east they are sold alot because they are good priced and reliable at the end of the day it's a matter of taste in middle east they are not selling alot of alforomeo but in Europe they are selling alot so every car sells more there side of the world mostly.
The Lexus uses different sheet-metal and has more sound deadening materials that's why is quieter than the Avalon. The ES (all Lexus) also uses Lexus exclusive paint that is more expensive than what they use in a Toyota. The ES also has a brace behind the backseat that makes the car stiffer (not the suspension) than the Avalon but also loses the folding rear seats (most luxury cars don't have folding rear seats).
Can you tell us what the noise decibel is in both cars! I am wondering if the ES has more sound proofing material put into it to give you a more quite ride?
Words cannot express how much I HATE the Lexus infotainment system! It's the ONLY reason why I've stayed away from Lexus. Why in the world are they not giving us a touchscreen is beyond me. Not only it's extremely annoying, I honestly think it's a safety issue to try to get this thing to work while driving. Crazy.
Personally, I'd go for the Lexus. However, Toyota dropped the ball on this. Only FWD is a huge flaw, power to match an Avalon is another flaw, and the no available touch screen is another flaw. Personally, for the F sport, a tuned V6 pushing close to 380-400 hp with RWD standard and AWD as an option would make more sense, since it is an F Sport. Also, make it a touch screen. Easier to use.
An F Sport and an F are not the same. F Sport is a cosmetic trim package mostly, like the TRD Avalon. In my opinion, the Lexus customer support alone makes it worth the money.
I agree 100% about the touch screen. I'm posting this 4 years later, so whatever on me. But if you're still paying attention, they did add a touchscreen in '22.
8:46 - The Limited trim Avy does have Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, as well as Auto High Beams, Full Speed Cruise Control, etc. If you’re going to compare full features in the ES, should’ve compared the _Limited_ edition Avalon, not the Touring.
Gotta stay with my 2013 Avalon for daily duty, 2014 Lexus LS460L AWD for long drives and to show off what an ass I am. Wanted the LS for decades, Avalon was what I could afford. Found the LS last year with 10074 miles and half price of new. Couldn’t resist.

i was cross shopping a 2020 avalon and a 2017 lexus the other day. something about the avalon just felt more, comfortable, idk. i also wasn’t a huge fan of that infotainment controls in the lexus either. overall i actually preferred the interior feel of the avalon, even though the lexus interior LOOKED nicer, it wasn’t as comfortable.
To me, I really don’t like the look of full size sedans, so both seem pretty blah outside just because of the overall silhouette... but that interior In the Lexus looks loads better than the Avalon, and having been in some newer lexus’ vs Toyota’s, I can tell you the tactile feel of everything is worth the step up
I work for Toyota and it's getting more common. The Avalon, Highlander, Lexus ES, amd Lexus RX all have it. Im sure there are more, but that's all that comes through the distribution center that I work at that have it.
The choice between the Avalon and the ES350 depends on whether you want a car with a front end that looks like the megamouth shark look of the Toyota or the Predator look of the Lexus.
The real-world price differential is a whole lot more than the title states. Checked True Car. Avalon’s are being discounted nearly $5K. The ES is discounted about $1K
Interior goes to Lexus. Exterior goes to Avalon. Two reasons I’d rather go with the Avalon (assuming I didn’t care about cost)... the touch screen and the Lexus doesn’t have folding rear seats. I don’t get why, but I find that omission annoying.
If it helps to explain anything, for 30 years the ES has had an extra brace behind the rear seatback to add structural rigidity instead of a larger pass-through.
Bought a 2021 Avalon Touring with Advance Safety package for under $38K. You are correct you can't touch a comparable Lexus for less than $10K more. Items included in Touring are à la carte on Lexus ES350 F-Sport including premium sound, headlights, HUD, and adaptive suspension. Most reviewers fail to point this out when comparing the two. 6X fewer Lexus dealers and cars to choose from and less negotiating power. No thanks, I could buy new Avalon or other vehicle in 5 years and get the latest and greatest for 20% less price.
@@thecriticalthinkeroutsidet4947 Nissan's flagship Maxima has been in freefall in terms of sales; the new generation Avalon is selling less than half of what the Maxima is. However, the reality is that if this car doesn't move off dealer lots, it will go the way of the Cressida.
@@thecriticalthinkeroutsidet4947 Toyota's Avalon is the only competitive sedan in that segment, I completely agree. Perhaps Toyota should communicate with their core Avalon buyers to encourage them to make a new purchase, then extend to the new demographic they're targeting in order to slow flagging sales. Otherwise they may have to rush a refresh of the front end in order to keep traditional Avalon buyers out of other large cars and crossover vehicles. Honda had a similar problem a few years ago with the Civic, which resulted in a short generation because the company couldn't afford to continue a slipping sales trend.
Whats messed up is the cheaper avalon comes with laminated side glass standard on all trims. To get it on the ES you must get the luxury or UL trims. Base trim doesnt have it.
That and the availability of heated rear seats only on Avalon were weird disparities between the two. I'm pretty sure the teams that developed the two were quite independent from each other. I'd guess Avalon got those features to separate it from Camry, and ES left them off to hold the price down to the same neighborhood as the previous ES.
I really like the looks of both of them! But, I really love the Avalon! I currently drive a 1999 Avalon (20 years old), that my dad bought brand new. It still have the original alternator, and A/C compressor, which still works very well, and I'm approaching 270k miles. It's a true testament of Toyota quality!!
Avalons are outstanding used car buys. They're not only well built out of sturdy stuff, but they're the exact opposite of a ricer -- most of their first owners were older, not enthusiasts, not poor, and babied them. All of this historically makes them great bets.
IS 350 RWD is better and more fun. The GS is a better car that the es350 imo. The ES and Avalon overlap each other and either one could be taken away. We need RXF and ISF F cars in the lineup darnit.

