    Oh , wow, my home town, buffalo intl. actually in Cheektowaga. My first airline trip was on united in 1972 to Miami. On a 727. So impressed as a kid, I went to work for them. 44 years later and still working for United. Great film , thank you.

      Mohawk merged with Allegheny in 1972; Allegheny changed its name to USAir in '79.

      @@sfchar And USAir merged with Piedmont and PSA which were then bought by America West which then took over American Airlines which is still around today.

    Cool video, Corvair, station wagons, 727s, and the infamous chevy's with rear wings, 1961?, even 707s and the Regional people were so fond of Mohawk F-27. This was a trip back to when I was a very small kids fascinated by aircraft and cars.

    Have you found any film of an American Airlines DC-10 at BUF? They were regularly scheduled into BUF in the 70s. To Laguardia eastbound; to Detroit Metro with continuing service to LAX westbound. American Airlines Flight 96 was bound for BUF from DTW on June 12, 1972. This was the DC-10-10 involved in the so-called Windsor Incident.

    The Vickers Viscount with Rolls Royce engines was a great plane - got to fly on one. The Boxcar was featured in the movie "Flight Of the Phoenix" ( The original ).

      Actually, that was a C-82 Packet in the Jimmy Stewart film...a C-119 was used for the remake a few years ago.

    Where I caddied in the mid-60s there was a member who was a pilot for Mohawk. The country club is in northern KY and within bicycle riding distance of the CVG airport - AKA Cincinnati / Covington,KY. His name was Ty Youree (spelling???).

    My first flight ever was out of Buffalo on a BAC-111

  • @richschindler8731

    What a great video. My only wish would have to be able to see the N number on that American BAC 1-11. I flew one of the converted ones. Converted to corporate use.
    When I flew it, it started as N5034 then It became VR-BHS then ended up as N333GB. Great airplane. Lots of noise, smoke and underpowered, but still loved it.

      @carlshen9955 7 років тому +1

      Rich. I have a photo of it at the gate. I'll dig it out and try to see if the reg number is visible and readable. If so, I'll post it here.

    • @carlshen9955
      @carlshen9955 7 років тому +1

      And also, Rich. I just saw your comment under the previous movie of mine (Greater Buffalo international Airport #1) that Chris posted and which shows an AA BAC 111 flying overhead. I also have a still of that one too; again taken when it was at a gate. I'll find the pics of that one and the one seen in this movie and if the reg numbers of either one are readable, I'll post them. Who knows, one of the two may have been the one you flew later. That'd be cool. (Wave)

    • @richschindler8731
      @richschindler8731 7 років тому

      That would be very cool. I've seen a few photos of my old plane taken at Buffalo. Can't get enough of it. Thanks for your help. BTW. If you type in the N number you'll see what it looked like after it was an American plane. With American and then T A G N5034, then VR-BHS and finally N333GB. It was set to be re engined but never finished and was broken up in San Antonio, Texas. So sad.

  • @zachmatt3
    @zachmatt3 7 років тому +4

    Was that a BAC-111 I saw? There was nothing like the intense noise those jets made on takeoff if you were parked close to the runway. They made a very loud popping noise at full throttle. Anyone remember that?

    • @richschindler8731
      @richschindler8731 7 років тому

      zachmatt3 remember them? I flew one of them. No, not as American, but as N5034, VR-BHS then as N333GB. All the same plane, look it up.

    • @zachmatt3
      @zachmatt3 7 років тому +1

      That's amazing, Rich! Did you ever take in the noise they made if you were outside the plane close to the runway?

    • @richschindler8731
      @richschindler8731 7 років тому

      zachmatt3 Oh yes. I know exactly how loud it was on TO. There were many times I would stand outside as someone else ran up the engines just sitting statically on the ground. I'm also a airframe and power plant mech so I did my share of working on it while running. Can't understand why I have hearing issues these days

      Oh, yeah! Years ago, ATCs would refer to them as ThunderBACs and for good reason. Wonderful film. Ended too soon. Kenny Rogers used to operate one. N97KR. I saw him run off the back staircase into a limo one afternoon.

      Even louder were the DH Tridents flown by BEA into the 1980s. At takeoff they clocked in occasionally as louder than the Concorde. So imagine that BAC 111 with another roaring jetpipe! It was Armageddon-loud.

    I think that aircraft at 2:12 was a DC7? Wing span looked a little too large for a DC6. Nice little video, I flew the Viscount in Europe in British European Airways in the early 60s. The one in the video is a 700 series recognizable by the oval passenger door and no windows forward of the props.

      Hi, David. If you get a free minute, check out the Kodak pics I posted in the FlightAware gallery. (I carried the movie camera and a still camera whenever I rode my bike to KBUF and also when I flew to Boston and New York. ) Chris salvaged my movies which he has posted here and I've scanned and posted some of my many old photos into FA. Just enter "KBUF" into FA's "Airport" box and all the shots at KBUF will pop up; most of my old Kodak 127 and Kodak 620 photos will be right there are the first page because they have been viewed many times. My old Viscount Bl & Wh shots are in the group that will appear. If you enter my FA user name "RNOOldeCarl" (Gary Schenauer) you can also see my old pics of a Lake Central Nord 262 at KBUF, an EAL Connie at Boston, an AA CV-990, and a Northwest 727 and Piedmont F-27 at Washington National.

    Love the 727-100 footage! So...at BUF in '67 it was American, Eastern, United, and Mohawk? Was Allegheny also serving Buffalo at the time?

    • @carlshen9955
      @carlshen9955 7 років тому

      Yes. As did Lake Central. Allegheny absorbed LC a couple years later, then still later it executed a (semi) hostile "takeover" of Mohawk (long story but Robert Peach, Mohawk's founder, tried to resist but was ousted by his own B of Directors and was so devastated he took his own life). Allegheny went on to become US Air, then US Airways, and now American.

    • @rcspilot
      @rcspilot 7 років тому

      m757200 That's an American Airlines DC-6 or DC-7. Its tough to tell which, given the distance, angle, picture quality, etc.

    • @carlshen9955
      @carlshen9955 7 років тому +1

      That viewing location was at the "5" end of runway 23-5. This was a great place to sit. Back then, it was the intersection of Cayuga and Genesee Streets. (Can't park there anymore because it is near an on-ramp for the Kensington Expressway.) RCSPilot ... You've got a great eye. That movie is a half-century old and is badly deteriorated yet you still IDed it. After the Boxcar, it was an AA 727, a UA Viscount, a UA 727, and then the AA. AA usually flew DC-6Bs into KBUF then but on this day I cannot say for certain which this one was.
