"Why is there a circle" made me chuckle. Those are "pits". People run around during really fast and heavy songs and hit each other. Sounds dumb from my explanation, but it's a fun way to get energy out

      @gwaptiva 4 роки тому +70

Think the circle pits started because they're slightly safer than mosh pits. At least, back when I went to gigs there were only mosh pits, and then I noticed that many artists didn't like them (I remember Bruce Dickinson getting rather miffed at us for moshing -- they shouldn't have asked Anthrax to open for them :D )

10:27 I just watched The Charismatic Voice's interview with Tatiana and she is a completely intuitive singer. She doesn't know how she does it and she lives as if it's a separate entity who has it's own will. She seems to embrace the soul of what you said here. (I'm just blown away she self-taught and hasn't destroyed her voice, contrarily it seems she just intuitively knows what is healthy.)

Agree. And I think I already know what you may criticize ... a few times, when she inhales, she's lifting her shoulders, which is a thing that voice coaches usually don't recommend AFAIK.
Depending on when that "special guest" session will be, you could do "I Speak Astronomy" and/or "Teacher, Teacher" in between. For both songs, I would recommend the official video. For "I Speak Astronomy" there is a good live video available, but the official video is just too good to miss it, and for "Teacher, Teacher" I only found mobile phone recordings where especially the audio quality is too bad.
And remember to watch any video until the *very* end.

@@jvoxfox It's the seasonal cycle, nature "dying" during fall and winter and eventually resurrecting during spring. The songs double meaning has to do with her seasonal depression, which also starts in fall / winter times, and goes away during spring. Little fun fact, the original song lyrics repeat "no we're not dead, no we're not dead", but during live shows like this she says "no we're not dead, no you're not dead", to address the crowd directly. She interacts a lot with them, especially on the smaller shows where she's closer to the crowd, like touching their hands or having them sing along.

How could anybody not like this enough to actually "push the like button"! I am relatively new here and would like to share a few thoughts I have been collecting while catching up with your videos (so sorry for the length of the message):
    - One thing I truly like about your channel that I think differentiates it from so many others, is the fact that you don’t hold nor keep anything to yourself. The good things and the bad things are all highlighted here! When you notice a flaw (which everybody has every now and then) you point it out so we all can learn how to notice them on our own.
    - Two things I love about your reactions: they are as spontaneous/honest as they come, but also are very professional/objective. You are just as knowledgeable as candid! You can easily go from the brink of tears with Nightwish to whatever happened to you with Jinjer (Piscis), going through very deep and professional analysis of “simple” things with Ayreon. Amazing!
    - Which takes me to the final one: probably we all are here for the vocals! But you know so much of so many other things in music... The little jewels you drop from time to time on instrumentation, time signatures, musicianship, equalization, stage presence, emotion… Please, keep sharing all of those with us! They are truly invaluable.
Finally, in some other videos’ comments you asked if your explanations are “too technical”… My humble opinion is that it could be a matter of terminology, maybe. So, of you could walk us through the relations, equivalence, differences between concepts and terms, I think that would help a lot. For example, what is the relation between first or second register and head voice or chest voice. That kind of stuff.
Oh, by the way… Love the fact you are enjoying symphonic/melodic metal! I personally believe it is such a rich genre and it presents so many opportunities for you to talk about all those thinks you know… THANK YOU, Julia!

Couple tidbits for you - Tati used to say those spoken lines at the beginning on earlier tours when this song was new, but eventually they moved it to the back-track. Jinjer often talks about how their sound engineer "Sasha" is like the fifth member of the band - he works so closely with them and helps Tati pick out what vocal harmonies to put on the back-track, etc. You can also see her mess with her in-ear monitor a lot. She has said it's difficult to make that always work well. And sometimes her pitch will suffer from in-ear monitor "block-out", where the music/noise volume outside her in-ear monitor masks her live pitch, so again Sasha helps by putting key elements in her (and the bands) in-ears. Vlad the drummer usually starts/stops the tracks from his throne.
I hope you make Jinjer a regular "stop" on your reaction journey, as they literally have no bad songs, and are a gold mine of progressive metal songs, full of great controlled mayhem and raw beauty!!

Julia… I love to watch reaction videos and yet you are the only person I am subscribed to. Your insights are fantastic and your love of music is very prominent. I read somewhere that Tatiana suffers from Seasonal Affective Disorder and this song is her effort to bring attention to it. I know this reaction is over a year old but I’ve watched it again and again just cause I love how you are so moved by it.

