I had ADCF surgery on my C5-C6 six weeks ago, on April 18, 2024, and I have severe burning nerve pain from my neck down into my left hand. The pain is intense and the pain management doctor prescribed Gabapentin. 🤦🏽‍♂️

So I was looking for a surgery recovery update and spent the initial 15 minutes hearing complains about your kids. This is EXACTLY why no-one should look for medical information on the internet.

I’m in my 5th day of ACDF SURGERY. I HAVE A SPASM IN MY SHOULDER WING AND HEAT IN MY ARM. BEFORE THE SURGERY THAT ARM A D WING WERE FINE. DO YOU THINK THIS WILL GO AWAY?

I had ACDF 5-7, the best thing I did for my muscle spasms was deep tissue massages every 2 weeks, every week would have been better. In NC insurance doesn't pay for massage, it was all out of pocket.

Is there anyway you could hire someone to clean for you a few times a week? I don’t mean this in a rude way. I am just like you. I have over done it also. After one of my surgeries I over did it and had to have another surgery because of it. Please be kind and gentle on yourself. It’s hard being the mom and being use to doing it all. Best of luck on your healing.

Thank you so much, Angela!! That’s actually a great suggestion! I don’t know why I haven’t thought to do that. That’s me thinking I still have to do it all. Opening my mind to outsourcing my basic jobs as a stay at home mom is new for me. 😂 I’m going to talk to my husband about it today. Thank you for the suggestion! 🤗💕

I finally had my acdf surgery and just wanted to ask a few questions. I had mine in April 27th. I felt really good afterwards then came home the next day. About day 4 I started getting these severe muscle spasms and nerve pain. Over the last few days it just getting worse. I am taking my medicine, but did you have any of this and if so how long before it started to get better? Thank you so much for your help. Wishing you the best

Yes!! I did! I even asked my doctor about it. He said it’s likely from the muscles adjusting. He said that it takes the muscles 8 weeks to heal and adjust from the surgery. I am about 10 weeks post op now and I’d say the 8 week mark was really life changing for me! I feel a world of a difference! Im still not 100% because I feel really good so I tend to overdo it (doing all kinds of things I not supposed to) but after a short rest and a few hours on my back I’m generally much better. Praying for your healing and a successful recovery!

@@necksurgerymama3157 thank you. I have to go see my regular doctor today. I am going to see if we can change my medicine to something else. I am not sleeping at all. The pain is getting worse not better at all. Last night I couldn’t sleep because if I lay my head down my jaw and ear hurt so bad. I am so happy you are doing better. I just telling myself one day at a time.

@@angelaoren1344 oh no! I hate to hear that! I also had jaw and ear pain in the first few weeks but it was on and off and mild. I have a friend who had an ACDF surgery that was done by a different doctor and she developed TMJ a couple of weeks after surgery. I am praying this will go away for you! 🙏🙏🙏 Let me know what your doctor says!

@@necksurgerymama3157 my doctors are Having me continue to take the medicine they gave. They upped the muscle relaxer, but it still isn’t getting any better. They said they don’t want to give me anything that helps the inflammation because that cause cause problems with the bone fusion. They said a x ray wouldn’t really help because all they would see is inflammation. I will be 3 weeks on Wednesday and I am in so much pain. The nerve pain is worse than before the surgery. Maybe this will be the worst of it and I will start to feel better soon. Thank you for listening. Have a great weekend

@@angelaoren1344 this is so sad to hear!!! I want to know the why. Did they say this is a common side effect? You are the second person to have told me about this happening to them and I don’t remember this ever being told to me as a possible side effect. 💔 You are in my prayers! 🙏🙏🙏 Keep me posted!

Did you say ligaments turning to bone? You might want to look into where you might have D.I.S.H. Disease.
