Of all the things I've done to my bike I never upgraded the handlebars because I didn't really know what to look for with all the bends. Thanks for another very well put together video
This channel is so awesome, every time I'm looking into making a new part/gear purchase, or a setup change, or bike maintenance I havent done before, I'm always like "I wonder if RM ATV/MC has a video on this?" And, usually, you guys do!
The first thing I do to any bike is pro taper style oversize bars and clamps. You want that tapered design for the flex. And I’ve never bent this style bar. With the Tusk Universal Clamps & Chub Bar Kits at $70, it’s a no brainer.
Handlebars are honestly the hardest items to choose on the entire dirt bike. It's all "Rider preference" but you can't make a preference when you can't try them all out. I guess you could spend a few hundred dollars buying a bunch of different kinds then picking one you like and returning the rest. Would that work with your return policy?
*oHerroPrease* - You just wouldn't want to mount them on your bike is the only thing. The item/s must be in brand new or un-used condition. You can for sure do what you're saying and buy a couple different bends and then return the ones you don't like. The best way really is to pull them down at your local retailer and try them out. That way you don't have to buy them all and you can get a real feel for how they are going to feel while on the bike. How this helps. What handlebars are you leaning towards?
How short is too short for a dual sport I like the idea of having tighter bars I ride deserts and forests I don’t actually do a lot of on road riding I’ve ridden little 125s and 50s and the bar size drop hasn’t bothered me but on an XT250 I want shorter bars but I wonder if it will hinder mobility or ease of turning when I’m doing more technical stuff
It's actually the opposite. A handlebar with a crossbar will be more rigid and have more feedback while a handlebar without a crossbar will have more flex and absorb more vibrations. This runs true for all handlebars.
I thought crossbars helped reduce vibration. I’m trying to mod my 2017 YZ250 for enduro trail riding (so far I’m running an 18” rear wheel, weighted flywheel, levers, pegs etc., the usual stuff) and now I’m about to purchase a Precision Parabolic steering damper (I considered Scott’s and GPR but the PP specs and functionality is just too appealing). I was thinking about changing my standard bars to a crossbar setup (particularly the Ricky Carmichael ODI CFT RC4 because they have great reviews and apparently reduce vibration quite well), or just getting some shock and vibe bar mounts (but I’m not really sold on the idea of these yet). I’d love to hear your thoughts. Great video by the way. I’m not afraid to experiment with new bar positions/specs but now I know how to measure what I’ve got and try not to veer too far from what I’m already comfortable with.
When i was riding 80's I went through a set of 7/8" bars about once every other ride(because I bent them). When I upped my bike size to 250, 450, 500, I always ran 1 1/8" pro tapers and have never bent a bar since. The fact that I used to crash alot on 80's might play a factor too haha but I had some gnarly crashes on the big bikes too
the best set of bars i have ever bought in over 35 yrs are a set of twisted engineerings carbon fiber un breakable bars i have dropped crashed run into trees and the bars are straight and un harmed ,i have bought bars and bent them on the first ride 100 quid a pair its expensive i spent 300 quid on the carbon from twisted and i still have them over 3 yrs later not sure how much they have save me but for sure over 300 quid so now they are free also they flex so my old bones last longer with less pain ..
whats the straightest bars with the least amount of sweep? I used to see Malcolm Stewart run some MIKA bars that were really straight with no sweep & the bar ends were shorter like closer to the bike not so far out they looked PERFECT! Im guessing they were custom? sorta like the bars at 7:29 but for a big bike obviously
I'm 58 years old, ride a 06 crf250X. I enjoy enduros and cross country events. I rode as a kid but started some riding 1 year ago. Never had first place nor last place. I bent my bars last enduro need new ones. Can't afford to buy different handle bars (limited income) so looking for suggestions based on what I ride and ability. Definitely a "C" rider. I'm 6ft tall. Let's hear suggestions and why please... My buddy suggested pro taper high bend. I've rode and finished Shasta CC And Fools Gold enduro in Georgetown. Finishing is huge for me Okay let's hear whatcha got to suggest Thanks!
I do wish you covered options for taller riders who are also beginners, because I have been riding for 20 years on the street and I just got a dirt bike and I'm trying to figure out the best option since I am 6' 6 riding a 2020 klx 300 R Sitting on the bike I feel fine but standing on it definitely feels unnatural and I'm wondering is there any way to widen the space that I'm riding in by getting taller risers. Any ideas?
I have my triple clamp built in, if i put adapter for 1 1/8 it raises the height too much, i am a pretty short rider too with my seat cut and with those handbars too high feels like im riding a chopper
Just bought a used Kawasaki KX 65 for my son. We are looking for a new set of handlebars which are slightly taller than the stock bars. What would you suggest?
So I can’t get an aftermarket 7/8 bar for an atv without a cross bar ? I want to get some aftermarket bars but don’t want to have to relocate my dash lights and key and can’t go to oversized bars
John, this is really rider preference. I wouldn't say there is a wrong or right set up. Yes, too far forward or back isn't ideal, but I would just find a bar position that feels comfortable. I always try to have my bars at the same angle as my forks. Taller riders tend to have their bars a little farther forward. As for lever placement, again, this is different for every rider. I prefer my levers to be angled down just slightly. I also have my clutch lever about as far in (toward center of the bar) as I can. This gives me good leverage and makes my clutch pull a little easier. I'd just try different set ups and find what feels best for you. Thanks for watching and hope this helps.
Ive been looking at sweep and rise etc in all bars lately. But cant make up my mind. Im looking for an aggressive race bend that are tall. The stock 2017 yz bars just arent doing it for me. Any opinions? Reed bend? Renthal rc? I like to feel on top of the bar so i normally run them at minus 1. I feel like im lacking rise. And im not sure what the yz stock bend is to judge off by them onto other bars.
WHICH BEND WILL YOU RECOMMEND IN RENTHAL FATBAR 1 1/8 FOR CROSS COUNTRY , I HAVE A YAMAHA YZ250FX 2020 , BUT I DONT KNOW THE MEASUREMENTS OF THE ORIGINAL HANDLEBAR????
if i want my bars as straight & as low as possible what is the best bend choice in MIKA? i like my bars with a little less width & no bend in. i have a 2000 yz125
It really just depends how much it bothers you having your bars bent. You can certainly try to straighten them, there are some videos on UA-cam showing how. Also, unless you can see clearly where the bars are bent there is a chance that your forks are just out of alignment in your triple clamps so that would be worth checking in to.
Those markings relate to the bar mounts to help make sure you get your handlebars centered and to give you a reference if you want to change the angle of your handlebars.
I race motocross and some woods. I am 6' tall with long legs and long arms. I stand more in the woods and wish i stood more on the track. I have the protaper yz high bar but i think a taller bar would help me out. Anyone have any bar suggestions ?
We also have handlebar risers you could try out. Much less expensive that a brand new bar. www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/1316/25849/Tusk-Handlebar-Risers
You can check out all the handlebars we have available for your bike here: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/adventure-handlebars-controls?v=2021-honda-crf300l
How tall are you? It really is rider preference. But, in most cases, taller riders will go with a little taller bend so they don't feel so hunched over. You can get a taller bar rise or if you like your bars you have now, you can get handlebar risers. -Chase