@@LlyleHunter Bruce, you are speaking of a time when I was a lot younger and we used to wait for each spring when the new cars would be out for that year ( not 1 to 2 years hence ) and we'd try the 'oneupmanship' on our buddies to see who could identify the new cars from the old by that omnipresent grille. Then a few of us, a very few , used to top the other guys by identifying the trucks too.

Toyota styling is garish. German styling is more restrained and elegant.
I drove both and the ES makes the Avalon feel cheap and I’m a guy who was already impressed with the Avalon.
I would pay the extra $5K just to have Lexus dealer support. I only buy Lexus, and dealer support and quality is probably the main reason.
What is dealer support
The BEST large luxury FWD sedans money can buy.
Bravo Toyota and Lexus. I want both the XSE Avalon and F Sport ES. I can’t pick lol. The Avalon does look more aggressive then the ES
Avalon Touring better than XSE
The grill on the Avalon is a horrible styling boondoggle! That spoils the whole package.

They should refine the grill in the next refresh.

In my experience the level of service at the Lexus dealership is second to none.
The Lexus looks absolutely gorgeous
I really enjoy your reviews keep up the great work I'd like to see more of these reviews tfcars
Correction sir, those are not diamonds on the grills, they’re Lexus “L”. Lexus over BMW/Merc any day.
I love my 2019 Avalon Limited. It does have lane keeping assistance and all the other safety features of the ES350. Plus the Avalon actually is a large sedan unlike the Lexus which is classified as a luxury mid-sized sedan.
@MELLOW
The ES and Limited Avalon have the same engine, transmission, and chassis.
How is the ride compared to the es
"diamondy" grill.... LMAO
it's the corporate spindle grille that are actually L's....
DatGamerGurl Just like the L's Lexus takes with the customers they Lose out on from their extremely too bold designs 😂😂

My Suggestion is that if you want to go for Avalon...better just get used ES. Same price will give you WAY better feel
The Lexus grill looks better!
Yes. You're right, both grilles are large. Unnecessarily large. They make these otherwise good looking cars look cheap and vulgar. Fake large grilles are awful.
I Downvote All Ads the Avalon grille looks way bigger. The spindle grille looks smaller
@@saltie.7783 yup, I dislike both. And any other fake stuff on cars.

Ok.....one question. Does the Lexus maintain the $5K difference in resale? If not, the Avalon would be my choice.
From what I've read and research, yes it does.
Lexus all the way, when you do decide to sell this car. The Lexus will ultimately be worth more, and not to mention all the smaller details that make the Lexus better. Yes they have the same output, but it’s more than just that. Lexus is more stylish and as reliable as the Toyota. Lexus all the way 👍🏻
Joeyabarth17 plus you get all the perks of a Lexus dealer, like complimentary service and loaners and just overall better service
They will overall be worth more but in comparison to the overall resale price vs depreciation you would be looking at the about the same
Good luck cleaning that grill of the toyota.
I'm a Honda and Chevy guy but I would go for the Avalon. Both are smart to put a 8-speed instead of a CVT!! The Honda Accord falls short compared to these two. And Chevy doesn't have anything with the reliability.
Give me the Chevy Blazer RS!!! Reliability is over-rated in 2019.
Best Buy old engine reliable
Ron Dail Excuse me? Chevy’s V6 in the Impala is “unreliable” now?? Lmdao. That’s news to me and the first time I’ve heard that shxt.

