That's a rare shot of a rivnut goin in!
I just recently purchased this one and love it. Used it on quite a few projects now. Wish I would have gotten one sooner.
@@PostalRedneck yeah, I’ve used the heck outa mine.
Great video! I'm looking to do swap the 263XHD to the floor shift NP261. Do you think if you just used a factory 261 harness you could've done with the extra switch you installed?
No sure. Never did look into why I couldnt get the 4 low to work out right and for just being an off road toy im happy with it the way it is.
the biggest differance is not the weight of the 2 ..... is the longgevity use of shifting it any time any cond,. any temp,. any amount of weight in the bed wither u r in or out of 4x4 mode while empty or completely loaded down to the max weight in the bed hauling what ever......!!!!!! cus we all know being there that having a push button 4x4.... & going from empty weight to loaded to the max weight & trying to get the push button to get in or back of of 4x4 while loaded to the max isn't good all the way around for us.... or the truck in any way shape of form !!!!!!!! cus w/ manual shifting in or out of 4x4 mode u can wither u r loaded or empty no matter the weight in the bed of the rig.......... BUTTTTT w/ push button 4x4 mode it's a differant story it either works a few times being in a bind or it completely breaks in differant spot's being all push button usually sucks donkey balls in some way some how sooner or later !!!!!!!!!!!!!! & the other thing is....push button u have to use it once in a while esp,. if u have the 4 differant outdoor season's !!!!!!!!! & w/ manual shift it doesn't mind if u use it once a day or a million times a day as long as it's maintained & spayed lube where it's needed IT WILL WORK ANY TIME ANY DECADE ANY PLACE UNDER ANY CONDITION OR UNDER ANY HEAVY TO THE MAX WEIGHT W/O WORRY'S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEEN THERE & DID THAT TOOOOO MANY TIMES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'LL NEVER GO BACK 2 PUSH BUTTON....EVEN IF I WAS PAID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you followed that build I removed the 2wd out of the T case to lessen the weight around 20 pounds. As for the push button I have had nothing but issues with it ever sense I bought the truck and it had to go. I replaced the buttons twice and the encoder motor once and it still acted up some times.
Nice conversion
I want to make my 2wd silverado 4x4
Floor shifter
But i don't know what wiring i need to replace
Other than grounding out the computer for 4 Low you will have to either wire in the front diff actuator or get a front diff out of an Escalade as they are full time AWD and have no actuator in them.
@@PostalRedneck this is the best idea thank you so much
@PostalRedneck can u bolt a np261 to a obs 4x4 tahoe with floor shifter
@@96tahoe2dr4 the transfer case will bolt right onto the back of the transmission but the driveshafts are going to be different. The front drive shaft of an obs is a bolt-on with dual cardan joints where the gmt800 uses a slip yoke.
@@PostalRedneck what about a front axle swap?
theoretically couldn’t you use the back plate that you used to trace the cut line to bolt up the shifter instead of using rivets??
Yes that is actually what that plate is for but since I own a rib nut gun I figured I might as well make a more permanent solution
Is there a reason you swapped? Did a 6.0/4l80 swap and I have a floor shifter and can only find electronic t cases so I was gonna do the opposite you did.
I'm hoping when I do my lq9 swap I won't regret rebuilding and upgrading my 4l60 instead of going with a 4l80. The reason I switched to a floor shifter was because in the 7 years of off-roading these trucks I've had three encoder Motors fail and two push buttons fail. Plus I'm kind of old school and enjoy my manual levers over electrical motors.
Im currently doing this to my wifes 99 GMC Sierra truck. Have shifter installed and fixing to swap t- case. My only concern was the speedo wire. The 246 has 2 other speed sensors besides the sensor for the speedometer. Do i just leave the 2 unplugged as the manual shift will only have the one speedometer sensor? Im assuming the other 2 work the auto 4wd mode.
Thats what I ended up doing. I would think the other one could be for rear wheel ABS
@@PostalRedneck thank you for replying, I just finished the project up, it works beautifully. Speedo works , I found the grey wire with black stripe under the main fuse block cover, tapped into it from a donor harness and tapped into the center ground on front axle actuator, removed ATC fuse, unplugged 4wd buttons and replaced with the oem pocket and just left the encoder motor and the 2 extra speed sensors unplugged and its was good to go. There is something so satisfying about pulling back that lever and you "know" it's engaged, not waiting and hoping for it to. Thanks again, your video helped a lot.
Where you ground it not the actuator ground the other one did you ground it to the frame?
If you are referring to the computer ground yes. The computer is looking for a ground to know the vehicle is in 4low to change the shift points on the transmission.