Do you know if i can fit one of these motorcycle handlebars on a mountain bike? The cross bar type being my most favourite. Friday afternoon at 16:28H. 28th May 2021. U.K. 🇬🇧 Southampton.
Unfortunately, you're better off using mountain bike specific handlebars because modern day mountain bikes utilize either 31.8mm or 35mm clamp diameters where dirt bike handlebars use either 7/8" or 1 1/8" clamps.

The bar bend is all personal preference and depends on the feel that you want. But as long as the bars and risers you ordered are both either 7/8" or 1 1/8" then they'll fit on your bike just fine!
Famous75 Gaming it makes you comfortable on the bike too much sweep puts your wrists at an uncomfortable angle . It also gives you better control of the bike everybody that rides has different body shapes and sizes it’s all about comfort it keeps riding longer with less fatigue

1 was wandering what size bar to get for my yz 85 2006 I bought mika mini handle bars and bought a set of risers just wanted to make sure I got the right ones I got the yz bend would you please get back in touch with me and let me no I got the right equipment please text me back mine are mika mini handle bars please let me no thanks plan too order me aset of dunlop MX 52 tires for my yz 85 complete set for around 100 dollars for both tires the prices are reasonable and a set of warp 9 footpegs plan too do a lot more business with you in the future thanks again Mike Holden said that out of north Carolina
The bar bend is all personal preference and depends on the feel that you want. But as long as the bars and risers you ordered are both either 7/8" or 1 1/8" then they'll fit on your bike just fine!
Looks like you need to shop Rocky Mountain and grab some elbow pads before you go out next time mate lol😂😂😂 nice vid
That is a very good point haha! I just can't keep it on two dang it!
Why do people buy these? Like what benefit do they give
Famous75 Gaming it makes you comfortable on the bike too much sweep puts your wrists at an uncomfortable angle . It also gives you better control of the bike everybody that rides has different body shapes and sizes it’s all about comfort it keeps riding longer with less fatigue
