I had no idea, when I would listen to the original recording, that it was Aretha playing the piano. Lord have mercy!!!! That thing still makes your SOUL SHOUT!!!!!
I’m leaving this comment here because this song has transformed my life. And every time someone likes this comment I’m reminded I’m not alone and one more life has been transformed🎶🎶. MY GOD THANK YOU FOR YOUR LIMITLESS GRACE AND MERCY!
Me too.Tears of joy and amazement. The only other singer that does that to me is Al Green.Thats why to me they're the King and Queen of Soul music....their voices truly hits your soul.
Yasssss Ms Franklin... Oh it got personal at 4:04 (look around and ooooop) Yasssssss raw God given talent. What a magnificent voice... Rest well Auntie Aretha!!!
You obviously haven’t heard Carnatic music. Africa and India produce such incredible musicians in their classical styles that no one even know. They’ll run laps around any western singer. The entire vocal range is way further
She owned the moment. A genius at work. I bet the Angels in Heaven were told by God to stop singing when she took her seat at the piano, so he could hear Aretha's rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Waters. What a priceless treat. Now she's doing her thing at the feet of God's Throne. Rest Peacefully Queen.
Heaven,I wish our vocalists today can sing like this, yesterday's music is forever our tomorrow.this is pure education,he who has an ear will listen and learn from the masters,Heaven gained when we lost.
I was listening to this when hospice called to tell me that I didn't make it in time. My big brother was my bridge over all my troubled waters even at 56yo. RIP Guy T Clermont Sr.
Damn Aretha , you really Impacted several generations!!! This performance was before my mother was born in 1974 and the words and meaning still rang true in 1996 when I came to be and I’m now 25 this year and it only gets better with time , thank you for your sacrifice to make music for countless souls
I don't think there's a year going past I haven't seen this video I just love it love the song but watching her work and hearing her it's just so wonderful!
Only Aretha could put soul in this touching classic like that. Damn, she makes the hair on my body stand at attention. Continue R.I.P. Lady of soul 🙏. A fan from the beautiful, tranquil Islands of The Bahamas 🏝️🌅🏖️🇧🇸
@@mssbrown2787 Sis.........My goodness gracious. There is a reason why that was the only gospel album in our house growing up in the early 70's and it has been THE only gospel album I listen to now still 47 years later. To finally see the visual that was the album is a dream come true. I LOVED LOVED LOVED IT. I'm definitely trying to see it again before it leaves theater's next week.
I could listen to this as an instrumental ALLLLL DAY. Don't ever need words❣️❣️❣️ The words make this a PLUS!!!!! & yes, I'm crying like a big baby cause WHEW!
That intro is crazy. I was always a fan of S n G version but when I heard her version as a child. She brought the church to the streets and all across the world with this song or her version. Blessed You!
Yeahhhh 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. The whole perfomance 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. When in 1971 your on the living room floor in front of the record player listening to Aretha, checking every square inch of the album cover and your parent's tell you that she's the "BEST", believe them.
My mom passed away almost 5 years ago (10/2019) and I found her high school yearbook. She wrote that this was her favorite song. I started listening to this song on repeat in 2021 before learning it was her favorite. Makes me feel like this is now “our” song. I miss her so much it hurts.
The backing vocalists are so tight the queen knew how to choose people who made her shine so bright and clearly she wanted the audience to notice she had killer backing vocalists, what a queen she was, super talented even by today's standard
One of the greatest pianists of all time. I would argue that her touch on the keys was at least as good, if not better, than her vocal ability. Both were so natural and intrinsic to her overall talent.
I've never understood anyone's affection for the S&G version. It's pompous, overlong, white boy choir boy stuff. This version rips right to the heart of the matter of belief and why so many people do believe. I'm so glad this version exists in particular. It should really be on Amazing Grace as it's a testament to Aretha's arranging abilities. That bass when it comes! This Walks all over the actual vinyl version.
@@williamb6845 Yeah, but it's THEIR song. One must give credit to these talented lyricists for penning one of the greatest and most covered songs that's stood the test of time.
@@josephinebournes8212 I've just always thought it's over-rated and too soporific. But that's just me. I'm sure it's given lots of people comfort over the years. Th iij s is bangin' though. As we say in England!
Aretha voice is something that exists outside of space and time and communicates directly with your spirit. I'm crying and smiling at the same time watching this performance. Thank God for Aretha Franklin.
This is the "Queen of Soul" I grew up seeing and listening to sing. She was an amazing talent. I know she's gone from us now but oh how this video stirs the memories how what an awesome talent she was.
This is the version I grew up with..and even after discovering the original..This is My only go 2 when I think of this Song..at 55 still feel the same..😉
What a good pianist she was too. The whole package. Beautiful woman.
She was! Agree 100%.
God gave all of us truely remarkable gifts to give back to the world and serve and thank our heavenly father for.

Aretha Franklin voice is like a warm hug from your grandmother and it just tells you that everything is going to be alright.
I love what you've written and I agree but Aretha always looks so sad. She must have endured so much pain 🙏🏼💖
can confirm, i listen to these videos just to hear her voice when i miss her
Don't compare Aretha to NOBODY.
Factzzzzz
No one is talking about how perfect the three backup singer ladies' harmonization is
They're fire. Absolute fire.
A lineup of three savage sassy gospel singers is the most world's most beautiful sound.
Just so beautiful to my ears!❤❤
Without the backup singers, Aretha sounds like shit. 🤷🏽♀️
When all said and done, we are all sisters in Christ Jesus our savior🙏
Queenbee 😌
AMEN?!!!
Still Learning 🙄
She's playing the hell out of that piano at the beginning🎹🎶🎵🎼

This is close to perfection.
The backup singers are so spot on, and the drummer is so keyed in tight to what's going on.
her voice in this song rejuvenates my spirit when I'm down

Cannot go a day without listening and watching the best performance of my life.
Some of her Best Performances was when she danced her fingers across those keys. #Black&Gifted
You can't tell me nothing, Aretha Franklin was from another planet. It's virtually impossible for a human to be that great.

She strolled in like it was nothing and sung her soul out Jesus. RIP queen of soul Aretha ❤
And with that horn player in front of her chit chattin' away, she paid him no mind.
Goosebumps.