What year of truck and model did you get the manual for a shift assembly from I can’t find one anywhere except for 2015 and up
They can be found in 2000-2006 Chevy Silverados and Sierras. I wouldnt say they are rare but you dont see them often. Out of the 10 Silverados in the local LKQ Im guessing only 1 or 2 would have them.
@@PostalRedneck awesome thank you im doing a push button to manual myself. im at the same point. the t case is in and i will have to wire the front diff to engage . this video is helpful.
When you said your truck won’t shift out of 1st with out the toggle switch does that mean 2wd too? I had a shop put a new transmission in snd manual t case and it won’t shift out of 1st
It wont shift out of first gear in low range if you dont ground that wire as the computer will think its in high range still and be looking for a speed you will never reach in low range to shift at. If you are stuck in first outside of low range then im guessing there is something wrong with the trans you installed.
@@PostalRedneck so with the transfer case in 2 high I should have no problem shifting through the gears is that correct ?I don’t have to do any wiring whatsoever if I just want to use 2 wd
@@joelrugg That is correct. Make sure all the speed sensors are plugged in and it should all work.
my shifter won’t go into 4L it only goes into 2H 4H and N but it won’t shift over N to 4L can you help?😞
Try putting the vehicle into Neutral. If that dont work the linkage may have to be adjusted by undoing the bolt, putting the shifter in 4L, putting the T-Case in 4L and then tightening the adjustment bolt. Here is the time stamp where I go over that process - ua-cam.com/video/FmqFkQVi0W4/v-deo.html
So is the Michigan AC staying open? Or you going to fix that?🤣🤣
great stuff expandable foam 😂
I did the same swap as u but im stuck I have a speed sensor on outputshaft and another sensor for the gear selector but no harness for it
There are several speed sensors so make sure you are hooked to the right one. Also make sure you have a T Case from the right year. I think the 1999 and older dont have as many speed sensors or different plugs on them.
Did you swap transfer cases or remove the actuator from the electronic transfer case??
I remove the push button NP246 and replace it with a floor shift NP261 transfer case. There are quite a few differences between the 2 from external to internals. Here is the link to me getting the Tcase ready to install. ua-cam.com/video/eTHmcn__5-A/v-deo.html
Is all the same procedure with the wiring if you are doing it on a 2005 Chevy Silverado z71 ?
The only thing you have to wire would be the 4 low ground wire to the computer so the transmission shift points change. I dont know if the wire color is the same from the 99-02 and the 03-06.
@@PostalRedneck oh ok thanks for the info.
Can anyone help me my shift linkage will not stay on the my transfer case
You will more than likely have to either make a custom linkage somehow or buy a used one as once them plastic ends break there are no good options.
I wanna do this with my 2003 hd I wanna switch to manual shift… as far as parts list what do I need? It’s a 2003 Hd with the 6.0
I dont know much about the 3/4 tons but all I needed was the T case, shifter assembly and the shifter linkage to do mine.
@@PostalRedneck it’s a 1500hd but it still has the 8 lug on it
Well it should be about the same install for both other than the 4L60E will have a different T case than the 4L80E. So depending on what one you have you need to find a manual T case for it.
@@PostalRedneck person who had it before me upgraded it to 4L80
Did you have a 4x4 warning on the dash after doing the swap?
Yes. I suppose you could just zip tie the front diff motor up to the frame and leave it plugged in. I would think then you would not have a 4x4 light.
I seen that you can unplug the 4x4 module on the left side of the dash behind the left vent and it’ll make the 4x4 light go out
Quit pushing my buttons😂😂
Im the one with all the leverage around here 🤣
Have a 1998 gmc jimmy sle 4x4 has 4.3l vortec v6 4l60e Trans np233 transfer case. Want to go to manual np321. Has anyone done this? Cable linkage shifter assembly np231 transfer case anything else I need? To install? Also have the oldsmobile bravada passenger axle tube and shaft to eliminate the vaccume actuator. Will I need to wire anything so it will shift in 4 low?
Cant say I can confirm anything other than you will more than likely have to find a way to let the computer know you are in 4 low for it to shift correctly. Other than that you sound like you have all the parts to make this happen.
GM only offered manual shift T-cases in 2nd generation S10 Blazer/Jimmys/S10 trucks in 1995 and 1996 model years. After that they switched over to all electric shift T-cases ( there might be an exception for stick shift S-series trucks ). The 95-96 manual T-case versions are very rare to find as most of the 95-96 model years I've seen are electric shift.
@@PostalRedneck my uncle was a s10 fanatic he passed away and left 8 s10 s
What transmission is that?
4L60E

@@PostalRedneck ...I have to tear into this ... if you have any suggestions to override the 246 tcase to move the truck please let me.know ...it blew a few fuses and it got buried in snow for a few .months !!
