Congratulations on the rescue! Amateur status is gone out the window...you're a PROFESSIONAL! You keep getting better and better and better. Love this to pieces! Christina, those boxes look perfect for vinyl record storage. People are always looking for storage for their records. Keep them modern and they will sell like hot cakes. BLACK!! Also, you could decoupage some rock band images on some of the boxes. Stay safe and always know that you are appreciated! Ken

.... OOOOO!!! I love that idea Ken 🙏💙💙
That is brilliant! Vinyl record collection!
Definitely modern with a twist and fun!
I also have an old high five stereo system in perfect condition from the mid 70’s , the stereo’s that were made with real wood casing and a vinyl player in it that still works beautifully! It has been calling out for for a similar makeover but a hint of retro vibe needs to still remain lol 😂
I so miss vinyl ( I do have some) but it’s still the best! Thank you so much for your kind feedback and support 🙏🎨💙

I've watched this twice now. Such a great tutorial. I love that you used an image you found online, printed it and used it as decoupage. I always think tissue paper must be used and it gets quite expensive if you order from the States snd have it shipped to Italy. Making the cabinet lighter was a great choice. I can't believe you found it on the side of the road. ❤️🙏

Wow. Just wow. I'm meticulously watching your videos one after another and enjoying it immensely. Have seen a lot of tutorials on chalk paint but so far yours are the best. Not only your expertise and artistic talent but your personal charisma, intelligence and soothing voice - plus your husband's input as a bonus :) Nice seeing you two together. Thank you so much.

Beautiful Christina! I just finished my first chalk paint project and I used Old Violet and Coco on a base of Country Grey with Honfleur and dark wax. Turned out fabulous if I say so myself! Love the light wax you used on the darker colors! I’ll remember that little trick for sure! I see your little box table in a bright shadowy color. Well that turned out lovely, very interesting, a unique, one-of-a-kind piece. Definitely was vintaged artfully. For those black boxes you'd like to make modern... use painters tape to create various geometric shapes at random. Paint inside the tape making each shape a different color. When you remove the tape, the black will be lines between the color shapes.and that black will match the legs. Another style would be like Jackson Pollack, splatter color on the body, then paint the top a bright color using high gloss like lacquer. Then a high gloss colorless urethane on top.

What a transformation! Christina it is beautiful!🥰
Love the decoupage and you know how I feel about the fly speck! Some bright yellow speck would have been nice too
Thank you also for mentioning the zebra brush, I always wonder what brushes to purchase.
Now, as for the boxes. . The legs have a very modern look if you are going to sale the boxes maybe a bright lime green with a fade to a soft yellow center? But if your keeping them, maybe lem lem, French linen and the brown with a ragging finish?
For some reason green just screams modern to me. . . Lol
Thank you for sharing your journey with this beautiful piece!

... you have amazing ideas 💡
I really like the bright colours for those storage boxes with the pin legs. I find I am getting mixed up with what people on UA-cam want to see? I have seen so many fantastic channels with my more simple makeovers even using one colour and new hardware and having much more success with their channels ?
I am wondering if maybe I am doing to much ?
Don’t get me wrong they have done a beautiful job and it is a lot of work but maybe if I give simpler ideas? What do you think? I am thinking to much lol 😂
I just love making projects that give more that a colour a change , I want to add a new character with the paint 🎨.
Maybe I should just have another wine 🍷 lol 😂
I really appreciate your thoughtful feedback and comment 🙏💙 many thanks Nikki 💙

@@TheReclaimedHeirloom Christina, you paint how and what way you like to, that is what draws people to you. Anyone can slap on paint and new hardware and call it a makeover. You teach skills, you have a talent that people need to see. If you want to go simple once in a while, then go simple. But its like Kaćha says, "listen to your art" paint how you want, this is your channel, paint what pleases you. Your fans will always be here. I hope that helps. . Have another glass of wine🍷 and just smile at all the beautiful projects and fabulous talents you have shared with us❤

Whatever you decide to do will look great, anyway. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

... lol 😂 you were right though, I did mispronounce “Mod”
I do my voiceovers so late at night I have to be more careful of my pronunciations lol 😆
I have done that with a few words along the way! I will say “modge” as a joke from now on to keep the humour alive just between our and I 😉💚

Beautifully done, Stunning piece, so brilliant how you designed your piece. I too have pieces like this with the veneer lifted and damaged. I too have been curious what to do with them. Actually I have almost the same piece you have done here, mine doesn't have the cupboard on the bottom but has legs. Your piece looks amazing, brilliant upcycle. It looks like an Old World French piece. Your other piece, there's a wonderful creater, Dazzling Designs by Denise, she does some amazing things with similar pieces, check out what she does with a past it's prime stereo cabinet with glass doors, she turned it into an on trend gorgeous rolling bar cart. Denise is amazing with her creativity and trendy designs. 💕Tfs, great tips and inspiration, have a happy week.

