I’m 65 and married once. I was proposed to 3 times in my life. I don’t ever want to marry again. I did once upon a time. One of several things I learned-it’s not a fantasy or fairytale. It’s hard work!
Aretha Franklin was a prime exam of what it means to reach the pinnacles of success. She began at a very young age, as a gospel singer. She never deviated from her gospel training and roots. I can't think of any songs she sang where her gospel roots are present. She showed the world that if the audience applauds your entrance with as much fervor as they do at the conclusion of your performance, you have to ne authentic. You have to be genuine. Many if not most black singers, began singing in the church. They make the mistake of abandoning their gospel roots. Aretha never did. Rest in eternal peace Ms Franklin
OMG. I saw her in concert at The Circle Star Theater in San Carlos, CA when I was 15 years old. I watched as her magnificent artistry brought grown men to tears. From age 8, my parents bought every album she released. Chris Cuomo on his CNN show on the eve of her passing said something so profound. He said "if you dont believe in God, thats your prerogative. But how could anyone hear Aretha sing and not know there must be a God"? Soon after her passing, NPR radio aired an interview Aretha did with Terry Gross. At the conclusion of the interview, Terry said of Aretha, "she's the greatest singer of the 20th and 21st century, and perhaps one of the greatest of all time. We miss you Aretha. Rest in eternal peace

No singer anywhere can compare to this iconic woman. She was one of a kind and there will never be another like her. I bow to Queen Aretha Franklin with the utmost respect. God gave her a beautiful gift and we were blessed to be able to witness and hear it first hand. That voice, OMG, that voice❤️
I listen to this and feel she’s singing about political changes… reminiscent of Martin Luther King Jr., and John F. Kennedy. Only she could take a Stage and make everything including the audience tiny.

The magnificence of Aretha is that her song tells about the joy she founded over many sufferings in her life without words. Clearly she is blessed and she is the blessing for all the mankind.
I have watched this so many times. Just a glorious live performance by a woman so gifted by God, that we should feel honored and humbled to have witnessed her in our lifetime.
Ms. Morgan James can stand beside her- "Oh me, oh my" and "Come Together"( Her idols are Aretha and Nina and she can change her voice to operatic soprano.
In my life I have heard many singers live including Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Peggy Lee, Judy Collins, Joan Baez, Bette Midler, Marlene Dietrich, Joan Sutherland, Maria Callas and many others in many genres. One of my finest memories is a concert that Aretha Franklin did in Milwaukee. She had the power to make you feel she was singing just for you even in an outdoor stadium with an audience of 60,000.
She looked absolutely ethereal here, especially with the way her dress flows in the wind. I'd like to imagine this Aretha being the one singing in the heavenly choir.
I'm very pleased to know I'm not the only one that loves her songs, how often do you like to listening to her songs. She remains the Queen of soul, a great artist, with lovely voice. RIP Legend.
You could scour the entire earth and never, ever find another singer as gifted and talented as Ms Aretha Franklin. What a grand lady she was. Rest In Eternal Peace Queen
Not true. Even Whitney said she had the best voice of all time !!! They were very close. Whitney's mom was a back up singer of the great Aretha Franklin .
I remember this magical moment there in my den in my sweet country Jamaica, watching this performance. Truly, this great woman has breached boundaries and covered ground most of us can only dream to. May her gift continue to be the hallmark of true racial pride for us NEGROES. We have so much to be proud of in spite of the abuses of slavery and the Queen of Soul is a unique treasure to the black race first and then to the world. God bless you Madame!!! Thank you immensely!!! You light up my life.
Beautiful true words Sean... Some of us had and have to face incredible inhumanity! Until today! Also in the future, people will have to fight for her freedom, for peace and against slavery because it seems to me, we are all in danger to be suppressed by a modern global slavery and neocolonialism! So lets take each other by the hand and lets all stand together against every kind of inhumanity in this world created by an inhuman global system. God bless you and your family for always. God bless us everyone...
I had a dream of a woman who came in the world with great song. She taught me Jesus is a love song. We all had that dream. I love you Mrs Aretha Franklin, to God be the glory.
This to me was her most grand performance - so regal, graceful, the vocals were amazing, her dress and coat were stunning, she was performing for heads of state... she was every bit the definition of the world QUEEN!
I am amazed still at the depth of the gift that is Aretha Franklin. Though she's no longer on this plane, we are still blessed to be able to enjoy her.
She was a magnificent person and performer. I grew up loving her, and now as an older lady, I realize how much talent she has always possessed. Such an inspiration to young singers, such a lady. I still play those old soul music records and reminisce.

