Vega has crazy scalability and is incredibly efficient at low clocks. APUs were 'ok' options before, but with the current market, AM4s longevity, and the Ryzen APU performance, these look like great recommendations for budget builders. I think I speak for everyone when I say we appreciate all the work you put into this Steve.

    RIP g4560 + 1030...

    • @TT-cf8dz
      @TT-cf8dz 6 років тому

jordan santos Why? Because GT 1030+G4560 it's cheaper than a ryzen 5 2400g? Plus, at 2400g u need tot put 2997+Mhz RAM which is expensive. And with 8gb RAM, 2 is used by gpu, and u can have memory leak, in some games. And with overclock, u can overclock that GT 1030 with 240mhz ar core and max 1000 or 900mhz at memory, at 750mhz it's stable. So this combination isn't dead. Ryzen 3 2200g it's good for extremly low budget, but a lower performance than a GT 1030.

Wow dude... one word I got in mind, Impressive!! Your, and AMD's job. Hands down, one of the greatest and most thorough videos you could find on the internet. And those chips.. I could only imagine growing up with one of those at hand. To put it in words: "You actually are able to game on an internal GPU!"... Never honestly thought I'd say that.
I mean, especially comparing the results with what Intel has to offer, lol, it's embarrassing for Intel, and I love it!

    • @jodiebennett3708

Intel isn't embarrassed, they've know for years it was garbage. They already started replacing it with the Radeon Vega, which they showed off at CES ( Linus did a video on it)... I'd like to know how the AMD APU with Vega compares to the Intel CPU with Vega

yottaXT, they didn't really leave Intel behind. Rather this is the first shoe
to drop. The other shoe is the i7 8809 with vega graphics. This chip will be even better although I think it will only be in specific applications. This betting said, I just bought both ryzen APUs today and I'm super excited to test them. I also pre-ordered the Hades canyon nuc which will come next month with the Intel chip. I think this is a win win for amd and Intel.

Hardware Unboxed again doesn't fail to impress!!! The reviews were great and the slight departure into memory scaling and overclocking were great bonuses I hadn't expected until future videos. I'd seen a couple of other written and video reviews, but none had touched on everything I wanted to know (vs discrete / vs igpu, price to performance, and the important memory price consideration proviso). This video was a one stop shop to having a pretty good overall read on these chips. *slow clap*

Great job on the video, Steve. This is honestly the best review I have seen today, and I have been waiting to see the performance of these chips for ages. My question, however, is what level of graphics dedicated memory you used. On a similar video by JayzTwoCents, he showed a large difference between a 512 MB and 2 GB video buffer. Considering the amount of work out into this video, I would see it as unfair to ask for more, but this one piece of knowledge would really help me get a good system running.

Fantastic job Steve, just the video i was looking for - i watched others and though wtf is this? then finally found some sense right here! great review, proper comparisons, and very much appreciated. Like many others here I'd love to see what these things can do with both CPU and GPU overlocked :-)

Thank you for comparing with the 1030! I watched 4 videos (that all tested with the 1050Ti) before finally finding someone who actually compared apples to apples. Thank you!

Props to you. Finally. Someone who compared the integrated graphics. Paul's Hardware thought it fit to compare to a 1050ti with an 8700k! You got it right and very few did. 2200g and 2400g vs g4560, 8100, 8350k. The ones that matter and are relevant.

I think if you need all 8 threads, don't want a dGPU, and/or want to be more future proofed, then the 2400G is the APU to go for.
But, if you're looking for the best value for a budget gaming PC then the 2200G is the better option. The money you save on it can be put towards getting a 16 GB kit and thus alleviating memory usage concerns.

  • @Akash77133

I think ryzen 3 2200g is more interesting than the 2400g.cause its giving slightly slower performance of a gt 1030 but an very interesting price point of 99$.
    A similar cpu+gpu config
    G4560+ gt 1030 = 160$
    Ryzen 3 2200g = 99$
Yes its a bit slower than the gt 1030 but I'm saving 60$ here
With 60$ i can also go for a budget b350 mobo like asrock b350m or gigabyte one's which is also oc capable.

Great work as always. I'm interested how much further you could overclock the Vega graphics though. Still, I'm surprised that the $99 2200G can achieve RX 550/GT 1030 performance with a simple overclock using the stock cooler. In many places, the RX 550 and GT 1030 retail as much as the 2200G costs.

The DDR4 scaling looks really good, especially when a poor RX 550 adds only 4 fps.
I wonder if the FPS gains and cost of a 1060 on top of those APU are really better than an investment from 8 gig of ram to a 16gig of ram. Can ram sticks be the new graphic card ?
