i love the cliche “we’re all playing our instruments” in rock/metal videos. it’s right up there with the videos where they’re recording the song in the studio with headphones on as they passionately sing the lyrics
That’s why I like Tool’s music videos. I’m pretty sure it’s the guitarist who directs them. He doesn’t want people to concentrate on them when they’re listening to the music.
As someone who studies video editing as well as animation, cinematography and other related stuff, what were the editors thinking? Hilarious! The way they had fog and weather behind the bands but none in front of them really added to the fake look, and that Raven video looked like the editor wanted the viewers to have a seizure. Also that one drummer you mentioned looked almost like he was floating, not only no shadow but apparently no floor!
Fun fact: The female singer in that Ancient clip is Kimberley Goss, also known as the ex-girlfriend-or-wife-or-whatever of your hero Alexi Laiho. Yes, really.
I fucking love The Cainian Chronicle. Warts and all. I've been listening to that album consistently for years and I'm not a huge black metal guy. Prophecy Of Gehenna is a killer tune.

The throw away line about Saruman being in a death metal band has some truth in it, Christopher Lee put out 4 albums and 3 EPs and worked with an Italian Symphonic Power Metal Band called Rhapsody of Fire on a few of their albums.
Liith's embrace has so many unforgettable clips, like when the singer slips and stumbles on that rock, but I think #1 is when buckethead does some spooky fingers to the camera and then fails to pick his bass back up.
Reminds me of the time I was going to make a video with my band (we played death metal) We were aimming for something simple. Our inspirations were "Erased" by Gorefest and "The Grotesque" by Bennediction but the director wanted to something "bigger" with zombies and special effects. (this was over 10 years ago) And now that I think about it, we missed the opportunity to be on this video! >_
I always liked Scar Symmetry music, and I do remember they had a lot of "hate" because of their cringey videos. I've always wondered if that was the reason to not having released any videoclip for the latest album and I joke saying that's also the reason for them not releasing anything new since 2014 lol
The video for ILENKUS - Over The Fire, Under The Smoke was shot on the streets of Galway city. Not technically cringe in itself, but the singer actually sang the entire song with headphones on and the reaction from onlookers says it all. Took some serious balls to be fair.
Cradle of filth is amazing! Majority of their music. I know people like to hate on them to much... I've been a metalhead for 12 years, and I practiced my screams because of Dani Filth of Cradle of filth. I can do the same shriek sound to.
OMG. Headbangers Ball used to play Lilith's Embrace all the time & I used to laugh my arse off watching it every time. I have tried to find it on UA-cam a number of times but I couldn't remember the name of the band or song. So glad I stumbled upon your video.
If you go back to the 1980s/early 1990s - back to the wonderful world of hair metal - well, the word "cringe" doesn't even start to describe the videos.
I adore Scar Symmetry's music and they're one of the nicest bands I've ever but MAN I forgot how rough their music videos can be Set the World on Fire by Symphony X is another one that hurts the eyes
Very funny, but I actually like how unaware, on purpose I believe, a lot of metal bands are. In an increasingly cynical world, it's good to see people just having fun.
@Ralof i actually like that one, its like they forgot their instruments for half the recording and then later the sister of one of the member comes with them and helps making the part of the walking lady.
" Kataklysm - The Awakener " stuck forever in my mind since my early teens, I swear there's something which induces pure cringe within me remembering the video.
Best part of that Ancient video is at the end where the bassplayer does some spooky jazz hands at the camera, then tries to pick up his bass, drops it and have to scramble for it, and then rocks out like nothing happened.
Akercocke are an amazingly good band with a visual aesthetic you can't help laughing at. It's like if you mixed the smarmyness of Manowar with the old school prim and proper of Jethro Tull. Whatever it is they got the market cornered.
I think you could make this video with only rhapsody videos (early ones, take a look at rain of a thousand flames please) PD: and no, not talking of the Christopher lee videos
I was literally typing that you need to put Ancient in the next video when it appeared next. I remember hearing that song back in the day before I even knew what black metal was
Banda Brittânica's (yes, means “brittish Band”, but they're brazilian) music video *Pesadelo* (Nightmare) is... A masterpiece of low budget and weirdness. I guess the only thing I need to say os that they make a 3D dragon sing.
My personal favorite is video for Broken Alliance by Finnish power metal band Requiem. The video has some flashes of good looking low budget film making, which just accentuates how hilarious the bad parts, especially the band's playing bits look.
Scar Symmetry would have recorded the video on an actual asteroid, but the camera crew wouldn't have survived so they had to just use a green screen.
FUCKING LMAO
Scar symmetry can do as they please . I didn't even notice a video.
We'll be holding it down on Venus during a sandstorm for this shoot gentlemen

The cliche is there, but i do not love it.
I think that the worst thing in all these videos is an excessive use of greenscreen which doesn't look natural and adds to cringe worthy effect
to be fair I'd have a studio recording video over any of the green screen shit any day, at least it's showing something real.
That’s why I like Tool’s music videos. I’m pretty sure it’s the guitarist who directs them. He doesn’t want people to concentrate on them when they’re listening to the music.