She was incomparable. What a masterpiece of a gift and variety of treasures she left us with. No one else can measure up. Jennifer Hudson is near the capacity but Mama Retha captured the soul. A chosen few can do that in a lifetime.
This was a PERFORMANCE, top to bottom. She made an entrance; her performance had movement; there were subtle costume changes; musically, it had a beginning, middle, and end; she controlled the pace and measured her volume according to the lyrics; it decrescendo and crescendos. It had modulations, melismas, and runs. Masterful.
Watching how the performance evolves is fascinating. From the bow at the beginning to dropping the coat in the most elegant way possible, the moving air billowing her gown, the song intensifying, the choir, the big finish. It's very operatic. THIS is why we have and always will call her the Queen.
Aretha Franklin will go down in the history of American music as one of the greatest black vioces of her time yet one of the most under-recognised singer, entertainer, performer of her time. That fine woman had a voice with power and style that was uniquely Aretha Franklin. R I P Babe.
Just when you think it can't get any better, it does. I have played this many times and every time I get goosebumps and tears in my eyes. Wow. This woman can sing!
Aretha would never condescend on any, but even Taylor, Whitney, Mariah, Cher, Dolly, they all emerge from the Aretha Aura, shining their own lovely lights, they all shall pass into the ether, eventually, but, the Voice, it IS ETERNAL, THE DREAM LIVES ON, THANK YOU!
I've been playing this song OVER, & OVER AGAIN, along with a FEW MORE! I just can't get enough of Aretha! Being a 70 yr old, all my music on Aretha are on 78's and 45's .......... mostly 78's .... albums! The very 1st time I got intoxicated, was listening to her I never Loved the Man the Way I Loved You! She is just BEAUTIFUL here, singing this song, Looking like the Queen and Princess SHE IS! God is Blessing & Loving on your Soul & Spirit Aretha, it's just sad, that we no longer have the pleasure of your physical appearance!
Only the Creator can send a true messenger to minister to the soul of so many in so many different ways and in so many places. Aretha was sharing with us the way she made it through the landmines of her life.Even if you can not sing a note, her songs were a ministry to the soul and spirit and they made your heart sing. All praise be to Jesus Christ for allowing our lives to be blessed with this sister in Christ great gift. Rest Aretha until that day!
Rebecca Johnson, I do believe the only 78 record of Aretha would be the recording of her singing gospel as a child at 14 years old . If I recall, 78`s went out by the time she signed her first recording contract with Columbia records so from that time onward that would have been 45`s and Lp`s .
This woman was truly gifted and gift to the world. Possibly the greatest singer of all time. You know you got it going on when you receive a standing ovation before you sing the very first note. Rest in eternal peace queen
Your all can have your opinions but this brilliant musical genius has done more career paving and has set tone in every genre of music. One thing you must understand about Aretha is her story. Imagine loosing your Dad who told you that you would sing before kings, queens, and presidents then judge the emotional state of this artist who went on to be greatness without being able to share such moments with her dad who motivated her to be Queen of soul... then talk about the performance!!!
just a small rebuttal, I'm not sure your time period for witch you base this statement on; while it sounds good, this sound bite isn't factual!. Aretha and her dad where able to spend time together when she became a great gospel singer. it was only when she decided to sing non-gospel did her father give her the blues and silent treatment, however when she started GIVEN HIM MONEY for his church, he seemed to hear the voice of god tell him speak to Aretha, and that was to say 'I NEED MORE MONEY'. She'll never do it, but I wish she'll write a tell all trilogy; 'life with ARETHA before started recording gospel', life with Aretha after started recording gospel, and life with Aretha Franklin after beginning singing secular music.
Sir I'm a genuine fan who been to concerts where she states that her father said she would perform for kings queens and presidents. She became emotional and it's always this song or impossible dream where she would make this comment. It's a performance on here where she sings impossible dream and you will understand where I'm coming from. I just asked that people respect who she is and what impact she has made in music. All the bickering bs save for fb
When she sang "he took my childhood" and then started to take off her coat it was such a well coordinated in sync approach to deliver the emotion needed for that very phrase she sang. Such a pro and a class act💯🙌🏻❤
Oh how beautiful to hear God's Angels Singing first thing this morning! Marian Anderson would be proud! Happy African American Music Appreciation Month
I've been privileged to see many of the true female greats, Whitney, Tina, Nina, Dusty, but the two that Ive seen individually, that would have been mesmerising to see together were Aretha and Mama Africa, Miriam Makeba..
What a God sent talent! A beautiful, silent soul. She will be missed but with a comforting thought, she shared her talent with respect and dignity with all of us.

