    Good vid as always. But I have found the #1 factor of choosing a rear tire size, (18" or 19"), depends mostly on what size rim your bike has. :)

    Second on the Kendas.
    I've seen the Parker DT front listed in the catalog but not the rear. Here in Utah I've had great results with these. very aggressive tread for a DOT tire.
    They don't chunk in the rocks like other tires and wear very well. I have over 1300 miles on my first set on a 96 DR350
    and about 350 miles so far on My Beta 300RR Race edition. The vast majority of total miles is in the rocky Utah west desert mountain trails.
    Hopefully you will add these to your offerings.

    One more thing, you guys... Is there any way you could discuss front tire wash out? Can you tell us about riding techniques vs. trying to cover bad techniques with low pressure or tire specs? Is there a better setup (on a DRZ 400 as an example) to keep front wheel washout out of the mix? I want to be absolutely sure my technique /s are solid then choose a tire. I used to ride MC in the 70s on a Yamaha 250, and I didn't have near the issue I see on some of the dual sports of today... any help would be appreciated!!!

    Pressures...I have bent a couple rims when running 12 psi but have never bent a rim when running 13 psi or higher. I usually run 14 psi and go plus/minus 1 psi depending on the tire and the conditions. My info is for relatively lightweight bikes that weigh 320 lbs or less and are also running rim locks.

    The larger rear tire (18 inch) is more popular with offroad riders because it has a larger air volume and footprint. The extra volume makes it more absorbent. The downside is that it bounces in squared-edged whoops. (although the 18 did hook up better than the 19-inch in everything but rock-hard dirt and whoops).

      I'm in Az and I selected the Sedona 907 and the Michelin starcross 5 hard pack for the front. Tires perform perfectly on any harder surface but as soon as front hits the loose sand or dirt it wants to washout. If most terrain is loose anything I'd get a soft terrain tire, at least for the front intermediate or even the Sedona 907hp seems to bite good in the loose terrain the front Michelin does not at all. Hope that helps

      I change mine when i have about 20-25% of my knobbies left. There’s no exact time to change your tires, it depends on you. I like to get the most use out of my tire, and I don’t mind the loss of traction towards the end of the tires life. I kinda like the drifty feel you get on dirt roads. Basically, change the tire when YOU think you should. But if you ride a lot of muddy or sandy terrain you want to change it more often, hard pack and gravel you can push it harder for longer.

    Good presentation! A quick question. I have a Suzuki DRZ400 and live in the Pacific NW. Many of the riders air down to about 10 psi. I have ridden MC since 1973 and stayed with recommended psi, however, I do simple off road riding now. My question: Is it really necessary to air down below recommended psi ranges, or, is this poor riding technique/s of the riders airing down? Is there ever an advantage to low psi - I ask b/c a lot of DRZ riders seem to have trouble with front end washout... any help would be appreciated!

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  5 років тому +1

      In situations where you can feel your tire losing traction on more technical or wet trails then you could air down one or two psi at a time until you feel traction start coming back. Running low tire pressures does have advantages in certain situations and is not uncommon to see people riding slower, technical trails or soft terrain to run 10 psi or even a bit lower. But if you're not having traction problems and are in the recommended range there's no reason to lower your tire pressure, but it's interesting to play around with and see what you feel!

    hopefully someone is still answering questions, I have a CR125 that I ride on both dirt hard surface and Dune sands on the same day in the same location, this place is called Juniper Dunes in Washington state. the dirt tires work out there but can cause a lot of frustration when its been really hot and the sand is nice and soft, the dune hills are not huge by any means but there can be some areas where the length of the run before you hit a hill can be short so you need that traction, I am looking for the best tire for 70% sand and 30% dirt to ride on when there and I will have another just dirt tire for everywhere else. this Dunlop Geomax MX11 Sand/Mud Motorcycle Tire looks like it might fit the program I need being the tread is not going to beat me up like a cup tire would on the harder surface. any other suggestions?

      No sir. It's the week and year. Unfortunately you have to do a little math to figure out the month :/ you would think just using the month would be much easier haha.

    Wait but all my friends use soft tires in the woods (aka soft ground)

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  2 роки тому

      It really depends on the soil type. And are you referring to soft as the rubber compound or a soft-intermediate tire? If you ride woods and the dirt is soft and loamy, then a soft-intermediate tire would be fine. But for hard pack trails with roots, rocks, etc., then a intermediate-hard tire would be a good choice, or even a hybrid like the Tusk Recon.

      Lucas Guzik engine destruction! No seriously you are just not optimising your tire traction.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  7 років тому +1

      Oliver said it well. If you run a directional tire backwards, you aren't going to get the full potential and traction of the tire. Always check with the tire manufacturer for safety information as well. Thanks~Chase

Please message UA-cam as people are missing your videos despite being subscribed.

    Tire technology is constantly changing. How about updating this 5 year old video? But this time mention the tire brand / model you like (and your #2 tire) in each category. It's mind boggling to go through reviews on each tire . . . . and we don't know who's reviewing from a wanna-be C rider to a AA rider.