@@TheReclaimedHeirloom Hi, thanks so much for responding, I've been thinking about your techniques and pieces, you have me quite inspired. I am a bit intimadated with using the various colors of waxes, I'm not familiar yet with any. Please share where you found your images. I do plan on using some very old family pics too. You are an amazing creater, 💕loove your work. So glad you went over to Denise's channel. She made gorgeous pieces out of simple cabinets. I love her creativity. Putting those hair pin legs on your little cabinet looks great, I love those. I was thinking of painting mine a brass/gold color for an updated look. Us creaters just bounce all over. I've been watching many of your videos, they are addicting! , didn't want to bombard you with comments. Beautifully done stunning pieces. I looove the uniqueness of each one. 💕So nice to chat with you and I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. 🌺Happy Monday

Wow! Just stunning! You are supremely creative and talented! 2 questions: how did you paint the hardware? Apart from burning- any other ways to soften and blend the edges of decoupage images? Could I lightly sand them?

Thank you so much Diane 🙏💙 I appreciate your kind feedback and I honestly search on google for art styles , folk art, old artists and Early 1800 century art and painters and just search at images , I see so many fantastic art images and textures in the images for decoupage ideas! Sometimes I will look at Pinterest as well and you can find lots of beautiful decorative ideas 💡 😉

Boxes with hairpin legs just screams mid century mod, I would suggest maybe some decoupage with mid century art design or mid century atomic art design .. I deal in a lot of mid century vintage decor pieces and dishware, and its HOT right now.. and because gravel art was such a big design element in mid century art.. I think your salt wash done heavy fits the box.. just a thought..

Your welcome, also something really Art Deco might be fun, with the 100 yr coming up on Art Deco design, already you can see elements of Art Deco decor hitting the Bix box hardware stores. And its selling well in vintage resell.

In a previous tutorial, if I remember correctly, you mentioned that you did a clear glaze layer BEFORE you did the glaze with paint. Any reason why you didn't on this piece and do you recommend one method over another?

    • @TheReclaimedHeirloom
      @TheReclaimedHeirloom  4 роки тому +1

.... adding clear glaze first is to help anyone who is new to chalk painting and or decorative finishes allowing more control over the paint , if you need to remove it the clear glaze application first will allow you to do that! 😉
This piece I knew I won’t be removing any of the colour design I originally had mapped out I just wanted to add more depth and textures with the colour mix with glaze. If you are ever in a situation where you are unsure of the colour pattern or you think you might want to change your colour design then definitely add clear glaze first then add you glaze with colour mix so you have more control where you want your colours to be added. I hope this helps!
I generally tell people to add clear glaze first only because I may change my mind but in this case I knew I wasn’t changing the colour design. Clear glaze is almost the same idea as clear wax, if you apply clear wax first you can remove any other wax colours if you change your mind. I hope this helps and it’s actually an excellent question and I think I will talk more about that for others on my next chalk paint 101 next week! As I want people to feel comfortable with clear glaze and all glazes as they are amazing to work with and give amazing effects to decorative finishes🤗💙💙

Hi Christina, in one of your tutorials giving 10 tips on how to use chalk paint one point you mentioned was that one should always use a primer first on any wood piece before using chalk paint which I don't see you doing. Is there a reason for this?

    • @TheReclaimedHeirloom
      @TheReclaimedHeirloom  Рік тому

      Good question!
I think that so many people recycle ♻️ old furniture and don’t have a history where it was or what has been used onto the piece.
The issues that happens with old wood is the overall condition and it’s difficult to tell if the wood has a lot of oil varnishing so sometimes it will bleed through the paint.
Sometimes I can tell (not always) if the furniture piece will need a primer first.
I get lots of comments about this issue regarding furniture so I like to tell others if you are sure just prime your old or found furniture pieces to save time and paint.
Chalk paint is very thick and covers almost every surface but in some cases the products used including stains will make it difficult and if anyone is unsure 🫤 it’s best in these times to just add a primer base.
If it’s your own piece of furniture or really good condition you generally don’t ever need to prime your furniture before chalk paint.
I just everyone to have as much success with their projects as possible!
So to answer as many comments as I get, I prefer to advise primer only because I don’t the history of their projects 🤗♥️♥️
      I hope this helps!

I usually paint on canvas boards, so I have to find the right furniture piece to try it on 😊🙏🎨❤️
