You guys know what you doin, just jumped back on a dirt bike after 30 years so I can ride with my boy and your vids are really helpful, even for an almost 50 year old fella...thanks heaps and eagerly awaiting your next vids!...cheers from Oz!
Some of my best riding memories were getting roosted by dad's cr500 he bought to dock around with me. You get 2 attaboys and a fuck yeah. Cheers from Cali
For bar position I remember years ago watching a video of a guy who sat on the bike on a stand, closed his eyes and swung his hands down 3x-5x. Where he was reaching was where he wanted the bars. I didn't describe it 100% but that video helped me a lot with my bar position. Great tips in this video as well!
High bars are actually a freestyle set up. Look at the racers bars of the late 80,s and early 90's, and lever position. You will have better control of the bike, and crash less. This guy is following,--no thinking, and the entire industry adopted a free style set up,---because we follow with out thinking.
The part where you’re describing wrist positions with the levers is spot on and that’s actually how you should choose your bar bend and then bar position. Once those are set, then adjust the lever position. If you’re riding in the attack position and your wrists are tweaked inward or outward, you’ll lose strength, injure the joint and possibly go numb. Ask me how I know.
The modern boots I bought have no feel at all. I want to be able to feel my brake and shift lever, so I switched to a pair of Adventure boots, (TCX Baja GTXgortex). They are as protective as a good boot of the late 80's, which I raced with for a decade with no troubles, nice and light, but I would not want to get t-boned or get my toes sucked under the peg. Just doing aggressive trail riding now, and would want more protection for MX,---but I know I will crash less when I can feel the controls, so I had to add that in the safety factor too. You can separate a shoulder, because your boots are "sense less", like a lobster exoskeleton on your foot.
I work at a Powersports dealership as a bike tech and you’re not supposed to criss cross the pattern when you’re tightening clamps. The style clamp in this video is called a stepped clamp or pinch clamp. If you look closely one side of the clamp is thicker and one is thinner (stepped) you always tighten the thicker side first and follow up with the small side which pinches the clamp tight on the bars. The clamp in this video should have the thick side on top. Also there’s markings on bars and clamps so no needs to sharpie your bars. Just friendly advice!
Should I cut 1/4-1/2in off my stock bars on a new CRF250F? I know this is an older video, but would love to get a response from MXF. I’m 5’7” and they feel too wide. I just ride dirt roads/trails, not even scrambles & no plans to race. TIA!!
Loved the vid guys. Alot of good advice you guys are honestly making me show my dirtbike so much more attention compared to my street bike but its well worth it though motocross is way more fun thanks for the vids looking forward to the next one
Thank you for the advice I just bought my Kawasaki 230 and riding it with my knees almost touching the handlebars standing up not thinking that I can move this forward. Just adjusted them tonight oh man the difference is night and day so much better thank you!
You know on the Pro Taper bars (that came stock with my 2019 YZ 250 2-stroke), and those number lines on the bar between the clamps? The numbers on the bar have a 0 in the middle, some likes to a number 2 on each end. People today set the bar up (rotating the bar forward), where the 0 is in the middle of the top clamp. Rotate your bars back so the far "2" is at the center of the clamp, and point your levers down by 15 to 30 degrees, which ever lets you keep your elbows up (sitting or standing, on the gas or off.) The level levers are nuts. Your brake lever is so high, for example, you get done with braking, can't "re-grip' the throttle because your finger is still on the lever, then you give it gas and drop your elbow to your waist. Good thing the baby tracks today are smooth. Look at the 80's set up and early 90's. It is like that for a reason The bars are high today because of freestyle. Your future is going to suck if you follow, instead of figure out why. Grip ends should point down, (nature hand position it was designed for), or level at the very highest. The grips should be over the gas cap when looking at the bike from the side of the bars. Now go see how much easier it is to get over the bars for things like flat corners. You will have much more control of the front end, and it is much easier to keep your elbows up. This is a freestyle set up, (for trick clearance),---and the entire industry (world) is irrational today.
Would like to hear some advice on bar width? I also have a newer husky and stock bars are 33in. I am 5’9, do you trim your bars or just rock the stock width?
Definitely the buffoonery leader of the MX channels! Nay, of all the motorcycle channels. Also you guys put out very smart vids, so that’s a double plus.
On the Brake Pedal side.... I took the two metric screws out of the Pedle itself. Stacked a pair of 7 small THIN Dia. steel washers with a longer metric Allen head screw back in. I micro'ed the pedal up. Stock seemed Low. Any thoughts here?
Hi there. Im a taller rider on a yz250f. Ive been having issues with my arms tiring out quickly. It’s mainly my fitness but a mate told me that im quite tall so i have to move my handlebar clamps to the other holes and get handlebar raisers. Would that help?
Probably not. You are not relaxing. Let me share a trick with you. Have you ever noticed that a rider can be super talented, and not even cross train, (Lechien and Bayle are 2 that come to mind). The reason is, when they got tired, they figured out ways to ride and not use energy, instead of hitting the gym. When they got tired, they figured they were doing something wrong and corrected it with their riding technique. That is how they got so smooth. #1 rule, if you are not relaxed, you are doing something wrong. :)
I stuggle even more with the clutch control on the big 4 strokes like the Yamaha WR450 with either stalling, or it run away slipping or go to fast because it has to much power to fast at even the lowest of the low rpm. Easiest bike I had for slow technical difficult terrain was a 2 stroke KX125 MX bike from 1983 and I almost never stalled that one and never used the clutch because it was just to hard lol.
Adding an extra washer outside of the Nord-lock washers like you have done will prevent the Nord-lock washers from working properly. Which is a bit sad, as they are some great engineering in action.
2:30 me in my whiskey throttle days lol that reminded me so bad hahahaha i used to whiskey throttle and couldnt reach the lever. Im happy you put this one!
I have watched this video a few times, always refreshing to remember things for those of us who don't get to ride every day.. VIDEO SUGGESTION: can you make a video where you show the differences using and not using Traction Control (TC) in different scenarios? Like sand, hard pack, uphill dry, up hill mud or slippery, how does it affect for wheelies or jump landings or other things where TC can get in the way, if your recommend it or not and why and for how. Also on my KTM it has the MAP settings 1 and 2 (normal and aggressive). Maybe give general comments on it? I know the aggressive (2) revs up faster for sure but not sure if does affect gas consumption overall or wears out the engine faster if you don't ride to hard? For sure if you ride hard it does all of that but for novice's maybe not that much? Great vids, really like your channel and content... also hope to keep seeing more of the "pointing out" what went wrong videos and keep showing examples on your normal videos on the good way and the bad way with your arrows, circles, etc. Super good!!
The ends of your grips should be pointing down a bit, and their grips about over the gas cap as you look at the bars from the side. (pull the bars back!) This set up he is running is actually a freestyle set up,---that his generation adopted with out thinking for riding, and the entire industry, (new generation) adopted it with out thinking at all.. Reed some Gary Bailey for the bar set up with "reason".
+dunkin 102 When tightening bolts in a criss cross pattern you avoid tightening down one side of the clamp too much. If you only tightened down one side of the clamp, then the other side, the clamp may be uneven and leave the bars a chance to slip. So criss cross just makes sure the clamp is evened up and keeps the bars tight.
it´s hard to say without pics go to a forum and ask there or you could ask guys on the track, maybe someone knows or can figure it out by looking at it ok i forgot the obvious, ask your suzuki dealer ^^