5:45 The circle is called a "mosh pit" where the crowd is "moshing/slam dancing/slamming," which is described as: "a style of dance in which participants push or slam into each other, typically performed to "aggressive" live music. Moshing usually happens in the center of the crowd, generally closer to the stage, in an area called the "pit". It is intended to be energetic and full of body contact."

Perennial is a type of plant that comes back every year. I believe she is talking about the death and decay for the plant during the fall (just enjoying coma) just to rise again in the spring. The expressed dynamic from the musicians and Tat in this song are spot on. The beauty of earths nature also includes death and decay.

You my dear, is just amazing in your ability to absorb and understand music.
As an avid metal fan - for the past 35 years or so -I must say that I soooooooo enjoy your breakdowns of, not only the vocal qualities but also the musical qualities of a group or performer (or band or whatever you want to call it) as a whole .
Taste in music comes down to personal preferences, of course, but there's also a degree of objective "truth" to both the construction of a piece of music as well as the delivery of it.
After have seeing some of your reaction videos (of bands in the realm of progressive and/or symphonic metal), I am truly uplifted by how you, not only read up on what you are going to react to, but also how you hear, feel and understand the different time-signature, mood and feel changes that is essential to the type of music that bands like Jinjer, Nightwish and what have you, are playing (although considerably different in their musical styles).
Just keep on doing what you are doing and many of us "metal heads", regardless of what our favourite band mighjt be, will keep getting back to your channel.

every now and then you find a Unique Talent that will not be denied their spot in Music. Jinjer just need to the exposure. They have gotten it, but if they existed back in the big arena days, you'd be hearing about them for decades and to be honest, you just may will be hearing about them for that long. It's not over yet.

I found your comment about her looking like she was resurrecting something very interesting because that is spot on. The lyrics in that part say "from the ashes of my roots the new me will rise to live again". When I first saw some of their live performances I never thought about it, I just thought she was really animated on stage, but I slowly realized that the movements she makes on stage are not random or spontaneous, they are in fact quite calculated, she is actually acting out the lyrics of the song. To me that shows that she truly lives and breathes these songs, they come from the soul. Some lyrical segments are more abstract, so acting them out has to be more interpretive, but if you watch closely, almost everything she does on stage is connected to the lyrics in every video.
As for the lyrics of this song, it describes the way her seasonal depression feels through the metaphor of a perennial flower (and by extension nature as a whole) that dies in the fall, sleeps in a coma through the winter, then is reborn in the spring. The lyrics are truly remarkable and powerful and I could talk for days about them but i'm trying to keep it shorter.
One thing that really impressed me but you might have missed (since you didn't play the video all the way through) was how absolutely winded and exhausted she was after the song, she could barely get a few words out, yet during the song her breath control was perfect, there was no indication whatsoever that she was exhausted like she clearly was. She even goes so far as to hold notes for 11 seconds, having many long sections of singing with so little room to breathe in between. That blows my mind.
Yeah she said she doesn't really warm up, or take care of her voice; her defense was that she is basically always warmed up because of how often she is performing or just singing. She also said that she smokes and drinks, which she admitted was not good. She didn't really defend that, she was thankful that her body seems to be fairly resilient and could handle it and that no doubt a time will come when she will have to make changes. She told people not to try and be like her and do what she does because she is a bad example and basically has just been lucky so far.

Tatiana is an incredibly talented, beautiful, gifted, powerful female artist, songwriter (her lyrics are actually incredible storytelling, with supernatural elements and fantasy, almost Tolkien like), singer, performer, and front woman killing it in a historically and overwhelmingly male dominated musical genre. She’s a bad ass. And hella empowering. The bands musicality and instrumentation is also phenomenal. They’re very tight and precise. They’re a great band. And Tatiana fronts it with total ease and hypnotic, engaging emotion and physicality.

I remember this really fondly. Stumbled upon Pisces a few weeks earlier and was DELIGHTED to see they were on the line-up that year. First time catching them live and this was a great closer for an amazing set. I can't help but point out the instrumentals any time Jinjer are playing anywhere. Her vocals and the instrumentals are just so great each on their own, the combination feels out of this world. Circle pits are just for energy release which I guess you can understand from the way you keep moving and visibly enjoy the experience.