Thanks for reviewing these. After seeing this, I'll happily stick with my 2019 Camry Hybrid.
Stephen Gillie y would u get a hybrid smh
I have a 2016 Avalon Touring. I love Ava, she’s fast and smooth, always there when I need her. Built for comfort, not for speed, got some weight to her but she knows how to work it. Move too fast and she’ll let you know, but a dream to ride everyday.
You lost me at "Front wheels only"
Think I'll look into the IS350 instead...
IS too small
If room and ride comfort/quietness are lower priorities for you, you should definitely be looking IS instead.
Lexus is luxury of course its going to come with a higher tag they gotta compete with the better german cars
I think they are both beautiful vehicles.
I kept my 97 Avalon when I bought my Jaquar, still shooting around in the avalon! Been a great car and might buy another.
I bought the ES hybrid, up from a 2013 Avalon hybrid. The ES has a special sound deadening firewall, and special quite wheels. Thus I can hear the Mark Levinson stereo better. I’m old, did I mention that? 🤓
In case some folks don't know,...... The Lexus brand is Toyota's luxury car division. As is Lincoln is Ford's. And Infinity is Nissan's.
Infiniti
You didn't show direct comparisons of the interiors...
Nice to see a big guy doing these reviews.
Toyota can get away with low price gaps on their luxury cars because of resale value.
Try doing that with Ford/Lincoln...
Actually they can also get away with that bc of the lower cost associated with the shared chassis and platform across their Toyota and Lexus lines. It’s been documented.
it would be better to compare a es fsport to the avalon trd edition..... to make it even... both sport trims
I really like this video explaining the difference between these 2 cars. Outstanding job.
Looks like Toyota didn't design a $5000 front bumper to cut cost.
The Toyota’s grill it’s terrible.
It looks like a dead fish w the Mouth open
I think it looks great! Bold, massive, masculine and in your face!
im a lexus fan and also a very brand sort of person..... but the avalon has my solid salutes for how it is. really wins my choice for avalon instead.
Yes, it does, particularly beneath the floor. And the Luxury and Ultra Luxury trim levels have more soundproofing measures than other ES's.
Crazy.
Relax, it's touchscreen for 2022
Personally, I'd go for the Lexus.
I used to think Lexus is just a Toyota in a tux until I've actually got into a Lexus.
DWS388 is it a lot different than Toyota ?
Toyota needs to hire new design team both inside and out. I’m a Toyota guy for my daily drivers, but these cars are hard to look at IMO.
The ugly looks came from the Lexus side with HUGE front grill that makes the car look like a DEAD fish with the MOUTH left open.
I bought an Avalon and I really like it!
When buying a car, makes sure he can fit a body in the trunk. I like your style!

Heated rear seats in Avalon. Not available in the ES.

Louis Alonso Yeah three free oil changes where they use crappy bulk oil and overfill it. No thanks I’ll still do it myself
The Es is basically like a more refined version of the Avalon in all areas
i was cross shopping a 2020 avalon and a 2017 lexus the other day. something about the avalon just felt more, comfortable, idk. i also wasn’t a huge fan of that infotainment controls in the lexus either. overall i actually preferred the interior feel of the avalon, even though the lexus interior LOOKED nicer, it wasn’t as comfortable.
That's because both cars went to a new, upgraded architecture for 2019. You were comparing today's apples to yesterday's oranges.
To me, I really don’t like the look of full size sedans, so both seem pretty blah outside just because of the overall silhouette... but that interior In the Lexus looks loads better than the Avalon, and having been in some newer lexus’ vs Toyota’s, I can tell you the tactile feel of everything is worth the step up
Soft closing windows is not only on the Lexus it even on the old Avalon
I work for Toyota and it's getting more common. The Avalon, Highlander, Lexus ES, amd Lexus RX all have it. Im sure there are more, but that's all that comes through the distribution center that I work at that have it.
Isn't the ES way quieter on the inside? I wish you did a comparison of the interior sound level.
The choice between the Avalon and the ES350 depends on whether you want a car with a front end that looks like the megamouth shark look of the Toyota or the Predator look of the Lexus.
I think that the Lexus has a variation on a shark nose where the Toyota looks like a lady’s purse with a monogrammed buckle.
@@LlyleHunter I don't think anyone will ever accuse either one of being boring, ugly maybe, but not very attractive
Agreed - the folding seats are a big advantage! Unfortunately here in Australia, we only get the ES. ☹️
If it helps to explain anything, for 30 years the ES has had an extra brace behind the rear seatback to add structural rigidity instead of a larger pass-through.
Idk I think the grill on the Avalon even though it’s bigger grill looks way better than the es
Heck yeah👍🏽 that Avalon grill looks so good
I would go Avalon as well, just because I'm more of a Toyota person then a Lexus
Whats with the huge gaping front grille ... it's hideos especially on the Avalon. Other than that, it looks great.
Actual purchase price would be over $10k difference, u ain't getting $6-7k off msrp on a 2019 ES like u can on the 2019 Avalon.

Yet again most people don't buy both car.
The gaping maw looks like a pedestrian devouring feature.
From what I've read, the all-new Avalon isn't selling. I hope it won't be discontinued.
It actually is, believe it or not. Better than ever before.
@@thecriticalthinkeroutsidet4947 Nissan's flagship Maxima has been in freefall in terms of sales; the new generation Avalon is selling less than half of what the Maxima is. I love the Avalon, think it's beautiful and is a great value over the Lexus ES, it's better optioned than the Camry. However, the reality is that if this car doesn't move off dealer lots, it will go the way of the Cressida.
@@travelseatsyellowlab Let's hope not. Especially considering how much of a joke of a car the Maxima is..
Honda had a similar problem a few years ago with the Civic, which resulted in a short generation because the company couldn't afford to continue a slipping sales trend.
they just need to change the front bumper on the Avalon, then it'll sell. It lacks AWD but it has everything else going for it.
Lexus is more luxury amd stylish.
My 2013 Avalon Limited does that same trick with the windows slowing down at the top and bottom of the movement.
