You can save lots of battery in performance and turbo mode if you disable cpu boots in those profile while on battery. Of course it depends on the game, but I saw up to a 4w difference in the performance mode and every little thing counts.
That's a good point, I'm hoping since it's windows too people keep finding little things like that and then maybe Microsoft puat out a power profile for it. Even though Asus has taken a very good first stab at it.
Having it plugged defeats the whole purpose of you playing on the go , they need to come up with waaay better batteries otherwise why own this when you can get a laptop.
Its way more portable than a laptop. A gaming laptop will only get 30 min if your lucky if you play a AAA title. The Ally Z1 extreme is also cheaper than a laptop
Well you totally can, making sacrifices, but I see your point. I can only wish on 80Watts batteries, with a better tech to being small and have low weight
Depending on what you want to play the Deck does that easy. I’ll get nearly 8 hours when emulating GBA, and around 6-7 when emulating DS. Indie titles and older AAA games will give me 4 minimum.

The steam deck is more of a console, plug and play not much hassle, where as this device you'll need to be windows and asus software savvy. It's not for everyone. I've had it for a couple weeks now and I can say I'm on it more than my gaming rig lol! it's just nice to be able to play diablo 4 lying on my couch 😂

I wish it had an auto switch function.. so when I plug it in and it goes to turbo.. It goes to my turbo settings. And If I unplug it it goes to a lower profile you set up.
Maybe the $599 base Z1 Ally will have greater battery life and yet still be a step more powerful than the Steamdeck? Kinda on the fence here but I do have concerns about the reported ROG hardware issue. The dying SD card problem seems pretty bad. The other got yah's could be standard fair of Windows Update screwing you up. On my laptop I have many issues with the Xbox app changing the install locations for Gamepass. I also worry about what happens next with future Windows support. What if Windows 12 comes out and it requires more system ram. Has anyone tried Windows 10 on the Ally? Then there's the uncertainty of AMD drivers for this APU. At least Valve treats the deck as a console with it's own SteamOS which I hope can last over these newer Windows iterations. Otherwise I really love the freedom of having the full Windows experience to run everything but there are many caveats to consider in the long run. AynNeo offers 32GB of ram at a price too.
Many valid thoughts here. I would say, for things about hardware. Mine was totally fine and Asus has a great hardware warranty make sure you register it. On windows issues, I would say that it will have plenty of power to deal with OS modification for a while. Plus you can always roll back to stock and turn updates off. And if it's a comparison to other devices, this one is the most powerful you can buy currently. I think it's a great device but if you don't need the power go with the base model Deck.
I've dug deeper on the base Z1 it's definitely weaker than the Ryzen 5 7640U that's coming out which is 6 cores with 8 cu's vs Z1's 6 core and 4 cu's. That may mean the Z1 is a Radeon 740M vs 760M found on the 7640U. That's kind of a bummer comparing to the 780M 12cu's found in the Extreme or the 7840U. I only know of the GPD Win4 offering 6 core with 8cu's. Heck I'd be happy with a 6 core 6 cu's but 4 cu is going backwards.
@@DaveyG the base deck might be enough I guess to stream from a stronger pc and console for the price it offers. Amazon has cheap $15 256GB for the internal drive replacement even. I see some people even adding windows on it.

I just finished a 2 hours and 15 minutes FH5 session on my ARA running my APU on average of 8 watts and screen resolution 1080p @ a steady 120 fps max settings. Riddle me this? I just learned about this method a day ago but it appears as though this method has been around for some time. Streaming games from my gaming pc and also from my PS5 utilizing remote access and port forwarding on my router. These methods allow the pc/ps5 to do all the heavy lifting and the ARA to function as a 120hz screen with a joystick that can also run native game on a pinch if wifi is not available. Granted this may not be for everyone but tbh playing Jedi Survivor at an avg 90fps 1080p @ epic setting with ray tracing really shows the beauty of the ARA. PS5 @ 60 fps max'd setting on GT7 is sublime. Plenty of YoutTube videos on how to setup your ARA stream your pc/ps5. Cheers!
O yeah streaming is great, it really makes the device shine. Being able to do 1080 120 max setting in most games over wifi is sweet. You just need a great router!