Like will never hear sung again. She does not only sing the song. She lives It and pulls you into it as well. Damn I am 80 why am I crying?
I'm 62 and I pray there's never a day her music doesn't bring me to tears!
Me, too....
Its ok to Cry❤❤❤
It’s October 24,2024. This doesn’t get old.
I always liked Aretha Franklin's music, but I never knew what an incredible voice she had until I heard her sing this. Simply beautiful.
Someone who really knew how to put meaning and passion into a song and did not really on gimmicks but just on her sheer raw singing talent.

RIP Aretha. What a loss the world doesn’t make these type of legends no more. True talent 💔💛
I'm listening. I could listen everyday . She was a true treasure . We were blessed to had had her for the years she gave us on earth.❤
What an inspirational performance. Thank God for her gift to the world! 🙌🏼
Hello Madonna, it’s absolutely a beautiful song with memories... hopefully you’re having a pleasant time?
This woman was truly gifted and gift to the world. Possibly the greatest singer of all time.
You know you got it going on when you receive a standing ovation before you sing the very first note.
Rest in eternal peace queen
A true DIVA! that voice. the control. Everything. The one, the irreplaceable Aretha Franklin!
The last 25 seconds were LITERALLY vocalist perfection. AMAZING!
When I was young I dreamed a dream. Now I know that it's coming true for me still at the age of 75. THERE IS TRULY A GOD.
YES, there is truly a GOD, sister! Blessings to you
This woman is the ultimate in what soul is.❤️💞Fantastic.
PERFECTION on Stage. Nothing more to add. Impossible to match such a voice!!!
+malcolm hampton amazing comment:( made me cry lol
just a small rebuttal, I'm not sure your time period for witch you base this statement on; while it sounds good, this sound bite isn't factual!.
All the bickering bs save for fb
good vidio Mobile jk

Yes indeed and at this time I have nothing much to say. Aretha was everything to me as a kid. Thank you again everyone.
And what a gorgeous dress! Aretha looks great in yellow with diamonds and pearls!

Well said. A magical voice
I've been privileged to see many of the true female greats, Whitney, Tina, Nina, Dusty, but the two that Ive seen individually, that would have been mesmerising to see together were Aretha and Mama Africa, Miriam Makeba..

Ms, Lady is still a Queen. so elegant. Spiritually, she heals me this morning. I still waiting for my dreams. still. I am hopeful. God bless.
What a God sent talent! A beautiful, silent soul. She will be missed but with a comforting thought, she shared her talent with respect and dignity with all of us.
